The design of axial or radial swirlers typically governs a number of geometrical parameters that are determined by the desired flow field.In the meantime,the number of unknown parameters increases with the number of concentrically mounted swirlers.The available literature is nonetheless limited,and designers are obligated to increase the number of initial assumptions.In this article,three kinds of triple swirlers are employed and simulations are performed to determine the effect of each parameter on the swirler performance.Based on the correlation provided,overlengthening the radial vane length could result in significant changes in the flow field from the jetlike pattern to a wide swirl-jet angle due to the Coanda effect.Passage width should also have the potential to alter the swirl-jet angle and velocity field at the exit of the swirler. 展开更多

Prognostic value of hemoglobin-to-red cell distribution width ratio and inflammation markers in colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND The hemoglobin-to-red cell distribution width ratio(HRR)is a recently intro-duced,easily accessible marker that provides insights into inflammation and the tumor vascular microenvironment.It has been suggested to have prognostic value for overall survival in various types of cancer,including urothelial carcinoma,lung cancer,and hepatocellular carcinoma.It has not yet been sufficiently invest-igated in colorectal cancers(CRC).AIM To investigate the prognostic significance of the HRR and other inflammation-based hematological markers in patients with metastatic CRC.Additionally,the study evaluated the impact of surgical interventions,particularly metastasectomy,and multiple clinical and laboratory parameters on overall survival.By iden-tifying low-cost,accessible prognostic indicators,this research seeks to support clinicians in optimizing treatment strategies and risk stratification for patients with CRC.METHODS In this retrospective study,patients diagnosed with CRC between January 2020 and December 2024 were analyzed.The impact of HRR in conjunction with inflammatory markers and a total of 22 different clinical and laboratory para-meters on overall survival were evaluated using univariate Cox regression and a multivariate model.Survival curves were visualized using Kaplan-Meier analysis.RESULTS A total of 155 patients with CRC were included in the study.The median age was 60 years,and 61.9%presented with de novo metastasis.In the receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the curve analysis performed to determine the optimal cutoff,the values were found to be 6.10 for carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)(P=0.036),18.85 for platelet-to-red cell distribution width ratio(P=0.028),and 10.87 for platelet distribution width-to-lymphocyte ratio(P=0.028).For neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio,systemic immune-inflammation index(SII),platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio,HRR,and carbohydrate antigen 19-9,an optimal cutoff could not be determined using the receiver operating characteristic-area under the curve analysis.Therefore,the median values were adopted as the cutoffs(3.09,835.96,177.50,0.380,0.824,and 21.6,respectively).Univariate analysis identified male gender(P=0.045),being under 65 years of age(P=0.001),history of metastas-ectomy(P=0.001),low serum CEA level(P=0.010),low PLR(P=0.024),low SII(P=0.010),and high HRR(P=0.025)as favorable prognostic factors for overall survival.In the multivariate model,being under 65 years of age[hazard ratio(HR)=1.59,95%confidence interval(CI):1.06-2.39,P=0.025],metastasectomy(HR=0.49,95%CI:0.29-0.85,P=0.011),CEA(HR=1.51,95%CI:1.0-2.28,P=0.048),and PLR(HR=1.63,95%CI:1.09-2.44,P=0.018)emerged as independent prognostic factors for overall survival,whereas gender,SII,and HRR did not retain statistical significance.CONCLUSION In conclusion,low HRR alone was a prognostic indicator.However,when modelled with other inflammatory and clinical parameters,it did not provide a sufficiently strong marker feature. 展开更多

A Qualitative Study on Diagnosing Myopia Using the Ratio of Axial Length to Corneal Radius of Curvature

