Extending the charging voltage of LiCoO_(2)(LCO)is an ongoing and promising approach to increase its energy density.However,the main challenge of the approach lies in the insuperable cathodic interfacial processes at high voltage,which leads to rapid failure both in the performance and structure of the LCO cathode.Herein,a Li_(2)CO_(3)-based additive was prepared by a simple sand-milling method,enabling a low electrochemical decomposition voltage<4.6 V from commonly>4.8 V,stabilizing the interface of the LCO cathode at 4.6 V.The decomposition of Li_(2)CO_(3)provides extra Li^(+)and CO_(2)to supplement the Li consumption required in the initial irreversible interfacial reactions and rapidly form a uniform and stable cathode electrolyte interphase layer(less organic and more inorganic components)on the LCO cathode by reducing CO_(2).Thus,the phase transformation and the emergence of high-valent Co ions on the surface of LCO at 4.6 V high voltage were inhibited.Thanks to this,with 2%Li_(2)CO_(3)-based additive,the capacity retention of commercial LCO at a high voltage of 4.6 V at 0.5 C for 100 cycles was improved from 59.3%to 79.3%.This work improves the high-voltage stability of LCO and provides a new idea for realizing the high-voltage operation of batteries. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)Nb_(2)CT_(x)MXene hold great promise for biomedical applications due to their tunable surface chemistry and biocompatibility.However,their practical use requires long-term colloidal and oxidative stability.Here,we propose a tandem-type stabilization strategy combining antioxidant protection and macromolecular surface functionalization.Nb_(2)CT_(x)was first treated with L-ascorbic acid(LA)to suppress oxidation by binding to reactive edges,followed by modification with polyethylene glycol(PEG),poly-L-lysine(PLL),or polydopamine(PDA).This dual approach enhanced stability in biological media—phosphate-buffered saline(PBS)and Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium(DMEM)—while preserving non-cytotoxicity toward A375 and HaCaT skin cell lines across 0‒100 mg·L^(-1).Among the tested systems,LA/PEG and LA/PDAmodified MXenes maintained stable zeta potentials(-15 to-12 mV)and particle sizes for 72 h,whereas LA/PLL samples showed aggregation and charge loss.This tandem stabilization effectively prevents oxidation and aggregation without compromising biocompatibility,offering a versatile route for developing oxidation-resistant MXenes for biomedical and nanomedicine applications. 展开更多

TiNb_(2)O_(7)represents an up-and-coming anode material for fast-charging lithium-ion batteries,but its practicalities are severely impeded by slow transfer rates of ionic and electronic especially at the low-temperature conditions.Herein,we introduce crystallographic engineering to enhance structure stability and promote Li+diffusion kinetics of TiNb_(2)O_(7)(TNO).The density functional theory computation reveals that Ti^(4+)is replaced by Sb^(5+)and Nb^(5+)in crystal lattices,which can reduce the Li+diffusion impediment and improve electronic conductivity.Synchrotron radiation X-ray 3D nano-computed tomography and in situ X-ray diffraction measurement confirm the introduction of Sb/Nb alleviates volume expansion during lithiation and delithiation processes,contributing to enhancing structure stability.Extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra results verify that crystallographic engineering also increases short Nb-O bond length in TNO-Sb/Nb.Accordingly,the TNO-Sb/Nb anode delivers an outstanding capacity retention rate of 89.8%at 10 C after 700 cycles and excellent rate performance(140.4 mAh g^(−1) at 20 C).Even at−30℃,TNO-Sb/Nb anode delivers a capacity of 102.6 mAh g^(−1) with little capacity degeneration for 500 cycles.This work provides guidance for the design of fast-charging batteries at low-temperature condition. 展开更多

