The deformation energy(Wd)of soil-like tectonic coal is crucial for investigating the mechanism of coal and gas outbursts.Tectonic coal has a significant nonlinear constitutive relationship, which makes traditional elastic-based models for computing Wdunsuitable.Inspired by critical state soil mechanics, this study theoretically established a new calculation model of Wdsuitable for the coal with nonlinear deformation characteristics. In the new model, the relationship between energy and stress no longer follows the square law(observed in traditional linear elastic models)but exhibits a power function, with the theoretical value of the power exponent ranging between 1 and 2.Hydrostatic cyclic loading and unloading experiments were conducted on four groups of tectonic coal samples and one group of intact coal samples. The results indicated that the relationship between Wdand stress for both intact and tectonic coal follows a power law.The exponents for intact and tectonic coal are close to 2 and 1,respectively.The stress-strain curve of intact coal exhibits small deformation and linear characteristics, whereas the stress-strain curves of tectonic coal show large deformation and nonlinear characteristics. The study specifically investigates the role of coal viscosity in the cyclic loading/unloading process. The downward bending in the unloading curves can be attributed to the time-dependent characteristics of coal, particularly its viscoelastic behavior.Based on experimental statistics, the calculation model of Wdwas further simplified. The simplified model involves only one unknown parameter, which is the power exponent between Wdand stress. The measured Wdof the coal samples increases with the number of load cycles. This phenomenon is attributed to coal's viscoelastic deformation.Within the same stress, the Wdof tectonic coal is an order of magnitude greater than that of intact coal. The calculation model of Wdproposed in this paper provides a new tool for studying the energy principle of coal and gas outbursts. 展开更多

Due to inherent limits of data acquisition and geophysical data resolution, there are large uncertainties in the characterization of subsurface fractures. However, outcrop analogies can provide qualitative and quantitative information on a large number of fractures, based on which the accuracy of subsurface fracture characterization can be improved. Here we take the tectonic fracture modeling of an ultra-low permeability sandstone reservoir based on an outcrop analogy, a case study of the Chang6t~ Formation of the Upper Triassic Yanchang Group of the Wangyao Oilfield in the Ordos Basin of China. An outcrop at the edge of the basin is a suitable analog for the reservoir, but the prerequisite is that they must have equivalent previous stress fields, similar final structural characteristics, relative timing and an identical depositional environment and diagenesis. The relationship among fracture density, rock type and bed thickness based on the outcrop is one of the most important fracture distribution models, and can be used to interpret fracture density in individual wells quantitatively. Fracture orientation, dip, geometry and scale, also should be described and measured in the outcrop, and can be used together with structure restoration and single well fracture density interpretation to guide fracture intensity prediction on bed surfaces and to constrain the construction of the 3D fracture geometry model of the subsurface reservoir. The application of the above principles shows the outcrop-based tectonic fracture models of the target ultra-low permeability sandstone reservoir are consistent with fractures inferred from microseismic interpretation and tracer tests. This illustrated that the fracture modeling based on the outcrop analogy is reliable and can reduce the uncertainty in stochastic fracture modeling. 展开更多

In a large area of the east—central Asian continent there is a unified seismic network system composed of two families of large—seismic belts that intersect conjugately. Such a seismic network in the middle—upper crust is actually a response to the plastic flow network in the lower lithosphere including the lower crust and lithospheric mantle. The existence of the unified plastic flow system confirms that the driving force for intraplate tectonic deformation results mainly from the compression of the India plate, while the long-range transmission of the force is carried out chiefly by means of plastic flow. The plastic flow network has a control over the intraplate tectonic deformation. 展开更多