Objective:To investigate the influence of axial length(AL),corneal curvature(CR),and the ratio of axial length to corneal radius of curvature(AL/CR)on myopia in children,and to evaluate the accuracy and specificity of AL/CR in diagnosing myopia in children.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted.A total of 200 children(400 eyes)aged 6-12 years were recruited from the ophthalmology outpatient clinic of Fuling District People’s Hospital from December 2022 to December 2023.AL,CR,and AL/CR were measured,and comprehensive optometry was performed under cycloplegia,with the results recorded in spherical equivalent(SE)form.Results:A total of 200 subjects(400 eyes)were included in this study,of which 330 eyes(82.50%)were myopic.No significant differences in CR were observed among different refractive groups,while significant differences were noted in SE,AL,and AL/CR.The AL and AL/CR ratios were higher in myopic eyes compared to emmetropic and hyperopic eyes.Using cycloplegia as the gold standard,SE in the myopia group was correlated with AL,AL/CR,and CR,with stronger correlations observed with AL and AL/CR.An AL/CR value>3 demonstrated a sensitivity of 0.918,specificity of 0.786,misdiagnosis rate of 0.214,missed diagnosis rate of 0.082,and accuracy of 89.5%in diagnosing myopia.Conclusion:AL and AL/CR values are highly correlated with SE,with the strongest correlation observed in the myopia group.The AL/CR value exhibits high diagnostic value in determining myopia in children. 展开更多

AIM:To assess and compare the utility of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),systemic inflammation index(SII),and red blood cell distribution width(RDW)as potential biomarkers to predict the severity of diabetic retinopathy(DR)in the United States population.METHODS:The observational study enlisted patients diagnosed with DR from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)database,spanning the period from 2005 to 2008.The severity of DR was defined according to Early Treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy Study(ETDRs).The effect of NLR,PLR,SII,and RDW on proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR)were explored using multivariable logistic regression analysis model.Subgroup analysis and restricted cubic splines(RCS)were conducted to assess the robustness of the correlations across subgroups and to explore nonlinear relationships between four indices and PDR.The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis was employed for the purpose of assessing and evaluating the predictive efficacy of NLR,PLR,SII,and RDW in determining the severity of DR.RESULTS:After adjusting for other confounders(age,gender,race,body mass index,diabetes duration,and HbA1c)in multivariable analysis,a unit increase of PLR×0.1,SII×0.01,and RDW would raise the risk for PDR by 15.6%,22.2%,and 33%,respectively.Particularly,there was a 2.208-fold greater risk of PDR in individuals with an elevated NLR(OR=2.208,95%CI,1.348-3.617,P<0.001).RCS analyses showed positive relationships of four indices and PDR after segmented regression based on their own turning points.The results of ROC analysis revealed that PLR+RDW[area under the curve(AUC)=0.772,95%CI:0.669-0.874]had the best predictive value for PDR,compared with NLR+PLR+SII(AUC=0.697,95%CI:0.570-0.825)or RDW alone(AUC=0.736,95%CI:0.646-0.826).CONCLUSION:The combination of RDW and NLR demonstrates a promising ability to predict the severity of DR across the United States population,and it could be promisingly used in clinics for monitoring the progress of DR. 展开更多

Wheat grain morphology,particularly grain length(GL)and width(GW),is a key determinant of yield.To improve the suboptimal grain dimensions of the local anthocyanin-rich variety Guizi 1(GZ1),we crossed it with Zhongyan 96-3(ZY96-3),an elite germplasm known for faster grain filling and superior grain size.A genotyping-by-sequencing(GBS)approach was applied to an F_(2)population of 110 individuals derived from GZ1×ZY96-3,resulting in the identification of 23,134 high-quality SNPs.Most of the SNPs associated with GL and GW were clustered on chromosomes 2B,3A,and 3B.QTL mapping for GL revealed two major loci,GL1 on chromosome 2B and GL2 on chromosome 3B,and eight candidate genes were identified within their corresponding intervals(2B:63.6–70.4 Mb;3B:631.5–633.3 Mb).These genes encode proteins potentially involved in grain size regulation,including a TOR2 regulation-associated protein,erect spike 2(EP2),fibroblast growth factor 6(FGF6),cellulose synthase-like(CSLD),RelA/pot homologue three family protein,and three GDSL esterase/lipase(GLIP)proteins.Additionally,we detected a QTL associated with GW on chromosome 3A and identified two candidate genes,TOR2 regulation and starch synthase within the 61.4–68.5 Mb interval.Overall,this study provides a strong theoretical and technical basis for wheat genetic improvement and offers valuable resources for precise QTL mapping and candidate gene discovery. 展开更多

