The surge of vehicular content ...The emergence of self-driving technologies implies that a future vehicle will likely become an entertainment center that demands personalized multimedia contents with very high quality. The surge of vehicular content demand brings significant challenges for the fifth generation(5G) cellular communication network. To cope with the challenge of massive content delivery, previous studies suggested that the 5G mobile edge network should be designed to integrate communication, computing, and cache(3C) resources to enable advanced functionalities such as proactive content delivery and in-network caching. However, the fundamental benefits achievable by computing and caching in mobile communications networks are not yet properly understood. This paper proposes a novel theoretical framework to characterize the tradeoff among computing, cache, and communication resources required by the mobile edge network to fulfill the task of content delivery. Analytical and numerical results are obtained to characterize the 3C resource tradeoff curve. These results reveal key insights into the fundamental benefits of computing and caching in vehicular mobile content delivery networks.展开更多

An important question is then how ma...The air transportation network, one of the common multilayer complex systems, is composed of a collection of individual airlines, and each airline corresponds to a different layer. An important question is then how many airlines are really necessary to represent the optimal structure of a multilayer air transportation system. Here we take the Chinese air transportation network (CATN) as an example to explore the nature of multiplex systems through the procedure of network aggregation. Specifically, we propose a series of structural measures to characterize the CATN from the multilayered to the aggregated network level. We show how these measures evolve during the network aggregation process in which layers are gradually merged together and find that there is an evident structural transition that happened in the aggregated network with nine randomly chosen airlines merged, where the network features and construction cost of this network are almost equivalent to those of the present CATN with twenty-two airlines under this condition. These findings could shed some light on network structure optimization and management of the Chinese air transportation system.展开更多

They play an important role of enhancing and improving coverage and flexibility of safety monitoring systems.Regions prone to danger and environments after disasters in underground mines require saving and balancing energy consumption of nodes to prolong the lifespan of networks.Based on the structure of a tunnel,we present a Long Chain-type Wireless Sensor Network(LC-WSN)to monitor the safety of underground mine tunnels.We define the optimal transmission distance and the range of the key region and present an Energy Optimal Routing(EOR)algorithm for LC-WSN to balance the energy consumption of nodes and maximize the lifespan of networks.EOR constructs routing paths based on an optimal transmission distance and uses an energy balancing strategy in the key region.Simulation results show that the EOR algorithm extends the lifespan of a network,balances the energy consumption of nodes in the key region and effectively limits the length of routing paths,compared with similar algorithms.展开更多

An architecture for application-aware routing which can support dynamic quality of service( Qo S) in SDN networks is proposed. The applicationaware routing as a multi-constrained optimal path( MCOP) problem is proposed,where applications are treated as Qo S flow and best-effort flows. With the SDN controller applications,it is able to dynamically lead routing decisions based on application characteristics and requirements,leading to a better overall user experience and higher utilization of network resources. The simulation results show that the improvement of application-aware routing framework on discovering appropriate routes,which can provide Qo S guarantees for a specific application in SDN networks.展开更多
While operators have started deploying fourth generation(4G) wireless communication systems,which could provide up to1 Gbps downlink peak data rate,the improved system capacity is still insufficient to meet the drasti...While operators have started deploying fourth generation(4G) wireless communication systems,which could provide up to1 Gbps downlink peak data rate,the improved system capacity is still insufficient to meet the drastically increasing demand of mobile users over the next decade.The main causes of the above-mentioned phenomenon include the following two aspects:1) the growth rate of the network capacity is far below that of user's demand,and 2) the relatively deterministic wireless access network(WAN) architecture in the existing systems cannot accommodate the prominent increase of mobile traffic with space-time domain dynamics.In order to address the above-mentioned challenges,we investigate the time-spatial consistency architecture for the future WAN,whilst emphasizing the critical roles of some spectral-efficient techniques such as Massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO),full-duplex(FD)operation and heterogeneous networks(HetNets).Furthermore,the energy efficiency(EE)of the HetNets under the proposed architecture is also evaluated,showing that the proposed user-selected uplink power control algorithm outperforms the traditional stochastic-scheduling strategy in terms of both capacity and EE in a two-tier HetNet.The other critical issues,including the tidal effect,the temporal failure owing to the instantaneously increased traffic,and the network wide load-balancing problem,etc.,are also anticipated to be addressed in the proposed architecture.(Abstract)展开更多

