The safe and efficient development of geothermal energy is a key driver of the energy revolution and environmental governance in this century. To understand the effect of water driving pressure on drilling safety and hydraulic fracturing efficiency during the development of geothermal energy under varying reservoir temperatures, dynamic compression tests were conducted on granite samples subjected to thermal treatment(25,100,200,300,400 and 600℃)and subsequent forced water absorption(0,4,8,12 MPa)using a split Hopkinson pressure bar system. The results indicate that a higher water driving pressure exacerbates the deterioration of dynamic compressive strength with increasing temperature, while it enhances the rate dependence of dynamic compressive strength, except at 600℃.The dynamic increase factor(DIF)of dynamic compressive strength vs.strain rate is determined by both temperature and water driving pressure.A prediction model for the deterioration of dynamic compressive strength considering reservoir temperature and water driving pressure is proposed for geothermal reservoirs. While the splitting failure of samples remains unchanged, crack density increases with increasing temperature and water driving pressure, exhibiting multiscale failure cracks parallel to the loading direction. The structure effective strength model, the wing-crack propagation model, the effect of pore water pressure on dynamic stress intensity factor, and the dynamic response of forced absorbed water can collectively reveal the response mechanisms of dynamic strength.Based on the experimental findings, implications for safe and productive geothermal energy development are discussed, with particular attention to the effect of drilling fluid leakage on wellbore stability and the impact of residual fracturing fluid after backflow on repeated fracturing. This study has important reference value for understanding dynamic wellbore stability under drilling disturbance loads and for the design of repeated dynamic hydraulic fracturing schemes in geothermal energy development. 展开更多

Drilling and blasting tunneling is a cyclic process in which tunnel rock undergoes repeated blast loading, affecting its dynamic characteristics, energy evolution, and damage progression. To explore the dynamic mechanical properties and damage mechanisms of carbonaceous slate under cyclic impact loads of varying intensities, cyclic dynamic tests are conducted using a triaxial split Hopkinson pressure bar. This study analyzes the stress-strain relationship, energy damage evolution, and macro-to-micro failure characteristics. The results show that peak stress and strain are significantly influenced by impact intensity and the number of impacts. The initial dynamic stress is positively correlated with the impact intensity, but with more impact, the dynamic stress decreases while the peak strain increases.Energy evolution follows a pattern of"slow growthfluctuating growthrapid growth,"with the crack initiation stress and its proportion decreasing.CT and SEM analyses reveal that as the impact intensity increases, failure becomes more chaotic, the fracture volume increases, and the fracture mode shifts from interlayer and intergranular to through-layer and trans-granular fractures. These findings provide an experimental basis for soft rock tunnel stability analysis. 展开更多

Railway noise barriers are an essential piece of infrastructure for reducing noise propagation. However, these barriers experience aerodynamic loads generated by high-speed trains, leading to dynamic effects that may compromise their fatigue capacity. The most common structural design for railway noise barriers consists of vertical configurations of posts and panels. However, there have been few dynamic analyses of steel post/wood panel noise barriers under train-induced aerodynamic loads. This study used dynamic finite element analysis to assess the dynamic behavior of such noise barriers.Analysis of a 40-m-long noise barrier model and a triangular simplified load model, the latter of which effectively represented the detailed aerodynamic load, were first used to establish the model and input of the moving load during dynamic simulation. Then, the effects of different parameters on the dynamic response of the noise barrier were evaluated, including the damping ratio, the profile of the steel post, the span length of the panel, the barrier height, and the train speed.Gray relational analysis indicated that barrier height exhibited the highest correlations with the dynamic responses, followed by train speed, post profile, span length, and damping ratio.A reduction in the natural frequency and an increase in the train speed result in a higher peak response and more pronounced fluctuations between the nose and tail waves. The dynamic amplification factor(DAF)was found to be related to both the natural frequency and train speed.A model was proposed showing that the DAF significantly increases as the square of the natural frequency decreases and the cube of the train speed rises. 展开更多

