AMTS:Adaptive Multi-Objective Task Scheduling Strategy in Cloud Computing

Task scheduling in cloud computing environments is a multi-objective optimization problem, which is NP hard. It is also a challenging problem to find an appropriate trade-off among resource utilization, energy consumption and Quality of Service(QoS) requirements under the changing environment and diverse tasks. Considering both processing time and transmission time, a PSO-based Adaptive Multi-objective Task Scheduling(AMTS) Strategy is proposed in this paper. First, the task scheduling problem is formulated. Then, a task scheduling policy is advanced to get the optimal resource utilization, task completion time, average cost and average energy consumption. In order to maintain the particle diversity, the adaptive acceleration coefficient is adopted. Experimental results show that the improved PSO algorithm can obtain quasi-optimal solutions for the cloud task scheduling problem. 展开更多

Intelligent production is an important development direction in intelligent manufacturing,with intelligent factories playing a crucial role in promoting intelligent production.Flexible job shops,as the main form of intelligent factories,constantly face dynamic disturbances during the production process,including machine failures and urgent orders.This paper discusses the basic models and research methods of job shop scheduling,emphasizing the important role of dynamic job shop scheduling and its response schemes in future research.A multi-objective flexible job shop dynamic scheduling mathematical model is established,highlighting its complex and multi-constraint characteristics under different interferences.A classification discussion is conducted on the dynamic response methods and optimization objectives under machine failures,emergency orders,fuzzy completion times,and mixed dynamic events.The development process of traditional scheduling rules and intelligent methods in dynamic scheduling are also analyzed.Finally,based on the current development status of job shop scheduling and the requirements of intelligent manufacturing,the future development trends of dynamic scheduling in flexible job shops are proposed. 展开更多

The intermittency and volatility of wind and photovoltaic power generation exacerbate issues such as wind and solar curtailment,hindering the efficient utilization of renewable energy and the low-carbon development of energy systems.To enhance the consumption capacity of green power,the green power system consumption optimization scheduling model(GPS-COSM)is proposed,which comprehensively integrates green power system,electric boiler,combined heat and power unit,thermal energy storage,and electrical energy storage.The optimization objectives are to minimize operating cost,minimize carbon emission,and maximize the consumption of wind and solar curtailment.The multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm is employed to solve the model,and a fuzzy membership function is introduced to evaluate the satisfaction level of the Pareto optimal solution set,thereby selecting the optimal compromise solution to achieve a dynamic balance among economic efficiency,environmental friendliness,and energy utilization efficiency.Three typical operating modes are designed for comparative analysis.The results demonstrate that the mode involving the coordinated operation of electric boiler,thermal energy storage,and electrical energy storage performs the best in terms of economic efficiency,environmental friendliness,and renewable energy utilization efficiency,achieving the wind and solar curtailment consumption rate of 99.58%.The application of electric boiler significantly enhances the direct accommodation capacity of the green power system.Thermal energy storage optimizes intertemporal regulation,while electrical energy storage strengthens the system’s dynamic regulation capability.The coordinated optimization of multiple devices significantly reduces reliance on fossil fuels. 展开更多

This paper investigates a distributed heterogeneous hybrid blocking flow-shop scheduling problem(DHHBFSP)designed to minimize the total tardiness and total energy consumption simultaneously,and proposes an improved proximal policy optimization(IPPO)method to make real-time decisions for the DHHBFSP.A multi-objective Markov decision process is modeled for the DHHBFSP,where the reward function is represented by a vector with dynamic weights instead of the common objectiverelated scalar value.A factory agent(FA)is formulated for each factory to select unscheduled jobs and is trained by the proposed IPPO to improve the decision quality.Multiple FAs work asynchronously to allocate jobs that arrive randomly at the shop.A two-stage training strategy is introduced in the IPPO,which learns from both single-and dual-policy data for better data utilization.The proposed IPPO is tested on randomly generated instances and compared with variants of the basic proximal policy optimization(PPO),dispatch rules,multi-objective metaheuristics,and multi-agent reinforcement learning methods.Extensive experimental results suggest that the proposed strategies offer significant improvements to the basic PPO,and the proposed IPPO outperforms the state-of-the-art scheduling methods in both convergence and solution quality. 展开更多

To solve the multi-objective FJSP, the Grantt graph oriented string representation (GOSR) and the basic manipulation of the genetic algorithm operator are presented. An integrated operator genetic algorithm (IOGA) and its process are described. Comparison between computational results and the latest research shows that the proposed algorithm is effective in reducing the total workload of all machines, the makespan and the critical machine workload. 展开更多

