A New Species of Herpetoreas from Southern Xizang,China,with Comments on the Systematic Position of H.sieboldii(Serpentes:Natricidae)

The natricid snake genus Herpetoreas Günther,1860,is predominantly distributed throughout the southern Himalayan region.Over the past decade,intensive field investigations and taxonomic studies have led to the successful discovery and description of four cryptic species within this group.Nevertheless,data suggest that species diversity remains significantly underestimated and that the systematic position of certain members still requires clarification.Five new specimens initially identified as Herpetoreas were collected during field work on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.Comprehensive molecular phylogenetic analyses and morphological comparisons confirmed that two specimens represented a cryptic species,while the remaining three were identified as the rare H.sieboldii Günther,1860.In addition to the significant genetic divergence,the new species exhibits diagnostic morphological characteristics that distinguish it from its congeners:(1)preoculars 2;(2)postoculars 2;(3)temporals 1+2 or 1+1+2;(4)dorsal scale rows 19-19-17,all keeled except the outer one,dorsal scale reduction from 19 to 17 rows at 109^(th)-111^(th)VS;(5)ventrals 215219;(6)cloacal plate divided;(7)subcaudals 89-90,paired;(8)reduction of tail dorsal scales from 8 to 6 rows at position 35-36 SC,and from 6 to 4 at 74 SC;(9)tail segments with 4 supracaudal scale rows constitutes 0.38%-0.42%of those with 6 rows;(10)a wide dark stripe extending from the posterior eye to the upper corner of the mouth;(11)dorsum brick-brown in life,speckled with short dark stripes;(12)body and tail venter immaculate,each shield decorated with dark spots on the lateral edges.The systematics of H.sieboldii and H.platyceps are also discussed based on molecular data. 展开更多

Advances in optical coherence tomography(OCT)technology allow a clear view of the vitreoretinal interface(VRI).The abnormality of the VRI is one of the common symptoms of high myopia,mainly including posterior vitreous detachment(PVD)and epiretinal membrane(ERM).They can cause severe damage to the structure and function of the retina,leading to permanent vision loss.Therefore,fully automated detection of abnormalities at the VRI is crucial for the management of high myopia.This paper presents a DS-YOLOv7 network aimed at accurately identifying abnormalities,including partial PVD,complete PVD,and ERM from retinal OCT images.Built upon the YOLOv7 network,the proposed model integrates the advanced dynamic snake convolution(DSConv)module to capture the curvilinear characteristics of lesions,and the mixture of attention and convolution(ACMix)module to improve the precision and robustness of feature extraction through effective fusion of self-attention mechanisms and convolution.Moreover,the introduction of the efficient complete intersection-over-union(ECIoU)loss function further enhances the coordinate regression capability of the model.Threefold cross-validation on a dataset with 1973 OCT B-scans from 46 patients shows that the DS-YOLOv7 achieved superior performance in vitreoretinal interface abnormality detection,with mAP@0.5 of 0.714,mAP@0.75 of 0.438,and mAP@0.5:0.95 of 0.424.The proposed model can provide an accurate and efficient diagnostic tool for patients with high myopia. 展开更多

[目的]船舶的实例分割可服务于船舶监测、识别和跟踪等任务,支撑船舶智能航行。然而,受船舶形状尺度多变及环境因素的干扰,已有实例分割方法在船舶轮廓提取上表现不佳。为解决此问题,提出基于曲线递归的Ship Contour方法。[方法]通过改进CenterNet方法提取分层特征,融合Deep Layer Aggregation-60骨干网络,兼顾精度和速度;优化Block结构、引入ECA通道注意力机制增强特征提取的能力,使用Mish激活函数代替ReLU适应深层学习;引入平移不变的轮廓变形方法、Dynamic Matching Loss损失函数加快最终轮廓的提取。[结果]在2300张样本的2023Ship-seg专用数据集上,所提出方法的准确率AP0.5:0.95达到64.0%,召回率AR0.5:0.95达到67.9%,优于主流实例分割算法。[结论]所提方法能有效提升监控与智能航行场景下的视觉处理效果。 展开更多