This paper prepared a novel as-cast W-Zr-Ti metallic ESM using high-frequency vacuum induction melting technique. The above ESM performs a typical elastic-brittle material feature and strain rate strengthening behavior. The specimens exhibit violent chemical reaction during the fracture process under the impact loading, and the size distribution of their residual debris follows Rosin-Rammler model. The dynamic fracture toughness is obtained by the fitting of debris length scale, approximately 1.87 MPa·m~(1/2).Microstructure observation on residual debris indicates that the failure process is determined by primary crack propagation under quasi-static compression, while it is affected by multiple cracks propagation in both particle and matrix in the case of dynamic impact.Impact test demonstrates that the novel energetic fragment performs brilliant penetration and combustion effect behind the front target, leading to the effective ignition of fuel tank. For the brittleness of as-cast W-ZrTi ESM,further study conducted bond-based peridynamic(BB-PD)C++computational code to simulate its fracture behavior during penetration. The BB-PD method successfully captured the fracture process and debris cloud formation of the energetic fragment. This paper explores a novel as-cast metallic ESM,and provides an available numerical avenue to the simulation of brittle energetic fragment. 展开更多

The functional properties of glasses are governed by their formation history and the complex relaxation processes they undergo. However, under extreme conditions, glass behaviors are still elusive. In this study,we employ simulations with varied protocols to evaluate the effectiveness of different descriptors in predicting mechanical properties across both low-and high-pressure regimes. Our findings demonstrate that conventional structural and configurational descriptors fail to correlate with the mechanical response following pressure release, whereas the activation energy descriptor exhibits robust linearity with shear modulus after correcting for pressure effects.Notably, the soft mode parameter emerges as an ideal and computationally efficient alternative for capturing this mechanical behavior. These findings provide critical insights into the influence of pressure on glassy properties, integrating the distinct features of compressed glasses into a unified theoretical framework. 展开更多

Social interaction with peer pressure is widely studied in social network analysis.Game theory can be utilized to model dynamic social interaction, and one class of game network models assumes that people’s decision payoff functions hinge on individual covariates and the choices of their friends. However, peer pressure would be misidentified and induce a non-negligible bias when incomplete covariates are involved in the game model. For this reason,we develop a generalized constant peer effects model based on homogeneity structure in dynamic social networks. The new model can effectively avoid bias through homogeneity pursuit and can be applied to a wider range of scenarios. To estimate peer pressure in the model,we first present two algorithms based on the initialize expand merge method and the polynomial-time twostage method to estimate homogeneity parameters. Then we apply the nested pseudo-likelihood method and obtain consistent estimators of peer pressure.Simulation evaluations show that our proposed methodology can achieve desirable and effective results in terms of the community misclassification rate and parameter estimation error. We also illustrate the advantages of our model in the empirical analysis when compared with a benchmark model. 展开更多

Stimuli-responsive polymers capable of rapidly altering their chain conformation in response to external stimuli exhibit broad applica-tion prospects.Experiments have shown that pressure plays a pivotal role in regulating the microscopic chain conformation of polymers in mixed solvents, and one notable finding is that increasing the pressure can lead to the vanishing of the co-nonsolvency effect. However, the mecha-nisms underlying this phenomenon remain unclear. In this study,we systematically investigated the influence of pressure on the co-nonsolvency effect of single-chain and multi-chain homopolymers in binary mixed good-solvent systems using molecular dynamics simulations. Our results show that the co-nonsolvency-induced chain conformation transition and aggregation behavior significantly depend on pressure in allsingle-chain and multi-chain systems. In single-chain systems,at low pressures, the polymer chain maintains a collapsed state over a wide range of co-solvent fractions(x-range)owing to the co-nonsolvency effect. As the pressure increases, the x-range of the collapsed state gradually narrows,ac-companied by a progressive expansion of the chain. In multichain systems, polymer chains assemble into approximately spherical aggregates over a broad x-range at low pressures owing to the co-nonsolvency effect.Increasing the pressure reduces the x-range for forming aggregates and leads to the formation of loose aggregates or even to a state of dispersed chains at some x-range.These findings indicate that increasing the pressure can weaken or even offset the co-nonsolvency effect in some x-range,which is in good agreement with the experimental observations.Quantitative analysis of the radial density distributions and radial distribution functions reveals that, with increasing pressure,(1)the densities of both polymers and co-solvent molecules within aggregates decrease, while that of the solvent molecule increases;and(2)the effective interac-tions between the polymer and the co-solvent weaken, whereas those between the polymer and solvent strengthen. This enhances the incorpo-ration of solvent molecules within the chains, thereby weakening or even suppressing the chain aggregation. Our study not only elucidates the regulatory mechanism of pressure on the microscopic chain conformations and aggregation behaviors of polymers, but also may provide theo-retical guidance for designing smart polymericmaterials based on mixed solvents. 展开更多

