This study examines the design provisions of the Chinese GB 50011-2010 code for seismic design of buildings for the special boundary elements of T-shaped reinforced concrete walls and proposes an improved design method. Comparison of the design provisions of the GB 50011-2010 code and those of the American code ACI 318-14 indicates a possible deficiency in the T-shaped wall design provisions in GB 50011-2010. A case study of a typical T-shaped wall designed in accordance with GB 50011-2010 also indicates the insufficient extent of the boundary element at the non-flange end and overly conservative design of the flange end boundary element. Improved designs for special boundary elements ofT-shaped walls are developed using a displacement-based method. The proposed design formulas produce a longer boundary element at the non-flange end and a shorter boundary element at the flange end, relative to those of the GB 50011-2010 provisions. Extensive numerical analysis indicates that T-shaped walls designed using the proposed formulas develop inelastic drift of 0.01 for both cases of the flange in compression and in tension. 展开更多

Comparing and analyzing different influence of working factors on control characteristic, the shape control characteristic of CVCplus roll system in its whole work time is studied, and the cause is analyzed and the difference of the roll gap curve and crown adjustable area in early and latter work time is compared. It is significant to numerically investigate thermo-mechanical behaviors of shape memory alloy(SMA)structures undergoing large and uneven deformation for they are used in many engineering fields to meet special requirements To solve the problems of convergence in the numerical simulation on thermo-mechanical behaviors of SMA structures by universal finite element software.This work suppose a finite element method to simulate the super-elasticity and shape memory effect in the SMA structure undergoing large and uneven deformation.Two scalars,named by phase-transition modulus and equivalent stiffness,are defined to make it easy to establish and implement the finite element method for a SMA structure.An incremental constitutive equation is developed to formulate the relationship of stress,strain and temperature in a SMA material based on phase-transition modulus and equivalent stiffness.A phase-transition modulus equation is derived to describe the relationship of phase-transition modulus,stress and temperature in a SMA material during the processes of martensitic phase transition and martensitic inverse phase transition.A finite element equation is established to express the incremental relationship of nodal displacement,external force and temperature change in a finite element discrete structure of SMA.The incremental constitutive equation,phase-transition modulus equation and finite element equation compose the supposed finite element method which simulate the thermo-mechanical behaviors of a SMA structure.Two SMA structures,which undergo large and uneven deformation,are numerically simulated by the supposed finite element method.Results of numerical simulation show that the supposed finite element method can effectively simulate the super-elasticity and shape memory effect of a SMA structure undergoing large and uneven deformation,and is suitable to act as an effective computational tool for the wide applications based on the SMA materials. 展开更多

Based on the principle of discrete element method (DEM), a 2D slot model of a COREX melter gasifier was established to analyze the influence of cohesive zone shape on solid flow, including mass distribution, velocity distribution, normal force distribution and porosity distribution at a microscopic level. The results show that the co- hesive zone shape almost does not affect the particle movement in the upper shaft and deadman shape. The particles in the lower central bottom experience large normal force to support the particles above them, while particles around the raceway and in the fast flow zone exhibit weak force network. The porosity distribution was also examined under three kinds of cohesive zones. Like the velocity distribution, the whole packed bed can be divided into four main re- gions. With the increase of cohesive zone position, the low porosity region located in the root of cohesive zone increa- ses. And the porosity distribution becomes asymmetric in the case of biased cohesive zone. 展开更多

The present work intends to investigate dynamic behaviour of draft gear using finite element method. The longitudinal force that the draft gear absorbs usually leads to the failure of its components, especially, the load bearing draft pads. Dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad and a draft gear is determined and characterized with exciting frequen- cies and corresponding mode shapes. The effect of compressive prestress load on the dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad is also determined as the draft pads in assembled state are under constant axial compressive force in the draft gear. The vibration characteristics of individual draft pad are compared with draft pads that are part of draft gear. The modal analysis gives us a basis for subjecting a draft pad to higher frequency loading for determining its fatigue behaviour. 展开更多

To control the strip shape effectively, it is important to understand the relationship between the behavior of the shape actuator and the variation of the strip shape. A numerical model based on the contact element method was proposed for the prediction of strip shape. In this numerical model, the re- lationships between the actuating forces, the roll deflections, the thickness profiles of the entry and exit sides, and the strip shape were considered. The proposed numerical model for strip shape prediction was evaluated by computer simulation and experiment with respect to various AS-U roll and first intermediate roll positions. 展开更多

In counter-rotating electrochemical machining (CRECM), a revolving cathode tool with hollow windows of various shapes is used to fabricate convex structures on a revolving part. During this process, the anode workpiece and the cathode tool rotate relative to each other at the same rotation speed. In contrast to the conventional schemes of ECM machining with linear motion of a block tool electrode, this scheme of ECM is unique, and has not been adequately studied yet. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate the anode shaping process during CRECM, and the simulation process which involves a meshing model, a moving boundary, and a simulation algorithm is described. The simulated anode profiles of the convex structure at different processing times show that the CRECM process can be used to fabricate convex structures of various shapes with different heights. Besides, the variation of the inter-electrode gap indicates that this process can also reach a relative equilibrium state like that in conventional ECM. A rectangular convex and a circular convex are successfully fabricated on revolving parts. The experimental results indicate relatively good agreement with the simulation results. The proposed simulation process is valid for convex shaping prediction and feasibility studies as well. 展开更多

The simulated results indicate that the influence of the shifting of CVC work roll on shape and crown is very large, and the shifting of work roll can be used to preset shape and crown. The influence of the bending force of work roll on shape and crown is smaller, and it is suitable to use the bending force of work roll for shape and crown adjustment on line. With the increase of strip width, the exit crown of strip increases firstly and decreases then, and the roll gap becomes smoother increasingly. Meanwhile, the transverse difference of front tension stress decreases firstly and increases then. 展开更多