We used solidification/stabilization methods to remediate highly concentrated Zn^(2+)-contaminated soil.An industrial waste mixture of red mud,carbide slag,and phosphogypsum is combined with cement as the curing agent.The mixing ratios of the four materials are determined by comparing the strength,permeability coefficient,pH,and Zn^(2+)-leaching concentration of the solidified soil.Microscopic characteristics of the solidified uncontaminated soil and solidified Zn^(2+)-contaminated soil were observed using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.Furthermore,the heavy metals speciation in both pure cement and mixed-material solidified soil was examined,demonstrating the beneficial role of the mixed-type curing agent in stabilizing heavy metals.The research results indicate that Zn^(2+)degrade the strength of the solidified soil by up to 90%.The permeability coefficient,pH,and Zn^(2+)-leaching concentration of the solidified soil easily meet standard,especially with Zn^(2+)leaching concentration well below the environmental protection limit.Furthermore,most Zn^(2+)exists in forms with lower biological and chemical reactivity.Both the solidified Zn^(2+)-contaminated soil and uncontaminated soil resulted in the formation of hydrated products containing elements such as silicon,aluminum,calcium,and sulfur.Additionally,the solidified Zn^(2+)-contaminated soil produced zinc-containing compounds and a large amount of rod-shaped ettringite. 展开更多

Metal hydrides with high hydrogen density provide promising hydrogen storage paths for hydrogen transportation.However,the requirement of highly pure H_(2)for re-hydrogenation limits its wide application.Here,amorphous Al_(2)O_(3)shells(10 nm)were deposited on the surface of highly active hydrogen storage material particles(MgH_(2)-ZrTi)by atomic layer deposition to obtain MgH_(2)-ZrTi@Al_(2)O_(3),which have been demonstrated to be air stable with selective adsorption of H_(2)under a hydrogen atmosphere with different impurities(CH_(4),O_(2),N_(2),and CO_(2)).About 4.79 wt%H_(2)was adsorbed by MgH_(2)-ZrTi@10nmAl_(2)O_(3)at 75℃under 10%CH_(4)+90%H_(2)atmosphere within 3 h with no kinetic or density decay after 5 cycles(~100%capacity retention).Furthermore,about 4 wt%of H_(2)was absorbed by MgH_(2)-ZrTi@10nmAl_(2)O_(3)under 0.1%O_(2)+0.4%N_(2)+99.5%H_(2)and 0.1%CO_(2)+0.4%N_(2)+99.5%H_(2)atmospheres at 100℃within 0.5 h,respectively,demonstrating the selective hydrogen absorption of MgH_(2)-ZrTi@10nmAl_(2)O_(3)in both oxygen-containing and carbon dioxide-containing atmospheres hydrogen atmosphere.The absorption and desorption curves of MgH_(2)-ZrTi@10nmAl_(2)O_(3)with and without absorption in pure hydrogen and then in 21%O_(2)+79%N_(2)for 1 h were found to overlap,further confirming the successful shielding effect of Al_(2)O_(3)shells against O_(2)and N_(2).The MgH_(2)-ZrTi@10nmAl_(2)O_(3)has been demonstrated to be air stable and have excellent selective hydrogen absorption performance under the atmosphere with CH_(4),O_(2),N_(2),and CO_(2). 展开更多

Reinforcement of slopes using soil nailing can effectively improve slope stability, and it has been widely used in upgrading cut slopes. Based on the assumptions of stresses on the slip surface, a new method for analyzing the stability of a slope reinforced with soil nails was established in the limit equilibrium theory framework, by considering that slope sliding occurs owing to shear failure of the slip surface, which subjects to Mohr–Coulomb(M–C) strength criterion. Meanwhile, in order to easily analyze the stability of a soil nailed slope in actual engineering and facilitate optimum design of parameters for soil nailing, factor of safety(FOS) contour curve charts were drawn on the basis of the established linear proportional relationship between the spacing of soil nails and slope height, and the length of soil nails and slope height. Then, by analyzing and verifying the results obtained from classic examples, some conclusions can be got as follows: 1) The results obtained from the current method are close to those obtained from the traditional limit equilibrium methods, and the current method can provide a strict solution for the slope FOS as it satisfies all the static equilibrium conditions of a sliding body, thus confirming the feasibility of the current method; 2) The slope FOS contour curve charts can be used not only to reliably analyze the stability of a soil nailed slope, but also to design optimally the parameters of soil nailing for the slope with a certain safety requirement. 展开更多