This paper proposed the split short Hopkinson pressure bar(SSHPB)with short incident and transmission bars to investigate the dynamic compression characteristics of sandstone under different strain rates. The SSHPB was constructed to carry out impact tests to obtain superimposed stress waves in short bars. The separated stress waves(incident, reflected and transmitted waves)were determined by the proposed wave separation method and further used to determine the stress-strain relationship of sandstone. The SSHPB was validated by comparing the dynamic properties of sandstone determined by the SSHPB with those determined by the traditional split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB).The effect of the strain rate on the accuracy of the SSHPB was discussed. The results show that the stress-strain relationship of sandstone determined by the SSHPB agrees well with that determined by the traditional SHPB.The variation in the dynamic properties of sandstone with strain rate determined by the SSHPB is similar to that determined by the traditional SHPB.Under different strain rates, the relative error between the dynamic properties of sandstone determined by the SSHPB and traditional SHPB is less than 5%.Compared with the traditional SHPB,the SSHPB can reduce the length of the incident and transmission bars by 50%,which is an alternative to the traditional SHPB. 展开更多

To retain its inherent biodegradability, simultaneously improving the strength and toughness of poly(lactic acid)(PLA)is a significant challenge. In this study,we propose an innovative multiple dynamic pressure(MDP)process that can produce pure PLA with excellent mechanical properties. The MDP process generates a dynamic stretching effect by regulating the application and release of pressure, prompting disordered molecular chains to be arranged regularly along the direction of the dynamic force field. This promoted the formation of more ordered crystal forms(α-form)and strengthened the connection between the crystalline and amorphous regions. Results show that after MDP treatment, the tensile strength and strain at break of MDP-PLA are significantly improved, reaching 91.6 MPa and 80.1%respectively,which are 49.4%higher and 10 times higher than those of the samples before treatment. The mechanical properties of MDP-PLA can be regulated as needed by adjusting the cycle times and peak pressure. In addition, through a systematic study of the structural evolution of MDP-PLA,the performance regulation mechanism of the MDP process was thoroughly investigated, and the internal relationship among the process-structure-performance was clarified. This research not only opens a new technical path for the preparation of high-performance pure PLA but also provides important guidance for the high-performance modification of other semi-crystalline polymers, thus possessing significant scientific and engineering value. 展开更多

Beam structures are extensively used in many engineering branches. For marine engineering, the ship shafting system is generally simplified as a vibration model with single or multiple beam structures connected by the coupling stiffness. In engineering, multiple nonlinear energy sinks(NESs)can be arranged on the premise of sufficient installation space to ensure their vibration suppression effect.Considering engineering practice, this study investigates the dynamic behavior and vibration suppression of a generally restrained pre-pressure beam structure with multiple uniformly distributed NESs,where the prepressure is typically caused by thrust bearings, installation ways, and others.System governing equations are derived through the generalized Hamiltonian principle and the variational procedure.Dynamic responses of the pre-pressure beam structure are predicted by the Galerkin truncation method. The effect of NESs on dynamic responses and vibration suppression of the pre-pressure beam structure is studied and discussed.Suitable parameters of NESs have a beneficial effect on the vibration suppression at both ends of the pre-pressure beam structure.NESs can modify the vibration frequency and energy transmission characteristics of the vibration system. For different boundary conditions, the optimized parameters of NESs significantly suppress the vibration energy of the pre-pressure beam structure. 展开更多

