Validation and Reliability Testing of the Yonsei Lifestyle Profile for Assessing Multifaceted Health Lifestyles

Background:In this study,we aimed to validate and test the reliability of the Yonsei lifestyle profile(YLP)in assessing multifaceted health lifestyle levels in a study population from the United States.Methods:The YLP-English version and health-promoting lifestyle profile II were administered to 100 individuals living in the United States.Concurrent validity was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient,and discriminant validity was examined by comparing sex and age differences through t-tests and multiple variance analysis.Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach'sαfor each sub-factor.Results:The YLP-English Version demonstrated concurrent validity with the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II,showing consistent correlations for the total score(0.3,p<0.01)and frequency sub-factors(0.25-0.69,p<0.01).Among the satisfaction sub-factors,only nutrition showed a weak negative correlation(-0.19,p<0.01);all others were nonsignificant.Discriminant validity revealed no significant sex differences,but physical activity frequency varied across age groups.Internal consistency was high(Cronbach'sα=0.80-0.86).Conclusion:In this study,we validated the YLP-English version as a reliable instrument for assessing health-related lifestyle behaviors.The YLP uniquely captures both lifestyle frequency and satisfaction,offering a comprehensive perspective on health behaviors.Although this tool is currently most applicable in population-level studies,future research should establish clinical thresholds to enhance its utility in individualized health assessments and interventions. 展开更多

This paper investigates the reliability of internal marine combustion engines using an integrated approach that combines Fault Tree Analysis(FTA)and Bayesian Networks(BN).FTA provides a structured,top-down method for identifying critical failure modes and their root causes,while BN introduces flexibility in probabilistic reasoning,enabling dynamic updates based on new evidence.This dual methodology overcomes the limitations of static FTA models,offering a comprehensive framework for system reliability analysis.Critical failures,including External Leakage(ELU),Failure to Start(FTS),and Overheating(OHE),were identified as key risks.By incorporating redundancy into high-risk components such as pumps and batteries,the likelihood of these failures was significantly reduced.For instance,redundant pumps reduced the probability of ELU by 31.88%,while additional batteries decreased the occurrence of FTS by 36.45%.The results underscore the practical benefits of combining FTA and BN for enhancing system reliability,particularly in maritime applications where operational safety and efficiency are critical.This research provides valuable insights for maintenance planning and highlights the importance of redundancy in critical systems,especially as the industry transitions toward more autonomous vessels. 展开更多

To study the durability of concrete in harsh environments in Northwest China,concrete was prepared with various durability-improving materials such as concrete anti-erosion inhibitor(SBT-TIA),acrylate polymer(AP),super absorbent resin(SAP).The erosion mode and internal deterioration mechanism under salt freeze-thaw cycle and dry-wet cycle were explored.The results show that the addition of enhancing materials can effectively improve the resistance of concrete to salt freezing and sulfate erosion:the relevant indexes of concrete added with X-AP and T-AP are improved after salt freeze-thaw cycles;concrete added with SBTTIA shows optimal sulfate corrosion resistance;and concrete added with AP displays the best resistance to salt freezing.Microanalysis shows that the increase in the number of cycles decreases the generation of internal hydration products and defects in concrete mixed with enhancing materials and improves the related indexes.Based on the Wiener model analysis,the reliability of concrete with different lithologies and enhancing materials is improved,which may provide a reference for the application of manufactured sand concrete and enhancing materials in Northwest China,especially for the study of the improvement effects and mechanism of enhancing materials on the performance of concrete. 展开更多

Joining dissimilar materials encounters significant engineering challenges due to the contrast in material properties that makes conventional welding not feasible.Magnetic Pulse Welding(MPW)offers a solidstate joining technique that overcomes these issues by using impact to create strong bonds without melting the substrate materials.This study investigates the weldability of aluminum alloy Al-5754 with Al-7075 and MARS 380 steel,used in armouring solutions of defense systems,by the use of MPW.In this work,weldability windows are investigated by varying standoff distances between the coating material and its substrate(0.25-4.5 mm)and discharge energies(5-13 kJ)with both O-shape and U-shape inductors.Mechanical strength of the welded joints were assessed through single lap shear tests,identifying optimal welding parameters.Then,the velocity profiles of the flyer plates were measured using heterodyne velocimetry to understand the dynamics of the impact.Then,substructures assembled with the optimal welding conditions were subjected to ballistic testing using 7.62 mm×51 mm NATO and 9 mm×19 mm Parabellum munitions to evaluate the resilience of the welds under ballistic impact.The outcomes demonstrate that MPW effectively joins Al-5754 with both Al-7075 and MARS 380,producing robust welds capable of withstanding ballistic impacts under certain conditions.This research advances the application of MPW in lightweight ballistic protection of defense systems,contributing to the development of more resilient and lighter protective structures. 展开更多