The theory of metal plastic deformation is an important part of the strip shape control theories. In order to control the shape and gauge accurately during cold thin strip rolling, the mechanism of the metal lateral flow must be revealed clearly. Therefore, the lateral displacement of thin strip was studied by the grid method. Those grids with a line thickness of 10 μm and clear boundaries were successfully manufactured on the strip surface using lithography. Then, the effects of reduction, front and back tension, and taper angle of the first intermediate roll on the metal lateral flow were studied. The strip shape was calculated with and without considering the lateral displacement; furthermore, the calculations were compared with the measured results. The results show that the calculations with considering the lateral displacement are closer to the measured results. In addition, the comparison of finite element analysis results with the experimental results indicates that the test method was reliable. 展开更多

In this paper,size and shape optimization problem of a machine gun system is addressed with an efficient hybrid method,in which a novel and flexible mesh morphing technique is employed to achieve fast parameterization and modification of complexity structure without going back to CAD for reconstruction of geometric models or to finite element analysis( FEA) for remodeling. Design of experiments( DOE) and response surface method( RSM) are applied to approximate the constitutive parameters of a machine gun system based on experimental tests. Further FEA,secondary development technique and genetic algorithm( GA) are introduced to find all the optimal solutions in one go and the optimal design of the demonstrated machine gun system is obtained. Results of the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic analysis and exterior ballistics calculation validate the proposed methodology,which is relatively time-saving,reliable and has the potential to solve similar problems. 展开更多

Based on the wave radiation and diffraction theory, this paper investigates a new type breakwater with upper arcshaped plate by using the boundary element method(BEM). By comparing with other three designs of plate type breakwater(lower arc-shaped plate, single horizontal plate and double horizontal plate), this new type breakwater has been proved more effective. The wave exiting force, transmission and reflection coefficients are analyzed and discussed. In order to reveal the wave elimination mechanism of this type of breakwater, the velocity field around the breakwater is obtained. It is shown that:(1) The sway exciting force is minimal.(2) When the ratio of the submergence and wave amplitude is 0.05, the wave elimination effect will increase by 50% compared with other three types of breakwater.(3) The obvious backflow is found above the plate in the velocity field analysis. 展开更多

Effect of Nose Shape on Semi-Armor-Piercing Warhead Penetration Performance

Besides, the influence of impact angle on penetration performance of three different nose shape projectiles is researched. The analysis results indicate that the nose shape has a significant influence on semi-armor-piercing warhead penetration performance.The effect of impact angle on the three kinds of projectiles' residual kinetic energy and deflection is different. The finite element modeling of three dimensional structures is important for researchers especially in the field of antennas and other domains of electromagnetic waves. This paper presents a finite element calculations and numerical analysis for the microstrip patch antennas. In this paper, two different designs have been modelled and analyzed and both designs are based on the rectangular patches. The feeding point of one design is inside the patch while the other design contains feeding point outside the patch is T shaped. The computational analysis showed some interesting results for radiation pattern and far field domain. For these designs, the characteristic impedance taken is 50 Ω and the operating frequency domain is 1.4 to 1.7 GHz. The microstrip patch antennas are encapsulated in the inert spherical atmosphere of 20 mm thickness containing air inside it. 展开更多

The eight-node and forty-DOF piezoelectric shell element were applied to shape control of a flat shell structure. By the direct and converse effects, a distributed piezoelectric sensor layer was used to monitor the shape deformation and a distributed actuator layer was used to suppresse the deflection. A finite element model was for static response of laminated shell with piezoelectric sensors/actuators was derived. The model was verified by calculating piezoelectric polymeric PVDF bimorph beam. The results are in good agreement with those obtained by theoretical analysis of Tzou and Hwang . A case study of the static shape control of a flat shell structure is presented. 展开更多

In this paper, we analyze the two-dimensional Boat-shaped structure based on the finite element method. We calculated its energy band structure and vibration transmission properties and found that the structure has band gaps at both high and low frequencies. Compared with common traditional two- dimensional phononic crystals, the boat-shaped phononic crystal has the advantage of larger bandgap design and modulation parameter space due to their structural complexity. In order to obtain better bandgap characteristics, we studied the influence of four key parameters, such as the rod length and the angle between the rods, on the bandgap. The results show that: for low frequency band gaps, the width of the band gap can be effectively changed by changing the size of the angle between the rods while rod length greatly affects the bandgap position;for high band gaps, the length of rods has a large effect on the band gap position. These laws have guiding significance for the bandgap regulation of boat-shaped phononic crystal. 展开更多

Influences of fine pitch solder joint shape parameters on fatigue life under thermal cycle

The solder joint reliability of a 0.5mm lead pitch, 240-pin quad flat package(QFP) was studied by nonlinear finite element analysis(FEA). The stress/strain distributions within the solder joints and the maximum plastic strain range of the solder joints were determined. Based on the calculated maximum plastic strain range the thermal fatigue life of the solder joints was calculated using Coffin-Manson equation. The influences of shape parameters including volume of solder joint, pad size and stand-off on the thermal fatigue life of the solder joints were also studied. The results show that the stress and strain distribution in the solder joint are not uniform; the interface between the lead and the solder joint is the high stress and strain region; the maximum stress and stain occur at the topmost point where the solder joint intersects with the inner side of the lead. The solder joint cracks should occur firstly at this point and propagate along the interface between the solder and the lead. The solder joint with the pad size of 1.25mm×0.35mm, the stand-off of 0.02mm and the solder volume of 0.026mm^3 has longer fatigue life than that of any others. These optimal parameters have been applied in practice to assemble the 240-pin, 0.5mm pitch QFP. 展开更多