The Paradigm of Surgical Ellipse Dimensions: Are the Length-to-Width Ratio of 3 to 4 and a Vertex Angle of 30&ordm;Correct?

Background: It has been postulated that elliptical cutaneous excisions must possess a length-to-width ratio of 3 to 4 and a vertex angle of 30o or less in order to be closed primarily without creating a “dog ear”. These dimensions became axiomatic in cutaneous surgery and have been taught in the apprenticeship model for years. The present article examines the validity of that paradigm. Methods: We collected data from two sources: ellipses described in the literature (57 cases);and elliptical excisions performed at the authors’ outpatient clinic (83 cases). The surgical ellipse lengths, widths, and vertex angles were analyzed, and the data were compared to a mathematical formula used to generate a fusiform ellipse. Results: The length-to-width ratio of 3 - 4 was found to be inconsistent with the recommended vertex angle of 30o. In fact, a length-to-width ratio of 3 - 4 determines a vertex angle of 48o - 63o. A 30o vertex angle is only feasible with long length-to-width ration of about 7.5. Conclusions: The paradigm that surgical ellipses should have a vertex angle of 30o with length-to-width ratio of 3 - 4 is incorrect. Evidence from actual surgical practice and from mathematical formulation shows that either the length-to-width ratio must be larger than 3 - 4 or the vertex angle must be larger than 30 degrees. 展开更多

AIM: To measure and analysis axial length(AL)/corneal radius of curvature(CRC) ratio and other refractive parameters, provide a medical reference range for refractive development evaluation and earlier visual impairment screening of 3 to 4 y kindergarten students.METHODS: Between April and June 2017, a total of 4350 participants aged 3-to 4-year-old(8700 eyes) from 10 cluster random sampling kindergartens in Shanghai, Pudong District were involved. According to the measurement and analysis of the unaided visual acuity(VA), AL, CRC, AL/CRC ratio, astigmatism and other refractive parameters, the data distribution and reference range were obtained.RESULTS: Uncorrected VA of examined children was 0.23±0.08(logMAR, mean±SD) [95% confidence interval(CI) range ≤0.36];AL was 22.10±0.79 mm(95%CI 20.55-23.65);CRC was 7.86±0.26 mm(95%CI, 7.35-8.37);AL/CRC ratio was 2.81±0.12(95%CI, 2.57-3.05). The median of astigmatism was-0.5 D, a total of 56.3% had astigmatism <-0.50 D, 85.3%<-1.00 D, 6.7%>-1.50 D;71% were astigmatism with the rule. Eye-specific analyses were conducted. Statistical difference of VA was in right and left eyes. There were no significant differences between two eyes of AL, CRC, AL/CRC ratio and astigmatism(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: VA and AL/CRC ratio reference could be used to assess refractive development in children and screening uncorrected refractive errors or amblyopia. Astigmatism needs to be considered in the diagnosis. 展开更多

The two-step hydro-bulge forming technique was proposed to manufacture the ellipsoidal shell with the length ratio of the long axis to the short axis larger than 1.4. A central tube was introduced into the first step of the hydro-bulge forming process to constrain the over growth of the short axis during bulging,and then the central tube was replaced with two polar plates in the second step of the hydro-bulge forming process to manufacture an integral ellipsoidal shell. It is shown that the central tube restricts the growth of the short axis and simultaneously reduces the shrunk tendency of the long axis. The wrinkling occurs due to the latitudinal compressive stress at the equator at the early stage of hydro-bulge forming. However,with the increase of internal pressure,the compressive stress areas gradually decrease and finally the tensile latitudinal stress occupies approximately the whole shell,thus the wrinkles are eliminated. A sound ellipsoidal shell with the axis length ratio of 1.8 is obtained after two-step hydro bulging. 展开更多