For studying the driving role of dynamic pressure in water-induced damage of asphalt pavement, based on the fast Lagrangian finite difference method and Biot dynamic consolidation theory, fluid-solid coupling analysis of the pavement is conducted considering asphalt mixtures as porous media. Results reveal that the development and dissipation of the dynamic pore pressure are coinstantaneous and this makes both the positive and negative dynamic pore pressure and seepage force alternate with time. Repetitive hydrodynamic pumping and sucking during moisture damage is proved. The dynamic pore pressure increases with vehicle velocity. Effective stress and deflection of pavement decrease due to the dynamic pore water pressure. However, the emulsification and replacement of the asphalt membrane by water are accelerated. The maximum dynamic pore pressure occurs at the bottom of the surface course. So it is suggested that a drain course should be set up to change the draining condition from single-sided drain to a two-sided drain, and thus moisture damage can be effectively limited. 展开更多

The loss of hydrocarbon production caused by the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures under long-term production conditions has been widely reported in recent studies. However, the quantitative relationships for the variations of the inner boundary and propped fractures have not been determined and incorporated in the semi-analytical models for the pressure and rate transient analysis. This work focuses on describing the variations of the inner boundary and propped fractures and capturing the typical characteristics from the pressure transient curves.A generalized semi-analytical model was developed to characterize the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures under long-term production conditions. The pressure-dependent length shrinkage coefficients, which quantify the length changes of the inner zone and propped fractures, are modified and incorporated into this multi-zone semi-analytical model. With simultaneous numerical iterations and numerical inversions in Laplace and real-time space, the transient solutions to pressure and rate behavior are determined in just a few seconds. The dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures on transient pressure curves is divided into five periods:fracture bilinear flow(FR1),dynamic PFs flow(FR2),inner-area linear flow(FR3),dynamic inner boundary flow(FR4),and outer-area dominated linear flow(FR5).The early hump during FR2 period and a positive upward shift during FR4period are captured on the log-log pressure transient curves, reflecting the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary and propped fractures during the long-term production period. The transient pressure behavior will exhibit greater positive upward trend and the flow rate will be lower with the shrinkage of the inner boundary. The pressure derivative curve will be upward earlier as the inner boundary shrinks more rapidly. The lower permeability caused by the closure of un-propped fractures in the inner zone results in greater upward in pressure derivative curves. If the permeability loss for the dynamic behavior of the inner boundary caused by the closure of un-propped fractures is neglected, the flow rate will be overestimated in the later production period. 展开更多

Freeze-thaw(F-T)cycle is receiving increasing attention as a primary threat to the long-term stability of rock engineering in high-elevation regions. In this study, artificial F-T cycle tests are first conducted on pre-flawed sandstone specimens with real-time frost heave pressure(FHP)monitoring, followed by subsequent cyclic loading tests with different maximum stresses.Given the water-ice-sandstone interaction, the evolution process of FHP in flaws can be divided into six phases,i.e.initial,silence,eruption,reduction,second-arising,and dissipation phases. Its magnitude exhibits an exponential decrease with increasing F-T cycle number. The influences of F-T cycles and the maximum stress on the fatigue mechanical characteristics of flawed sandstone are revealed.Subjected to higher F-T cycles and maximum stress, larger irreversible strain and less dissipated energy are accumulated inside flawed sandstone specimens, leading to faster damage and lower fatigue life. The three-stage evolution characters of irreversible strain and dissipated energy are both weakened by repeated F-T treatment,i.e.the prolonged initial and accelerated stages and shortened stable stage. In addition, the repeated F-T cycles diminish the impact of prefabricated flaws on cracking behavior of flawed sandstone specimens, and the fatigue failure pattern changes from shear-dominated failure with a transfixion shear band to tensile-dominated failure with massive tensile cracks as the F-T cycle number increases.Employing the scanning electron microscopy(SEM),the underlying damage mechanisms of flawed rocks under the coupling effect of F-T treatment and cyclic loading are discussed. Finally,an F-T-fatigue damage model is proposed based on FHP evolution and irreversible strain, which possesses distinct physical significance and reasonably quantifies the F-T deterioration and fatigue damage accumulation of flawed rocks. 展开更多

