This study develops a contact performance-driven method for skiving face gear drives using a single cutter, eliminating the traditional need for separate cutters to reduce production costs and time.First, the mathematical models of the tooth flanks for the face gear drives are established based on the gear skiving processes. Then, load tooth contact analysis(LTCA)model is established to calculate the contact performance data.Next,a two-stage optimization model is employed to determine the optimal parameters of the cutting edge with improved contact performances. The effectiveness of this method is validated through simulations and rolling tests.Compared with the traditional method, the proposed method can machine both the face gear and its mating pinion with a single cutter.Simulation results show that the proposed method avoids tooth surface edge contact, with the maximum tooth surface contact stress reduced by 31.7%,the contact ratio decreases by 21.5%,and the transmission error increases by 22.3%.Rolling tests verify the consistency of tooth surface contact patterns between simulations and experiments. The proposed method provides a reference for the cutting edge design of skiving cutters for face gear pairs. 展开更多

Long-bone fractures are common complaints in orthopedic surgery. In recent years, significant progress has been made in robot-assisted fracture-reduction techniques. As a key medical device for diverse fracture morphologies and sites, the design of the reduction robot has a profound impact on the reduction outcomes. However, existing reduction robots have practical limitations and cannot simultaneously satisfy clinical requirements in terms of workspace,force/torque,and structural stiffness. To overcome these problems,we first analyze the potential placement areas and performance requirements of reduction robots according to clinical application scenarios.Subsequently,a 3UPS/S-3P hybrid configuration with decoupled rotational and translational degrees of freedom(DOFs)is proposed, and a kinematic model is derived to achieve the motion characteristics of the remote center of motion(RCM).Furthermore, the structural design of a hybrid reduction robot with an integrated distal clamp and proximal fixator was completed, and a mechanical prototype was constructed. The results of the performance evaluations and static analysis demonstrate that the proposed reduction robot has acceptable workspace, force, and torque performance and excellent structural stiffness. Two clinical case simulations further demonstrated the clinical feasibility of the robot. Finally, preliminary experiments on bone models demonstrated the potential effectiveness of the proposed reduction robot in lower-limb fracture reduction. 展开更多

The Distributed Propulsion Wing(DPW)presents prominent advantages in terms of energy conservation during flight, but the intense integration of propulsive internal flow with aerodynamic external flow brings significant design challenges. To tackle this issue, this paper undertakes a comprehensive investigation of the aero-propulsive coupling performance of the DPW under both hovering and cruising conditions, and subsequently proposes a multi-level collaboration optimization design method based on the decomposition principle.Specifically, the complex 3D surfaces of DPW are systematically dissociated into simple 2D curves with inherent relationships for design. The decomposition is achieved based on the analysis results of the aero-propulsive coupling characteristics. And a DPW design case is conducted and subsequently analyzed in order to further validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed design method. It is shown that a 115.75%drag reduction of DPW can be achieved at cruise under a specified thrust level.Furthermore, the DPW exhibits inherent characteristics of consistent lift-to-drag ratio with the thrust-drag balance constraint, regardless of variations in incoming flow velocity or total thrust. 展开更多

This study proposes a process to obtain an optimal helicopter rotor blade shape for aerodynamic performance in hover flight. A new geometry representation algorithm which uses the class function/shape function transformation (CST) is employed to generate airfoil coordinates. With this approach, airfoil shape is considered in terms of design variables. The optimization process is constructed by integrating several programs developed by author. The design variables include twist, taper ratio, point of taper initiation, blade root chord, and coefficients of the airfoil distribution function. Aerodynamic constraints consist of limits on power available in hover and forward flight. The trim condition must be attainable. This paper considers rotor blade configuration for the hover flight condition only, so that the required power in hover is chosen as the objective function of the optimization problem. Sensitivity analysis of each design variable shows that airfoil shape has an important role in rotor performance. The optimum rotor blade reduces the required hover power by 7.4% and increases the figure of merit by 6.5%, which is a good improvement for rotor blade design. 展开更多

Satellite constellation configuration design is a complicated and time-consuming simulation optimization problem. In this paper, a new method called the rapid method for satellite constellation performance calculation is developed by the Hermite interpolation technique to reduce the computing complication and time. The constellation configuration optimization model is established on the basis of the rapid performance calculation. To reduce the search space and enhance the optimization efficiency, this paper presents a new constellation optimization strategy based on the ordinal optimization (00) theory and expands the algorithm realization for constellation optimization including precise and crude models, ordered performance curves, selection rules and selected subsets. Two experiments about navigation constellation and space based surveillance system (SBSS) are carried out and the analysis of simulation results indicates that the ordinal optimization for satellite constellation configuration design is effective. 展开更多

The mechanism of the effects of anisotropic permeability on well patterns and reservoir development are investigated by coordinate transformation, fluid flow analysis, and reservoir development concepts. Anisotropy of permeability has reconstructive effects on well patterns. The originally designed flooding units are broken up, and new pattern units are made up of the wells that belong to different original units. The behavior possesses strong randomness, and leads to a complicated relationship among the injection and production wells, and unpredictable productivity of the formations. To prevent the break-up of well patterns, well lines should be either parallel or perpendicular to the maximum principal direction of the anisotropic permeability (i.e. the fracture direction). To optimize the development effects ofanisotropic formations, the latitudinal and longitudinal well spacing of the well network are calculated from the principal values of the anisotropic permeability. 展开更多

