Based on the vector diffraction theory, the effect of complex phase filters on intensity distribution of a radially polarized multi Gaussian beam in the focal region of high NA lens is theoretically investigated. It is observed that a properly designed multi belt complex phase filter can generate subwavelength novel focal patterns including splitting of focal spots and generation of multiple focal spot segments such as eight, six and four focal spots along the optical axis are obtained. We expect that such an investigation is useful for optical manipulation and material processing, multiple high refractive index particle trapping technologies. 展开更多

We propose a new approach for generating a multiple focal spot segment of subwavelength size, by tight focusing of a phase modulated radially polarized Laguerre Bessel Gaussian beam. The focusing properties are investigated theoretically by .vector diffraction theory. We observe that the focal segment with multiple focal structures is separated with different axial distances and a super long dark channel can be generated by properly tuning the phase of the incident radially polarized Laguerre Bessel Gaussian beam. We presume that such multiple focal patterns and high intense beam may find applications in atom optics, optical manipulations and multiple optical trapping. 展开更多

An injection-seeded single-frequency Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is accomplished by using a phase modulated rampfire technique. A RbTiOPO4(RTP) electro-optic crystal is selected for effective optical path length modulation of the slave self-filtering unstable resonator. This single-frequency laser is capable of producing 50 m J pulse energy at 1 Hz repetition rate with a pulse width of 16 ns. The standard deviation of laser pulse intensity for consecutive 100 shots from the mean pulse intensity is less than 1.05%. A spectral linewidth of less than 0.5 pm with a frequency jitter of about 14 fm over30 min is obtained. 展开更多

[Background]High harmonic cavities are widely used in electron storage rings to lengthen thebunch,lower the bunch peak current,thereby reducing the IBS effect,enhancing the Touschek lifetime,as well asproviding Landau damping,which is particularly important for storage rings operating with ultra-low emittance or atlow beam energy.[Purpose]To further increase the bunch length without additional hardware costs,the phasemodulation in a dual-RF system is considered.[Methods]In this paper,turn-by-turn simulations incorporating randomsynchrotron radiation excitation are conducted,and a brief analysis is presented to explain the bunch lengtheningmechanism.[Results]Simulation results reveal that the peak current can be further reduced,thereby mitigating IBSeffects and enhancing the Touschek lifetime.Although the energy spread increases,which tends to reduce thebrightness of higher-harmonic radiation from the undulator,the brightness of the fundamental harmonic can,in fact,beimproved. 展开更多

Optical phase-gradient metasurfaces have garnered significant attention for enabling flexible light manipulation,with applications across diverse domains.In this work,we will demonstrate that the metasurfaces with phase gradient modulation can be used to achieve illusion optics,featuring the advantages of simple geometric structure and feasible implementation compared with the well-known transformation optics method.The underlying mechanism is the anomalous diffraction law caused by the phase gradient,which provides a theoretical basis for freely manipulating the propagation path of light.By considering a specific example,we will demonstrate that the phase gradient can transform spatial coordinates in real space into illusion space,thereby converting a plane in real space into a curved surface structure in illusion space to achieve the illusion effect.This approach provides a viable alternative to transformation optics for designing illusion devices. 展开更多

A novel scheme for generating optical chaos is proposed and experimentally demonstrated,which supports to simultaneously produce two low-correlation chaotic signals with wideband spectrum and suppressed time-delay-signature(TDS).In the proposed scheme,we use the output of an external-cavity semiconductor laser(ECSL)as the driving signal of a phase modulator to modulate the output of a CW laser.Then the phase-modulated continuous-wave(CW)light is split into two parts,one is injected back into the ECSL that outputs one chaotic signal,while the other part is passed through a dispersion module for generating another chaotic signal simultaneously.The experimental results prove that the proposed scheme has three merits.Firstly,it can improve the bandwidth of ECSL-based chaos by several times,and simultaneously generate another wideband flat-spectrum chaotic signal.Secondly,the undesired TDS characteristics of the simultaneously-generated chaotic signals can be efficiently suppressed to an indistinguishable level within a wide parameter range,as such the complexities of the chaotic signals are considerably high.Thirdly,the correlation coefficient between these two simultaneously-generated chaotic signals is smaller than 0.1.The proposed scheme provides an attractive solution for parallel multiple chaos generation,and shows great potential for multiple channel chaos communications and multiple random bit generations. 展开更多

