This paper generalizes the classic resource allocation problem to the resource planning and allocation problem, in which the resource itself is a decision variable and the cost of each activity is uncertain when the resource is determined. The authors formulate this problem as a two-stage stochastic programming. The authors first propose an efficient algorithm for the case with finite states. Then, a sudgradient method is proposed for the general case and it is shown that the simple algorithm for the unique state case can be used to compute the subgradient of the objective function. Numerical experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the model. 展开更多

Military attack missions often employ a fleet of UCAVs equipped with weapons to attack a set of known targets. A UCAV can carry different weapons to accomplish different combat missions. Choice of different weapons will have different effects on the final combat effectiveness. This work presents a mixed integer programming model for simultaneous weapon configuration and route planning of UCAVs, which solves the problem optimally using the IBM ILOG CPLEX optimizer for simple missions. This paper develops a heuristic algorithm to handle the medium-scale and large-scale problems. The experiments demonstrate the performance of the heuristic algorithm in solving the medium scale and large scale problems. Moreover, we give suggestions on how to select the most appropriate algorithm to solve different scale problems. 展开更多

Intelligent and connected vehicles have leveraged edge computing paradigm to enhance their environment comprehension and behavior planning capabilities.As the quantity of intelligent vehicles and the demand for edge computing are increasing rapidly,it becomes critical to efficiently orchestrate the communication and computation resources on edge clouds.Existing methods usually perform resource allocation in a fairly effective but still reactive manner,which is subject to the capacity of nearby edge clouds.To deal with the contradiction between the spatiotemporally varying demands for edge computing and the fixed edge cloud capacity,we proactively balance the edge computing demands across edge clouds by appropriate route planning.In this paper,route planning and resource allocation are jointly optimized to enhance intelligent driving.We propose a multi-scale decentralized optimization method to deal with the curse of dimensionality.In large-scale optimization,backpressure algorithm is used to conduct route planning and load balancing across edge clouds.In small-scale optimization,game-theoretic multi-agent learning is exploited to perform regional resource allocation.The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the baseline algorithms which optimize route planning and resource allocation separately. 展开更多

In this paper,multi-UAV trajectory planning and resource allocation are jointly investigated to improve the information freshness for vehicular networks,where the vehicles collect time-critical traffic information by on-board sensors and upload to the UAVs through their allocated spectrum resource.We adopt the expected sum age of information(ESAoI)to measure the network-wide information freshness.ESAoI is jointly affected by both the UAVs trajectory and the resource allocation,which are coupled with each other and make the analysis of ESAoI challenging.To tackle this challenge,we introduce a joint trajectory planning and resource allocation procedure,where the UAVs firstly fly to their destinations and then hover to allocate resource blocks(RBs)during a time-slot.Based on this procedure,we formulate a trajectory planning and resource allocation problem for ESAoI minimization.To solve the mixed integer nonlinear programming(MINLP)problem with hybrid decision variables,we propose a TD3 trajectory planning and Round-robin resource allocation(TTPRRA).Specifically,we exploit the exploration and learning ability of the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm(TD3)for UAVs trajectory planning,and utilize Round Robin rule for the optimal resource allocation.With TTP-RRA,the UAVs obtain their flight velocities by sensing the locations and the age of information(AoI)of the vehicles,then allocate the RBs to the vehicles in a descending order of AoI until the remaining RBs are not sufficient to support another successful uploading.Simulation results demonstrate that TTP-RRA outperforms the baseline approaches in terms of ESAoI and average AoI(AAoI). 展开更多

To smooth the correlation process from bio-virus diffusion to emergency relief response,the Gaussian plume model is used to describe the diffusion of dangerous sources,where the bio-virus concentration at any given point in affected areas can be calculated.And the toxic load rule is introduced to define the borderline of the dangerous area at different levels.Combined with this,different emergency levels of different demand points in dangerous areas are confirmed using fuzzy clustering,which allows demand points at the same emergency level to cluster in a group.Some effective emergency relief centers are chosen from the candidate hospitals which are located in different emergency level affected areas by set covering.Bioterrorism experiments which were conducted in Nanjing,Jiangsu province are simulated,and the results indicate that the novel method can be used efficiently by decision makers during an actual anti-bioterrorism relief. 展开更多

Stochastic demand is an important factor that heavily affects production planning.It influences activities such as purchasing,manufacturing,and selling,and quick adaption is required.In production planning,for reasons such as reducing costs and obtaining supplier discounts,many decisions must be made in the initial stage when demand has not been realized.The effects of non-optimal decisions will propagate to later stages,which can lead to losses due to overstocks or out-of-stocks.To find the optimal solutions for the initial and later stage regarding demand realization,this study proposes a stochastic two-stage linear program-ming model for a multi-supplier,multi-material,and multi-product purchasing and production planning process.The objective function is the expected total cost after two stages,and the results include detailed plans for purchasing and production in each demand scenario.Small-scale problems are solved through a deterministic equivalent transformation technique.To solve the problems in the large scale,an algorithm combining metaheuristic and sample average approximation is suggested.This algorithm can be implemented in parallel to utilize the power of the solver.The algorithm based on the observation that if the remaining quantity of materials and number of units of products at the end of the initial stage are given,then the problems of the first and second stages can be decomposed. 展开更多

