In order to solve the problem that existing multivariate grey incidence models cannot be applied to time series on different scales, a new model is proposed based on spatial pyramid pooling.Firstly, local features of multivariate time series on different scales are pooled and aggregated by spatial pyramid pooling to construct n levels feature pooling matrices on the same scale. Secondly,Deng's multivariate grey incidence model is introduced to measure the degree of incidence between feature pooling matrices at each level. Thirdly, grey incidence degrees at each level are integrated into a global incidence degree. Finally, the performance of the proposed model is verified on two data sets compared with a variety of algorithms. The results illustrate that the proposed model is more effective and efficient than other similarity measure algorithms. 展开更多

Sinus floor elevation with a lateral window approach requires bone graft(BG)to ensure sufficient bone mass, and it is necessary to measure and analyse the BG region for follow-up of postoperative patients. However, the BG region from cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)images is connected to the margin of the maxillary sinus, and its boundary is blurred.Common segmentation methods are usually performed manually by experienced doctors, and are complicated by challenges such as low efficiency and low precision. In this study,an auto-segmentation approach was applied to the BG region within the maxillary sinus based on an atrous spatial pyramid convolution(ASPC)network. The ASPC module was adopted using residual connections to compose multiple atrous convolutions, which could extract more features on multiple scales.Subsequently,a segmentation network of the BG region with multiple ASPC modules was established, which effectively improved the segmentation performance.Although the training data were insufficient, our networks still achieved good auto-segmentation results, with a dice coefficient(Dice)of 87.13%,an Intersection over Union(Iou)of 78.01%,and a sensitivity of 95.02%.Compared with other methods, our method achieved a better segmentation effect, and effectively reduced the misjudgement of segmentation. Our method can thus be used to implement automatic segmentation of the BG region and improve doctors’work efficiency, which is of great importance for developing preliminary studies on the measurement of postoperative BG within the maxillary sinus. 展开更多

Face recognition is a big challenge in the research field with a lot of problems like misalignment, illumination changes, pose variations, occlusion, and expressions.Providing a single solution to solve all these problems at a time is a challenging task.We have put some effort to provide a solution to solving all these issues by introducing a face recognition model based on local tetra patterns and spatial pyramid matching. The technique is based on a procedure where the input image is passed through an algorithm that extracts local features by using spatial pyramid matching andmax-pooling.Finally,the input image is recognized using a robust kernel representation method using extracted features. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the proposed method is carried on benchmark image datasets.Experimental results showed that the proposed method performs better in terms of standard performance evaluation parameters as compared to state-of-the-art methods on AR,ORL,LFW,and FERET face recognition datasets. 展开更多

Pulmonary nodules represent an early manifestation of lung cancer. However, pulmonary nodules only constitute a small portion of the overall image, posing challenges for physicians in image interpretation and potentially leading to false positives or missed detections. To solve these problems, the YOLOv8 network is enhanced by adding deformable convolution and atrous spatial pyramid pooling(ASPP),along with the integration of a coordinate attention(CA)mechanism. This allows the network to focus on small targets while expanding the receptive field without losing resolution. At the same time, context information on the target is gathered and feature expression is enhanced by attention modules in different directions. It effectively improves the positioning accuracy and achieves good results on the LUNA16 dataset.Compared with other detection algorithms,it improves the accuracy of pulmonary nodule detection to a certain extent. 展开更多

Audio-visual scene classification(AVSC)poses a formidable challenge owing to the intricate spatial-temporal relationships exhibited by audio-visual signals, coupled with the complex spatial patterns of objects and textures found in visual images. The focus of recent studies has predominantly revolved around extracting features from diverse neural network structures, inadvertently neglecting the acquisition of semantically meaningful regions and crucial components within audio-visual data. The authors present a feature pyramid attention network(FPANet)for audio-visual scene understanding, which extracts semantically significant characteristics from audio-visual data. The authors’approach builds multi-scale hierarchical features of sound spectrograms and visual images using a feature pyramid representation and localises the semantically relevant regions with a feature pyramid attention module(FPAM).A dimension alignment(DA)strategy is employed to align feature maps from multiple layers,a pyramid spatial attention(PSA)to spatially locate essential regions, and a pyramid channel attention(PCA)to pinpoint significant temporal frames.Experiments on visual scene classification(VSC),audio scene classification(ASC),and AVSC tasks demonstrate that FPANet achieves performance on par with state-of-the-art(SOTA)approaches,with a 95.9 F1-score on the ADVANCE dataset and a relative improvement of 28.8%.Visualisation results show that FPANet can prioritise semantically meaningful areas in audio-visual signals. 展开更多

