As a case study, the methodology was applied to the whole Tibetan Plateau (TP) area. Four images of MODIS data (i.e., 30 January 2007, 15 April 2007, 1 August 2007, and 25 October 2007) were used in this study for comparison among winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The results were validated using the observations measured at the stations of the Tibetan Observation and Research Platform (TORP). The results show the following: (1) The derived surface heating field for the TP area was in good accord with the land-surface status, showing a wide range of values due to the strong contrast of surface features in the area. (2) The derived surface heating field for the TP was very close to the field measurements (observations). The APD (absolute percent difference) between the derived results and the field observations was 〈10%. (3) The mean surface heating field over the TP increased from January to April to August, and decreased in October. Therefore, the reasonable regional distribution of the surface heating field over a heterogeneous landscape can be obtained using this methodology. The limitations and further improvement of this method are also discussed.展开更多

The analysis demonstrates that the surface heating and the STE anomalies have different patterns, corresponding to the three WPJS anomalous modes, respectively. In the first WPJS anomalous mode, the WPJS main part shows no robust anomaly. The anomalous westerly wind, occurring over the mid-latitude central-eastern Pacific past the date line is associated with the anomalous heating presenting both in the tropical central-eastern Pacific past the date line and the center of the North Pacific basin. Meanwhile, the STE anomaly appears around the region of the anomalous zonal wind. The fluctuation in jet strength shown in the second WPJS mode is strongly related to the heating anomaly in the Kuroshio Current region and the STE anomaly in the jet exit region. The third mode demonstrates a northward/southward shift of the WPJS, which has a statistical connection with a south-north dipolar pattern of the heating anomaly in the western North Pacific separated at 35°N. Meanwhile, the STE spatial displacement is in conjunction with jet shifts in the same direction. The heating anomaly has a close connection with the atmospheric circulation, and thus changes the mid-latitude baroclinicity, leading to the STE anomaly, which then reinforces the WPJS anomaly via internal atmospheric dynamics.展开更多

Data analysis indicated th...The impact of surface sensible heating over the Tibetan Plateau (SHTP) on the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) with and without air-sea interaction was investigated in this study. Data analysis indicated that SHTP acts as a relatively independent factor in modulating the WPSH anomaly compared with ENSO events. Stronger spring SHTP is usually fol- lowed by an enhanced and westward extension of the WPSH in summer, and vice versa. Numerical experiments using both an AGCM and a CGCM confirmed that SHTP influences the large-scale circulation anomaly over the Pacific, which features a barotropic anticyclonic response over the northwestern Pacific and a cyclonic response to the south. Owing to different background circulation in spring and summer, such a response facilitates a subdued WPSH in spring but an en- hanced WPSH in summer. Moreover, the CGCM results showed that the equatorial low-level westerly at the south edge of the cyclonic anomaly brings about a warm SST anomaly (SSTA) in the equatorial central Pacific via surface warm advection. Subsequently, an atmospheric Rossby wave is stimulated to the northwest of the warm SSTA, which in turn enhances the at- mospheric dipole anomalies over the western Pacific. Therefore, the air-sea feedbacks involved tend to reinforce the effect of SHTP on the WPSH anomaly, and the role of SHTP on general circulation needs to be considered in a land-air-sea interaction framework.展开更多

The results show that the surface total heating over TP had a close relationship with the onset of the rainy season, and after the onset of the rainy season, the regional mean surface total heating over TP decreased distinctly. Furthermore, the regional mean surface total heating over TP had very good negative correlation with TBB over the subtropical area of the western Pacific along 20–30°N, which shows that the surface total heating over TP was able to affect the convection over the subtropical area of the western Pacific.展开更多

The failure of boiler tubes will directly impact the safe and economic operation of boiler. An on-line life monitoring model of high-temperature heating surface was set up according to the well-known L-M formula of the creep damages. The tube wall metal temperature and working stress was measured by on-line monitoring, and with this model, the real-time calculation of the life expenditure of the heating surface tube bundles were realized. Based on the technique the on-line life monitoring and management system of high-temperature heating surface was developed for a 300 MW utility boiler. An effective device was thus suggested for the implementation of the safe operation and the condition-based maintenance of utility boilers.展开更多

