Buckling under axial compression represents one of the most hazardous failure modes for such structures. In this paper, the smeared stiffness method, which incorporates the effect of component torsion, is used to obtain the equivalent stiffness coefficients for composite lattice conical shells with triangular and hexagonal patterns. A unified framework based on the variational differential quadrature (VDQ) method is established, leveraging its suitability for asymptotic expansion to determine the critical buckling loads and the b-imperfection sensitivity parameter of lattice conical shells with axially varying stiffness due to rib layout. Solving the aerodynamic problems has become one of the key factors of the high-speed train head design. Given that the aerodynamic drag is a significant factor that restrains train speed and energy conservation, reducing the aerodynamic drag is thus an important consideration of the high-speed train head design. However, the reduction of the aerodynamic drag may increase other aerodynamic forces (moments), possibly deteriorating the operational safety of the train. The performance of the three existing models for the hindcasting of cyclone wind fields is first examined, and then two modification methods are proposed to improve the hindcasted results. The first one is the superposition method, which superposes the wind field calculated from the parametric cyclone model on that obtained from the cross-calibrated multi-platform (CCMP) reanalysis data. The radius used for the superposition is based on an analysis of the minimum difference between the two wind fields. The other one is the direct modification method, which directly modifies the CCMP reanalysis data according to the ratio of the measured maximum wind speed to the reanalyzed value as well as the distance from the cyclone center. Using these two methods, the problem of underestimation of strong winds in reanalysis data can be overcome. Both methods show considerable improvements in the hindcasting of tropical cyclone wind fields, compared with the cyclone wind model and the reanalysis data.展开更多

Traditional assessments of these parameters of soil fertility status are somewhat costly, in both economics and time aspects. Different modelling techniques have been proposed as a useful tool for determination of soil quality indicators and development of soil fertility maps, but to what extent these results are reliable remains under-quantified in many regions worldwide. To address this uncertainty, Fuzzy-Analytical Hierarchy Process(Fuzzy-AHP) and Parametric analyses were conducted to ascertain the soil fertility status of a semiarid region in the Northeast of Iran for some selected crops: alfalfa, corn silage, potato, sugar beet, tomato and wheat. The Fuzzy-AHP and Parametric techniques using soil suitability indices were estimated for each crop and each soil delineation was achieved by Ordinary Kriging. The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS) was used as a compensatory method to allow tradeoffs among the selected criteria. Our results demonstrated that from the Fuzzy-AHP analysis, the soil fertility indices ranged from moderate to high for production of alfalfa;from low to high for production of corn silage and sugar beet;moderate to high for production of potato and tomato;and from low to moderate for production of wheat. However, the parametric analysis showed soil fertility classes ranging from very low to high for production of all the selected crops. High correlations were also observed between soil fertility indices predicted by both models. Similarly, the capacities of both models to predict soil fertility status for production of the selected crops were also highly correlated. The preference for the cultivation of the selected crops based on the Fuzzy-AHP analysis was sugar beet > corn silage > wheat > alfalfa > tomato > potato. On the other hand, using Parametric techniques, the crops preferences for cultivation ranked as corn silage > wheat > alfalfa > sugar beet > tomato > potato. We concluded that the findings would help to develop sustainable plans of cultivation based on patterns related to soil fertility classes depending on each crop’s requirement.展开更多

A new model is obtained by changing some parameters defining the model. The parts with free-form surfaces (PFFSs), however, cannot be defined by several parameters. Usually they are defined by some geometric elements like profile curves. The traditional parametric design approaches have not easily dealt with the PFFSs. A method for generating a solid model and an engineering drawing for PFFSs is proposed in this paper: First, the new profiles are generated from input point data. Second, the profile information is extracted from the existing model. Last, the old profiles are replaced with the new profiles. This method can preserve the associative information of the existing model and automatically generate the drawing including views, dimen- sions, and annotations. The proposed method has been implemented using a commercial CAD/CAM system, Unigraphics, and API functions written in C-language, and were applied to the blades of a turbine generator. Some illustrative examples are pro- vided in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.展开更多

Considering the dam height, a hydraulic method was chosen to simulate the initial scour position on the downstream slope, with the steepening of the downstream slope taken into account; a headcut erosion formula was adopted to simulate the backward erosion as well. The moment equilibrium method was utilized to calculate the ultimate length of a concrete slab under its self-weight and water loads. The calculated results of the Gouhou CFRD breach case show that the proposed model provides reasonable peak breach flow, final breach width, and failure time, with relative errors less than 15% as compared with the measured data. Sensitivity studies show that the outputs of the proposed model are more or less sensitive to different parameters. Three typical parametric models were compared with the proposed model, and the comparison demonstrates that the proposed physically-based breach model performs better and provides more detailed results than the parametric models.展开更多

For this purpose, the advanced Functional-Series Time-dependent Auto Regressive Moving Average (FS-TARMA) technique is used to estimate the parameters and innovation variance used in the parametric signal decomposition scheme. Additionally, a unique feature extraction and reduction method based on the decomposed signals, known as Latent Components (LCs), is proposed. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method, numerical simulation and an experimental study in the laboratory were conducted on a time-varying structure, where various types of damage were introduced. The Fuzzy Expert System (FES) was used as a classification toot to demonstrate that the proposed method successfully identifies different structural conditions when compared with other methods based on non-reduced and ordinary feature extraction.展开更多