Recently,one of the main challenges facing the smart grid is insufficient computing resources and intermittent energy supply for various distributed components(such as monitoring systems for renewable energy power stations).To solve the problem,we propose an energy harvesting based task scheduling and resource management framework to provide robust and low-cost edge computing services for smart grid.First,we formulate an energy consumption minimization problem with regard to task offloading,time switching,and resource allocation for mobile devices,which can be decoupled and transformed into a typical knapsack problem.Then,solutions are derived by two different algorithms.Furthermore,we deploy renewable energy and energy storage units at edge servers to tackle intermittency and instability problems.Finally,we design an energy management algorithm based on sampling average approximation for edge computing servers to derive the optimal charging/discharging strategies,number of energy storage units,and renewable energy utilization.The simulation results show the efficiency and superiority of our proposed framework. 展开更多

Due to the intense data flow in expanding Internet of Things(IoT)applications,a heavy processing cost and workload on the fog-cloud side become inevitable.One of the most critical challenges is optimal task scheduling.Since this is an NP-hard problem type,a metaheuristic approach can be a good option.This study introduces a novel enhancement to the Artificial Rabbits Optimization(ARO)algorithm by integrating Chaotic maps and Levy flight strategies(CLARO).This dual approach addresses the limitations of standard ARO in terms of population diversity and convergence speed.It is designed for task scheduling in fog-cloud environments,optimizing energy consumption,makespan,and execution time simultaneously three critical parameters often treated individually in prior works.Unlike conventional single-objective methods,the proposed approach incorporates a multi-objective fitness function that dynamically adjusts the weight of each parameter,resulting in better resource allocation and load balancing.In analysis,a real-world dataset,the Open-source Google Cloud Jobs Dataset(GoCJ_Dataset),is used for performance measurement,and analyses are performed on three considered parameters.Comparisons are applied with well-known algorithms:GWO,SCSO,PSO,WOA,and ARO to indicate the reliability of the proposed method.In this regard,performance evaluation is performed by assigning these tasks to Virtual Machines(VMs)in the resource pool.Simulations are performed on 90 base cases and 30 scenarios for each evaluation parameter.The results indicated that the proposed algorithm achieved the best makespan performance in 80% of cases,ranked first in execution time in 61%of cases,and performed best in the final parameter in 69% of cases.In addition,according to the obtained results based on the defined fitness function,the proposed method(CLARO)is 2.52%better than ARO,3.95%better than SCSO,5.06%better than GWO,8.15%better than PSO,and 9.41%better than WOA. 展开更多

With the rapid advancement of satellite communication technologies,space information networks(SINs)have become essential infrastructure for complex service delivery and cross-domain task coordination,facilitating the transition toward an intent-driven task-oriented coordination paradigm across the space,ground,and user segments.This study presents a novel intent-driven task-oriented network(IDTN)framework to address task scheduling and resource allocation challenges in SINs.The scheduling problem is formulated as a three-sided matching game that incorporates the preference attributes of entities across all network segments.To manage the variability of random task arrivals and dynamic resources,a context-aware linear upper-confidence-bound online learning mechanism is integrated to reduce decision-making uncertainty.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IDTN framework.Compared with conventional baseline methods,the framework achieves significant performance improvements,including a 4.4%-28.9%increase in average system reward,a 6.2%-34.5%improvement in resource utilization,and a 5.6%-35.7%enhancement in user satisfaction.The proposed framework is expected to facilitate the integration and orchestration of space-based platforms. 展开更多

The widespread adoption of cloud computing has underscored the critical importance of efficient resource allocation and management, particularly in task scheduling, which involves assigning tasks to computing resources for optimized resource utilization. Several meta-heuristic algorithms have shown effectiveness in task scheduling, among which the relatively recent Willow Catkin Optimization (WCO) algorithm has demonstrated potential, albeit with apparent needs for enhanced global search capability and convergence speed. To address these limitations of WCO in cloud computing task scheduling, this paper introduces an improved version termed the Advanced Willow Catkin Optimization (AWCO) algorithm. AWCO enhances the algorithm’s performance by augmenting its global search capability through a quasi-opposition-based learning strategy and accelerating its convergence speed via sinusoidal mapping. A comprehensive evaluation utilizing the CEC2014 benchmark suite, comprising 30 test functions, demonstrates that AWCO achieves superior optimization outcomes, surpassing conventional WCO and a range of established meta-heuristics. The proposed algorithm also considers trade-offs among the cost, makespan, and load balancing objectives. Experimental results of AWCO are compared with those obtained using the other meta-heuristics, illustrating that the proposed algorithm provides superior performance in task scheduling. The method offers a robust foundation for enhancing the utilization of cloud computing resources in the domain of task scheduling within a cloud computing environment. 展开更多

