During the operation and installation of offshore pipelines, high axial forces and pressures are experienced, and their effects cannot be neglected. In this article, the effect of internal flow velocity and functional loads on vortex-induced vibration (VIV) response is investigated. On the basis of the Hamilton principle, a differential equation was derived to describe the motion of a pinned-pinned tensioned spanning pipeline conveying fluid. The VIV response was calculated according to DNV-RP-F105 under different functional loads. The results showed that functional loads influence free spanning pipeline VIV response by changing the natural frequency. Internal flow velocity was found less important for VIV response than other functional load factors, such as effective axial force, because the speed in reality is not high enough to be significant. The research may provide a reference for sensitivity studies of the effect of functional loads on allowable free span lengths. 展开更多

Confinement of rock bolts by the surrounding rock formation has long been recognized as a positive contributor to the pull-out behavior,yet only a few experimental works and analytical models have been reported,most of which are based on the global rock bolt response evaluated in pull-out tests.This paper presents a laboratory experimental setup aiming to capture the rock formation effect,while using distributed fiber optic sensing to quantify the effect of the confinement and the reinforcement pull-out behavior on a more local level.It is shown that the behavior along the sample itself varies,with certain points exhibiting stress drops with crack formation.Some edge effects related to the kinematic freedom of the grout to dilate are also observed.Regardless,it was found that the mid-level response is quite similar to the average response along the sample.The ability to characterize the variation of the response along the sample is one of the many advantages high-resolution fiber optic sensing allows in such investigations.The paper also offers a plasticity-based hardening load transfer function,representing a"slice"of the anchor.The paper describes in detail the development of the model and the calibration/determination of its parameters.The suggested model captures well the coupled behavior in which the pull-out process leads to an increase in the confining stress due to dilative behavior. 展开更多

Formulation of exact loading function for radial loading situation has been a major challenge in wheel modeling. Hence, approximate loading functions such as Cosine, Boussinesq, Eye-bar, Polynomial, Hertzian etc., have been developed by different researchers. In this paper, analysis of different loading functions—Cosine (CLF), Boussinesq (BLF) and Eye-bar (ELF) at deferent inflation pressure of 0.3, 0.15 and 0 MPa at specified radial load of 4750N is carried out on a selected aluminium with ISO designation (6JX14H2;ET 42). The 3-D computer model of the wheel is generated and discretised into 3785 hexahedral elements and analysed with Creo Elements/Pro 5.0. Loading angle of 90 degree symmetric with the point of contact of the wheel with the ground is used for ELF, while 30 degrees contact angle is employed for both CLF and BLF. Von Mises stress is used as a basis for comparison of the different loading functions investigated with the experimental data obtained by Sherwood et al while the displacement values (as obtained from the FEM tool) are used as a basis for comparison of the different loading functions, as displacement is not covered by Sherwood et al. Results show that at 0.3MPa inflation pressure, the maximum stress value of CLF approaches the Sherwood value of about 14 MPa and that the CLF function values coincide with Sherwood values at three points along the curve, with values of about 13.8 MPa, 13 MPa and 6.4 MPa at about 0 degree, 15 degree and 20 degree respectively. The BLF value coincides with the Sherwood value at about 18 degree with a magnitude of about 10.6 MPa, while ELF equals the Sherwood value at magnitude of about 6.2 MPa at about 22 degree. At 0.15 and 0 MPa inflation pressure, values CLF, BLF and ELF deviate significantly from the Sherwood values (due to under inflation) with the maximum CLF stress value approaching a value of about 13 and 12MPa respectively. The CLF, BLF and the Sherwood values are the same at about 6 and 3 MPa at 0.15 and 0 MPa inflation pressure respectively. The displacement values for ELF are lesser than those of CLF and BLF for all range of values. The different loading functions values being equal the Sherwood values (used as refernce) at different points, with the CLF having more coincident points along the curve. Higher stress and displacement magnitudes are clustered between 0 degree and about 35 degree. Although, the CLF and BLF offer greater stress and displacement values than ELF, hence the type of loading function adapted for any analysis depends on the type of tyres to be fitted on the wheel. CLF and BLF offers greater prospect for non run flat tyres, while ELF is most suited for run flat tyres. In all cases the right inflation pressure as specified by the tyre manufacture should be employed in any analysis. 展开更多