Loitering munitions are increasingly used in armed conflicts. An extensive database of loitering munitions is developed based on information available in the public domain. This database includes dimensions, weights, and performance parameters such as flight endurance and communication range.Based upon this dataset,6 categories of loitering munitions are identified and statistical trends in the form of equations are provided for each category. The statistical trends are supported by aircraft performance theory tailored to loitering munitions applications.Altogether, the combination of the database, statistical trends and aircraft performance theory can be used to analyse the flight performance and design considerations of new loitering munitions of which only limited non-technical information is available in the public domain such as pictures and news articles.Based on the statistical trends and aircraft performance theory it is concluded that for long range applications, the preferred design solution is the conventional configuration. The cruciform configuration is beneficial in case precision flight path control is of prime importance. The tandem wing configuration combines the benefits of a canister launch and relatively high aspect ratio wings suitable for long range flight. Finally, the delta wing design provides a large internal volume and a high terminal attack airspeed. Two example case studies are included to illustrate the flight performance capabilities of two types of loitering munitions used in the current conflict in Yemen(a long range conventional design and a delta wing configuration). 展开更多

Four types of seismic design details were tested using 11 transfer column specimens and one comparison specimen of RC under low cyclic reversed loading. Test results show that diagonal cracks control the failure pattern and damage occurs mainly in the RC section with weak shear capacity in the transfer columns. There is a large difference in the bearing capacity and ductility of the transfer columns according to the test results, which indicates that the strengthening effect of diverse structural measures is quite different. The section ratio of I-section-encased steel and the axial compression ratio also have a great influence on the bearing capacity and ductility. Although the bearing capacity of transfer columns with additional longitudinal bars and additional X bars is relatively large, they have poor deformation capacity. Setting more stirrups along the columns is the best structural measure to enhance the seismic performance. The studs on the I-sectionencased steel by welding can help to complete the stress transfer between the steel and concrete, and avoid performance degradation of the two materials due to bonding failure. 展开更多

The present study introduces a screw-pressing charging method to tackle deficiencies in automation and charge uniformity during the melt-casting of polymer-based energetic materials. To ensure the safety of the experiments, this study used inert materials with similar physical properties to partially substitute for the actual energetic components in the preparation of simulant materials.By thoroughly analyzing slurry physical properties,a simulation framework and an extensive performance evaluation method were developed.Such tools guide the design of the structure and configuration of process parameters. Results demonstrate that employing the Pin element significantly enhances radial mixing within the screw, minimizes temperature variations in the slurry, and improves both efficiency and safety in the mixing process.Further, adjustments such as widening the cone angle of the barrel, modifying the solid content of the slurry, and varying the speed of the screw can optimize the mechanical and thermal coupling in the flow field. These adjustments promote higher-quality slurry and create a safer production environment for the extrusion process. 展开更多

Design method for large stone porous asphalt mixtures (LSPM) was analyzed to avoid the early distresses of semi-rigid asphalt pavements. Based on stone-to-stone skeleton structure concept, processes of LSPM gradation design was given. The gradation composite design for LSPM shows that the LSPM nominal maximum size ( N MS) should be larger than 26.5 mm, and the NMS sieve passing percentage should be greater than 50%. Through experiments and calculations on the volume properties of the aggregate, the range of aggregate gradation curve of LSPM was given. In terms of asphalt binder's normalized test results, MAC-70 and SBS modified asphalt were selected as the asphalt binders. The applicability of large scale Marshall Method and gyratory compaction method to shape specimens was investigated. Based on the asphalt mixture performance evaluation, the optimum asphalt content range (3.1%-3.6%), the bitumen film's thickness range (13-16 μm) and the air void range (13%-18 %) were recommended. Finally, LSPM was tested by the laboratory performance tests including rutting resistance test, fatigue test and water stability test. The theoretic and practical analysis shows that LSPM has a good performance on water permeability, rutting resistance and reflection crack resistance. 展开更多

Operation optimization is an effective method to explore potential economic benefits for existing plants. The m.aximum potential benefit from operationoptimization is determined by the distances between current operating point and process constraints, which is related to the margins of design variables. Because of various ciisturbances in chemical processes, some distances must be reserved for fluctuations of process variables and the optimum operating point is not on some process constraints. Thus the benefit of steady-state optimization can not be fully achied(ed while that of dynamic optimization can be really achieved. In this study, the steady-state optimizationand dynamic optimization are used, and the potential benefit-is divided into achievable benefit for profit and unachievable benefit for control. The fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) is used for case study. With the analysis on how the margins of design variables influence the economic benefit and control performance, the bottlenecks of process design are found and appropriate control structure can be selected. 展开更多

The alternative working modes and flexible working states are the outstanding features of an adaptive cycle engine, with a proper control schedule design being the only way to exploit the performance of such an engine. However, unreasonable design in the control schedule causes not only performance deterioration but also serious aerodynamic stability problems. Thus, in this work,a hybrid optimization method that automatically chooses the working modes and identifies the optimal and smooth control schedules is proposed, by combining the differential evolution algorithm and the Latin hypercube sampling method. The control schedule architecture does not only optimize the engine steady-state performance under different working modes but also solves the control-schedule discontinuity problem, especially during mode transition. The optimal control schedules are continuous and almost monotonic, and hence are strongly suitable for a control system, and are designed for two different working conditions, i.e., supersonic and subsonic throttling, which proves that the proposed hybrid method applies to various working conditions. The evaluation demonstrates that the proposed control method optimizes the engine performance, the surge margin of the compression components, and the range of the thrust during throttling. 展开更多