Knowledge of the spatiotemporal characteristics and the driving factors of UHI is essential for mitigating their impact. However, current understanding of the UHI in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA) is inadequate. Combined with data(e.g., land surface temperature and land use.) acquired from the Google Earth Engine and other sources for the period 2001–2020, this study examined the diurnal and seasonal variabilities, spatial heterogeneities, temporal trends, and drivers of surface UHI intensity(SUHII) in the GBA. The SUHII was calculated based on the urban–rural dichotomy, which has been proven an effective method. The average SUHII was generally 0–2°C, and the SUHII in daytime was generally greater than that at night. The maximum(minimum) SUHII was found in summer(winter);similarly, the largest(smallest) diurnal difference in SUHII was during summer(winter). Generally, the Mann–Kendall trend test and the Sen's slope estimator revealed a statistically insignificant upward trend in SUHII on all time scales. The influence of driving factors on SUHII was examined using the Geo-Detector model. It was found that the number of continuous impervious pixels had the greatest impact, and that the urban–rural difference in the enhanced vegetation index had the smallest impact, suggesting that anthropogenic heat emissions and urban size are the main influencing factors. Thus, controlling urban expansion and reducing anthropogenic heat generation are effective approaches for alleviating surface UHI.展开更多

We first employ Fourier transformation to remove the influence of atmospheric temperature variations from the observation series, which are classified into the type of the steady-state temperature monotonously increasing with depth (type I) and other three types. Then we compare our results obtained from the data of type I, of which the values are thought to equal to those of the mean borehole heat flow, with those obtained from traditional heat flow observations mainly distributed in North China Craton. In computations of the SAHF at the observation stations, we deduce the thermal diffusivity and volumetric specific heat of the soil by employing harmonic solutions of the heat conduction equation for the same moisture group as the first step, and then we determine the SAHF using Fourier's law. Our results indicate that the SAHF derived from shallow earth geothermal data can reflect the heat flow field to a large extent.展开更多

An independently designed novel ocular contacttype temperature measuring device was used to measure the ocular surface temperature before and after the heating. Relevant retrobulbar hemodynamic parameters such as peak systolic velocity(PSV), end diastolic velocity(EDV), and resistance index(RI) of each of the central retinal artery(CRA), long posterior ciliary artery(LPCA), and ophthalmic artery(OA), as well as the mean velocity(V_m) of the central retinal vein(CRV), were measured using a color Doppler flow imaging(CDFI) technique and expressed as mean values with standard deviation(mean±SD). A statistical analysis was conducted based on a paired t-test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. RESULTS: The employed real-time temperature measuring device was able to accurately measure ocular surface temperature during the hot-compress process. The temperature increased after the hot compress was applied. Analysis showed that the PSV and EDV values of the CRA and LPCA significantly increased after the application of the hot compress, as did the V_m of the CRV. There were no significant changes in the EDV of the OA nor the RI of each artery. CONCLUSION: This experiment, which is the first of its kind, confirms that the retrobulbar blood flow velocities can increase upon heating the ocular surface. This simple method may be useful in the future.展开更多

The Advanced Weather Research and Forecasting (ARW-WRF) model and its different land surface models (LSMs) were employed to study the impacts of land surface process on the inland behavior of Typhoon Rananim. Results show that simulations, coupled with LSMs or not, have no significant differences in predicting typhoon track, intensity, and largescale circulation. However, the simulations of mesoscale structure, rainfall rate, and rainfall distribution of typhoon are more reasonable with LSMs than without LSMs. Although differences are slight among LSMs, NOAH is better than the others. Based on outputs using the NOAH scheme, the interaction between land surtace and typhoon was explored in this study. Notably, typhoon rainfall and cloud cover can cool land surface, but rainfall expands the underlying saturated wetland area, which exacerbates the asymmetric distribution of surface heat fluxes. Accordingly, an energy frontal zone may form in the lower troposphere that enhances ascending motion and local convection, resulting in heavier rainfall. Moreover, the expanded underlying saturated wetlands provide plentiful moisture and unstable energy for the maintenance of Typhoon Rananim and increased rainfall in return.展开更多