Spinel phase is considered to be the optimal phase for stabilization of chromium in stainless steel slag.In order to restrain chromium leaching from slag for the effective environmental protection,Al2O3 was utilized for the modification treatment,and the effects on the enrichment and stabilization of chromium were investigated. The mineral phases and the existence state of chromium in slag with various Al2O3 contents at different basicities( w(CaO)/w(SiO2) were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy( SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction( XRD). The results showed that chromium mainly existed in the glass and spinel phases at basicity of 1. 0 and 1. 5. As the slag basicity increased to 2. 0,chromium was also found in periclase phase. Al2O3 in the stainless steel slag reacted with MgO and Cr2O3,which could generate the Al-rich Mg(CrxAl(1- x))2O4 solid solution. Moreover,the addition of Al2O3 was favorable to reduce the solubility of chromium oxide in liquid phase and suppress the precipitation of periclase phase. The experimental results demonstrated that Al2O3 modification has a positive influence on the enrichment and the stabilization of chromium in the stainless steel slag. 展开更多

Herein we report a systematical investigation on the promoting effect of the carbon chain length of the intercalated carboxylic anions on the COcapture performance of Mg-Al layer double hydroxides(LDHs).A series of organo-LDHs were successfully synthesized via co-precipitation and calcination-rehydration methods. All as-prepared samples were characterized by many techniques including XRD, ATR-FTIR, BET,and TGA. The XRD and ATR-FTIR studies indicated that organic anions were successfully intercalated into LDHs. The influence of some important parameters such as calcination temperature, adsorption temperature, and coating with(Li-Na-K)NOmolten salt was investigated. The results exhibited that when the number of carbon is greater than 10, the COcapture capacity steadily increased with the increase in carbon number. After coating with 55 mol%(Li-Na-K)NOmolten salt, the COuptake of LDH-C16 sample with high Mg/Al ratios can be increased up to 3.25 mmol/g. The COadsorption/desorption cycling stability was also studied using temperature swing adsorption, which showed a stable COcapture performance even after 22 cycles. Considering its high COcapture capacity and good cycling stability, this novel COadsorbent is very promising in the sorption-enhanced water gas shift(SEWGS) processes. 展开更多

Large amounts of carbon dioxide(CO2) should be injected in deep saline formations to mitigate climate change,implying geomechanical challenges that require further understanding.Pressure build-up induced by CO2injection will decrease the effective stresses and may affect fault stability.Geomechanical effects of overpressure induced by CO2injection either in the hanging wall or in the foot wall on fault stability are investigated.CO2injection in the presence of a low-permeable fault induces pressurization of the storage formation between the injection well and the fault.The low permeability of the fault hinders fluid flow across it and leads to smaller overpressure on the other side of the fault.This variability in the fluid pressure distribution gives rise to differential total stress changes around the fault that reduce its stability.Despite a significant pressure build-up induced by the fault,caprock stability around the injection well is not compromised and thus,CO2leakage across the caprock is unlikely to happen.The decrease in fault stability is similar regardless of the side of the fault where CO2is injected.Simulation results show that fault core permeability has a significant effect on fault stability,becoming less affected for high-permeable faults.An appropriate pressure management will allow storing large quantities of CO2without inducing fault reactivation. 展开更多

Zero or negative emissions of carbon dioxide(CO2)is the need of the times,as inexorable rising and alarming levels of CO2 in the atmosphere lead to global warming and severe climate change.The electrochemical CO2 reduction(eCO2R)to value‐added fuels and chemicals by using renewable electricity provides a cleaner and more sustainable route with economic benefits,in which the key is to develop clean and economical electrocatalysts.Carbon‐based catalyst materials possess desirable properties such as high offset potential for H2 evolution and chemical stability at the negative applied potential.Although it is still challenging to achieve highly efficient carbon‐based catalysts,considerable efforts have been devoted to overcoming the low selectivity,activity,and stability.Here,we summarize and discuss the recent progress in carbon‐based metal‐free catalysts including carbon nanotubes,carbon nanofibers,carbon nanoribbons,graphene,carbon nitride,and diamonds with an emphasis on their activity,product selectivity,and stability.In addition,the key challenges and future potential approaches for efficient eCO2R to low carbon‐based fuels are highlighted.For a good understanding of the whole history of the development of eCO2R,the CO2 reduction reactions,principles,and techniques including the role of electrolytes,electrochemical cell design and evaluation,product selectivity,and structural composition are also discussed.The metal/metal oxides decorated with carbon‐based electrocatalysts are also summarized.We aim to provide insights for further development of carbon‐based metal‐free electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction from the perspective of both fundamental understanding and technological applications in the future. 展开更多