Aiming at the problems of low detection efficiency and difficult positioning of traditional steel surface defect detection methods,a lightweight steel surface defect detection model based on you only look once version 7(YOLOv7)is proposed.First,a cascading style sheets(CSS)block module is proposed, which uses more lightweight operations to obtain redundant information in the feature map, reduces the amount of computation, and effectively improves the detection speed.Secondly, the improved spatial pyramid pooling with cross stage partial convolutions(SPPCSPC)structure is adopted to ensure that the model can also pay attention to the defect location information while predicting the defect category information, obtain richer defect features. In addition, the convolution operation in the original model is simplified, which significantly reduces the size of the model and helps to improve the detection speed. Finally, using efficient intersection over union(EIOU)loss to focus on high-quality anchors, speed up convergence and improve positioning accuracy.Experiments were carried out on the Northeastern University-defect(NEU-DET)steel surface defect dataset.Compared with the original YOLOv7 model, the number of parameters of this model was reduced by 40%,the frames per second(FPS)reached 112,and the average accuracy reached 79.1%,the detection accuracy and speed have been improved, which can meet the needs of steel surface defect detection. 展开更多

In order to meet the requirements of accurate identification of surface defects on copper strip in industrial production,a detection model of surface defects based on machine vision,CSC-YOLO,is proposed. The model uses YOLOv4-tiny as the benchmark network.First,K-means clustering is introduced into the benchmark network to obtain anchor frames that match the self-built dataset.Second,a cross-region fusion module is introduced in the backbone network to solve the difficult target recognition problem by fusing contextual semantic information.Third, the spatial pyramid pooling-efficient channel attention network(SPP-E)module is introduced in the path aggregation network(PANet)to enhance the extraction of features.Fourth,to prevent the loss of channel information,a lightweight attention mechanism is introduced to improve the performance of the network. Finally, the performance of the model is improved by adding adjustment factors to correct the loss function for the dimensional characteristics of the surface defects.CSC-YOLO was tested on the self-built dataset of surface defects in copper strip, and the experimental results showed that the mAP of the model can reach 93.58%,which is a 3.37% improvement compared with the benchmark network, and FPS,although decreasing compared with the benchmark network, reached 104.CSC-YOLO takes into account the real-time requirements of copper strip production. The comparison experiments with Faster RCNN,SSD300,YOLOv3,YOLOv4,Resnet50-YOLOv4,YOLOv5s,YOLOv7,and other algorithms show that the algorithm obtains a faster computation speed while maintaining a higher detection accuracy. 展开更多

Due to the rapid evolution of Advanced Persistent Threats(APTs)attacks, the emergence of new and rare attack samples, and even those never seen before, make it challenging for traditional rule-based detection methods to extract universal rules for effective detection. With the progress in techniques such as transfer learning and meta-learning,few-shot network attack detection has progressed. However, challenges in few-shot network attack detection arise from the inability of time sequence flow features to adapt to the fixed length input requirement of deep learning, difficulties in capturing rich information from original flow in the case of insufficient samples, and the challenge of high-level abstract representation. To address these challenges,a few-shot network attack detection based on NFHP(Network Flow Holographic Picture)-RN(ResNet)is proposed.Specifically, leveraging inherent properties of images such as translation invariance, rotation invariance, scale invariance, and illumination invariance, network attack traffic features and contextual relationships are intuitively represented in NFHP.In addition,an improved RN network model is employed for high-level abstract feature extraction, ensuring that the extracted high-level abstract features maintain the detailed characteristics of the original traffic behavior, regardless of changes in background traffic. Finally,a meta-learning model based on the self-attention mechanism is constructed, achieving the detection of novel APT few-shot network attacks through the empirical generalization of high-level abstract feature representations of known-class network attack behaviors.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can learn high-level abstract features of network attacks across different traffic detail granularities.Comparedwith state-of-the-artmethods,it achieves favorable accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores for the identification of unknown-class network attacks through cross-validation onmultiple datasets. 展开更多