Three yield functions are implemented into the commercial finite element model(FEM) code ABAQUS as a user material subroutine UMAT for the FEM simulation of the combined loading tests. The comparison of the simulating and experimental results shows that the modified Yld2000-2d yield function can describe the mechanical behavior of5754 O aluminum alloy sheet under combined loading paths reasonably while other three yield functions do not.The performance of the modified Yld2000-2d yield function on describing the mechanical behavior under combined loading paths is analyzed in detail. It is concluded that the modified Yld2000-2d yield function can be adopted to describe the deformation behavior of 5754 O aluminum alloy sheet for industrial applications. 展开更多

The analysis is based on the exact elasticity equations for the plane stress problem. The stress function is introduced and assumed in the form of a polynomial of the longitudinal coordinate. The expressions for stress components are then educed from the stress function by simple differentiation. The stress function is determined from the compatibility equation as well as the boundary conditions by a skilful deduction. The analytical solution is compared with FEM calculation, indicating a good agreement. 展开更多

In the present paper, chiral mesoporous silica nano-cocoon(A-CMSN) functionalized with amino group was synthesized, and its loading and release of indomethacin(IMC), a poorly soluble drug, was studied. Due to the use of chiral anionic surfactants as a template, ACMSN possessed 2D hexagonal nano-cocoon morphology with curled channels on its surface, which was quite different from another 2D hexagonal mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MCM-41) with straightway channels. After being loaded into the two silica carriers by hydrogen bond, crystalline IMC converted to amorphous form, leading to the improved drug dissolution. And IMC loading capacity of A-CMSN was higher than MCM-41 because curled loading process originating from curvature chiral channels can hold more drug molecules. Compared with IMC, IMC loaded A-CMSN presented obviously fast release throughout the in vitro release experiment, while IMC loaded MCM-41 released faster than IMC at the initial 5 h then showed controlled slow release afterwards, which was closely related to the mesoporous silica nanoparticles and different channel mesostructures of these two carriers. A-CMSN possessed nano-cocoon morphology with curled 2D hexagonal channel and its channel length was shorter than MCM-41, therefore IMC molecules can easily get rid of the constraint of A-CMSN then to be surrounded by dissolution medium. 展开更多

This paper presents a method to derive the Dyadic Green’s Function(DGF)ofa loaded rectangular waveguide by using the image method.In the calculation of the DGF,we use the integral transformation and replace the multi-infinite summation by a single one;thus it greatly simplifies the calculation and saves computer time.As an example of the DGF’sapplication,we give the moment method’s scattering field calculation of a metal sphere resting onthe broad wall of the loaded rectangular waveguide.Results of our calculations well agree withboth data of experiments performed in our laboratory and those are published.It is easy to seethat the method used in this paper can be expanded to other related waveguide problems. 展开更多

Based on the Reissner assumptions, this paper is concerned with the bending analy- sis of simply supported sandwich plates with functionally graded core and orthotropic face sheets subjected to transverse distributed loadings. First, the expressions of the displacements, stresses and internal forces of the sandwich plate are presented according to the constitutive relations and stress states of the core and face sheets. Then, the solutions of bending equilibrium equa- tions are derived by expanding the deflection w, transverse shearing forces Q~ and Qv with double trigonometric series that satisfy the simply supported boundary conditions. Finally, the proposed solution is validated by comparing the results with available elasticity solutions for a square sand- wich plate with an isotropie core and finite element simulations for one with functionally graded core. The Young's modulus of the functionally graded core is assumed to be graded by a power law distribution of volume fractions of the constituents, and the Poisson's ratio is held constant. And the effects of the core's top-bottom Young's modulus ratio A and volume fraction exponent no on the variation of the displacements of the functionally graded sandwich plate are also examined. 展开更多

The material properties are assumed to vary according to power function along the thickness of the beam. The effects of several parameters such as thermal expansion parameter, thermal conductivity and modulus of elasticity on the resultant axial stress of the FG beam have been studied. For thermal loading the steady state of heat conduction with power and exponentially variations through the thickness of FGB, is considered. The results obtained show that temperature distribution plays very important parameter controlling thermal resultant distribution of stresses and strains. 展开更多

