Learning control of fermentation process with an improved DHP algorithm

Control of the fed-batch ethanol fermentation processes to produce maximum product ethanol is one of the key issues in the bioreactor system.However,ethanol fermentation processes exhibit complex behavior and nonlinear dynamics with respect to the cell mass,substrate,feed-rate,etc.An improved dual heuristic programming algorithm based on the least squares temporal difference with gradient correction(LSTDC) algorithm(LSTDC-DHP) is proposed to solve the learning control problem of a fed-batch ethanol fermentation process.As a new algorithm of adaptive critic designs,LSTDC-DHP is used to realize online learning control of chemical dynamical plants,where LSTDC is commonly employed to approximate the value functions.Application of the LSTDC-DHP algorithm to ethanol fermentation process can realize efficient online learning control in continuous spaces.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of LSTDC-DHP,and show that LSTDC-DHP can obtain the near-optimal feed rate trajectory faster than other-based algorithms. 展开更多

Rectisol process is more efficient in comparison with other physical or chemical absorption methods for gas purification. To implement a real time simulation of Rectisol process, thermodynamic model and simulation strategy are needed. In this paper, a method of modified statistical associated fluid theory with perturbation theory is used to predict thermodynamic behavior of process. As Rectisol process is a highly heat-integrated process with many loops, a method of equation oriented strategy, sequential quadratic programming, is used as the solver and the process converges perfectly. In this paper, a fabrication scheduling problem concerning the production of components at a single manufacturing facility was studied, in which the manufactured components are subsequently assembled into a finite number of end products. Each product was assumed to comprise a common component to all jobs and a unique component to itself. Common operations were processed in batches and each batch required a setup time. A product is completed when both its two operations have been processed and are available. The optimality criterion considered was the minimization of weighted flow time. For this scheduling problem, the optimal schedules were described in a weignted shortest processing time first (WSPT) order and two algorithms were constructed corresponding to the batch availability and item availability, respectively. 展开更多

This study presents a parallel version of the string matching algorithms research tool(SMART)library,implemented on NVIDIA’s compute unified device architecture(CUDA)platform,and uses general-purpose computing on graphics processing unit(GPGPU)programming concepts to enhance performance and gain insight into the parallel versions of these algorithms.We have developed the CUDA-enhanced SMART(CUSMART)library,which incorporates parallelized iterations of 64 string matching algorithms,leveraging the CUDA application programming interface.The performance of these algorithms has been assessed across various scenarios to ensure a comprehensive and impartial comparison,allowing for the identification of their strengths and weaknesses in specific application contexts.We have explored and established optimization techniques to gauge their influence on the performance of these algorithms.The results of this study highlight the potential of GPGPU computing in string matching applications through the scalability of algorithms,suggesting significant performance improvements.Furthermore,we have identified the best and worst performing algorithms in various scenarios. 展开更多

Fast OBJ file importing and parsing in CUDA 被引量:2

Alias – Wavefront OBJ meshes are a common text file type for transferring 3D mesh data between applications made by different vendors.However, as the mesh complexity gets higher and denser, the files become larger and slower to import.This paper explores the use of GPUs to accelerate the importing and parsing of OBJ files by studying file read-time, runtime, and load resistance. We propose a new method of reading and parsing that circumvents GPU architecture limitations and improves performance, seeing the new GPU method outperforms CPU methods with a 6×– 8× speedup. When running on a heavily loaded system, the new method only received an 80% performance hit, compared to the160% that the CPU methods received. The loaded GPU speedup compared to unloaded CPU methods was3.5×, and, when compared to loaded CPU methods,8×. These results demonstrate that the time is right for further research into the use of data-parallel GPU acceleration beyond that of computer graphics and high performance computing. 展开更多

Radiotherapy exerts its effects on tumor cells directly by damaging their DNA and consequently activating a programmed cell death process(apoptosis)and indirectly by stimulating an immune response towards tumor antigens.Tumor cells are known to activate several mechanisms to preserve their survival and limit the host response,including resistance to apoptosis and immune evasion.Recently,Han et al.1 published that to limit the induction of the host immune response,tumor cells can exploit the intrinsic apoptosis program rather than block it,an apparent paradox.When exposed to the caspase inhibitor emricasan,which blocks this immune-evasion mechanism,tumor cells“adopt”countermeasures by upregulating the expression of PD-L1,which negatively controls immune responses.To eliminate this additional tumor adaptive reaction and protect the animals from tumor growth,the authors used a combination of radiation,caspase inhibition,and immune checkpoint inhibitor(anti-PD-L1 antibody)treatment. 展开更多