In this Letter, we propose a novel constellation-shaping carrier-less amplitude and phase (CAP) modulation scheme to alleviate the systematic nonlinearity in visible light communication (VLC) systems. A simple geo- metric transformation shaping method is employed to convert the normal square lattice constellation into multi- ple circular constellations. The feasibility and performance are investigated and experimentally demonstrated by a 1.25 Gb/s CAP-modulated VLC system. The results indicate that the circular constellation has better resis- tance to systematic nonlinearity compared with a rectangular constellation. The dynamic range of input signal peak-to-peak values promotes 20% at a low bias voltage nonlinear area and 50% at a high bias voltage nonlinear area. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time constellation-shaping CAP has ever been reported in indoor high data rate VLC systems. 展开更多

The phase-modulated quadrature squeezing in the system that composed of two coupled cavities interacting with a two-level atom is investigated.The variances of the amplitude and phase quadrature of the output field are calculated.It turns out that the squeezing behaviors of the output field can be obviously modified due to the phase difference of the coupling strengths between the atom and the two cavities.The squeezing in one quadrature(i.e.,phase quadrature)can be transferred into another(i.e.,amplitude quadrature),or the quadrature squeezing located at the low-frequency region can be transferred into the high-frequency region by modulating the relative phase of the coupling strengths.Furthermore,the effects of the decay mismatch between the two cavities and the coupling mismatch between the atom and the cavities on the quadrature squeezing have been discussed.The results show that both the decay mismatch and the coupling mismatch play a positive role in generating better quadrature squeezing. 展开更多

Radio frequency interference (RFI) is a major problem in high-frequency (HF) radars. Conventional filtering-involved RFI suppression methods may introduce distortions to the target signals of interest and often demand extra hardware costs. In this paper, a novel method for RFI suppression by using linearly or randomly phase-modulated (PM) chirps is proposed, which enables independent analyses of the target signal and the RFI. Furthermore, the directions of arrival (DOA) of the interference are used as constraints to ensure a better DOA estimation of the target. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by numerical simulation results. The method can greatly improve the anti-interference capabilities of HF radars and is extremely applicable in the portable and low-cost radar systems. 展开更多

Design of high phase-sensitivity BlueP/TMDC heterostructure-based SPR biosensor using improved artificial bee colony algorithm

This paper uses an innovative improved artificial bee colony(IABC)algorithm to aid in the fabrication of a highly responsive phasemodulation surface plasmon resonance(SPR)biosensor.In this biosensor’s sensing structure,a double-layer Ag-Au metal film is combined with a blue phosphorene/transition metal dichalcogenide(BlueP/TMDC)hybrid structure and graphene.In the optimization function of the IABC method,the reflectivity at resonance angle is incorporated as a constraint to achieve high phase sensitivity.The performance of the Ag-Au-BlueP/TMDC-graphene heterostructure as optimized by the IABC method is compared with that of a similar structure optimized using the traditional ABC algorithm.The results indicate that optimization using the IABC method gives significantly more phase sensitivity,together with lower reflectivity,than can be achieved with the traditional ABC method.The highest phase sensitivity of 3.662×10^(6) °/RIU is achieved with a bilayer of BlueP/WS2 and three layers of graphene.Moreover,analysis of the electric field distribution demonstrates that the optimal arrangement can be utilized for enhanced detection of small biomolecules.Thus,given the exceptional sensitivity achieved,the proposed method based on the IABC algorithm has great promise for use in the design of high-performance SPR biosensors with a variety of multilayer structures. 展开更多

Wide temperature interval zero thermal expansion(ZTE)materials have important applications in advanced technology and precision manufacturing.In this study,Fe doping was used to achieve a near room temperature magnetic phase transition and ZTE in Dy(Co_(1-x)Fex)_(2) compounds.The observed coefficient of thermal expansion α_(1)=5.8×10^(-7) K^(-1)(5-305 K)is superior to most other ZTE materials.The combination of the positive contribution to thermal expansion from lattice anharmonic vibrations and the negative contribution from magnetic coupling leads to a wide temperature interval ZTE in the ferrimagnetic(FIM)state,which can be quantitatively described by the spontaneous volume magnetostriction parameterω_(s).First-principles calculations reveal the electron distribution and transfer properties from FIM state to the paramagnetic state in DyCo_(2) system and explain the change in magnetic moment after Fe doping.The increase of the exchange coupling parameter Jeff determined that the Fe doping increases the phase transition temperature TC by introducing additional exchange interactions.Moreover,evidences such as the Arrott plots,critical exponent n and coupling coefficient b demonstrated that Fe doping causes the transition from a first-order phase transition to a second-order phase transition with a smoother transition interval,which is conducive to broadening the ZTE interval.This work reveals the change in the electron transfer properties after magnetic transition and elucidates the ZTE mechanism from the combined effects of magnetic coupling and lattice anharmonic vibrations,which provides promising methods for exploring ZTE. 展开更多