FeS2/Fe composites were mechanochemically prepared with iron powder and pyrite for the stabilization of ferrite arsenate sludge(FAS).The effects of preparation parameters on stabilization performance were investigated.The results show that the optimum conditions are FeS2/Fe molar ratio of 5:5,milling time of 2 h,ball-to-material mass ratio of 15:1 and milling with stainless steel ball.Then,the composites were characterized by XRD,SEM,FTIR,etc.The physicochemical properties of FeS2/Fe mixture change dramatically,which is responsible for its excellent performance.Finally,the stabilization process of FAS was optimized.When the FAS is mixed with composites at mass ratio of 4:1 and milled for 30 min,the As leaching concentration of FAS can be reduced from 639.15 to 4.74 mg/L with the stabilization ratio of 99.2%. 展开更多

Roll motion of ships can be distinguished in two parts:an unavoidable part due to their natural movement while turning and an unwanted and avoidable part that is due to encounter with waves and rough seas in general.For the attenuation of the unwanted part of roll motion,ways have been developed such as addition of controllable fins and changes in shape.This paper investigates the effectiveness of augmenting the rudder used for rejecting part of the unwanted roll,while maintaining steering and course changing ability.For this purpose,a controller is designed,which acts through intentional superposition of fast,compared with course change,movements of rudder,in order to attenuate the high-frequency roll effects from encountering rough seas.The results obtained by simulation to exogenous disturbance support the conclusion that the roll stabilization for displacement can be effective at least when displacement hull vessels are considered.Moreover,robust stability and performance is verified for the proposed control scheme over the entire operating range of interest. 展开更多

First, a discrete-time 2-D T-S fuzzy model is proposed to represent the underlying nonlinear 2-D system. Second, new quadratic stabilization conditions are proposed by applying relaxed quadratic stabilization technique for 2-D case. Third, for sake of further reducing conservatism, new non-quadratic stabilization conditions are also proposed by applying a new parameter-dependent Lyapunov function, matrix transformation technique, and relaxed technique for the underlying discrete-time 2-D T-S fuzzy system. This paper presents a simultaneous H2/H∞ stabilization problem for the chemical reaction systems which can be modeled as a finite collection of subsystems. A single dynamic output feedback controller which simultaneously stabilizes the multiple subsystems and captures the mixed H2/H∞ control performance is designed. To ensure that the stability condition, the H2 characterization and the H∞ characterization can be enforced within a unified matrix inequality framework, a novel technique based on orthogonal complement space is developed. Within such a framework, the controller gain is parameterized by the introduction of a common free positive definite matrix, which is independent of the multiple Lyapunov matrices. An iterative linear matrix inequality (ILMI) algorithm using Matlab Yalmip toolbox is established to deal with the proposed framework. Simulation results of a typical chemical reaction system are exploited to show the validity of the proposed methodology. 展开更多

The optimum design of the highway excavation slope angle is one of the most important problems to the highway construction and to the slope improvement. The Dawu Section of Jingzhu (Beijing Zhuhai) Highway is taken as an example to illustrate the study method for excavation slope angle design. The analysis of the engineering condition from different angles with different factors shows that the stability of the slope is calculated by using residual pushing force and the Sarma method. Then the sensitive analysis of the slope stability is conducted by using residual pushing force method. Finally, the optimum angle of design is presented on the precondition of ensuring the whole stability of slope and the economic reasonability. The study results show that the most sensitive factors are the shear strength parameter and the seismic force, and that the optimum excavation slope angle is 60°. 展开更多

Automatic line reclosing schemes used in an extra-high-voltage power system is an economical and effective means to maintain transient stability. A novel method is proposed in the paper to adaptively optimize the automatic line reclosing time after a transient fault for enhancement of interconnected power system transient stability. Both the study on the transient energy over network and the structure-preserving multi-machines power system model illustrate that the excessive convergence of potential energy on the lines with a certain cutset deteriorate power system stability, and therefore, an optimum line reclosing strategy can be established by minimizing the change in transient potential energy distribution across a cutset lines in the vicinity of the faulty line as an optimization target, and the optimal reclosure time is set to the time of minimum line phase angle difference. Without any pre-determined knowledge, the method is adaptive to various power system operation modes and fault conditions, and easy to implement because only a limited number of data measured at one location on a tie-line linking sub-networks are required. Simulations have been performed with the OMIB(One Machine and Infinite Bus System) and a real inter-connected power system to verify the applicability of the method proposed. 展开更多