Many technologies have emerged related with pervasive computing vision, which can give support for AAL. One of the most reliable approaches is based on wireless sensor networks(WSNs). In this paper, we propose a coverage-aware unequal clustering protocol with load separation(CUCPLS) for data gathering of AAL applications based on WSNs. Firstly, the coverage overlap factor for nodes is introduced that accounts for the degree of target nodes covered. In addition, to balance the intra-cluster and inter-cluster energy consumptions, different competition radiuses of CHs are computed theoretically in different rings, and smaller clusters are formed near the sink. Moreover, two CHs are selected in each cluster for load separation to alleviate the substantial energy consumption difference between a single CH and its member nodes. Furthermore, a backoff waiting time is adopted during the selection of the two CHs to reduce the number of control messages employed. Simulation results demonstrate that the CUCPLS not only can achieve better coverage performance, but also balance the energy consumption of a network and prolong network lifetime.展开更多
Co-word networks are constructed with author-provided keywords in academic publications and their relations of co-occurrence.As special form of scientific knowledge networks,they represent the cognitive structure of s...Co-word networks are constructed with author-provided keywords in academic publications and their relations of co-occurrence.As special form of scientific knowledge networks,they represent the cognitive structure of scientific literature.This paper analyzes the complex structure of a co-word network based on 8,190 author-provided keywords extracted from 3,651 papers in five Chinese core journals in the field of management science.Small-world and scale-free phenomena are found in this network.A large-scale co-word network graph,which consists of one major giant component and many small isolated components,has been generated with the GUESS software.The dynamic growth of keywords and keyword co-occurrence relationships are described with four new informetrics measures.The results indicate that existing concepts always serve as the intellectual base of new ideas as represented by keywords.展开更多

Employing clustering techniques in such networks can achieve balanced energy consumption of member nodes and prolong the network lifetimes.In classical clustering techniques, clustering and in-cluster data routes are usually separated into independent operations. Although separate considerations of these two issues simplify the system design, it is often the non-optimal lifetime expectancy for wireless sensor networks. This paper proposes an integral framework that integrates these two correlated items in an interactive entirety. For that,we develop the clustering problems using nonlinear programming. Evolution process of clustering is provided in simulations. Results show that our joint-design proposal reaches the near optimal match between member nodes and cluster heads.展开更多

Especially, appropriate network coding schemes are programmed for underlined networks. Considering the feature of strong node mobility in aviation communication networks, a hop-by-hop network coding algorithm based on ad hoc networks was proposed. Compared with COPE-like network coding algorithms, the proposed algorithm does not require overhearing from other nodes, which meets confidentiality requirements of aviation communication networks. Meanwhile, it does save resource consumption and promise less processing delay. To analyze the performance of the network coding algorithm in scalable networks with different traffic models, a typical network was built in a network simulator, through which receiving accuracy rate and receiving delay were both examined.The simulation results indicate that, by virtue of network coding, the proposed algorithm works well and improves performance significantly. More specifically, it has better performance in enhancing receiving accuracy rate and reducing receiving delay, as compared with any of the traditional networks without coding. It was applied to both symmetric and asymmetric traffic flows and, in particular, it achieves much better performance when the network scale becomes larger. Therefore, this algorithm has great potentials in large-scale multi-hop aviation communication networks.展开更多

In this paper, we provide an empirical study of the topology of smartphone supply chain network. The supply chain network is constructed using open online data. Our experimental results show that the smartphone supply chain network has small-world feature with scale-free degree distribution, in which a few high degree nodes play a key role in the function and can effectively reduce the communication cost. We also detect the community structure to find the basic functional unit. It shows that information communication between nodes is crucial to improve the resource utilization. We should pay attention to the global resource configuration for such electronic production management.展开更多

Besides, SDN also provides better Quality of Experience(QoE) for customers. However, the policy of the evolution from legacy networks to the SDNs overemphasizes the controllability of the network or TE while ignoring the customers' benefit. Standing in the customers' position, we propose an optimization scheme, named as Optimal Migration Schedule based on Customers' Benefit(OMSB), to produce an optimized migration schedule and maximize the benefit of customers. Not only the quality and quantity of paths availed by migration, but also the number of flows from the customers that can use these multi-paths are taken into consideration for the scheduling. We compare the OMSB with other six migration schemes in terms of the benefit of customers. Our results suggest that the sequence of the migration plays a vital role for customers, especially in the early stages of the network migration to the SDN.展开更多

Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is regarded as an efficient method to reduce the probability of confliction. In the intra-cluster part, the random color selection method is effective in reducing the retry times in an application. In the inter-cluster part, a quick assign algorithm and a dynamic maximum link algorithm are proposed to meet the quick networking or minimum frame size requirements. In the simulation, the dynamic maximum link algorithm produces higher reductions in the frame length than the quick assign algorithm. When the number of routers is 140, the total number of time slots is reduced by 25%. However, the first algorithm needs more control messages, and the average difference in the number of control messages is 3 410. Consequently, the dynamic maximum link algorithm is utilized for adjusting the link schedule to the minimum delay with a relatively high throughput rate, and the quick assign algorithm is utilized for speeding up the networking process.展开更多
In a Wireless Mesh Network(WMN),the convenience of a routing strategy strongly depends on the mobility of the intermediate nodes that compose the paths.Taking this behaviour into account,this paper presents a routing ...In a Wireless Mesh Network(WMN),the convenience of a routing strategy strongly depends on the mobility of the intermediate nodes that compose the paths.Taking this behaviour into account,this paper presents a routing scheme that works differently accordingly to the node mobility.In this sense,a proactive routing scheme is restricted to the backbone to promote the use of stable routes.Conversely,the reactive protocol is used for searching routes to or from a mobile destination.Both approaches are simultaneously implemented in the mesh nodes so that the routing protocols share routing information that optimises the network performance.Aimed at guaranteeing the IP compatibility,the combination of the two protocols in the core routers is carried out in the Medium Access Control(MAC)layer.In contrast to the operation in the IP layer where two routing protocols cannot work concurrently,the transfer of the routing tasks to the MAC layer enables the use of multiple independent forwarding tables.Simulation results show the advantage of the proposal in terms of packet losses and data delay.展开更多

Based on patent cooperation data,this study used a range of city network analysis approaches in order to explore the structure of the Chinese city network which is driven by technological knowledge flows.The results r...Based on patent cooperation data,this study used a range of city network analysis approaches in order to explore the structure of the Chinese city network which is driven by technological knowledge flows.The results revealed the spatial structure,composition structure,hierarchical structure,group structure,and control structure of Chinese city network,as well as its dynamic factors.The major findings are:1) the spatial pattern presents a diamond structure,in which Wuhan is the central city;2) although the invention patent knowledge network is the main part of the broader inter-city innovative cooperation network,it is weaker than the utility model patent;3) as the senior level cities,Beijing,Shanghai and the cities in the Zhujiang(Pearl) River Delta Region show a strong capability of both spreading and controlling technological knowledge;4) whilst a national technology alliance has preliminarily formed,regional alliances have not been adequately established;5) even though the cooperation level amongst weak connection cities is not high,such cities still play an important role in the network as a result of their location within ′structural holes′ in the network;and 6) the major driving forces facilitating inter-city technological cooperation are geographical proximity,hierarchical proximity and technological proximity.展开更多

文摘While operators have started deploying fourth generation(4G) wireless communication systems,which could provide up to1 Gbps downlink peak data rate,the improved system capacity is still insufficient to meet the drastically increasing demand of mobile users over the next decade.The main causes of the above-mentioned phenomenon include the following two aspects:1) the growth rate of the network capacity is far below that of user's demand,and 2) the relatively deterministic wireless access network(WAN) architecture in the existing systems cannot accommodate the prominent increase of mobile traffic with space-time domain dynamics.In order to address the above-mentioned challenges,we investigate the time-spatial consistency architecture for the future WAN,whilst emphasizing the critical roles of some spectral-efficient techniques such as Massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO),full-duplex(FD)operation and heterogeneous networks(HetNets).Furthermore,the energy efficiency(EE)of the HetNets under the proposed architecture is also evaluated,showing that the proposed user-selected uplink power control algorithm outperforms the traditional stochastic-scheduling strategy in terms of both capacity and EE in a two-tier HetNet.The other critical issues,including the tidal effect,the temporal failure owing to the instantaneously increased traffic,and the network wide load-balancing problem,etc.,are also anticipated to be addressed in the proposed architecture.(Abstract)

文摘Ambient Assisted Living(AAL) is becoming an important research field. Many technologies have emerged related with pervasive computing vision, which can give support for AAL. One of the most reliable approaches is based on wireless sensor networks(WSNs). In this paper, we propose a coverage-aware unequal clustering protocol with load separation(CUCPLS) for data gathering of AAL applications based on WSNs. Firstly, the coverage overlap factor for nodes is introduced that accounts for the degree of target nodes covered. In addition, to balance the intra-cluster and inter-cluster energy consumptions, different competition radiuses of CHs are computed theoretically in different rings, and smaller clusters are formed near the sink. Moreover, two CHs are selected in each cluster for load separation to alleviate the substantial energy consumption difference between a single CH and its member nodes. Furthermore, a backoff waiting time is adopted during the selection of the two CHs to reduce the number of control messages employed. Simulation results demonstrate that the CUCPLS not only can achieve better coverage performance, but also balance the energy consumption of a network and prolong network lifetime.

