This study was intended to compare coagulation behavior and floc properties of two dualcoagulants polyaluminum chloride–compound bioflocculant(PAC–CBF)(PAC dose first) and compound bioflocculant–polyaluminum chloride(CBF–PAC)(CBF dose first) with those of PAC alone in low temperature drinking water treatment. Results showed that dualcoagulants could improve DOC removal efficiency from 30% up to 34%. Moreover, CBF contributed to the increase of floc size and growth rate, especially those of PAC–CBF were almost twice bigger than those of PAC. However, dual-coagulants formed looser and weaker flocs with lower breakage factors in which fractal dimension of PAC–CBF flocs was low which indicates a looser floc structure. The floc recovery ability was in the following order:PAC–CBF 〉 PAC alone 〉 CBF–PAC. The flocculation mechanism of PAC was charge neutralization and enmeshment, meanwhile the negatively charged CBF added absorption and bridging effect. 展开更多

A spontaneous potential satisfies an elliptic equivalued surface boundary value problem with discontinuous interface conditions. In practice, the measuring electrode is so small that we can simplify the corresponding equivalued surface to a point. In this paper, we give a positive answer to this approximation process:when the equivalued surface shrinks to a point, the solution of the original equivalued surface boundary value problem converges to the solution of the corresponding limit boundary value problem. 展开更多

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of a new combined micro/nanoscale implant surface feature on osteoblasts' behaviors including cell morphology, adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization in vitro. A new micro/nano-hybrid topography surface was fabricated on commercial pure titanium(Cp Ti) by a two-step sandblasted acid-etching and subsequent alkali-and heattreatment(SA-AH). The conventional sandblasted/acid-etching(SA) treatment and alkali and heat(AH) treatment were also carried out on the Cp Ti as controls. Surface microstructures of the Ti disc samples were assessed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The neonatal rat calvaria-derived osteoblasts were seeded on these discs and the initial cell morphology was evaluated by SEM and immunofluorescence. Initial adhesion of the cells was then assayed by DAPI staining at 1, 2, and 4 h after seeding. The Cell Counting Kit-8(CCact K8) assay, gene expression of osteoblastic markers(ALP, Col 1, OCN, BSP, OSX, Cbfα1) and Alizarin Red S staining assays were monitored respectively for cell proliferations, differentiation and mineralization. The results show significant differences in osteoblast's behaviors on the four kinds of Ti surfaces. Compared with Cp Ti surface, the SA and AH treatment can significantly promote cell adhesion, differentiation and mineralization of osteoblasts. In particular, the combined SA and AH treatments exhibit synergistic effects in comparison with the treatment of SA and AH individually, and are more favorable for stimulating a series of osteogenous responses from cell adhesion to mineralization of osteoblasts. In summary, this study provides some new evidence that the integrated micro/nanostructure on the Cp Ti surface may promote bone osseointegration between the Ti implantbone interfaces in vitro. 展开更多

The size effect of impact abrasive particles on wear and surface hardening behavior of high-manganese steel was studied.Impact wear tests were carried out on MLD-10 tester with abrasive particle sizes of 6.0–0.75 mm,respectively.The results showed that the impact wear behavior and surface hardening mechanism of high-manganese steel were affected by the size of abrasive particles.A critical size of abrasive particle might exhibit to distinguish the impact wear behavior.When the abrasive particle size was larger than 0.75 mm,the wear mass loss generally showed a decreasing trend with the decrease of the abrasive particle size.Dislocation strengthening and mechanical twinning contributed to the good work hardening behavior.However,effective surface hardening layer could not be formed for sample tested with particle size of 0.75 mm and the wear mass loss was the highest among all the conditions.The weak hardening effect led to the sharp increase of the wear mass loss.Press-in abrasives could be observed on the wear surface when the abrasive particle size was larger than 0.75 mm.The press-in abrasives were peeled off from the wear surface and broken,leaving deep grooves and peeling pits.Material exchange with the sample would occur with the flow of abrasives.A large area of furrow was formed on the wear surface.For particle size of 0.75 mm,aggregated abrasives formed a dynamic buffer layer on the surface and the stress distribution was more even.The formation of buffer layer would lower the effect of the impact load and the work hardening effect could not be fully activated.The mutual extrusion among the abrasives,friction wheel and sample caused plastic deformation of the worn surface during impact test.The present study would help guiding to select the application field of high-manganese steel more precisely. 展开更多