The software reliability testing has many disadvantages in practice, such as high complexity of constructing operational profiles and poor fault detection efficiency. Oppositely, the directed testing with a high fault detection rate is incapable of estimating reliability quantificationally. To solve this problem, a hybrid testing combining reliability and directed testing as well as a reliability model based on the order statistic (OS) model were presented by Mitchell. An extended research on Mitchell's work is proposed. Firstly, the most proper distribution of the fault's failure rate which tends to be Iognormal is suggested, and a detailed form of the OS model based on Iognormal and the corresponding parameter estimation method are proposed, respectively. Secondly, an im- plementing framework for the hybrid testing is proposed. Finally, the hybrid testing and the OS model are applied on a real website system. The experimental results indicate: the hybrid testing has more efficient fault detection power and lower testing cost than the reliability testing; compared with three traditional software reliabil ity growth models, the OS model has a best or pretty estimation or prediction power for each data set; and for the failure data set collected from hybrid testing, the OS model also achieves an ac- ceptable estimation result. 展开更多

On the basis of analyzing similarities and differences of the testing phase and the operational phase, using the concept of operational reliability and the testing reliability, different forms of the comparison between the operational failure ratio and the predicted testing failure ratio were conducted, and the mathematical discussion and analysis were performed in detail. Finally, software optimal release was studied using software failure data. The results show that two kinds of conclusions can be derived by applying this method, one conclusion is to continue testing to meet the required reliability level of users, and the other is that testing stops when the required operational reliability is met, thus the testing cost can be reduced. 展开更多

Seventy-one subjects with Par... The 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) has been tested in many languages, but not in Chinese mainland. We aimed to assess the Chinese (mainland) version of the PDQ-39. Seventy-one subjects with Parkinson's disease (PD) completed the PDQ-39 and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). All subjects were retested with the PDQ-39 a week later. The united Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS) and the Hoehn and Yahr (H & Y) scale were also used to evaluate the subjects. Reliability was assessed by Cron- bach's α and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Validity was examined in terms of agreement with SF-36, UPDRS, and H & Y scales. The Chinese (mainland) version of the PDQ-39 demonstrated acceptable reliability (Cronbach's α: 0.84-0.88; ICC: 0.56-0.82). The item-total correlations (0.33-0.88) and scaling success rates (77.56%) indicated satisfactory convergent and discriminant validity of the PDQ-39 items. The correlations between related constructs of the PDQ-39 and UPDRS (r=0.44-0.68) and between those of the PDQ-39 and SF-36 (r=(-0.46)-(-0.69)) were all statistically significant (P<0.01). Except for stigma, cognitions, and bodily discomfort, all other dimensions of the PDQ-39 significantly discriminated patients at different H & Y stages indicated by the H & Y scale. Although our observations indicate that some problematic subscales of this version of the PDQ-39 could be improved upon, this study suggests acceptable reliability and validity of the Chinese (mainland) version of the PDQ-39. 展开更多

In recent decades,many software reliability growth models(SRGMs) have been proposed for the engineers and testers in measuring the software reliability precisely.Most of them is established based on the non-homogeneous Poisson process(NHPP),and it is proved that the prediction accuracy of such models could be improved by adding the describing of characterization of testing effort.However,some research work indicates that the fault detection rate(FDR) is another key factor affects final software quality.Most early NHPPbased models deal with the FDR as constant or piecewise function,which does not fit the different testing stages well.Thus,this paper first incorporates a multivariate function of FDR,which is bathtub-shaped,into the NHPP-based SRGMs considering testing effort in order to further improve performance.A new model framework is proposed,and a stepwise method is used to apply the framework with real data sets to find the optimal model.Experimental studies show that the obtained new model can provide better performance of fitting and prediction compared with other traditional SRGMs. 展开更多