文摘Co-word networks are constructed with author-provided keywords in academic publications and their relations of co-occurrence.As special form of scientific knowledge networks,they represent the cognitive structure of scientific literature.This paper analyzes the complex structure of a co-word network based on 8,190 author-provided keywords extracted from 3,651 papers in five Chinese core journals in the field of management science.Small-world and scale-free phenomena are found in this network.A large-scale co-word network graph,which consists of one major giant component and many small isolated components,has been generated with the GUESS software.The dynamic growth of keywords and keyword co-occurrence relationships are described with four new informetrics measures.The results indicate that existing concepts always serve as the intellectual base of new ideas as represented by keywords.

文摘A heterogeneous wireless sensor network comprises a number of inexpensive energy constrained wireless sensor nodes which collect data from the sensing environment and transmit them toward the improved cluster head in a coordinated way. Employing clustering techniques in such networks can achieve balanced energy consumption of member nodes and prolong the network lifetimes.In classical clustering techniques, clustering and in-cluster data routes are usually separated into independent operations. Although separate considerations of these two issues simplify the system design, it is often the non-optimal lifetime expectancy for wireless sensor networks. This paper proposes an integral framework that integrates these two correlated items in an interactive entirety. For that,we develop the clustering problems using nonlinear programming. Evolution process of clustering is provided in simulations. Results show that our joint-design proposal reaches the near optimal match between member nodes and cluster heads.

文摘Network coding is proved to have advantages in both wireline and wireless networks. Especially, appropriate network coding schemes are programmed for underlined networks. Considering the feature of strong node mobility in aviation communication networks, a hop-by-hop network coding algorithm based on ad hoc networks was proposed. Compared with COPE-like network coding algorithms, the proposed algorithm does not require overhearing from other nodes, which meets confidentiality requirements of aviation communication networks. Meanwhile, it does save resource consumption and promise less processing delay. To analyze the performance of the network coding algorithm in scalable networks with different traffic models, a typical network was built in a network simulator, through which receiving accuracy rate and receiving delay were both examined.The simulation results indicate that, by virtue of network coding, the proposed algorithm works well and improves performance significantly. More specifically, it has better performance in enhancing receiving accuracy rate and reducing receiving delay, as compared with any of the traditional networks without coding. It was applied to both symmetric and asymmetric traffic flows and, in particular, it achieves much better performance when the network scale becomes larger. Therefore, this algorithm has great potentials in large-scale multi-hop aviation communication networks.

文摘The industrial supply chain networks basically capture the circulation of social resource, dominating the stability and efficiency of the industrial system. In this paper, we provide an empirical study of the topology of smartphone supply chain network. The supply chain network is constructed using open online data. Our experimental results show that the smartphone supply chain network has small-world feature with scale-free degree distribution, in which a few high degree nodes play a key role in the function and can effectively reduce the communication cost. We also detect the community structure to find the basic functional unit. It shows that information communication between nodes is crucial to improve the resource utilization. We should pay attention to the global resource configuration for such electronic production management.

文摘Software Defined Networking(SDN) provides a flexible and convenient way to support fine-grained traffic-engineering(TE). Besides, SDN also provides better Quality of Experience(QoE) for customers. However, the policy of the evolution from legacy networks to the SDNs overemphasizes the controllability of the network or TE while ignoring the customers' benefit. Standing in the customers' position, we propose an optimization scheme, named as Optimal Migration Schedule based on Customers' Benefit(OMSB), to produce an optimized migration schedule and maximize the benefit of customers. Not only the quality and quantity of paths availed by migration, but also the number of flows from the customers that can use these multi-paths are taken into consideration for the scheduling. We compare the OMSB with other six migration schemes in terms of the benefit of customers. Our results suggest that the sequence of the migration plays a vital role for customers, especially in the early stages of the network migration to the SDN.