After examining the major current systems and considering the local bathymetry and watermass properties, we divide YES into five regions: East China Sea (ECS) shelf, Yellow Sea (YS) Basin,Cheju bifurcation (CB) zone, Taiwan Warm Current (TWC) region, Kuroshio Current (KC) region. Thelong term mean surface heat balance corresponds to a heat loss of 30 W m^(-2) in the ESC and CBregions, a heat loss of 65 W m^(-2) in the KC and TWC regions, and a heat gain of 15 W m^(-2) in theYS region. The surface freshwater balance is defined by precipitation minus evaporation. The annualwater loss from the surface for the five subareas ranges from 1.8 to 4 cm month^(-1). The freshwater loss from the surface should be compensated for from the river run-off. The entire watercolumn of the shelf region (ECS, YS, and CB) undergoes an evident seasonal thermal cycle withmaximum values of temperature during summer and maximum mixed layer depths during winter. However, only the surface waters of the TWC and KC regions exhibit a seasonal thermal cycle.. We also foundtwo different relations between surface salinity and the Yangtze River run-off, namely, out-of-phasein the East China Sea shelf and in-phase in the Yellow Sea. This may confirm an earlier study thatthe summer fresh water discharge from the Yangtze River forms a relatively shallow, low salinityplume-like structure extending offshore on average towards the northeast.展开更多

Based on analysis of the land surface heterogeneity and its effects on the overlying air flow, the use of SL observations, atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) observations, and satellite remote sensing (RS) measurements along with three parameterization methodologies (here, termed as the RS, tile, and blending approaches) have been proposed to estimate the surface heat flux densities over heterogeneous landscapes. The tile and blending approaches have also been implemented during HEIhe basin Field Experiment (HEIFE), the Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP) Asia-Australia Monsoon Project on the Tibetan Plateau (CAMP/Tibet), the Arid Environment Comprehensive Monitoring Plan '95 (AECMP'95), and the DunHuang Experiment (DHEX). The results showed that these two proposed parameterization methodologies can be accurately used over heterogeneous land surfaces.展开更多

文摘In this study, a parameterization scheme based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data and in-situ data was tested for deriving the regional surface heating field over a heterogeneous landscape. The limitations and further improvement of this method are also discussed.

文摘Efficient and accurate prediction of ocean surface latent heat fluxes is essential for understanding and modeling climate dynamics.Conventional estimation methods have low resolution and lack accuracy. The transformer model, with its self-attention mechanism, effectively captures long-range dependencies, leading to a degradation of accuracy over time.Due to the non-linearity and uncertainty of physical processes, the transformer model encounters the problem of error accumulation, leading to a degradation of accuracy over time.To solve this problem,we combine the Data Assimilation(DA)technique with the transformer model and continuously modify the model state to make it closer to the actual observations. In this paper,we propose a deep learning model called TransNetDA,which integrates transformer, convolutional neural network and DA methods.By combining data-driven and DA methods for spatiotemporal prediction,TransNetDA effectively extracts multi-scale spatial features and significantly improves prediction accuracy. The experimental results indicate that the TransNetDA method surpasses traditional techniques in terms of root mean square error and R2 metrics, showcasing its superior performance in predicting latent heat fluxes at the ocean surface.

文摘The relationships between the 200-hPa westerly jet stream anomalies over the East Asian coastal waterwestern Pacific (WPJS), and the oceanic surface heating and synoptic-scale transient eddy (STE) activity anomalies over the North Pacific in wintertime are examined by using ERA-40 and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data. The heating anomaly has a close connection with the atmospheric circulation, and thus changes the mid-latitude baroclinicity, leading to the STE anomaly, which then reinforces the WPJS anomaly via internal atmospheric dynamics.
文摘A linear steady model is constructed to investigate the response of the tropical atmosphere to diabatic heating. The basic equations are similar to those used by Gill(1980),but the long-wave approximation is removed and periodic boundary conditions are taken in longitude.According to the features of the underlying surface temperature(including oceans and land),the heat sources(sinks)are given.Using this analytical model,we have simulated the climatological fields of wind and air pressure in the lower layers of the tropical and subtropical atmosphere in summer(June—August)and winter(December—February). The main features of observations are depicted in simulated fields.

