[Method] The experiment, through artificial soil columns, simulated vertical flow arti-ficial wetland, set four hydraulic load level at 50, 100, 150 and 200 cm/d, to identify the impact of hydraulic loading on wetland clogging and to explore the factors run-ning threshold. [Result] The results show that the different levels of hydraulic loading have greater impact; in the constructed wetland clogging process under high hy-draulic loading of 200 cm/d, the effective life was only six months, and the single factor can be speculated that the threshold of the hydraulic load should be at 100-150 cm/d; system can last for six months at low hydraulic loading and last for three months at medium hydraulic load. [Conclusion] The research provides references for wetland clogging experiments in future.展开更多

Strength increase and splitting failure have been observed during dynamic tests of rock materials. However, the failure mechanism still remains unclear. In this work, based on laboratory tests, numerical simulations with the particle flow code(PFC) were carried out to reproduce the micro-fracturing process of granite specimens. Shear and tensile cracks were both recorded to investigate the failure mode of rocks under different loading conditions. At the same time, a dynamic damage model based on the Weibull distribution was established to predict the deformation and degradation behavior of specimens. It is found that micro-cracks play important roles in controlling the dynamic deformation and failure process of rock under impact loadings. The sharp increase in the number of cracks may be the reason for the strength increase of rock under high strain rates. Tensile cracks tend to be the key reason for splitting failure of specimens. Numerical simulation of crack propagation by PFC can give vivid description of the failure process. However, it is not enough for evaluation of material degradation. The dynamic damage model is able to predict the stress-strain relationship of specimens reasonably well, and can be used to explain the degradation of specimens under impact loadings at macro-scale. Crack and damage can describe material degradation at different scales and can be used together to reveal the failure mechanism of rocks.展开更多

They enable the computation of voltage, current, and power flows in a power system. They provide valuable insights into the steady-state performance of the power system under different operating conditions. Choosing a slack bus is a vital step in conducting load flow simulations. A slack bus is a PV bus that includes a generator and is used to balance real and reactive power during load flow studies. Many studies have been conducted on the selection of slack buses in load flow analysis. However, varied conclusions regarding the impact on system losses and power flows were obtained during these studies. Therefore, using the IEEE-14 bus test system, this study investigated the effects of slack bus selection in strong and weak grids by alternating slack buses among PV buses and observing the effects on bus voltage magnitude, bus voltage phase angle, total power flows, and active and reactive power losses. The study noted that the effect of slack bus selection on these system quantities is contingent upon the voltage stability of the grid. Whereas in a robust grid, system losses and power flows remained constant irrespective of the choice of slack bus, a weak grid experienced some variations in these system quantities under similar circumstances. The simulation results led to the conclusion that, to a large extent, the voltage stability of the grid plays a significant role in determining the degree to which slack bus selection affects system losses and other quantities in load flow studies.展开更多

By design, a distribution grid system is not an active network, and it is normally designed in such a way that power flows from transmission system via distribution system to consumers. But in a situation when wind turbines are connected to the distribution grid, the power source will change from one source to two sources, in this case, network is said to be active. This may probably have an impact on the distribution grid to whenever the wind turbine is connected. The best way to know the impact of wind turbine on the distribution grid in question is by carrying out load flow analysis on that system with and without the connection of wind turbines. Two major fundamental calculations: the steady-state voltage variation at the PCC (point of common coupling) and the calculation of short-circuit power of the grid system at the POC (point of connection) are necessary before carrying out the load flow study on the distribution grid. This paper, therefore, considers these pre-load flow calculations that are necessary before carrying out load flow study on the test distribution grid. According to the principle and characteristic of load independent flow distribution(LUDV) system, taking boom hydraulic system as an example and ignoring the leakage of hydraulic cylinder and the mass of oil in it,a force equilibrium equation and a continuous equation of hydraulic cylinder were set up. Based on the flow equation of electro-hydraulic proportional valve, the pressure passing through the valve and the difference of pressure were tested and analyzed. The results show that the difference of pressure does not change with load, and it approximates to 2.0 MPa. And then, assume the flow across the valve is directly proportional to spool displacement and is not influenced by load,a simplified model of electro-hydraulic system was put forward. At the same time,by analyzing the structure and load-bearing of boom instrument, and combining moment equivalent equation of manipulator with rotating law,the estimation methods and equations for such parameters as equivalent mass and bearing force of hydraulic cylinder were set up. Finally, the step response of flow of boom cylinder was tested when the electro-hydraulic proportional valve was controlled by the step current. Based on the experiment curve, the flow gain coefficient of valve is identified as 2.825×10-4 m3/(s·A) and the model is verified.展开更多

The time varying nature of wind speed has significant effect on performance of wind generator, therefore efficient mechanism for stabilizing the output of the wind generator is very much needed. Self-excited induction generators (SEIG) already existing in the network are sensitive to wind speeds. In this paper, a new method for voltage control of SEIG utilizing reactive power enhancing capabilities of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is simulated and its effect on the network is analyzed for varying wind speeds. The choice of placing DFIG adjacent to SEIG or at another bus is also addressed in this paper with simulation results. The results show that this method of utilizing the reactive power capabilities of DFIG enhances voltage stability of SEIG as well as system stability.展开更多

In this paper, an enhancement technique of real power transfer capacity of transmission lines is presented. A SVC (static var compensator) is designed and applied to a simple power system for this purpose. Increase in power flow and improvement in bus voltage profile are observed after using the SVC. Stability analysis of the system after experiencing fault as well as consequent fault clearance by time domain analysis has also beeu performed and satisfactory results are obtained.展开更多

The results are interesting because by injecting electrical energy to the network or to the line to the same selected, the joule losses are within the standards provided by the International Electrotechnical Commission.
文摘The increased level of penetration of wind generators into modern power system has significant effect on network operation. The results show that this method of utilizing the reactive power capabilities of DFIG enhances voltage stability of SEIG as well as system stability.
文摘As power system interconnections become more prevalent, there has been an increase in use of thyristor controlled shunt connected compensation devices for dynamic power compensation and enhancement of real power transmission capacity. In this paper, an enhancement technique of real power transfer capacity of transmission lines is presented. A SVC (static var compensator) is designed and applied to a simple power system for this purpose. Increase in power flow and improvement in bus voltage profile are observed after using the SVC. Stability analysis of the system after experiencing fault as well as consequent fault clearance by time domain analysis has also beeu performed and satisfactory results are obtained.
文摘This paper presents a powerful approach to find the optimal size and location of distributed generation units in a distribution system using GA (Genetic Optimization algorithm). It is proved that GA method is fast and easy tool to enable the planners to select accurate and the optimum size of generators to improve the system voltage profile in addition to reduce the active and reactive power loss. GA fitness function is introduced including the active power losses, reactive power losses and the cumulative voltage deviation variables with selecting weight of each variable. GA fitness function is subjected to voltage constraints, active and reactive power losses constraints and DG size constraint.