Continent-continent collision is the most important driving mechanism for the occurrence of various geological processes in the continental lithosphere. How to recognize and determine continent-continent collision, especially its four-dimensional temporal-spatial evolution, is a subject that geological communities have long been concerned about and studied. Continent-continent collision is mainly manifested by strong underthrusting (subduction) of the underlying block along an intracontinental subduction zone and continuous obduction (thrusting propagation) of the overlying block along the intracontinental subduction zone, the occurrence of a basin-range tectonic framework in a direction perpendicular to the subduction zone and the flexure and disruption of the Moho. On the basis of numerical modeling, the authors discuss in detail the couplings between various amounts and rates of displacement caused by basin subsidence, mountain uplift and Moho updoming and downflexure during obduction (thrusting propagation) and subduction and the migration pattern of basin centers. They are probably indications or criteria for judgment or determination of continent-continent collision. 展开更多

On the basis of a 3-dimension visco-elastic finite element model of lithosphere in North China, we numerically simulate the recent mutative figures of tectonic stress field. Annual change characteristics of stress field are: 1 ) Maximum principal tensile stress is about 3 -9 kPaa-1 and its azimuth lie in NNW-SSE. 2) Maximum principal compressive stress is about 1 - 6 kPaa-1 and its azimuth lie in NEE-SWW. 3 ) Maximum principal tensile stress is higher both in the west region and Liaoning Province. 4) Variation of tectonic stress field benefits fault movement in the west part and northeast part of North China. 5 )Annual accumulative rates of Coulomb fracture stress in Tanlu fault belt have segmentation patterns: Jiashan-Guangji segment is the high- est (6 kPaa - 1 ) , Anshan-Liaodongwan segment is the second (5 kPaa - l ) , and others are relatively lower ( 3 - 4 kPaa-1 ). 展开更多

In the paper, the kinematic model of tectonic blocks in southwest China is studied based on the precision GPS observations carried out under the major subject of 'Studies on Current Crustal Movement and Geodynamics' which belongs to the State Climbing Project. It is believed that at present, the data of high precision GPS observation may provide convincing information related to the horizontal movement of tectonic blocks in the Chinese mainland. The preliminary results obtained from the kinematic model have given some direct evidences for the research of dynamic mechanism of crustal deformation in the Chinese mainland and on the basis of which, the kinematic characteristics and their relations to the seismicity and seismic risk in the reobserved region are analysed. Mississippi Valley-type(MVT) Zn-Pb deposits predominantly form within both orogenic forelands and fold-andthrust belts, yet the mineralization process within the latter tectonic setting remains inadequately understood. This study, through a comprehensive review of MVT deposits across global fold-and-thrust belts, introduces a novel model elucidating the mineralization process in the context of tectonic belt evolution. It is demonstrated that during the stage Ⅰ, regional compression is introduced by early stages of plate convergence, causing the folding and thrusting and creating structural or lithological traps such as evaporite diapirs and unconformity-related carbonate dissolution-collapse structures. Thereafter, in stage Ⅱ, hydrocarbons begin to migrate and accumulate within these traps, where reduced sulfur is generated through thermochemical or bacterial sulfate reduction concurrent with or preceding Zn-Pb mineralization. In the subsequent stage Ⅲ, as plate convergence persists, the regional stress transitions from compression to transpression or extension. Under these conditions, steeply-dipping extensional faults are generated, facilitating the ascent of metalliferous brines into early-formed structural or lithological traps. Precipitation of Zn and Pb sulfides occurs through the mixing of Zn-Pb-transporting fluids with pre-existing reduced sulfur or by interaction with hydrocarbons. 展开更多

The Mohorovicic discontinuity(Moho)boundary separating the Earth’s crust and mantle reflects the evolutionary trajectory of the Earth’s crust, yielding crucial insights into crustal formation, tectonic evolution, and profound dynamic processes. However, the prevailing Moho models for China and its adjacent areas suffer from limited accuracy, owing to the irregular and sparse distribution of seismic data collection. In this study,we employ gravimetric data to derive Moho depth, and employ Bott’s regularization method, integrating gravity and seismic data to reconstruct the Moho structure with high precision in a three-dimensional framework across China and its adjacent areas.By optimizing gravity potential field separation and interface inversion techniques,we present a detailed and accurate zoning scheme for classifying China and its adjacent areas into 35 gradient belts,6 primary tectonic units, and 35 secondary tectonic units, based on the spatial distribution characteristics of the Moho discontinuity.Notably, our tectonic pattern division results surpass previous studies in terms of resolution, providing a wealth of tectonic information.Leveraging the Moho depth model of China and its adjacent areas,we discuss orogenic belts, sedimentary basins, fault systems, plate boundaries, and land-sea coupled tectonic patterns. We meticulously summarize the Moho depth distribution characteristics of each tectonic unit, while exploring the macrostructural framework and geological significance of the study area. Our findings highlight the close relationship between China and its adjacent areas Moho depth model and deep geodynamics, elucidating the tectonic evolution both between and within tectonic plates,as well as the tectonic effects induced by mantle dynamics. These insights have crucial implications for the study of deep geodynamics in China and its adjacent areas. 展开更多