Descriptive signs in radiology can aid in easier pattern recognition and quicker diagnosis.In spinal cord ischemia,paired anterior-horn T2-hyperintensities have traditionally been known as the“owl’s eyes”or“snake eyes”sign.We discuss how these signs,while visually apt,convey no pathophysiologic context and propose renaming this finding the“snake bite sign”.The image still evokes two punctate marks,yet the metaphor extends to a snake bite(two fang-like dots)rather than two bright foci(eyes)staring back at the viewer.Moreover,besides the sign metaphorically resembling a traumatic puncture of the two fangs,on the occasion of a venomous snake bite occurring elsewhere,additional neurological consequences may occur,paralleling the neurological deficits seen in anterior spinal artery infarction and several mimicking myelopathies,thus further high-lighting the analogy.Such clinically driven terminology may facilitate teaching,enable diagnostic recall,and improve interdisciplinary communication. 展开更多

This study provides an updated checklist of snake species in China,building upon the 2020 checklist and incorporating comprehensive review of relevant literature published from 2020 to December 2024,as well as pre-2020 sources that may have been overlooked.As of the end of 2024,the Chinese Serpents fauna included 19 families,71 genera,and 355 species of snakes.Significant progress has been made in the past five years,including the description of one new family,one new genus,and 60 new species.One subfamily and seven subspecies were elevated to full status,and 12 species were resurrected as valid species.Four genera and 27 species were newly recorded,three genera and four species were synonymized,and one family,four genera,and 12 species were excluded from the documented herpetofauna.This updated list highlights the presence of significant snake diversity and unresolved taxonomic challenges,emphasizing the potential for further discoveries.It also identifies under-researched groups,stressing the urgent need for focused taxonomic and ecological efforts to enhance our understanding of snake biodiversity in China. 展开更多

We editorialized on this study published by Zou et al.Gastrointestinal bleeding is a common clinical symptom,and hemocoagulase is frequently used to treat hemorrhagic conditions.However,studies have shown that hemocoagulase treatment may induce acquired hypofibrinogenemia,further aggravating the bleeding.Zou et al retrospectively analyzed 109 gastrointestinal bleeding cases to explore the hazards underlying hypofibrinogenemia induced by hemocoagulase,and identified higher total dose of hemocoagulase and female sex,as well as low baseline fibrinogen levels as significant hazards.Consequently,clinicians should be aware of both intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors when using hemocoagulase among this patient population,and remain vigilant for the potential development of hemocoagulase-induced hypofibrinogenemia. 展开更多