In this study, accessibility and location-allocation models have been integrated into GIS to improve spatial planning and environmental sustainability of health services in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah. This integration provides a planning framework in order to check the efficiency of the spatial allocation of health services and to generate alternatives either by proposing an active service or to improve an existing one. To achieve these objectives, the accessibility to the service area was analyzed within the analysis of health services networks, which are divided into eight types: public hospitals, specialized hospitals, health units, healthcare centers, infirmaries, clinic complexes, the Red Crescent Center, and ambulance facilities, with time intervals of (5 minutes - 10 minutes - 15 minutes) to access coverage ranges, and the location-allocation model was used based on the maximum coverage model within a response time not exceeding 15 minutes, The results of the study revealed the poor distribution of health services Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah suffers from weak accessibility to health services coverage areas and is unable to meet the needs of its population at present. The current need for health services reached twenty-four locations, including two public hospitals, three specialized hospitals, two health centers, three ambulance facilities, four infirmaries, three clinic complexes, four health units, and three Red Crescent centers. 展开更多

In this study, we investigate the optimal location of access points (APs) to connect end nodes with a service provider through power-line communication in smartgrid communication networks. APs are the gateways of power-distribution communication networks, connecting users to control centers. Hence, they are vital for the reliable, safe, and economical operation of a power system. This paper proposes a planning method for AP allocation that takes into consideration economics, reliability, network delay, and (n-l) resilience. First, an optimization model for the AP location is established, which minimizes the cost of installing APs, while satisfying the reliability, network delay, and (n-1) resilience constraints. Then, an improved genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization problem. The simulation results indicate that the proposed planning method can deal with diverse network conditions satisfactorily. Furthermore, it can be applied effectively with high flexibility and scalability. 展开更多

Based on the modeling of robot working environment, the shortest distance matrix between points is solved by Floyd algorithm. With the objective of minimizing the sum of the fixed cost of robot and the cost of robot operation, an integer programming model is established and a genetic algorithm for solving the model is designed. In order to make coordination to accomplish their respective tasks for each robot with high efficiency, this paper uses natural number encoding way. The objective function is based on penalty term constructed with the total number of collisions in the running path of robots. The fitness function is constructed by using the objective function with penalty term. Based on elitist retention strategy, a genetic algorithm with collision detection is designed. Using this algorithm for task allocation and path planning of multi-robot, it can effectively avoid or reduce the number of collisions in the process of multi-robot performing tasks. Sustainable development can only be achieved by conscious planning and implementation of action plans. Decision making requires a careful selection of the right conceptual framework and models for planning and implementation processes. Planning process models dictate in very clear terms what must be done and how it is done to achieve a successful completion of a process of activity [1]. Since about 80% of data used to support decisions are geographically related [3], it is necessary to put Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the core of the planning and implementation model. There exists a great disparity in a heterogeneous world. The locational disparity in achieving sustainable development, therefore, necessitates a planning model that is “location specific” i.e. identifies areas (locations) requiring intervention and areas (locations) requiring continuous improvement strategies. This was achieved in this study by reviewing Bell’s Information System Strategic Planning Model and Kaufman’s Strategic Planning Model, and the designing of new model to overcome the limitation of existing models. Practical application of the new model was carried out in education planning and administration in order to achieve the global goals for sustainable development 4 (quality education). Finding shows that the Comparative Geospatial Planning Model for “Location Specific” Intervention and Continuous Improvement Strategy is useful to support the achievement of sustainable development goals in multidisciplinary, multi-sector applicable instances. 展开更多

For facing the challenges brought by large-scale renewable energy having access to the system and considering the key technologies of energy Internet,it is very necessary to put forward the location method of distribution network equipment and capacity from the perspective of life cycle cost.Compared with the traditional energy network,the equipment capacity problem of energy interconnected distribution network which involves in electricity network,thermal energy network and natural gas network is comprehensively considered in this paper.On this basis,firstly,the operation architecture of energy interconnected distribution network is designed.Secondly,taking the grid connection location and configuration capacity of key equipment in the system as the control variables and the operation cost of system comprehensive planning in the whole life cycle as the goal,the equipment location and capacity optimization model of energy interconnected distribution network is established.Finally,an IEEE 33 bus energy mutual distribution grid system is taken for example analysis,and the improved chaotic particle swarmoptimization algorithm is used to solve it.The simulation results show that the method proposed in this paper is suitable for the equipment location and capacity planning of energy interconnected distribution network,and it can effectively improve the social and economic benefits of system operation. 展开更多