The airflow mechanics in adult nasal airways, whether healthy or abnormal, are extensively studied and investigated, but the flow mechanics in child nasal airways remain underexplored. This study investigates the airflow mechanics in the child’s nasal upper airway with adenoid hypertrophy, with an adenoid nasopharyngeal ratio(AN of 0.9),under cyclic inhalation and exhalation. An inlet respiratory cycle with three different flow rates(3.2 L/min calm breathing,8.6 L/min normal breathing, and 19.3 L/min intensive breathing)was simulated by using the computational fluid dynamics approach. To better capture the interaction between airflow and the flexible airway tissue,fluid-structure interaction analysis was performed at the normal breathing rate.Comparing the airflow dynamics during inhalation and exhalation, the pressure drops, nasal resistance, and wall shear stress show significant differences in the nasopharyngeal region for all different flow rates. This observation suggests that the inertial effect associated with the transient flow is important during exhalation and inhalation.Furthermore, the considerable temporal variation in flow rate distribution across a specific cross-section of the nasal airway highlights the critical role of transient data in virtual surgery planning and data for clinical decisions. 展开更多

This study investigates the dynamic compressive behavior of three periodic lattice structures fabricated from Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, each with distinct topologies:simple cubic(SC),body-centered cubic(BCC),and face-centered cubic(FCC).Dynamic compression experiments were conducted using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB)system, complemented by high-speed imaging to capture real-time deformation and failure mechanisms under impact loading. The influence of cell topology, relative density, and strain rate on dynamic mechanical properties, failure behavior, and stress wave propagation was systematically examined.Finite element modeling was performed, and the simulated results showed good agreement with experimental data. The findings reveal that the dynamic mechanical properties of the lattice structures are generally insensitive to strain rate variations, while failure behavior is predominantly governed by structural configuration. The SC structure exhibited strut buckling and instability-induced fracture, whereas the BCC and FCC structures displayed layer-by-layer crushing with lower strain rate sensitivity.Regarding stress wave propagation, all structures demonstrated significant attenuation capabilities, with the BCC structure achieving the greatest reduction in transmitted wave amplitude and energy.Across all configurations, wave reflection was identified as the primary energy dissipation mechanism. These results provide critical insights into the design of lattice structures for impact mitigation and energy absorption applications. 展开更多

An optical-based technique using Pressure-Sensitive Paint(PSP) is a promising method to measure the distribution of surface pressure on an aerodynamic model. The static and dynamic characteristics of a fast-response PSP that is developed in the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)are analyzed and tested to serve as the basis for experiments on unsteady surface measurement using a fast-response PSP. Two calibration systems used for this study are set up to investigate the temperature dependency, response time, and resolution. A data processing method, used for dynamic data, is analyzed and selected carefully to determine the optimum signal. Results show that the fastresponse PSP can be used normally at temperatures from 25 ℃ to 80 ℃. The effect of temperature on the accuracy of the measurement must be considered when temperatures are beyond the temperature range of 30–40 ℃. The dynamic calibration device with a solenoid valve can achieve a pressure jump within a millisecond order. The resolution is determined by the signal-to-noise ratio of the photo-multiplier tube. Results of the measurement show that the response time of the PSP decreases with a large pressure variation, and the response time is below 0.016 s when the pressure variation is under 40 kPa. 展开更多