文摘The impact of surface sensible heating over the Tibetan Plateau (SHTP) on the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) with and without air-sea interaction was investigated in this study. Therefore, the air-sea feedbacks involved tend to reinforce the effect of SHTP on the WPSH anomaly, and the role of SHTP on general circulation needs to be considered in a land-air-sea interaction framework.

文摘Using the dataset of 1998 TIPEX, the data of 6 automatic heat balance observational stations (AWS) from May to August 1998, a dataset of 52 surface observational stations over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) and its adjacent region, the daily rainfall amounts from about 300 stations in China, the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data received by the National Satellite Meteorological Center(NSMC) of China, and TBB data from GMS remote sensing of Japan, the characteristics of the seasonal variation of the surface total heating over TP and its surrounding area in summer 1998 and its relationship with the convection over the subtropical area of the western Pacific is studied in this paper. The results show that the surface total heating over TP had a close relationship with the onset of the rainy season, and after the onset of the rainy season, the regional mean surface total heating over TP decreased distinctly. Furthermore, the regional mean surface total heating over TP had very good negative correlation with TBB over the subtropical area of the western Pacific along 20–30°N, which shows that the surface total heating over TP was able to affect the convection over the subtropical area of the western Pacific.

文摘The distinctive conditions present on the north and south slopes of Mount Qomolangma, along with the intricate variations in the underlying surfaces, result in notable variations in the surface energy flux patterns of the two slopes. In this paper, data from TESEBS(Topographical Enhanced Surface Energy Balance System),remote sensing data from eight cloud-free scenarios, and observational data from nine stations are utilized to examine the fluctuations in the surface heat flux on both slopes. The inclusion of MCD43A3 satellite data enhances the surface albedo, contributing to more accurate simulation outcomes. The model results are validated using observational data. The RMSEs of the net radiation, ground heat, sensible heat, and latent heat flux are 40.73,17.09,33.26,and 30.91 W m^(−2),respectively.The net radiation flux is greater on the south slope and exhibits a rapid decline from summer to autumn.Due to the influence of the monsoon,on the north slope, the maximum sensible heat flux occurs in the pre-monsoon period in summer and the maximum latent heat flux occurs during the monsoon. The south slope experiences the highest latent heat flux in summer. The dominant flux on the north slope is sensible heat, while it is latent heat on the south slope. The seasonal variations in the ground heat flux are more pronounced on the south slope than on the north slope.Except in summer, the ground heat flux on the north slope surpasses that on the south slope.
文摘In common, the waste heat of the flue gas is recovered and utilized to heat the low temperature feedwater by installing the low temperature economizer(LTE),which can save the steam extracted from the steam turbine and then increase the unit output. However, restricted by the low temperature of waste flue gas,the energy-saving efect is inconspicuous.Based on the common waste heat utilization system of the flue gas.
文摘High-temperature heating surface such as superheater and reheater of large-sized utility boiler all experiences a relatively severe working conditions. An effective device was thus suggested for the implementation of the safe operation and the condition-based maintenance of utility boilers.

