The uplift resistance of the soil overlying shield tunnels significantly impacts their anti-floating stability.However,research on uplift resistance concerning special-shaped shield tunnels is limited.This study combi...The uplift resistance of the soil overlying shield tunnels significantly impacts their anti-floating stability.However,research on uplift resistance concerning special-shaped shield tunnels is limited.This study combines numerical simulation with machine learning techniques to explore this issue.It presents a summary of special-shaped tunnel geometries and introduces a shape coefficient.Through the finite element software,Plaxis3D,the study simulates six key parameters—shape coefficient,burial depth ratio,tunnel’s longest horizontal length,internal friction angle,cohesion,and soil submerged bulk density—that impact uplift resistance across different conditions.Employing XGBoost and ANN methods,the feature importance of each parameter was analyzed based on the numerical simulation results.The findings demonstrate that a tunnel shape more closely resembling a circle leads to reduced uplift resistance in the overlying soil,whereas other parameters exhibit the contrary effects.Furthermore,the study reveals a diminishing trend in the feature importance of buried depth ratio,internal friction angle,tunnel longest horizontal length,cohesion,soil submerged bulk density,and shape coefficient in influencing uplift resistance.展开更多
To meet the increased demand for light-weight and high-performance special-shaped load bearing parts in automotive industry,the short carbon fiber reinforced magnesium matrix composite(C_(sf)/Mg)part with complex conf...To meet the increased demand for light-weight and high-performance special-shaped load bearing parts in automotive industry,the short carbon fiber reinforced magnesium matrix composite(C_(sf)/Mg)part with complex configuration features and abrupt cross-sectional transitions was fabricated by liquid-solid extrusion following vacuum pressure infiltration process(LSEVI).Near-net forming schemes of both the special-shaped fiber preform and composite part were proposed.The effect of process parameters on the forming quality of the composite part was discussed.Meanwhile,the microstructures and compressive properties in different regions of the part were analyzed.The results show that the forward forming scheme provides the special-shaped fiber preform with no surface defects.For the C_(sf)/AZ91D part,its internal microstructures show that the infiltration of liquid magnesium is sufficient and uniform.The compressive strength of the composite part can reach up to 487 MPa,corresponding to~40%increase compared to 335 MPa of the AZ91D alloy.The average compressive strain of composites is less than 10%,which is about 50%of that of the AZ91D alloy.When the fiber orientation is parallel to the shear direction on the shear plane,the load-bearing capacity of the fiber is much higher than that of the fiber perpendicular to the shear direction.This work not only provides a convenient approach to fabricate special-shaped preform with high fiber volume fraction,but also gives a demonstration for the near-net forming of C_(sf)/Mg parts with excellent material isotropy and compressive properties.展开更多
Specially shaped permanent magnet structures can satisfy the requirements of equipment with limited space or unique shapes.Thereby,these optimize the distribution of magnetic fields.However,traditional manufacturing m...Specially shaped permanent magnet structures can satisfy the requirements of equipment with limited space or unique shapes.Thereby,these optimize the distribution of magnetic fields.However,traditional manufacturing methods are limited by the mold design and insufficient material utilization.In this study,a polymer-based Nd_(2)Fe_(14)B(NdFeB)magnetic slurry was developed based on direct ink writing(DIW)3D printing technology.A rapidly volatilizable magnetic slurry was used to achieve 3D oriented controllable layering,thus realizing the direct molding fabrication of NdFeB permanent magnets with complex structures.By exploring and optimizing the 3D printing process parameters,specially shaped bonded NdFeB permanent magnet structures with high precision and shape fidelity were prepared.The test results indicated that the remnant magnetization of the printed magnets was proportional to the NdFeB content in the slurry,the coercivity closely matched that of the original powder,and the mechanical properties of the printed magnets were favorable.Building on this,a magnetically driven helical-structure robot was designed and printed to achieve stable motion in low-Reynolds-number fluids.This paper presents a new,low-cost solution for the room-temperature preparation of shape-bonded NdFeB permanent magnets.展开更多

In movable electrode structures, springs are typically used to push the ...The electrode structures in ignition devices for Electrically Controlled Solid Propellants(ECSP) can be classified into fixed and movable types. In movable electrode structures, springs are typically used to push the electrodes and the propellant. The effects of spring pressure on the ignition and combustion of propellants have not yet been studied. In this paper, a universal testing machine and an electrochemical workstation were firstly utilized to investigate the compressive mechanical property and conductivity of Hydroxylamine Nitrate(HAN)-ECSP. The maximum pressure at which the propellant undergoes elastic deformation is 65 kPa. When the spring pressure increased from 5.1 k Pa to 20.4 kPa, the propellant resistance decreased from 56.8 Ω to 36.8 Ω.Various observation methods were employed to study the process of electrical energy injection and the ignition and combustion characteristics under constant voltage. Appropriately increasing the spring pressure can accelerate the injection of electrical energy into the propellant, increase the electrification current, and thus reduce the initial ignition delay time of the propellant. When the spring pressure is 20.4 kPa, the squeezing speed of the propellant is too fast, making it difficult for the propellant to be adequately heated at the electrode interface, which is unfavorable for ignition. Excessive spring pressure also leads to the accumulation of a large amount of combustion residue on the electrode plate, hindering the mixing and diffusion of hot gases during the second ignition process, preventing the gaseous flame of the propellant. When the spring pressure is 5.1 kPa, improving the working voltage can enhance the repeated ignition characteristics of the propellant.展开更多
Self-Centering Piston-Based Braced Frames(SC-PBBFs)are designed to curtail structural damage under severe ground motions.The self-centering mechanism in this bracing mitigates structural damage during an earthquake,th...Self-Centering Piston-Based Braced Frames(SC-PBBFs)are designed to curtail structural damage under severe ground motions.The self-centering mechanism in this bracing mitigates structural damage during an earthquake,thereby reducing post-earthquake repair costs and contributing to seismic resilience.However,non-structural components,particularly those sensitive to floor acceleration,remain vulnerable,resulting in prolonged func-tional recovery times.This paper aims to address this limitation by introducing a novel structural archetype,the Self-Centering Viscous-Based Braced Frame(SC-VBBF),which integrates superelastic shape memory alloy(SMA)bars,viscous dampers(VDs),and friction springs(FSs).A streamlined analytical approach relies on the strength decoupling of VD from other components using aλfactor to design SC-VBBFs.To evaluate the effectiveness of the hybrid brace,a set of 4-,8-,and 12-story archetypes equipped with SC-PBBs and SC-VBBFs are simulated in OpenSees and analyzed under various earthquake types,including crustal,subcrustal,and subduction events.The results demonstrate the superior performance of the SC-VBBF withλ≤0.5 system compared to SC-PBBFs in mitigating floor accelerations under design-level earthquakes and improving seismic resilience.展开更多

Based on the concentric cylinder shearing theory, considering the changes of pile shape(such as, taper angle and diameters of pile base, etc.), the load-transfer of special-shaped pile was built. The accuracy of the developed simplified approach was verified by numerical simulation model with the same condition. Then, the influence factors, such as, taper angles, the diameter of pile base, surcharge, and pile-soil interface parameters were analyzed and discussed. The results show that the developed simplified approach can calculate NSF of special-shaped pile under surcharge effectively. A limited parametric study indicates that in many practical situations special-shaped piles(such as belled wedge pile shown in this work) offer a design option that is more economical than traditional uniform cross-section piles.展开更多
