The construction of“park cities”requires a systematic thinking to coordinate the networked development of park system and break through the limitation of emphasizing scale and grade and neglecting dynamic correlation in traditional planning.Taking Haidian District of Beijing as an example, the social network analysis method is introduced to construct the network model of park green spaces.Through indicators such as clustering coefficient, network density and node centrality, the characteristics of its spatial structure and hierarchical relationship are analyzed. It is found that the network integrity presents the characteristics of“highly local concentration and global fragmentation”,fragmented park green space network and missing spatial connection, isolated clusters and collaborative failure,as well as the spatial mismatch between population and resource supply and demand.Hierarchical issues include“structural imbalance and functional disorder”,disorder between network hierarchy and park level, misalignment of functional hierarchy leading to weakened network risk resistance capacity, and a relatively dense distribution of core nodes, etc. In response to the above problems,a multi-level spatial intervention strategy should be adopted to solve the overall problem of the network.Meanwhile,it is needed to clarify the positioning of a park itself and improve the hierarchical system,so as to construct a multi-level and multi-scale park green space network, contribute to the construction of a park city, and provide residents with more diverse activity venues. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Depression and anxiety are prevalent psychological challenges among patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS),affecting individuals across both sex and age groups.AIM To explore the network structure of depression and anxiety symptoms, with a focus on identifying differences at the symptom level between sex and age subgroups.METHODS A total of 1955 participants diagnosed with AIS aged 10-18 years were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire Depression Scale(PHO-9)and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale(GAD-7),and 765 patients exhibiting PHQ-9 or GAD-7 scores ≥ 5 were enrolled in our study. Network analysis and network comparison tests were utilized toconstruct and compare the depression-anxiety symptoms networks among sex and age subgroups.RESULTSThe results revealed GAD3 “Excessive worry” and PHQ2 “Sad mood” were the most significant central symptomsin all subgroups, while “Sad mood” had higher strength than “Excessive worry” in the lower age group. In thenetwork comparisons, the female network exhibited tighter connectivity, especially on GAD6 “Irritability” andGAD2 “Uncontrollable worry”, while only PHQ3 “Sleep” and PHQ9 “Suicidal ideation” had differences at thelocal level in the lower age group.CONCLUSIONSeveral interventions targeting excessive worry and sad mood could reduce the risk of depression and anxietysymptoms in the AIS population. Furthermore, specific anxiety symptoms in females, along with sleep disturbancesand suicidal ideation in the lower age group, should be addressed at an early stage to prevent significantdisruptions in mental health trajectories. 展开更多

Immune changes and inflammatory responses have been identified as central events in the pathological process of spinal co rd injury. They can greatly affect nerve regeneration and functional recovery. However, there is still limited understanding of the peripheral immune inflammato ry response in spinal cord inju ry.In this study.we obtained microRNA expression profiles from the peripheral blood of patients with spinal co rd injury using high-throughput sequencing. We also obtained the mRNA expression profile of spinal cord injury patients from the Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO)database(GSE151371).We identified 54 differentially expressed microRNAs and 1656 diffe rentially expressed genes using bioinformatics approaches.Functional enrichment analysis revealed that various common immune and inflammation-related signaling pathways, such as neutrophil extracellular trap formation pathway,T cell receptor signaling pathway, and nuclear factor-κB signal pathway,we re abnormally activated or inhibited in spinal cord inju ry patient samples. We applied an integrated strategy that combines weighted gene co-expression network analysis,LASSO logistic regression, and SVM-RFE algorithm and identified three biomarke rs associated with spinal cord injury:ANO10,BST1,and ZFP36L2.We verified the expression levels and diagnostic perfo rmance of these three genes in the original training dataset and clinical samples through the receiver operating characteristic curve.Quantitative polymerase chain reaction results showed that ANO20 and BST1 mRNA levels were increased and ZFP36L2 mRNA was decreased in the peripheral blood of spinal cord injury patients. We also constructed a small RNA-mRNA interaction network using Cytoscape.Additionally,we evaluated the proportion of 22 types of immune cells in the peripheral blood of spinal co rd injury patients using the CIBERSORT tool. The proportions of naive B cells, plasma cells, monocytes, and neutrophils were increased while the proportions of memory B cells,CD8^(+)T cells, resting natural killer cells, resting dendritic cells, and eosinophils were markedly decreased in spinal cord injury patients increased compared with healthy subjects, and ANO10,BST1 and ZFP26L2we re closely related to the proportion of certain immune cell types. The findings from this study provide new directions for the development of treatment strategies related to immune inflammation in spinal co rd inju ry and suggest that ANO10,BST2,and ZFP36L2 are potential biomarkers for spinal cord injury. The study was registe red in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(registration No.ChiCTR2200066985,December 12,2022). 展开更多