This paper aimed at incorporating the precautionary principles into the planning and development of GSM (global system for mobile communications) masts within the built-up areas of Jimeta. Using GIS (geographic information system) analysis technique, the zone of precautionary principle was defined to 500 meters radius as the zone within which precautionary measures are exercised. The criteria for siting GSM base station are also equally identified. For instance, the presence of certain elements within the precautionary zone like schools, hospitals, residential density and overlap of RF (radio frequency) occurrences, may disqualify any mast location. Analysis of the land use within precautionary zone has shown various proportions of exposure to RF, whereas, only 3.39% of the masts are suitably located and 94.92% are not and therefore should be relocated. The study recommend measures for addressing physical development within precautionary areas, including land conversion and mast sharing to reduce potential harmful effects of RF emanating from GSM base stations. 展开更多

A major concern is to locate manufacturing plants and/or distribution centers to serve the needs of consumers widely and rapidly with reasonably distributive cost and flexible delivery time. The purpose of this research is to help enhance a decision support for three distribution center locations with different ranges of area in order that the distributors are able to serve appropriately the retailers in twelve large cities or capitals of the nine countries in Asia-Pacific region. The researcher applies the theory of supply chain and logistics management systems with Excel, Visual Basic and Genetic Algorithms programs to find the research results. The research results revealed that the interfaces of Excel, Visual Basic, and Genetic Algorithms programs helped decision support in distribution range selection for 3 distribution center locations. Each of which had different ranges of area for distribution with a rapidly, flexibly distributed time. However, variables resulting in a decision-making should be adjusted under certain circumstances for more reliable, specific needs. 展开更多

Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)swarm network consisting of a collection of micro UAVs can be used for many applications.It is well established that packet routing is a fundamental problem to achieve UAV collaboration.However,the highly dynamic nature of UAVs,frequently changing network topologies and security issues,poses significant challenges to packet forwarding in UAV networks.The existing topology-based routing protocols are not well suited in UAV network due to their high controlling overhead or excessive end-to-end delay.Geographic routing is regarded as a promising solution,as it only requires local information.In order to enhance the accuracy and security of geographic routing in highly dynamic UAV network,in this paper,we propose a new predictive geographic(PGeo)routing strategy with location verification.First,a detection mechanism is adopted to recognize malicious UAVs falsifying their location.Then,an accurate average service time of a packet in the medium access control(MAC)layer is derived to assist location prediction.The proposed delay model can provide a theoretical basis for future work,and our simulation results reveal that PGeo outstrips the existing geographic routing protocols in terms of packet delivery ratio in the presence of location spoofing behavior. 展开更多

Hierarchical Task Network(HTN)planning is a powerful technique in artificial intelligence for handling complex problems by decomposing them into hierarchical task structures.However,achieving optimal solutions in HTN planning remains a challenge,especially in scenarios where traditional search algorithms struggle to navigate the vast solution space efficiently.This research proposes a novel technique to enhance HTN planning by integrating the Ant Colony Optimization(ACO)algorithm into the refinement process.The Ant System algorithm,inspired by the foraging behavior of ants,is well-suited for addressing optimization problems by efficiently exploring solution spaces.By incorporating ACO into the refinement phase of HTN planning,the authors aim to leverage its adaptive nature and decentralized decision-making to improve plan generation.This paper involves the development of a hybrid strategy called ACO-HTN,which combines HTN planning with ACO-based plan selection.This technique enables the system to adaptively refine plans by guiding the search towards optimal solutions.To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed technique,this paper conducts empirical experiments on various domains and benchmark datasets.Our results demonstrate that the ACO-HTN strategy enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of HTN planning,outperforming traditional methods in terms of solution quality and computational performance. 展开更多

Revolutionizing hepatobiliary surgery:Impact of three-dimensional imaging and virtual surgical planning on precision,complications,and patient outcomes

BACKGROUND Hepatobiliary surgery is complex and requires a thorough understanding of the liver’s anatomy,biliary system,and vasculature.Traditional imaging methods such as computed tomography(CT)and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),although helpful,fail to provide three-dimensional(3D)relationships of these structures,which are critical for planning and executing complicated surgeries.AIM To explore the use of 3D imaging and virtual surgical planning(VSP)technologies to improve surgical accuracy,reduce complications,and enhance patient recovery in hepatobiliary surgeries.METHODS A comprehensive review of studies published between 2017 and 2024 was conducted through PubMed,Scopus,Google Scholar,and Web of Science.Studies selected focused on 3D imaging and VSP applications in hepatobiliary surgery,assessing surgical precision,complications,and patient outcomes.Thirty studies,including randomized controlled trials,cohort studies,and case reports,were included in the final analysis.RESULTS Various 3D imaging modalities,including multidetector CT,MRI,and 3D rotational angiography,provide high-resolution views of the liver’s vascular and biliary anatomy.VSP allows surgeons to simulate complex surgeries,improving preoperative planning and reducing complications like bleeding and bile leaks.Several studies have demonstrated improved surgical precision,reduced complications,and faster recovery times when 3D imaging and VSP were used in complex surgeries.CONCLUSION 3D imaging and VSP technologies significantly enhance the accuracy and outcomes of hepatobiliary surgeries by providing individualized preoperative planning.While promising,further research,particularly randomized controlled trials,is needed to standardize protocols and evaluate long-term efficacy. 展开更多