Temperature variation across this boundary can lead to the change of lithosphere thickness. In the case of elevated temperatures in a lithospheric layer above 1 200℃, partial melting will begin and the result of that is a thinned lithosphere. The other mechanism that can also thin lithosphere is extension. Stretching during an extension event can result in a thinner and longer lithosphere. The two mechanisms above are the reason why we can alserve large variations in lithosphere thickness spatially across various continents and temporally throughout the geological history. 展开更多

Frequency-size relation of earthquakes in a region can be approximated by the Gutenberg-Richter law(GR). This power-law model involves two parameters: a-value measuring seismic activity or earthquake productivity, and b-value describing the relation between frequencies of small and large earthquakes. The spatial and temporal variations of these two parameters, especially the b-value, have been substantially investigated. For example, it has been shown that b-value depends inversely on differential stress. The b-value has also been utilized as earthquake precursor in large earthquake prediction. However, the physical meaning and properties of b-value including its value range still remain as an open fundamental question. We explore the property of b-value from frequency-size GR model in a new form which relates average energy release and probability of large earthquakes. Based on this new form of GR relation the b-value can be related to the singularity index(1-2/3 b) of fractal energy-probability power-law model. This model as applied to the global database of earthquakes with size M ≥ 5 from 1964 to 2015 indicates a systematic increase of singularity from earthquakes occurring on mid-ocean ridges, to those in subduction zones and in collision zones. 展开更多

The Hadamiao granodiorite, located on the northern margin of the North China platform and acting as the country rock of gold deposits in the Hadamiao region, was formed in the same age and similar tectonic settings with the Hadamiao gold deposit and the large-scale Bilihe gold deposit in the same area.By using the LA-ICP-MS method, the U-Pb age obtained is 267±1.3 Ma,which represents the crystallized age of the granodiorite, and that of the xenolithic zircon is 442.8±5 Ma. Base on the main elements,it exhibits the features of calc-alkaline to high-potassium calc-alkaline series, low silicon, and quasi-aluminous I-type granites, and with high magnesium(Mg~#=0.45-0.57) and high sodium contents(Na_2O/K_2O=0.98-2.29).The SREE values(81.6-110.15 ppm) are relatively low,the fractionations between LREE and HREE are obvious, showing a right-inclined dispersion in the REE distribution diagram.Compared with the primitive mantle, the rock is relatively rich in LREE(La and Ce),LILE(K,Sr,and Th),and intensively depleted in HFSE(Ti,P,Nb and Ta).The ratios of Sr/Y and(La/Yb)_N and the contents of Rb,Nb and Y are relatively low,the Sr values are high (436.35-567.26 ppm),and the Yb contents of most samples are low(1.25-1.8),which indicate the features of typical continental margin arc and adakitic rocks.According to the values ofε_(Nd)(t)(-2.4 to +0.2) and I_(Sr)(0.7028-0.7083),and variations of the La/Sm ratios, the Hadamiao granodiorite was formed from mixing of the thickened molten lower crust and the mantle wedge substances. The rock was related to the southward subduction and accretion of the Paleo-Asia Ocean in the Late Paleozoic, being Late Paleozoic magma of the continental margin arc formed on the basement of the Early Paleozoic accretion complexes, and showing a trend of turning into adakitic rocks, which indicates their great metallogenic(Au) potential. 展开更多