Effect of antidepressant treatment on water load test and cortisol changes in patients with functional dyspepsia

BACKGROUND: It has been demonstrated that patients with functional dyspepsia have experiences social life stress events, and accompanied by psychological disorders, mainly manifested as depression and anxiety.Mental factors can lead to excessive gastrointestinal consensual reaction, and result in different brain-gut axis disturbance, and then cause the gastrointestinal sensorimotor abnormality and endocrine changes.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of antidepressant treatment on the changes of water load and serum cortisol in patients with functional dyspepsia, and analyze the therapeutic mechanism.DESIGN: A comparative observation.SETTING: The First Affiliated Hospital o Zhengzhou University.PARTICIPANTS: Forty-five patients with functional dyspepsia accompanied by depression were selected from the Department of Gastroenterology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from July 2004 to July 2006, and they were 25 - 65 years of age, and their disease courses ranged 1 - 10 years. They were all accorded with the diagnostic standards for Rome Ⅱ functional dyspepsia functional dyspepsia. As the patients' will, they were divided into treatment group (n =30, 12 males and 18 females) and control group (n =15, 6 males and 9 females), and there were no significant differences in the data between the two groups (P 〉 0.05). The programs were discussed and agreed by the committee of medical ethics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Informed contents were obtained from all the patients.METHODS: In the treatment group, the patients were treated with venlafaxine sustained release capsule (75 mg per day), and those with sleep disorder were added by benzodiazepines (alprazolam). In the control group, the patients were given routine treatments of antacid, prokinetics, etc. Before and after 8-week treatment, the following examinations were performed: ① The gastrointestinal symptoms were assessed according to the symptoms; ② The severity of depression was evaluated with Hamilton depression scale (HAMD); ③The relaxation of proximal stomach was observed using water load test; ④ The serum level of cortisol was detected.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Symptom score; ② HAMD score; ③ Water load amount; ④Serum level of cortisol.RESULTS: All the 45 patients were involved in the analysis of results. ① Symptom score: The scores of gastrointestinal symptoms were decreased as compared with those before treatment in both the treatment group and control group (P 〈 0.05). ② HAMD scores: The scores of HAMD were decreased as compared with those before treatment in both the treatment group and control group (P 〈 0.05). ③ Water load amount:The total effective rate was significantly higher in the treatment group than the control group (P 〈 0.05). ④The serum levels of cortisol after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment in the patients with severe gastrointestinal symptoms in the treatment group and control group (P 〈 0.05).CONCLUSION: Antidepressants can normalize the cortisol level of patients with functional dyspepsia, and then decrease gastric sensitivity and ameliorates the receptive relaxation of proximal stomach, also increase the water load amount correspondingly, and finally control the gastrointestinal symptoms of functional dyspepsia. 展开更多

This analysis overcomes significant problems in wave scattering due to local soil conditions and dynamic soil-structure interaction. Assessment of the fraction of bed load concentration towards the sediment transport of a monsoon-dominated river basin of Eastern India

Given the challenges of re-creating complex bed load(BL)transport processes in rivers,models are preferred over gathering and examining field data.The highlight of the present research is to develop an approach to determine the ungauged bed load concentration(BLC_(u))utilizing the measured suspended sediment concentration(SSC)and hydraulic variables of the last four decades for the Mahanadi River Basin.This technique employs shear stress and SSC equations for turbulent open channel flow.Besides,the predicted BLC_(u)is correlated with SSC using a power relation to estimate BLC_(u)on the river and tributaries.Eventually,different BL functions(BLF)efficiency is assessed across stations.The model predicted BLC_(u)is comparable with the published data for sandy rivers and falls within±20%.Outliers in hydraulic and sedimentological statistics significantly influence estimating the BL fraction apart from higher relative ratios and catchment geology.The constants of power functions are physically linked to sediment transport configuration,mechanism,and inflow to the stream.The stream power-based BLF best predicts the BL transport,followed by shear stress and unit discharge approaches.The disparity in the estimation of BLC_(u)results from station-specific physical factors,sampling data dispersion,and associated uncertainties. 展开更多