With the successful application and breakthrough of deep learning technology in image segmentation, there has been continuous development in the field of seismic facies interpretation using convolutional neural networks. These intelligent and automated methods significantly reduce manual labor, particularly in the laborious task of manually labeling seismic facies. However, the extensive demand for training data imposes limitations on their wider application. To overcome this challenge,we adopt the UNet architecture as the foundational network structure for seismic facies classification, which has demonstrated effective segmentation results even with small-sample training data.Additionally,we integrate spatial pyramid pooling and dilated convolution modules into the network architecture to enhance the perception of spatial information across a broader range. The seismic facies classification test on the public data from the F3 block verifies the superior performance of our proposed improved network structure in delineating seismic facies boundaries.Comparative analysis against the traditional UNet model reveals that our method achieves more accurate predictive classification results,as evidenced by various evaluation metrics for image segmentation.Obviously, the classification accuracy reaches an impressive 96%.Furthermore,the results of seismic facies classification in the seismic slice dimension provide further confirmation of the superior performance of our proposed method, which accurately defines the range of different seismic facies. This approach holds significant potential for analyzing geological patterns and extracting valuable depositional information. 展开更多

In this paper, we present a simple but powerful ensemble for robust texture classification. The proposed method uses a single type of feature descriptor, i.e. scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT), and inherits the spirit of the spatial pyramid matching model (SPM). In a flexible way of partitioning the original texture images, our approach can produce sufficient informative local features and thereby form a reliable feature pond or train a new class-specific dictionary. To take full advantage of this feature pond, we develop a group-collaboratively representation-based strategy (GCRS) for the final classification. It is solved by the well-known group lasso. But we go beyond of this and propose a locality-constraint method to speed up this, named local constraint-GCRS (LC-GCRS). Experimental results on three public texture datasets demonstrate the proposed approach achieves competitive outcomes and even outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. Particularly, most of methods cannot work well when only a few samples of each category are available for training, but our approach still achieves very high classification accuracy, e.g. an average accuracy of 92.1% for the Brodatz dataset when only one image is used for training, significantly higher than any other methods. 展开更多

Infrared target detection models are more required than ever before to be deployed on embedded platforms, which requires models with less memory consumption and better real-time performance while considering accuracy. To address the above challenges,we propose a modified You Only Look Once(YOLO)algorithm PF-YOLOv4-Tiny.The algorithm incorpo-rates spatial pyramidal pooling(SPP)and squeeze-and-excitation(SE)visual attention modules to enhance the target localization capability. The PANet-based-feature pyramid networks(P-FPN)are proposed to transfer semantic information and location information simultaneously to ameliorate detection accuracy. To lighten the network, the standard convolutions other than the backbone network are replaced with depthwise separable convolutions. In post-processing the images, the soft-non-maximum suppression(soft-NMS)algorithm is employed to subside the missed and false detection problems caused by the occlusion between targets. The accuracy of our model can finally reach 61.75%,while the total Params is only 9.3 M and GFLOPs is 11.At the same time, the inference speed reaches 87 FPS on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti,which can meet the requirements of the infrared target detection algorithm for the embedded deployments. 展开更多

To detect bull’s-eye anomalies in low-frequency seismic inversion models, the study proposed an advanced method using an optimized you only look once version 7(YOLOv7)model.This model is enhanced by integrating advanced modules, including the bidirectional feature pyramid network(BiFPN),weighted intersection-over-union(wise-IoU),efficient channel attention(ECA),and atrous spatial pyramid pooling(ASPP).BiFPN facilitates robust feature extraction by enabling bidirectional information fl ow across network scales, which enhances the ability of the model to capture complex patterns in seismic inversion models.Wise-IoU improves the precision and fineness of reservoir feature localization through its weighted approach to IoU.Meanwhile,ECA optimizes interactions between channels, which promotes eff ective information exchange and enhances the overall response of the model to subtle inversion details.Lastly, the ASPP module strategically addresses spatial dependencies at multiple scales, which further enhances the ability of the model to identify complex reservoir structures.By synergistically integrating these advanced modules, the proposed model not only demonstrates superior performance in detecting bull’s-eye anomalies but also marks a pioneering step in utilizing cutting-edge deep learning technologies to enhance the accuracy and reliability of seismic reservoir prediction in oil and gas exploration. The results meet scientific literature standards and provide new perspectives on methodology, which makes significant contributions to ongoing eff orts to refine accurate and efficient prediction models for oil and gas exploration. 展开更多