Distinguishing geochemical anomalies from background is a basic task in exploratory geochemistry. The derivation of geochemical anomalies from stream sediment geochemical data and the decomposition of these anomalies into their component patterns were described. A set of stream sediment geochemical data was obtained for 1 880 km 2 of the Pangxidong area, which is in the southern part of the recently recognized Qinzhou-Hangzhou joint tectonic belt. This belt crosses southern China and tends to the northwest (NE) direction. The total number of collected samples was 7 236, and the concentrations of Ag, Au, Cu, As, Pb and Zn were measured for each sample. The spatial combination distribution law of geochemical elements and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to construct combination models for the identification of combinations of geochemical anomalies. Spectrum-area (S-A) fractal modeling was used to strengthen weak anomalies and separate them from the background. Composite anomaly modeling was combined with fractal filtering techniques to process and analyze the geochemical data. The raster maps of Au, Ag, Cu, As, Pb and Zn were obtained by the multifractal inverse distance weighted (MIDW) method. PCA was used to combine the Au, Ag, Cu, As, Pb, and Zn concentration values. The S-A fractal method was used to decompose the first component pattern achieved by the PCA. The results show that combination anomalies from a combination of variables coincide with the known mineralization of the study area. Although the combination anomalies cannot reflect local anomalies closely enough, high-anomaly areas indicate good sites for further exploration for unknown deposits. On this basis, anomaly and background separation from combination anomalies using fractal filtering techniques can provide guidance for later work. 展开更多

Based on the fractional order theory and sliding mode control theory,a model prediction current control(MPCC)strategy based on fractional observer is proposed for the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)driven by three-level inverter.Compared with the traditional sliding mode speed observer, the observer is very simple and eases to implement. Moreover, the observer reduces the ripple of the motor speed in high frequency range in an efficient way.To reduce the stator current ripple and improve the control performance of the torque and speed, the MPCC strategy is put forward, which can make PMSM MPCC system have better control performance, stronger robustness and good dynamic performance. The simulation results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme. 展开更多

Inherited tectonic structures, ongoing tectonic deformation, and variations in relative rock uplift rates play an important role in conditioning the processes of relief development.Their influence among other factors, such as climate and lithology, can be quantified using landscape analysis, and geomorphometric indices,in particular. The usage of landscape analysis in recent years is increasing systematically due to the constant improvement of the digital elevation models and GIS software that significantly facilitate this approach. In this study,we aim to recognize the influence of tectonic structures and processes on relief development in the low mountains with moderate relief of the Sola River catchment in the Western Outer Carpathians. To this end,we calculated geomorphometric indices(river longitudinal profile,stream-length gradient index, minimum bulk erosion, relief ratio, circulatory ratio, elongation ratio, and hypsometric integral)for the Sola River and its 47 sub-catchments using a 25-m spatial resolution Digital Terrain Elevation Data Level 2.Additionally,we identified lineaments and knickpoints and correlated the computed results with local and regional fault networks, variations in lithology, and climate fluctuations.Obtained results indicate a significant impact of inherited tectonicstructures on the relief development of the Sola River catchment,i.e.,directions of principal ridges and valleys follow the orientation of main folds and faults recorded in this area.Anomalously high values of minimum bulk erosion, river gradient, and streamlength gradient index allowed us to define two areas with higher relative uplift rates:1)the So?a Gorge and 2)the Beskid Zywiecki Mts.Polish Outer Carpathians are generally considered as an area of low strain rate and low seismic activity. However, the possibility of neotectonic processes should be considered in geohazard estimations.Observed bends in the direction of river valleys that do not correspond with changes in lithology could be related to active strikeslip faults. These are probably the reactivated basement structures, copied in the thin-skinned nappe cover,as a result of the accommodation of the Mur-Zilina Fault Zone resulting from the tectonic push of the Alcapa(Alpine-Carpathian-Pannonian)microplate against the European plate. Thus, the role of recent tectonic activity in relief development of the Sola River catchment even though appears to be subsidiary at the most, should not be excluded. 展开更多