A new method is developed to derive equilibrium equations of Metal-Ceramic beams based on first order shear deformation plate theory which is named first order shear deformation beam theory2(FSDBT2). Equilibrium equations obtained from conventional method (FSDBT1) is compared with FSDBT2 and the case of cylindrical bending of Metal-Ceramic composite plates for non-linear thermomechanical deformations and various loadings and boundary conditions. These equations are solved by using three different methods (analytical, perturbation technique and finite element solution). The through-thickness variation of the volume fraction of the ceramic phase in a Metal-Ceramic beam is assumed to be given by a power-law type function. The non-linear strain-displacement relations in the von-Kármán sense are used to study the effect of geometric non-linearity. Also, four other representative averaging estimation methods, the linear rule, Mori-Tanaka, Self-Consistent and Wakashima-Tsukamoto schemes, by comparing with the power-law type function are also investigated. Temperature distribution through the thickness of the beams in thermal loadings is obtained by solving the one-dimensional heat transfer equation. Finally it is concluded that for Metal-Ceramic composites, these two theories result in identical static responses. Also the displacement field and equilibrium equations in the case of cylindrical bending of Metal-Ceramic plates are the same as those supposed in FSDBT2. 展开更多

Horizontal impedance functions of inclined single piles are measured experimentally for model soil-pile systems with both the effects of local soil nonlinearity and resonant characteristics.Two practical pile inclinations of 5掳 and 10掳 in addition to a vertical pile embedded in cohesionless soil and subjected to lateral harmonic pile head loadings for a wide range of frequencies are considered.Results obtained with low-to-high amplitude of lateral loadings on model soil-pile systems encased in a laminar shear box show that the local nonlinearities have a profound impact on the horizontal impedance functions of piles.Horizontal impedance functions of inclined piles are found to be smaller than the vertical pile and the values decrease as the angle of pile inclination increases.Distinct values of horizontal impedance functions are obtained for the 'positive' and 'negative' cycles of harmonic loadings,leading to asymmetric force-displacement relationships for the inclined piles.Validation of these experimental results is carried out through three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analyses,and the results from the numerical models are in good agreement with the experimental data.Sensitivity analyses conducted on the numerical models suggest that the consideration of local nonlinearity at the vicinity of the soil-pile interface influence the response of the soil-pile systems. 展开更多

A functionally graded material-based actively water-cooled tungsten-copper mockup with a dimension of 30 mm×30 mm×25 mm was designed and fabricated by infiltration-brazing method.The thicknesses of the pure W layer and W/Cu graded layer were 2 and 3 mm,respectively.High heat flux tests were performed on the mockup using an e-beam device.There is no damage occurring on the joint after heat loading at 5 MW/m2.The temperature on the pure W surface is less than 500°C after irradiation for 100 s at 5 MW/m2,while the temperature on the brazing seam/copper surface is around 200°C. 展开更多

The effect of work roll diameter,unit width rolling load, roll bending force, work roll crown, initial strip crown and reduction, etc, on load distributioneffect rate was simulated by using the software. The results show that the load distribution effect rate increaseswith the increase of strip width, work roll diameter, unit width rolling load, roll bending force, work roll crown,initial strip crown and reduction. Based on the simulation results, base value of load distribution effect rate andfitting coefficients of six power polynomial of load distribution effect rate modification coefficient were determinedconsidering all of the above parameters. Based on the fundamental dynamic equations of functionally graded material (FGM) cylindrical shell, this paper investigates the sound radiation of vibrational FGM shell in water by mobility method. This model takes into account the exterior fluid loading due to the sound press radiated by the FGM shell. The FGM cylindrical shell was excited by a harmonic line radial force uniformly distributing along the generator. The FGM shell equations of motion, the Helmholtz equation in the exterior fluid medium and the continuity equation at fluid-shell interface are used in this vibroacoustic problem. The expressions of sound radiation efficiency and sound field of the FGM shell have been derived by mobility method. Radiation efficiency, modal mobility and the directivity pattern of the sound field are solved numerically. In particular, radiation efficiency and directivity pattern with various power law index are analyzed. 展开更多