Testing-effort(TE) and imperfect debugging(ID) in the reliability modeling process may further improve the fitting and prediction results of software reliability growth models(SRGMs). For describing the S-shaped varying trend of TE increasing rate more accurately, first, two S-shaped testing-effort functions(TEFs), i.e.,delayed S-shaped TEF(DS-TEF) and inflected S-shaped TEF(IS-TEF), are proposed. Then these two TEFs are incorporated into various types(exponential-type, delayed S-shaped and inflected S-shaped) of non-homogeneous Poisson process(NHPP)SRGMs with two forms of ID respectively for obtaining a series of new NHPP SRGMs which consider S-shaped TEFs as well as ID. Finally these new SRGMs and several comparison NHPP SRGMs are applied into four real failure data-sets respectively for investigating the fitting and prediction power of these new SRGMs.The experimental results show that:(i) the proposed IS-TEF is more suitable and flexible for describing the consumption of TE than the previous TEFs;(ii) incorporating TEFs into the inflected S-shaped NHPP SRGM may be more effective and appropriate compared with the exponential-type and the delayed S-shaped NHPP SRGMs;(iii) the inflected S-shaped NHPP SRGM considering both IS-TEF and ID yields the most accurate fitting and prediction results than the other comparison NHPP SRGMs. 展开更多

This study examines the construct validity and reliability of the Malay language questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis (QUID) in women. Study Design: Random sampling design was used in this cross-sectional survey. Materials and Methods: The Americanized English language questionnaire was translated to the Malay language and distributed to community-dwelling Malaysian women living in various locations in Selangor. The construct validity was tested using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The reliability was determined using Cronbach’s α. Results: A total of 111 women completed the Malay language QUID in this pilot study. The Keiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy of 0.675 and Bartlett’s test of sphericity (χ2 = 284.633, df = 15, p = 0.001) indicated that the EFA was possible. The total variance and the scree plot identified two factors above the initial eigenvalue of 1 while a third factor was just below it (0.758). The CFA output showed a recursive model with the solution being not admissible because two unobserved and exogenous variables had negative variance estimates. The following values of absolute fit indices showed an acceptable level of fit: 1) Chi-square test with χ2 = 4.997, df = 5, p = 0.416, indicated a smaller difference between the expected and observed covariance matrices;2) GFI = 0.986, AGFI = 0.939, RMR = 0.021 and CMIN/DF = 1.0 indicated acceptable level of fit;3) The baseline comparison values of NFI = 0.983 and CFI = 1.0 also indicated a good fit to the data;4) RMSEA = 0.000 was considered a perfect fit indicating that the hypothesized model was a good fit to the observed data. Under the hypothesis of “close fit”, the probability of getting a sample RMSEA as large as 0.000 was 0.567. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of 0.823 indicated good reliability. Conclusion: The Malay language QUID is a valid and reliable instrument for diagnosing female urinary incontinence in the Malaysian population. 展开更多

Based on traditional reliability enhancement testing method, a new kind of reliability enhancement testing simulation method of ramming system is put forward firstly. In CAD software Pro/E and dynamic simulation software ADAMS, the virtual prototype of ramming system is established. In EASY5 software, the corresponding hydraulic system and control system models are built. The reliability enhancement testing virtual environment of ramming system is developed using the mechanical-electrical-hydraulic co-simulation technology. Based on the load spectra provided by virtual prototype, and the stress distribution provided by finite element analysis and material's S-N curve(S is fatigue strength, N is fatigue life), a model of fatigue enhancement coefficient is established through the failure mechanism analysis. The simulation processes and simulation results show the feasibility of reliability enhancement testing based on virtual prototype, and provide sufficient theory reference for structure improvement and optimization of ramming system. 展开更多

This paper develops a new method, named E-Bayesian estimation method, to estimate the reliability parameters. The E-Bayesian estimation method of the reliability are derived for the zero-failure data from the product with Binomial distribution. Firstly, for the product reliability, the definitions of E-Bayesian estimation were given, and on the base, expressions of the E-Bayesian estimation and hierarchical Bayesian estimation of the products reliability was given. Secondly, discuss properties of the E-Bayesian estimation. Finally, the new method is applied to a real zero-failure data set, and as can be seen, it is both efficient and easy to operate. 展开更多

Software Reliability Growth Model for Imperfect Debugging Process Considering Testing-Effort and Testing Coverage

Because of the inevitable debugging lag,imperfect debugging process is used to replace perfect debugging process in the analysis of software reliability growth model.Considering neither testing-effort nor testing coverage can describe software reliability for imperfect debugging completely,by hybridizing testing-effort with testing coverage under imperfect debugging,this paper proposes a new model named GMW-LO-ID.Under the assumption that the number of faults is proportional to the current number of detected faults,this model combines generalized modified Weibull(GMW)testing-effort function with logistic(LO)testing coverage function,and inherits GMW's amazing flexibility and LO's high fitting precision.Furthermore,the fitting accuracy and predictive power are verified by two series of experiments and we can draw a conclusion that our model fits the actual failure data better and predicts the software future behavior better than other ten traditional models,which only consider one or two points of testing-effort,testing coverage and imperfect debugging. 展开更多
