Exploring the Difficulties and Challenges of the Local Macao English Language Learners towards the Online Synchronous One-on-one English Learning Class

With the development of technology,the number of English learners who opt for online learning has been increasing.In the past,students had a tendency to download English materials and watch online videos for improving their English skills.Recently,thanks to a shift to online learning,students have been making more use of online synchronous oneon-one English classes to improve their English at leisure.Although this type of learning mode is becoming more and more popular,the study of the difficulties and challenges of English learners in such a field has been under-explored.This study attempts to use a qualitative approach to interview two English learners of different backgrounds to better understand the difficulties and challenges they encountered when using such a learning method.The two interviewees conclude points ranging from the learning aspect,distant feeling,signal delay,instability of the learning software and hardware that lead to technical problems.Certain measures to avoid the problems are also suggested in this paper. 展开更多

Nowadays much concern has been showed on the research of teacher development and an effective way of teacher development, the action research. From the learning of these researches we get clearer that English teaching and learning is a continuous process in which many interrelated and intrinsic factors work together. Furthermore, we know that teachers' beliefs on teaching and learning play an important role in class. During the process of learning and teaching, a teacher's own learning from relevant books on education and learning helps a lot in increase teachers' awareness about English teaching and learning, and improving the classroom teaching. In this paper three effective applications of the results of the research of teacher development are introduced, which shows that a teacher is a decisive factor in the classroom setting and the research and learning about teacher development is useful for a teacher to improve himself or herself as a teacher. 展开更多

This paper aims to verify the family support situation for primary school children with intellectual disabilities learning in regular class and to explore various educational strategies to promote their development.A self-made questionnaire was used in this survey,and the parents of 380 intellectual disabled students were the subjects of this survey.It turns out that the overall family support for intellectual disabled children learning in regular class in China is good,but it is affected by the degree of obstacles.Factors such as grade,gender,and parental education had no significant effect on family support.It is the shared responsibility of the government,schools,and parents to promote the level of family support.Governments at all levels must implement family support projects,schools must carry out family education guidance to impart scientific parenting knowledge,and parents must take note of their own responsibilities,so as to promote the physical and mental development of children with intellectual disabilities. 展开更多

Revisiting multi-dimensional classification from a dimension-wise perspective

Real-world objects exhibit intricate semantic properties that can be characterized from a multitude of perspectives, which necessitates the development of a model capable of discerning multiple patterns within data, while concurrently predicting several Labeling Dimensions (LDs) — a task known as Multi-dimensional Classification (MDC). While the class imbalance issue has been extensively investigated within the multi-class paradigm, its study in the MDC context has been limited due to the imbalance shift phenomenon. A sample’s classification as a minor or major class instance becomes ambiguous when it belongs to a minor class in one LD and a major class in another. Previous MDC methodologies predominantly emphasized instance-wise criteria, neglecting prediction capabilities from a dimension aspect, i.e., the average classification performance across LDs. We assert the significance of dimension-wise metrics in real-world MDC applications and introduce two such metrics. Furthermore, we observe imbalanced class distributions within each LD and propose a novel Imbalance-Aware fusion Model (IMAM) for addressing the MDC problem. Specifically, we first decompose the task into multiple multi-class classification problems, creating imbalance-aware deep models for each LD separately. This straightforward method performs well across LDs without sacrificing performance in instance-wise criteria. Subsequently, we employ LD-wise models as multiple teachers and transfer their knowledge across all LDs to a unified student model. Experimental results on several real-world datasets demonstrate that our IMAM approach excels in both instance-wise evaluations and the proposed dimension-wise metrics. 展开更多

Semi-supervised sound event detection(SSED)tasks typically leverage a large amount of unlabeled and synthetic data to facilitate model generalization during training,reducing overfitting on a limited set of labeled data.However,the generalization training process often encounters challenges from noisy interference introduced by pseudo-labels or domain knowledge gaps.To alleviate noisy interference in class distribution learning,we propose an efficient semi-supervised class distribution learning method through dynamic prompt tuning,named prompting class distribution optimization(PADO).Specifically,when modeling real labeled data,PADO dynamically incorporates independent learnable prompt tokens to explore prior knowledge about the true distribution.Then,the prior knowledge serves as prompt information,dynamically interacting with the posterior noisy-class distribution information.In this case,PADO achieves class distribution optimization while maintaining model generalization,leading to a significant improvement in the efficiency of class distribution learning.Compared with state-of-the-art methods on the SSED datasets from DCASE 2019,2020,and 2021 challenges,PADO achieves significant performance improvements.Furthermore,it is readily extendable to other benchmark models. 展开更多