Purpose:We analyzed the structure of a community of authors working in the field of social network analysis(SNA)based on citation indicators:direct citation and bibliographic coupling metrics. We observed patterns at the micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis.Design/methodology/approach:We used bibliometric network analysis, including the“temporal quantities”approach proposed to study temporal networks.Using a two-mode network linking publications with authors and a one-mode network of citations between the works,we constructed and analyzed the networks of citation and bibliographic coupling among authors. We used an iterated saturation data collection approach.Findings:At the macro-level,we observed the global structural features of citations between authors, showing that 80%of authors have not more than 15 citations from other works. At the meso-level,we extracted the groups of authors citing each other and similar to each other according to their citation patterns. We have seen a division of authors in SNA into groups of social scientists and physicists,as well as into other groups of authors from different disciplines. We found some examples of brokerage between different groups that maintained the common identity of the field. At the micro-level,we extracted authors with extremely high values of received citations, who can be considered as the most prominent authors in the field. We examined the temporal properties of the most popular authors.Research limitations:The main challenge in this approach is the resolution of the author’s name(synonyms and homonyms). We faced the author disambiguation,or“multiple personalities”(Harzing,2015)problem.To remain consistent and comparable with our previously published articles,we used the same SNA data collected up to 2018.The analysis and conclusions on the activity, productivity, and visibility of the authors are relative only to the field of SNA.Practical implications:The proposed approach can be utilized for similar objectives and identifying key structures and characteristics in other disciplines. This may potentially inspire the application of network approaches in other research areas, creating more authors collaborating in the field of SNA.Originality/value:We identified and applied an innovative approach and methods to study the structure of scientific communities, which allowed us to get the findings going beyond those obtained with other methods. We used a new approach to temporal network analysis, which is an important addition to the analysis as it provides detailed information on different measures for the authors and pairs of authors over time. 展开更多

If progress is to be made toward improving geohazard management and emergency decision-making,then lessons need to be learned from past geohazard information.A geologic hazard report provides a useful and reliable source of information about the occurrence of an event, along with detailed information about the condition or factors of the geohazard.Analyzing such reports, however, can be a challenging process because these texts are often presented in unstructured long text formats, and contain rich specialized and detailed information.Automatically text classification is commonly used to mine disaster text data in open domains(e.g.,news and microblogs). But it has limitations to performing contextual long-distance dependencies and is insensitive to discourse order. These deficiencies are most obviously exposed in long text fields. Therefore, this paper uses the bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers(BERT),to model long text. Then, utilizing a softmax layer to automatically extract text features and classify geohazards without manual features. The latent Dirichlet allocation(LDA)model is used to examine the interdependencies that exist between causal variables to visualize geohazards. The proposed method is useful in enabling the machine-assisted interpretation of text-based geohazards. Moreover,it can help users visualize causes, processes, and other geohazards and assist decision-makers in emergency responses. 展开更多

Research in Information Science and interdisciplinary areas suggested the formation of a growing network of international research collaboration. The massive transmission of COVID-19 worldwide especially after the identification of the Omicron variant could fundamentally alter the factors shaping the network's development. This study employs network analysis methods to analyze the structure of the COVID-19 research collaboration from 2020 to 2022,using two major academic publication databases and the VOSviewer software.A novel temporal view is added by examining the dynamic changes of the network, and a fractional counting method is adopted as methodological improvements to previous research.Analysis reveals that the COVID-19 research network structure has undergone substantial changes over time,as collaborating countries and regions form and re-form new clusters.Transformations in the network can be partly explained by key developments in the pandemic and other social-political events.China as one of the largest pivots in the network formed a relatively distinct cluster, with potential to develop a larger Asia-Pacific collaboration cluster based on its research impact. 展开更多

China has the largest high-speed railway(HSR) system in the world, and it has gradually reshaped the urban network. The HSR system can be represented as different types of networks in terms of the nodes and various relationships(i.e.,linkages) between them. In this paper, we first introduce a general dual network model, including a physical network(PN)and a logical network(LN) to provide a comparative analysis for China’s high-speed rail network via complex network theory. The PN represents a layout of stations and rail tracks, and forms the basis for operating all trains. The LN is a network composed of the origin and destination stations of each high-speed train and the train flows between them. China’s high-speed railway(CHSR) has different topological structures and link strengths for PN in comparison with the LN. In the study, the community detection is used to analyze China’s high-speed rail networks and several communities are found to be similar to the layout of planned urban agglomerations in China. Furthermore, the hierarchies of urban agglomerations are different from each other according to the strength of inter-regional interaction and intra-regional interaction, which are respectively related to location and spatial development strategies. Moreover, a case study of the Yangtze River Delta shows that the hub stations have different resource divisions and are major contributors to the gap between train departure and arrival flows. 展开更多