Sex-biased dispersal,a widespread phenomenon in the animal kingdom,plays a crucial role in shaping genetic structure,optimizing population dynamics,and sustaining reproductive success.Recent research has uncovered considerable diversity and complexity in sex-biased dispersal patterns across species,although studies on snakes with secretive behaviors and low encounter rates remain limited.In this study,sex-biased dispersal in the Asian pitviper(Viridovipera stejnegeri)was investigated using microsatellite markers and a mark-recapture approach.The underlying factors contributing to sexbiased dispersal were also examined,with a focus on genetic structure,kinship patterns,and resource competition.Microsatellite analyses revealed an overall pattern of female-biased dispersal in V.stejnegeri,although certain populations exhibited male-biased dispersal.Notably,these variations in dispersal patterns among populations were not associated with genetic differentiation.The contrasting results between microsatellite data and mark-recapture methods highlighted the limitations of using mark-recapture alone to investigate sex-biased dispersal in snakes.Analyses indicated no significant differences in intrasexual and intersexual resource competition pressures,thus failing to support the resource competition hypothesis.Kinship analysis showed no significant clustering of consanguineous individuals within subpopulations;rather,individuals dispersed into neighboring subpopulations through sex-biased dispersal,effectively reducing the risk of inbreeding and supporting the inbreeding avoidance hypothesis.However,further investigation is needed to determine whether the local mate competition hypothesis applies.Overall,this study provides valuable insights into methodological approaches and data interpretation relevant to biodiversity conservation and management strategies. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Bothrops envenomation is a common medical emergency in tropical areas and is characterized by local and systemic complications,such as edema,coagulopathy,and tissue necrosis.Cardiovascular manifestations are rare and poorly documented,contributing to the complexity of its clinical management.CASE SUMMARY We described a rare cardiac complication in a 65-year-old female patient,who initially presented with mild Bothrops envenomation.She experienced localized edema and erythema but with a lack of systemic symptoms.During the evaluation we detected asymptomatic sinus bradycardia and QTc prolongation(523 milliseconds)that progressed to severe arrhythmias that required implantation of a permanent pacemaker.Management included the administration of polyvalent antiphonic serum,fresh frozen plasma transfusions,and intensive care unit monitoring.Imaging and laboratory studies ruled out ischemic,metabolic,or electrolytic etiologies for the cardiac alterations.The patient recovered favorably after the intervention and was discharged without further complications.CONCLUSION This case underscored the need for cardiac monitoring after snakebite envenomation as well as further research on venom-induced cardiotoxic mechanisms. 展开更多

The global incidence of Alzheimer's Disease(AD)is on a swift rise.The Electroencephalogram(EEG)signals is an effective tool for the identification of AD and its initial Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI)stage using machine learning models.Analysis of AD using EEG involves multi-channel analysis.However,the use of multiple channels may impact the classification performance due to data redundancy and complexity.In this work,a hybrid EEG channel selection is proposed using a combination of Reptile Search Algorithm and Snake Optimizer(RSO)for AD and MCI detection based on decomposition methods.Empirical Mode Decomposition(EMD),Low-Complexity Orthogonal Wavelet Filter Banks(LCOWFB),Variational Mode Decomposition,and discrete-wavelet transform decomposition techniques have been employed for subbands-based EEG analysis.We extracted thirty-four features from each subband of EEG signals.Finally,a hybrid RSO optimizer is compared with five individual metaheuristic algorithms for effective channel selection.The effectiveness of this model is assessed by two publicly accessible AD EEG datasets.An accuracy of 99.22% was achieved for binary classification from RSO with EMD using 4(out of 16)EEG channels.Moreover,the RSO with LCOWFBs obtained 89.68%the average accuracy for three-class classification using 7(out of 19)channels.The performance reveals that RSO performs better than individual Metaheuristic algorithms with 60%fewer channels and improved accuracy of 4%than existing AD detection techniques. 展开更多

针对轮廓复杂多变、细节信息丰富等多因素,导致变电建筑重建效果不佳的问题,提出基于轮廓拼接的变电建筑数字三维重建算法。基于改进Snake模型提取变电建筑目标轮廓,为后续的三维重建提供关键轮廓信息;基于获取的二维轮廓信息,利用运动... 针对轮廓复杂多变、细节信息丰富等多因素,导致变电建筑重建效果不佳的问题,提出基于轮廓拼接的变电建筑数字三维重建算法。基于改进Snake模型提取变电建筑目标轮廓,为后续的三维重建提供关键轮廓信息;基于获取的二维轮廓信息,利用运动恢复结构(Structure from Motion,SfM)完成变电建筑的三维轮廓重建;通过Jaccard距离和最近点迭代(ICP)算法将多个轮廓碎片精确拼接为完整的变电建筑三维轮廓,并使用附加三维线约束的网格优化算法对所构建三维轮廓实行优化,完成最终的变电建筑数字三维重建。实验结果表明:所提方法在变电建筑轮廓及三维重建中展现出高精度、细节保留良好且整体连贯性佳的优势。 展开更多