Purpose:The purpose of this work is to present an approach for autonomous detection of eye disease in fundus images.Furthermore, this work presents an improved variant of the Tiny YOLOv7 model developed specifically for eye disease detection. The model proposed in this work is a highly useful tool for the development of applications for autonomous detection of eye diseases in fundus images that can help and assist ophthalmologists.Design/methodology/approach:The approach adopted to carry out this work is twofold.Firstly,a richly annotated dataset consisting of eye disease classes, namely, cataract, glaucoma, retinal disease and normal eye,was created.Secondly,an improved variant of the Tiny YOLOv7 model was developed and proposed as EYE-YOLO.The proposed EYE-YOLO model has been developed by integrating multi-spatial pyramid pooling in the feature extraction network and Focal-EIOU loss in the detection network of the Tiny YOLOv7 model. Moreover,at run time, the mosaic augmentation strategy has been utilized with the proposed model to achieve benchmark results.Further, evaluations have been carried out for performance metrics,namely,precision,recall,F1 Score, average precision(AP)and mean average precision(mAP).Findings:The proposed EYE-YOLO achieved 28%higher precision,18%higher recall,24%higher F1 Score and 30.81%higher mAP than the Tiny YOLOv7 model. Moreover,in terms of AP for each class of the employed dataset,it achieved 9.74%higher AP for cataract,27.73%higher AP for glaucoma,72.50%higher AP for retina disease and 13.26%higher AP for normal eye.In comparison to the state-of-the-art Tiny YOLOv5,Tiny YOLOv6 and Tiny YOLOv8 models, the proposed EYE-YOLO achieved 6:23.32%higher mAP.Originality/value:This work addresses the problem of eye disease recognition as a bounding box regression and detection problem.Whereas, the work in the related research is largely based on eye disease classification. The other highlight of this work is to propose a richly annotated dataset for different eye diseases useful for training deep learning-based object detectors. The major highlight of this work lies in the proposal of an improved variant of the Tiny YOLOv7 model focusing on eye disease detection. The proposed modifications in the Tiny YOLOv7 aided the proposed model in achieving better results as compared to the state-of-the-art Tiny YOLOv8 and YOLOv8 Nano. 展开更多

X-ray ptychographic tomography is a nondestructive method for three dimensional(3D)imaging with nanometer-sized resolvable features. The size of the volume that can be imaged is almost arbitrary, limited only by the penetration depth and the available scanning time. Here we present a method that rapidly accelerates the imaging operation over a given volume through acquiring a limited set of data via large angular reduction and compensating for the resulting ill-posedness through deeply learned priors. The proposed 3D reconstruction method“RAPID”relies initially on a subset of the object measured with the nominal number of required illumination angles and treats the reconstructions from the conventional two-step approach as ground truth. It is then trained to reproduce equal fidelity from much fewer angles. After training,it performs with similar fidelity on the hitherto unexamined portions of the object, previously not shown during training, with a limited set of acquisitions. In our experimental demonstration, the nominal number of angles was 349 and the reduced number of angles was 21,resulting in a×140 aggregate speedup over a volume of 4.48×93.18×3.92μm^(3) and with(14 nm)^(3) feature size,i.e.-10^(8) voxels.RAPID’s key distinguishing feature over earlier attempts is the incorporation of atrous spatial pyramid pooling modules into the deep neural network framework in an anisotropic way.We found that adjusting the atrous rate improves reconstruction fidelity because it expands the convolutional kernels’range to match the physics of multi-slice ptychography without significantly increasing the number of parameters. 展开更多