BACKGROUND For compensated advanced chronic liver disease(cACLD)patients,the first decompensation represents a dramatically worsening prognostic event.Based on the first decompensation event(DE),the transition to decompensated advanced chronic liver disease(dACLD)can occur through two modalities referred to as acute decompensation(AD)and non-AD(NAD),respectively.Clinically Significant Portal Hypertension(CSPH)is considered the strongest predictor of decompensation in these patients.However,due to its invasiveness and costs,CSPH is almost never evaluated in clinical practice.Therefore,recognizing noninvasively predicting tools still have more appeal across healthcare systems.The red cell distribution width to platelet ratio(RPR)has been reported to be an indicator of hepatic fibrosis in Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease(MASLD).However,its predictive role for the decompensation has never been explored.AIM In this observational study,we investigated the clinical usage of RPR in predicting DEs in MASLD-related cACLD patients.METHODS Fourty controls and 150 MASLD-cACLD patients were consecutively enrolled and followed up(FUP)semiannually for 3 years.At baseline,biochemical,clinical,and Liver Stiffness Measurement(LSM),Child-Pugh(CP),Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD),aspartate aminotransferase/platelet count ratio index(APRI),Fibrosis-4(FIB-4),Albumin-Bilirubin(ALBI),ALBI-FIB-4,and RPR were collected.During FUP,DEs(timing and modaities)were recorded.CSPH was assessed at the baseline and on DE occurrence according to the available Clinical Practice Guidelines.RESULTS Of 150 MASLD-related cACLD patients,43(28.6%)progressed to dACLD at a median time of 28.9 months(29 NAD and 14 AD).Baseline RPR values were significantly higher in cACLD in comparison to controls,as well as MELD,CP,APRI,FIB-4,ALBI,ALBI-FIB-4,and LSM in dACLD-progressing compared to cACLD individuals[all P<0.0001,except for FIB-4(P:0.007)and ALBI(P:0.011)].Receiving operator curve analysis revealed RPR>0.472 and>0.894 as the best cut-offs in the prediction respectively of 3-year first DE,as well as its superiority compared to the other non-invasive tools examined.RPR(P:0.02)and the presence of baseline-CSPH(P:0.04)were significantly and independently associated with the DE.Patients presenting baseline-CSPH and RPR>0.472 showed higher risk of decompensation(P:0.0023).CONCLUSION Altogether these findings suggest the RPR as a valid and potentially applicable non-invasive tool in the prediction of timing and modalities of decompensation in MASLD-related cACLD patients. 展开更多

BACKGROUND In spite of developing medical technologies to discover the etiopathogenesis of diseases and developments in the treatment of coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes(ACS) continue to be the main cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. New cardiac biomarkers and techniques are needed to help provide rapid diagnosis in order to evaluate risk in coronary artery patients.AIM To evaluate the effects of R to S ratio(RSR) in the electrocardiograph of patients with ACS, from the point of the arising complication after myocardial infarction(MI), to three-vessel disease(TVD) and mortality.METHODS The data of 1,296 patients with ACS, who presented to the emergency department of our hospital with chest pain between January 2014 and December2018 and were admitted to the cardiology clinic, were retrospectively included in this cross-sectional cohort study. Patients with an RSR value less than I were assigned to group Ⅰ, while those with an RSR value greater than Ⅰ were assigned to group Ⅱ.RESULTS In our study, 466(35.9%) of the 1,296 patients, 357(38.3%) in group 1 and 109(29.9%) in group 2, were female, with a mean age of 61.56 ± 9.42. ST-elevation MI 573(44.2%), unstable angina(UA) 502(38.7%) and non ST-elevation MI 220(17%)were more prevalent in group Ⅰ. Acute anterior MI 263(20.3) in group Ⅰ, and acute inferior MI 184(14.2) in group Ⅱ was higher. Ischemic heart failure was the most common complication. In group Ⅱ, the red cell distribution width(RDW) was 15.42 ± 1.82, the gensini score was 48.39 ± 36.44, the left ventricular ejection fraction was 41.17 ± 10.41, the TVD was 111(8.5), and the mortality rate was 72(5.6), which was significantly higher than group Ⅰ RDW; in MI with ST and nonST-elevation, in TVD, mortality and complications were high and low in UA. In single and multivariate regression analyses, the variables were associated with ACS risk.CONCLUSION RSR levels may be an auxiliary predictive value in ACS in terms of complications developing after MI, TVD, and mortality. 展开更多