文摘This work evaluates the performances of climate models in simulating the Southern Ocean(SO)sea surface temperature(SST)by a large ensemble from phases 5 and 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP5 and CMIP6).By combining models from the same community sharing highly similar SO SST biases and eliminating the effect of global-mean biases on local SST biases, the results reveal that the ensemble-mean SO SST bias at 70°-30°S decreases from 0.38℃ in CMIP5 to 0.28℃ in CMIP6,together with increased intermodel consistency. The dominant mode of the intermodel variations in the zonal-mean SST biases is characterized as a meridional uniform warm bias pattern, explaining 79.1% of the intermodel variance and exhibiting positive principal values for most models. The ocean mixed layer heat budget further demonstrates that the SST biases at 70°-50°S primarily result from the excessive summertime heating effect from surface net heat flux. The biases in surface net heat flux south of 50°S are largely impacted by surface shortwave radiation from cloud and clear sky components at different latitudes.North of 50°S,the underestimated westerlies reduce the northward Ekman transport and hence northward cold advection in models, leading to warm SST biases year-round.In addition, the westerly biases are primarily traced back to the atmosphere-alone model simulations forced by the observed SST and sea ice. These results disclose the thermal origin at the high latitude and dynamical origin at the low latitude of the SO SST biases and underscore the significance of the deficiencies of atmospheric models in producing the SO SST biases.

文摘The urban heat island(UHI) is an environmental problem of wide concern because it poses a threat to both the human living environment and the sustainable development of cities. Thus, controlling urban expansion and reducing anthropogenic heat generation are effective approaches for alleviating surface UHI.

文摘We attempt to compute the Surface Average Heat Flow (SAHF) from long-term temperature observations of one hundred seventy-seven observational points at the depths of 0.8, 1.6, and 3.2 m, which were relatively evenly distributed in China's Mainland. Our results indicate that the SAHF derived from shallow earth geothermal data can reflect the heat flow field to a large extent.

文摘Based on the thermo-electro-elastic coupling theory, the mathematical model for a surface heated piezoelectric semiconductor(PS)plate is developed in the time domain.Applying the direct and inverse Laplace transformations to the established model, the mechanical and electrical responses are investigated. The comparison between the analytical solution and the finite element method(FEM)is conducted, which illustrates the validity of the derivation. The calculated results show that the maximum values of the mechanical and electrical fields appear at the heating surface.Importantly, the perturbation carriers tend to concentrate in the zone near the heating surface under the given boundary conditions. It can also be observed that the heating induced elastic wave leads to jumps for the electric potential and perturbation carrier density at the wavefront. When the thermal relaxation time is introduced, all the field quantities become smaller because of the thermal lagging effect.Meanwhile,it can be found that the thermal relaxation time can describe the smooth variation at the jump position.Besides, for a plate with P-N junction, the effect of the interface position on the electrical response is studied. The effects of the initial carrier density on the electrical properties are discussed in detail. The conclusions in this article can be the guidance for the design of PS devices serving in thermal environment.

文摘AIM: To investigate the ocular hemodynamic effects of applying a hot compress to the eye.METHODS: The right eyes of five New Zealand white rabbits, both male and female, were hot-compressed for 18 min. This simple method may be useful in the future.

文摘On 12 August 2004, Typhoon Rananim (0414) moved inland over China and stagnated over the Poyang Lake area, resulting in torrential rainfall and severe geologic hazards. Moreover, the expanded underlying saturated wetlands provide plentiful moisture and unstable energy for the maintenance of Typhoon Rananim and increased rainfall in return.
文摘We use the U.S. Navy's Master Oceanographic Observation Data Set (MOODS) forthe Yellow Sea/ East China Sea (YES) to investigate the climatological water mass features and theseasonal and non-seasonal variabilities of the thermohaline structure, and use the ComprehensiveOcean-Atmosphere Data Set (COADS) from 1945 to 1989 to investigate the linkage between the fluxes(momentum, heat, and moisture) across the air-ocean interface and the formation of the water massfeatures. This may confirm an earlier study thatthe summer fresh water discharge from the Yangtze River forms a relatively shallow, low salinityplume-like structure extending offshore on average towards the northeast.

文摘The regional heat flux exchange between heterogeneous landscapes and the nearby surface layer (SL) is a key issue in the study of land-atmosphere interactions over arid areas such as the Heihe River basin in northwestern China and in high elevation areas such as the Tibetan Plateau. The results showed that these two proposed parameterization methodologies can be accurately used over heterogeneous land surfaces.