It is of great significance to optimize the spatial matching of basic education facilities in rural areas and promote the equalization of urban and rural basic public services and the overall revitalization of rural areas.Based on the theory of spatial accessibility and spatial balance of supply and demand, this paper constructs the evaluation system of rural basic education facilities and layout rationality. In this study,we took 42 primary and secondary schools and 2089 rural areas with concentrated population in six township areas of Hancheng City as the research subjects. We used ArcGIS network analysis, population coupling model, and other methods, from the administrative scale and rural population concentration area scale for evaluation. The accessibility of basic education facilities and its coupling relationship with the spatial distribution of student population describe the spatial and geographical pattern of basic education facilities in rural areas. The results show that the accessibility of rural administrative scale and the spatial balance of supply and demand of population concentration area scale are associated with great problems, the differences between towns are obvious, and the overall level of the best performing towns is still low.On the scale of population concentration area, the overall coupling degree is too low, the"dislocation"distribution of educational facilities and student population is obvious, and the matching degree of the student population and school in different towns is significantly different, showing a more obvious"core-periphery"spatial structure characteristics centered on the eastern and southeast regions. The terrain characteristics of rural areas in Shaanxi province are prominent, and the accessibility of the road network is particularly significant. Therefore, optimizing the construction of rural roads and optimizing school layout according to local conditions will become an important solution to promote the balanced allocation of basic education resources in Shaanxi province. 展开更多

This paper presents a spatial analysis of weather data from ten stations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) using myGeoffice©, a web-based Geographical Information System (GIS) tool. This study investigates patterns in rainfall, station connectivity, and the impact of various factors on rainfall prediction. Cluster analysis was applied to classify regions based on rainfall patterns, and algorithms such as Dijkstra’s shortest path and Kruskal’s minimum spanning tree were used to evaluate connectivity among stations. Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) was employed to model the effects of temperature, humidity, and wind on rainfall. The results indicate that temperature is the dominant factor negatively affecting rainfall, with variations observed across different locations. The study also uses probabilistic models, such as Binomial and Poisson distributions, to predict the likelihood of rainfall and flood occurrences. Overall, the analysis demonstrates the utility of GIS statistical methods in uncovering spatial weather patterns to support more informed decision-making in weather-related studies for the UAE. 展开更多

This study uses complex network analysis to investigate global stock market co-movement during the black swan event of the Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.We propose a novel method for calculating stock price index correlations based on open-high-low-close(OHLC)data.More intraday information can be utilized compared with the widely used return-based method.Hypothesis testing was used to select the edges incorporated in the network to avoid a rigid setting of the artificial threshold. The topologies of the global stock market complex network constructed using 70 important global stock price indices before(2017-2019)and after(2020-2022)the COVID-19 outbreak were examined. The evidence shows that the degree centrality of the OHLC data-based global stock price index complex network has better power-law distribution characteristics than a return-based network. The global stock market co-movement characteristics are revealed, and the financial centers of the developed, emerging, and frontier markets are identified.Using centrality indicators,we also illustrate changes in the importance of individual stock price indices during the COVID-19 pandemic.Based on these findings,we provide suggestions for investors and policy regulators to improve their international portfolios and strengthen their national financial risk preparedness. 展开更多

Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor, whose pathogenesis and prognosis factors are not fully understood. This study aimed to discover the gene clusters that have similar functions and can be used to predict the prognosis of esophageal cancer. The matched microarray and RNA sequencing data of 185 patients with esophageal cancer were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA), and gene co-expression networks were built without distinguishing between squamous carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. The result showed that 12 modules were associated with one or more survival data such as recurrence status, recurrence time, vital status or vital time. Furthermore, survival analysis showed that 5 out of the 12 modules were related to progression-free survival(PFS) or overall survival(OS). As the most important module, the midnight blue module with 82 genes was related to PFS, apart from the patient age, tumor grade, primary treatment success, and duration of smoking and tumor histological type. Gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that 'glycoprotein binding' was the top enriched function of midnight blue module genes. Additionally, the blue module was the exclusive gene clusters related to OS. Platelet activating factor receptor(PTAFR) and feline Gardner-Rasheed(FGR) were the top hub genes in both modeling datasets and the STRING protein interaction database. In conclusion, our study provides novel insights into the prognosis-associated genes and screens out candidate biomarkers for esophageal cancer. 展开更多

In developing Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs),the available dataset is split into three categories:training, validation and testing. However,an important problem arises:How to trust the predic-tion provided by a particular ANN?Due to the randomness related to the network itself(architecture, initialization and learning procedure),there is usually no best choice.Considering this issue,we provide a framework, which captures the randomness related to the network itself. The idea is to perform several training and test trials based on the Jackknife resampling method.Jackknife consists of iteratively deleting a single observation each time from the sample and recomputing the ANN on the rest of the sample data.Consequently, interval prediction is available instead of point prediction. The proposed method was applied and tested using pH,Ca and P data obtained by analyzing 118 georeferenced soil points. The results, based on the dataset size simulation, showed that 60%reduction in available dataset offers compatible accuracy in relation to full dataset, and therefore a higher cost of sampling in the field would not be necessary. The re-sampling method spatially characterizes the points of greater or lesser accuracy and uncertainty. The re-sampling method increased the success rate by using interval prediction instead of using the mean as the most probable value.Although we restrict it to the regression neural network model, the resampling method proposed can also be extended to other modern statistical tools, such as Kriging,Least Squares Collocation(LSC),Convolutional Neural Network(CNN),and so on. 展开更多