We propose and analyze a novel Si-based electro-optic modulator with an improved metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) capacitor configuration integrated into silicon-on-insulator (SOl). Three gate-oxide layers embedded in the silicon waveguide constitute a triple MOS capacitor structure, which boosts the modulation efficiency compared with a single MOS capacitor. The simulation results demonstrate that the Vπ Lπ product is 2. 4V · cm. The rise time and fall time of the proposed device are calculated to be 80 and 40ps from the transient response curve, respectively,indicating a bandwidth of 8GHz. The phase shift efficiency and bandwidth can be enhanced by rib width scaling. 展开更多

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) usually contain more than five alloying elements. The ductility of a body-centered cubic (bcc)- type HEA typically is lower than that of their face-centered cubic (fcc) counterpart. An... High-entropy alloys (HEAs) usually contain more than five alloying elements. The ductility of a body-centered cubic (bcc)- type HEA typically is lower than that of their face-centered cubic (fcc) counterpart. And low ductility restricts engineering applications of the bcc-structured HEAs. In engineering materials, improvement in ductility usually results in deduction of mechanical strength. A method to improve both mechanical strength and ductility in a bcc-structured HEA was proposed by adding interstitial carbon. Experimental results showed that replacement of 5 at.% Cr with 5 at.% C in a bcc-structured Fe35Mn25Al15Cr10Ni15 HEA resulted in an increase in fcc phase from 0.3 to 93.7 vol.%. Strength and ductility increased at the same time. The transition of bcc-structure to fcc-structure along with a remaining small amount of bcc phase improved mechanical properties. This work indicates that interstitial carbon can be employed to modulate the fraction of constituent phases in a bcc-structured HEA to enhance engineering mechanical properties. 展开更多

For pulse Doppler radars,the widely used method for identifying second-trip echoes(STs)in the signal processing level yields significant misidentification in regions of high turbulence and severe wind shear.In the data processing level,although the novel algorithm for ST identification does not yield significant misidentification in specific regions,its overall identification performance is not ideal.Therefore,this paper proposes a hybrid method for the identification of STs using phase modulation(signal processing)and polarimetric technology(data processing).Through this approach,most of the STs are removed,whereas most of the first-trip echoes(FTs)remain untouched.Compared with the existing method using a signal quality index filter with an optimized threshold,the hybrid method exhibits superior performance(Heidke skill scores of 0.98 versus 0.88)on independent test datasets,especially in high-turbulence and severe-wind-shear regions,for which misidentification is significantly reduced. 展开更多

The proposed algorithm can greatly reduce the state number,thus leads to the computation complexity reduction. It also minimizes the degradation in Euclidean distance with decision feedback in the reduced state trellis. The multi-tap characteristics of the filter are realized by slicing a broadband source using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) which results in a high MSR of 25 dB. The tunability of the filter is realized by an optical variable delay line (OVDL) in one arm of the MZI, which changes the wavelength spacing of the sliced broadband source and results in a tunable free spectrum range (FSR) of the filter. The central frequency of the bandpass filter is tunable from 10.7 GHz to 27 GHz by changing the wavelength spacing from 0.145 nm to 0.054 nm. 展开更多

This paper proposes a new information modulation resorting to orthogonal signal and its phase for dual-function radar communication(DFRC)systems.Focusing on the standardized linear frequency modulation(LFM)signal by additional phase,a bank of signals enjoying satisfactory autocorrelation and cross-correlation characteristics,are generated.Then,these signals map the different information as well as their phases are also modulated to increase the communication bit rate,thus yielding a series of dual-use signals.Finally,the radar detection and communication performance of dual-use signals are also provided through numerical simulation and half-physical platform verification,confirming the effectiveness of the designed signals compared with the existing design strategy. 展开更多

A radiofrequency(RF)phase modulation method is applied to the Hefei Light Source II storage ring to deeply investigate its longitudinal beam characteristics and improve the beam lifetime.A theoretical analytical model and corresponding experimental measurements of single bunch length and island phenomena are examined.From a series of online machine experiments,we demonstrate that the suitable phase modulation amplitude is 0.02 rad,corresponding to an optimum modulation frequency ranging from 19.6 to 20.7 kHz of the RF system.Furthermore,the overall beam lifetime can be increased by a factor of 2.38 as a result of the beam dilution effect. 展开更多