Twenty-eight male, weaned Chinese Holstein calves((156.8±33.4) kg) were used to investigate the effects of dietary forage to concentrate ratio(F:C) and forage length on nutrient digestibility, plasma metabolites, ruminal fermentation, and fecal microflora. Animals were randomly allocated to four treatments in a 2×2 factorial arrangement: whole-length forage(WL) with low F:C(50:50); WL with high F:C(65:35); short-length forage(SL) with high F:C(65:35); and SL with low F:C(50:50). Chinese wildrye was used as the only forage source in this trial. The grass in the SL treatments was chopped using a chaff cutter to achieve small particle size(-50% particles 〉19 mm). Dry matter intake(DMI) and organic matter(OM) intake was increased by increasing both F:C(P〈0.01) and forage length(FL)(P〈0.05), while acid detergent fiber(ADF) and neutral detergent fiber(NDF) intakes were only increased by increasing the F:C(P〈0.01). The digestibility of NDF was increased as the FL increased(P〈0.01), and it was also affected by interaction between F:C and FL(P〈0.05). Cholesterol(CHO)(P〈0.01), leptin(LP)(P〈0.05), and growth hormone(GH)(P〈0.01) concentrations in plasma were increased as dietary F:C increased. A significant increase in plasma triglyceride(TG)(P〈0.01), insulin(INS)(P〈0.05), and GH(P〈0.01) levels was observed with decreasing dietary FL. Ruminal p H values of calves fed with low F:C diets were significantly lower than those in high F:C treatment(P〈0.05). Increasing the F:C enhanced ruminal acetic acid(P〈0.05) and acetic acid/propionic acid(P〈0.01). Fecal Lactobacillus content was significantly higher, while Escherichia coli and Salmonella contents were significantly lower in WL and high F:C groups(P〈0.05). Lower fecal scores(higher diarrhea rate) were observed in calves fed with SL hay compared to WL hay(P〈0.05). Denatured gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE) bands and richness index(S) were significantly affected by the interaction between F:C and FL(P〈0.05), under high F:C, band numbers and richness index from WL group were higher than that from SL group(P〈0.05), whereas there were no differences between WL andSL groups under low F:C(P〉0.05). AIM:To investigate whether the axial length(AL)/total corneal refractive power(TCRP)ratio is a sensitive and simple factor that can be used for the early diagnosis of Marfan’s syndrome(MFS)in children.METHODS:The relationship between the AL/TCRP ratio and the diagnosis of MFS for 192 eyes in 97 children were evaluate.The biological characteristics,including age,sex,AL,and TCRP,were collected from medical records.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis was performed to investigate whether the AL/TCRP ratio effectively distinguishes MFS from other subjects.The Youden index was used to re-divide the whole population into two groups according to an AL/TCRP ratio of 0.59.RESULTS:Of 96 subjects(mean age 7.46±3.28 y)evaluated,56(110 eyes)had a definite diagnosis of MFS in childhood based on the revised Ghent criteria,41(82 eyes)with diagnosis of congenital ectopia lentis(EL)were included as a control group.AL was negatively correlated with TCRP,with a linear regression coefficient of-0.36(R2=0.08).A significant correlation was found between age and the AL/TCRP ratio(P=0.023).ROC curve analysis showed that the AL/TCRP ratio distinguished MFS from the other patients at a threshold of 0.59.MFS patients were present in 24/58(41.38%)patients with an AL/TCRP ratio of≤0.59 and in 34/39(87.18%)patients with an AL/TCRP ratio of>0.59.CONCLUSION:An AL/TCRP ratio of>0.59 is significantly associated with the risk of MFS.The AL/TCRP ratio should be measured as a promising marker for the prognosis of children MFS.Changes in the AL/TCRP ratio should be monitored over time. 展开更多