As well known, the shutdown time of a furnace is mainly determined by coking condition of the transfer line exchangers (TLE) when naphtha or other heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks are cracked. In practice, it is difficult to measure the coke thickness in TLE through experimental method in the complex industrial situation. However, the outlet temperature of TLE (TLEOT) can indirectly characterize the coking situation in TLE since the coke accumulation in TLE has great influence on TLEOT. Thus, the TLEOT could be a critical factor in deciding when to shut down the furnace to decoke. To predict the TLEOT, a paramewic model was proposed in this work, based on theoretical analysis, mathematic reduction, and parameters estimation. The feasibility of the proposed model was further checked through industrial data and good agreements between model prediction and industrial data with maximum deviation 2% were observed.展开更多

This approach is based on stochastic auto regressive moving average with exogenous (ARMAX) input and its time-varying form, TARMAX. Model structure selection and parameter estimation were discussed while considering the validation stage. In this papel; the cylindrical structure was considered as a dynamic system with an incoming water wave and resulting forces as the input and outputs, respectively. The experimental data, used in this study, were collected from a full-scale rough vertical cylinder at the Delft Hydraulics Laboratory. The practicality of the proposed method and also its efficiency in structural modeling were demonstrated through applying two hydrodynamic force components. For this purpose, an ARMAX model is first used to capture the dynamics of the process, relating in-line forces provided by water waves; secondly, the TARMAX model was applied to modeling and analysis of the lift forces on the cylinder. The evaluation of the lift force by the TARMAX model shows the model is successful in modeling the force from the surface elevation.展开更多

文摘For accurate Finite Element(FE)modeling for the structural dynamics of aeroengine casings,Parametric Modeling-based Model Updating Strategy(PM-MUS)is proposed based on efficient FE parametric modeling and model updating techniques regarding uncorrelated/correlated mode shapes.Casings structure is parametrically modeled by simplifying initial structural FE model and equivalently simulating mechanical characteristics.Uncorrelated modes between FE model and experiment are reasonably handled by adopting an objective function to recognize correct correlated modes pairs. The parametrized FE model is updated to effectively describe structural dynamic characteristics in respect of testing data. The model updating technology is firstly validated by the detailed FE model updating of one fixed–fixed beam structure in light of correlated/uncorrelated mode shapes and measured mode data. The PM-MUS is applied to the FE parametrized model updating of an aeroengine stator system(casings)which is constructed by the proposed parametric modeling approach. As revealed in this study,(A)the updated models by the proposed updating strategy and dynamic test data is accurate, and(B)the uncorrelated modes like close modes can be effectively handled and precisely identify the FE model mode associated the corresponding experimental mode, and(C)parametric modeling can enhance the dynamic modeling updating of complex structure in the accuracy of mode matching. The efforts of this study provide an efficient dynamic model updating strategy(PM-MUS)for aeroengine casings by parametric modeling and experimental test data regarding uncorrelated modes.

文摘This paper presents a study on the improvement of wind field hindcasts for two typical tropical cyclones, i.e., Fanapi and Meranti, which occurred in 2010. Both methods show considerable improvements in the hindcasting of tropical cyclone wind fields, compared with the cyclone wind model and the reanalysis data.

文摘A good understanding of the levels and distribution patterns of soil properties and/or quality indicators is a prerequisite for developing sustainable agricultural land management programs. We concluded that the findings would help to develop sustainable plans of cultivation based on patterns related to soil fertility classes depending on each crop’s requirement.
文摘3D solid models for parts with regular-form surfaces (PRFSs) are effectively generated using traditional parametric design techniques. Some illustrative examples are pro- vided in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

文摘A simplified physically-based model was developed to simulate the breaching process of the Gouhou concrete-faced rockfill dam (CFRD), which is the only breach case of a high CFRD in the world. Three typical parametric models were compared with the proposed model, and the comparison demonstrates that the proposed physically-based breach model performs better and provides more detailed results than the parametric models.

文摘For the designing of cutting-dies is a complex and experience-based process,it is poorly supported by conventional 3D CAD software. Thus, the majority of design activities, including the(re)modeling of those cutting die-components that are directly responsible for performing shaping operations on a sheet-metal stamping part, traditionally still need to be carried-out repetitively, separately, and manually by the designer. To eliminate some of these drawbacks and upgrade the capabilities of conventional 3D CAD software, this paper proposes a new methodology for the development of a parametric system capable of automatically performing a(re)modeling process of compound washer dies' cutting-components.The presented methodology integrates CATIA V5 built-in modules, including Part Design,Assembly Design and Knowledge Advisor, publication mechanism, and compound cutting die-design knowledge. The system developed by this methodology represents an 'intelligent' assembly template composed of two modules GAJA1 and GAJA2,respectively.GAJA1 is responsible for the direct input of the die-design problem regarding the shape, dimensions and material of the stamping part, its extraction in the form of geometric features, and the transferring of relevant design parameters and features to the module GAJA2.GAJA2 interprets the current values for the input parameters and automatically performs the modeling process of cutting die-components,using die-design knowledge and the company's internal design and manufacturing standards.Experimental results show that this system significantly shortens the modeling-time for cutting the die-components,improves the modeling-quality,and enables the training of inexperienced designers.
文摘In this paper, a novel parametric model-based decomposition method is proposed for structural health monitoring of time-varying structures. The Fuzzy Expert System (FES) was used as a classification toot to demonstrate that the proposed method successfully identifies different structural conditions when compared with other methods based on non-reduced and ordinary feature extraction.

文摘Predicting the best shutdown time of a steam ethylene cracking furnace in industrial practice remains a challenge due to the complex coking process. The feasibility of the proposed model was further checked through industrial data and good agreements between model prediction and industrial data with maximum deviation 2% were observed.
文摘A new approach that models lift and drag hydrodynamic force signals operating over cylindrical structures was developed and validated. The evaluation of the lift force by the TARMAX model shows the model is successful in modeling the force from the surface elevation.