However, the complexity and uncertainty of the scheduling problem severely limit algorithms. To bypass this circumvent, numerous algorithms have been proposed. The Hiking Optimization Algorithm (HOA) have been used in multiple fields. However, HOA suffers from local optimization, slow convergence, and low efficiency of late iteration search when solving cloud task scheduling problems. Thus, this paper proposes an improved HOA called CMOHOA. It collaborates with multi-strategy to improve HOA. Specifically, Chebyshev chaos is introduced to increase population diversity. Then, a hybrid speed update strategy is designed to enhance convergence speed. Meanwhile, an adversarial learning strategy is introduced to enhance the search capability in the late iteration. Different scenarios of scheduling problems are used to test the CMOHOA’s performance. First, CMOHOA was used to solve basic cloud computing task scheduling problems, and the results showed that it reduced the average total cost by 10% or more. Secondly, CMOHOA has been applied to edge fog cloud scheduling problems, and the results show that it reduces the average total scheduling cost by 2% or more. Finally, CMOHOA reduced the average total cost by 7% or more in scheduling problems for information transmission. 展开更多

With the widespread adoption of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)technology,task scheduling for UAV swarms has become a crucial approach to improve operational efficiency.Most existing studies oversimplify the operational process rules of UAVs,making it difficult to accurately characterize the adaptability differences of UAVs to various tasks under practical operational constraints.To address this limitation,this paper proposes a UAV swarm task scheduling problem with limited communication range(UAVS-LCR)and establishes an integer programming model for its formal description.For solving this problem,a multi-neighborhood iterative local search(MNILS)algorithm is designed,which adopts a doubly linked list solution representation method to reduce the computational complexity of basic neighborhood operations.This algorithm generates high-quality initial solutions via a greedy construction strategy,combines insertion search,multi-swap search and the two-opt operator to enable alternating exploration across multiple neighborhoods,and incorporates a simulated annealing mechanism to balance search efficiency and solution diversity.This method can provide an effective solution for various application scenarios including wide-area UAV inspection and heterogeneous UAV collaborative operations.Experimental results on 12 power grid maintenance test instances demonstrate that the MNILS algorithm significantly outperforms the genetic algorithm,the artificial bee colony algorithm,the ant colony optimization algorithm and the variable neighborhood search algorithm in terms of both solution quality and scalability for large-scale problems. 展开更多

Fog computing has emerged as an important technology which can improve the performance of computation-intensive and latency-critical communication networks.Nevertheless,the fog computing Internet-of-Things(IoT)systems are susceptible to malicious eavesdropping attacks during the information transmission,and this issue has not been adequately addressed.In this paper,we propose a physical-layer secure fog computing IoT system model,which is able to improve the physical layer security of fog computing IoT networks against the malicious eavesdropping of multiple eavesdroppers.The secrecy rate of the proposed model is analyzed,and the quantum galaxy–based search algorithm(QGSA)is proposed to solve the hybrid task scheduling and resource management problem of the network.The computational complexity and convergence of the proposed algorithm are analyzed.Simulation results validate the efficiency of the proposed model and reveal the influence of various environmental parameters on fog computing IoT networks.Moreover,the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid task scheduling and resource management scheme can effectively enhance secrecy performance across different communication scenarios. 展开更多

In order to improve the performance of multi-objective workflow scheduling in cloud system, a multi-swarm multiobjective optimization algorithm(MSMOOA) is proposed to satisfy multiple conflicting objectives. Inspired by division of the same species into multiple swarms for different objectives and information sharing among these swarms in nature, each physical machine in the data center is considered a swarm and employs improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization to find out non-dominated solutions with one objective in MSMOOA. The particles in each swarm are divided into two classes and adopt different strategies to evolve cooperatively. One class of particles can communicate with several swarms simultaneously to promote the information sharing among swarms and the other class of particles can only exchange information with the particles located in the same swarm. Furthermore, in order to avoid the influence by the elastic available resources, a manager server is adopted in the cloud data center to collect the available resources for scheduling. The quality of the proposed method with other related approaches is evaluated by using hybrid and parallel workflow applications. The distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem(DFJSP)has attracted great attention with the growth of the global manufacturing industry.General DFJSP research only considers machine constraints and ignores worker constraints.As one critical factor of production,effective utilization of worker resources can increase productivity.Meanwhile,energy consumption is a growing concern due to the increasingly serious environmental issues.Therefore,the distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem with dual resource constraints(DFJSP-DRC)for minimizing makespan and total energy consumption is studied in this paper.To solve the problem,we present a multi-objective mathematical model for DFJSP-DRC and propose a Q-learning-based multi-objective grey wolf optimizer(Q-MOGWO).In Q-MOGWO,high-quality initial solutions are generated by a hybrid initialization strategy,and an improved active decoding strategy is designed to obtain the scheduling schemes.To further enhance the local search capability and expand the solution space,two wolf predation strategies and three critical factory neighborhood structures based on Q-learning are proposed.These strategies and structures enable Q-MOGWO to explore the solution space more efficiently and thus find better Pareto solutions.The effectiveness of Q-MOGWO in addressing DFJSP-DRC is verified through comparison with four algorithms using 45 instances.The results reveal that Q-MOGWO outperforms comparison algorithms in terms of solution quality. 展开更多