The D/W ratio of welds increases significantly with the increase of welding speed without the oscillating of welding torch. It increased (from 0. 14 to 0. 26 ) with the increase of wire feeding speed while the torch oscillating. And it decreased linearly with the increase of torch oscillating amplitude. However, the influelwe of oscillating speed, wire extension and welding voltage on the D/W ratio of welds was not obvious. 展开更多

It is an important factor for the further development of river. Based on the meandering river characterized by a large depth-to-width ratio, a theoretical model is established with the coupling of Navier-Stokes (N-S)~ sediment transport, and bed deformation equations. The flow characteristics and bed response of river are obtained with the perturbation method. The research results show that, under the effect of two- dimensional flow disturbance, the bars and pools present the regular response. For a given sinuousness, the amplitude of the bed response can be used as a criterion to judge the bedform stability. The effects of the Reynolds number, disturbance wavenumber, sinuousness, and bed morphology gradient on the bed response development are described. 展开更多

Based on the volume constancy with equal flow-per-second and elastic sheet stability theory, a coupling relationship among lateral thickness difference, width-to-thickness ratio of cold rolling strip steel under ideal and actual working conditions, and shape is concluded according to the comprehensive influence principle of various factors on the critical instable shape analyzed in-depth. Firstly, the influence model under actual working condition is developed by referring to the basic relationship between lateral thickness difference and shape under ideal condition. The test results prove that for thin strips with thickness below 0.3 mm, their lateral thickness differences have significant effect on the shape. After then, the combined influence of lateral thickness difference and width-to-thickness ratio on the critical instable shape is concluded according to the elastic sheet stability model, with the synthetic effect of these three factors analyzed. Test data indicate that for cold rolling strip steel with width-to-thickness ratio above 3 000, the critical instability stress difference decreases significantly. Actual measurements are conducted on the lateral thickness differences of two rolls of typical strip manufactured by a sixhigh cold mill, with the influence law of lateral thickness variation and width-to-thickness ratio comprehensively investigated. It is demonstrated that during the production of ultrathin strip steel with different width-to-thickness ratios, the loading roll shapes should be fine adjusted according to the lateral thickness difference of input strips.Therefore, the variation of lateral thickness difference of output strips can meet the requirement of shape stability,so as to obtain fine shape. 展开更多

The effect of channel length and width on the large and small-signal parameters of the graphene field effect transistor have been explored using an analytical approach.In the case of faster saturation as well as extremely high transit frequency,the graphene field effect transistor shows outstanding performance.From the transfer curve,it is observed that there is a positive shift of Dirac point from the voltage of 0.15 V to 0.35 V because of reducing channel length from 440 nm to 20 nm and this curve depicts that graphene shows ambipolar behavior.Besides,it is found that because of widening channel the drain current increases and the maximum current is found approximately 2.4 mA and 6 mA for channel width 2μm and 5μm respectively.Furthermore,an approximate symmetrical capacitance-voltage(C-V)characteristic of the graphene field effect transistor is obtained and the capacitance reduces when the channel length decreases but the capacitance can be increased by raising the channel width.In addition,a high transconductance,that demands high-speed radio frequency(RF)applications,of 6.4 mS at channel length 20 nm and 4.45 mS at channel width 5μm along with a high transit frequency of 3.95 THz have been found that demands high-speed radio frequency applications. 展开更多