The experiment utilized commercial hot-dip Zn-1.2Al-1.2Mg(designated ZM)coated steel sheets,which were heated in a resistance furnace and held for 5 min at temperatures ranging from 600℃to 900℃.The main goal was to investigate the effect of heating temperature on the surface oxidation behavior of the ZM coating.The results show that at lower heating temperatures,the surface oxides are mainly composed of an original thin Al_(2)O_(3) layer,which acted as a barrier preventing further oxidation of the coating.By contrast,at higher heating temperatures,intermetallic phase formation caused Al_(2)O_(3) layer fragmentation.As a result,the oxide layer of the coating surface became more complex,featuring thicker Al_(2)O_(3),MgO,and ZnO. 展开更多

Isomorphic substitution of ferric ion(Fe~(3+))by aluminum ion(Al~(3+))in iron(hydro)oxides is ubiquitous in natural environments.Aluminum substitution inevitably leads to changes in the microstructures,physicochemical properties,and surface reactions of iron(hydro)oxides,which may have great impacts on the sequestration of nutrients and contaminants in soils and aquatic environments.Over the past decades,the structural properties and surface reactivity of Al-substituted iron(hydro)oxides have been intensively studied.Iron(hydro)oxides in various structural forms and with different Al substitution amounts present high application potentials in addressing environmental issues.A timely summary of the structural properties and interfacial reactions of the most common and representative Al-substituted iron(hydro)oxides is of significance.Herein,the effects of Al substitution on the structural properties and surface activities of iron(hydro)oxides were clarified according to the microstructure,crystal facets,surface site type and density,interfacial reaction mechanisms,and modeling parameters of iron(hydro)oxides.This review systematically elucidates how Al substitution affects the structural properties and surface reactions of iron(hydro)oxides,including the well crystallized goethite and hematite and the poorly crystallized ferrihydrite,providing theoretical guidance for further exploration of the mineralogical characteristics and environmental geochemical behaviors of iron(hydro)oxides. 展开更多

A novel process was proposed to strengthen the decomposition of the mixed rare earth concentrate by utilizing the microwave radiation.Mineralogical information on the mechanisms by which microwave heating improved the leaching behavior of rare earth elements(REEs),and an interpretation of the interrelationship between mineralogy,decomposition process,and leaching process were provided in this study.The influences of the temperature,time of microwave heating and contents of NaO H(mass ratio of NaO H to mixed rare earth concentrate)on the decomposition of mixed rare earth concentrate were investigated.The results revealed that the temperature was the main factor affecting the decomposition process.The recovery of REEs by hydrochloric acid leaching reached 93.28% under the microwave heating conditions:140 oC,30 min and 35.35% NaO H.The BET specific surface area and SEM analysis indicated that the particles of mixed rare earth concentrate were non-hole,while the particles presented a porous structure after heating the concentrate by microwave radiation.For the microwave treated sample after water leaching,the BET specific surface area was 11.04 m^2/g,which was higher than the corresponding values(6.94 m^2/g)for the mixed rare earth concentrate.This result could be attributed to the phase changes of bastnaesite and monazite,and a number of cracks induced by thermal stress.The increase of BET specific surface area resulted in an increase of the recovery of REEs by promoting interaction within the system of acid leaching. 展开更多

Self-catalytic reactions have consistently been implicated in the high-temperature corrosion mechanism of NiAl-phase coatings in NaCl-or Na_(2)SO_(4)-containing mediums,with little discussion concerning the adsorption and competitive behavior of complex environmental molecules.This study investigated the adsorption and dissociation behavior of a series of gas-phase molecules(O_(2),H_(2)O,SO_(3),S_(2),H_(2)S,Cl_(2)and HCl)on the NiAl(110)surface using first-principles calculations.The findings reveal a mechanism of competitive adsorption and dissociation,with two distinct adsorption dissociation behaviors observed upon the introduction of Pt or Hf elements.Pt-doping inhibits the surface adsorption behavior of self-catalytic molecules,while Hf significantly enhances the adsorption and dissociation of oxygen-carrying molecules.By preparing three types of NiAl-phase coatings(β-NiAl,(Ni,Pt)Al,and Hf-(Ni,Pt)Al)and conducting corrosion tests in the presence of NaCl or Na_(2)SO_(4),it is determined that the excellent corrosion resistance of Hf-(Ni,Pt)Al can be attributed to the combined effects of Pt in delaying corrosion reactions and Hf in promoting the formation of a protective oxide scale.A comprehensive analysis,combining first-principles calculations and experimental observations,was conducted to elucidate the corrosion mechanisms of three coatings in different corrosion mediums. 展开更多