文摘In this paper,a dynamic flow-regulation algorithm-oriented network overload control is proposed.It can proportion-ally distribute the load between the high-degree nodes and the low-degree nodes.According to the theoretical analysis,the net-work transmission performance of the proposed algorithm is in inverse proportion to the usage rate of the high-degree nodes.Simulations show that the new algorithm is more flexible and can enhance the network capability in most circumstances compared with the shortest path routing algorithm.Moreover,the compari-son with the efficient routing algorism also reveals the prominent performance of the new algorithm.

文摘Industrial wireless sensor networks adopt a hierarchical structure with large numbers of sensors and routers. Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is regarded as an efficient method to reduce the probability of confliction. In the intra-cluster part, the random color selection method is effective in reducing the retry times in an application. In the inter-cluster part, a quick assign algorithm and a dynamic maximum link algorithm are proposed to meet the quick networking or minimum frame size requirements. In the simulation, the dynamic maximum link algorithm produces higher reductions in the frame length than the quick assign algorithm. When the number of routers is 140, the total number of time slots is reduced by 25%. However, the first algorithm needs more control messages, and the average difference in the number of control messages is 3 410. Consequently, the dynamic maximum link algorithm is utilized for adjusting the link schedule to the minimum delay with a relatively high throughput rate, and the quick assign algorithm is utilized for speeding up the networking process.
文摘In a Wireless Mesh Network(WMN),the convenience of a routing strategy strongly depends on the mobility of the intermediate nodes that compose the paths.Taking this behaviour into account,this paper presents a routing scheme that works differently accordingly to the node mobility.In this sense,a proactive routing scheme is restricted to the backbone to promote the use of stable routes.Conversely,the reactive protocol is used for searching routes to or from a mobile destination.Both approaches are simultaneously implemented in the mesh nodes so that the routing protocols share routing information that optimises the network performance.Aimed at guaranteeing the IP compatibility,the combination of the two protocols in the core routers is carried out in the Medium Access Control(MAC)layer.In contrast to the operation in the IP layer where two routing protocols cannot work concurrently,the transfer of the routing tasks to the MAC layer enables the use of multiple independent forwarding tables.Simulation results show the advantage of the proposal in terms of packet losses and data delay.
文摘As new generation mobile networks, 3G networks focus on data services and integrate voice, data and multimedia services. However, traditional Optical Transport Networks (OTNs) cannot meet the requirements of 3G networks anymore, because of their complicated configuration, low bandwidth efficiency, high cost, and bad network and service scalability. The emerging of Multi-Service Transport Platform (MSTP), Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), and Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) technologies for optical fiber communications makes up for these weaknesses. The leading solution to 3G access transport networks is the MSTP technology based on Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), while that to 3G core transport network is ASON+WDM.
文摘The High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology is employed for the data service in the Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) mobile communication system.Theoretically,the HSDPA peak data throughput per Time Slot (TS) available in the terminals reaches 560kb/s.Since the data service often occurs indoors,flexible TS allocation between uplink and downlink is applied in TD-SCDMA networking.That is,TS1 and TS2 are uplink time slots and TS3,TS4,TS5 and TS6 are downlink time slots in the indoor cell;and symmetry TS allocation is made for the outdoor cell.In the intra-frequency cell network,it can cause intra-frequency interference between cells.So the research on the intra-frequency crossed time slots interference is done and the suggestions on the intra-frequency crossed time slots networking strategy are proposed in this paper.

文摘Based on patent cooperation data,this study used a range of city network analysis approaches in order to explore the structure of the Chinese city network which is driven by technological knowledge flows.The results revealed the spatial structure,composition structure,hierarchical structure,group structure,and control structure of Chinese city network,as well as its dynamic factors.The major findings are:1) the spatial pattern presents a diamond structure,in which Wuhan is the central city;2) although the invention patent knowledge network is the main part of the broader inter-city innovative cooperation network,it is weaker than the utility model patent;3) as the senior level cities,Beijing,Shanghai and the cities in the Zhujiang(Pearl) River Delta Region show a strong capability of both spreading and controlling technological knowledge;4) whilst a national technology alliance has preliminarily formed,regional alliances have not been adequately established;5) even though the cooperation level amongst weak connection cities is not high,such cities still play an important role in the network as a result of their location within ′structural holes′ in the network;and 6) the major driving forces facilitating inter-city technological cooperation are geographical proximity,hierarchical proximity and technological proximity.