A multi-objective optimization model for draft scheduling of hot strip mill was presented, rolling power minimizing, rolling force ratio distribution and good strip shape as the objective functions. A multi-objective differential evolution algorithm based on decomposition (MODE/D). The two-objective and three-objective optimization experiments were performed respectively to demonstrate the optimal solutions of trade-off. The simulation results show that MODE/D can obtain a good Pareto-optimal front, which suggests a series of alternative solutions to draft scheduling. The extreme Pareto solutions are found feasible and the centres of the Pareto fronts give a good compromise. The conflict exists between each two ones of three objectives. The final optimal solution is selected from the Pareto-optimal front by the importance of objectives, and it can achieve a better performance in all objective dimensions than the empirical solutions. Finally, the practical application cases confirm the feasibility of the multi-objective approach, and the optimal solutions can gain a better rolling stability than the empirical solutions, and strip flatness decreases from (0± 63) IU to (0±45) IU in industrial production. 展开更多

Job shop scheduling(JS)is an important technology for modern manufacturing.Flexible job shop scheduling(FJS)is critical in JS,and it has been widely employed in many industries,including aerospace and energy.FJS enables any machine from a certain set to handle an operation,and this is an NP-hard problem.Furthermore,due to the requirements in real-world cases,multi-objective FJS is increasingly widespread,thus increasing the challenge of solving the FJS problems.As a result,it is necessary to develop a novel method to address this challenge.To achieve this goal,a novel collaborative evolutionary algorithmwith two-population based on Pareto optimality is proposed for FJS,which improves the solutions of FJS by interacting in each generation.In addition,several experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed method is promising and effective for multi-objective FJS,which has discovered some new Pareto solutions in the well-known benchmark problems,and some solutions can dominate the solutions of some other methods. 展开更多

In practice, multiple ethylene furnaces are usually run in parallel. The scheduling of the entire cracking furnace system has great significance when multiple feeds are simultaneously processed in multiple cracking furnaces with the changing of operating cost and yield of product. In this paper, given the requirements of both profit and energy saving in actual production process, a multi-objective optimization model contains two objectives, maximizing the average benefits and minimizing the average coking amount was proposed. The model can be abstracted as a multi-objective mixed integer non- linear programming problem. Considering the mixed integer decision variables of this multi-objective problem, an improved hybrid encoding non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm with mixed discrete variables (MDNSGA-II) is used to solve the Pareto optimal front of this model, the algorithm adopted crossover and muta- tion strategy with multi-operators, which overcomes the deficiency that normal genetic algorithm cannot handle the optimization problem with mixed variables. Finally, using an ethylene plant with multiple cracking furnaces as an example to illustrate the effectiveness of the scheduling results by comparing the optimization results of multi-objective and single objective model. 展开更多

The vehicle routing and scheduling (VRS) problem with multi-objective and multi-constraint is analyzed, considering the complexity of the modern logistics in city economy and daily life based on the system engineering. The objective and constraint includes loading, the dispatch and arrival time, transportation conditions,total cost,etc. An information model and a mathematical model are built,and a method based on knowledge and biologic immunity is put forward for optimizing and evaluating the programs dimensions in vehicle routing and scheduling with multi-objective and multi-constraints. The proposed model and method are illustrated in a case study concerning a transport network, and the result shows that more optimization solutions can be easily obtained and the method is efficient and feasible. Comparing with the standard GA and the standard GA without time constraint,the computational time of the algorithm is less in this paper. And the probability of gaining optimal solution is bigger and the result is better under the condition of multi-constraint. 展开更多

In a typical discrete manufacturing process,a new type of reconfigurable production line is introduced,which aims to help small-and mid-size enterprises to improve machine utilization and reduce production cost.In order to effectively handle the production scheduling problem for the manufacturing system,an improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm based on Brownian motion(MOPSO-BM)is proposed.Since the existing MOPSO algorithms are easily stuck in the local optimum,the global search ability of the proposed method is enhanced based on the random motion mechanism of the BM.To further strengthen the global search capacity,a strategy of fitting the inertia weight with the piecewise Gaussian cumulative distribution function(GCDF)is included,which helps to maintain an excellent convergence rate of the algorithm.Based on the commonly used indicators generational distance(GD)and hypervolume(HV),we compare the MOPSO-BM with several other latest algorithms on the benchmark functions,and it shows a better overall performance.Furthermore,for a real reconfigurable production line of smart home appliances,three algorithms,namely non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II(NSGA-II),decomposition-based MOPSO(dMOPSO)and MOPSO-BM,are applied to tackle the scheduling problem.It is demonstrated that MOPSO-BM outperforms the others in terms of convergence rate and quality of solutions. 展开更多
