The truncated Newton method is used to update the variables with indices outside of the active set, while the projected gradient method is used to update the active variables. At each iterative level, the search direction consists of three parts, one of which is a subspace truncated Newton direction, the other two are subspace gradient and modified gradient directions. The subspace truncated Newton direction is obtained by solving a sparse system of linear equations. The global convergence and quadratic convergence rate of the algorithm are proved and some numerical tests are given.展开更多

The basic equations of the method are first set up, and then the mode cut-off principle and the dividing principle are proposed. MATLAB is used for simulation in different frame structures. The simulation results demonstrate the applicability of this substructure method to civil engineering structures and the correctness of the proposed mode cut-off principle. Studies are also conducted on how to divide the whole structure for better computation efficiency while maintaining better precision. It is observed that the geometry and material properties should be considered, and the synthesis results would be more precise when the inflection points of the mode shapes are taken into consideration. Furthermore, the simulation performed on a large-scale high-rise connected structure further proves the feasibility and efficiency of this modal synthesis method compared with the traditional global method. It is also concluded from the simulation results that the fewer number of DOFs in each substructure will result in better computation efficiency, but too many substructures will be time-consuming due to the tedious synthesis procedures. Moreover, the substructures with free interface will introduce errors and reduce the precision dramatically, which should be avoided.展开更多

文摘Major interactions are known to trigger star formation in galaxies and alter their color. We study the major interactions in filaments and sheets using SDSS data to understand the influence of large-scale environments on galaxy interactions. We identify the galaxies in filaments and sheets using the local dimension and also find the major pairs residing in these environments. The star formation rate(SFR) and color of the interacting galaxies as a function of pair separation are separately analyzed in filaments and sheets. The analysis is repeated for three volume limited samples covering different magnitude ranges. The major pairs residing in the filaments show a significantly higher SFR and bluer color than those residing in the sheets up to the projected pair separation of~50 kpc.We observe a complete reversal of this behavior for both the SFR and color of the galaxy pairs having a projected separation larger than 50 kpc. Some earlier studies report that the galaxy pairs align with the filament axis.Such alignment inside filaments indicates anisotropic accretion that may cause these differences. We do not observe these trends in the brighter galaxy samples. The pairs in filaments and sheets from the brighter galaxy samples trace relatively denser regions in these environments. The absence of these trends in the brighter samples may be explained by the dominant effect of the local density over the effects of the large-scale environment.

文摘A modified shifting bottleneck algorithm was proposed to solve scheduling problems of a large-scale job shop.Firstly,a new structured algorithm was employed for sub-problems so as to reduce the computational burden and suit for large-scale instances more effectively. The modified cycle avoidance method, incorporating with the disjunctive graph model and topological sort algorithm, was applied to guaranteeing the feasibility of solutions with considering delayed precedence constraints. Finally, simulation experiments were carried out to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the modified method. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can solve the large-scale job shop scheduling problems(JSSPs) within a reasonable period of time and obtaining satisfactory solutions simultaneously.

文摘The widespread utilisation of tunnel boring machines(TBMs)in underground construction engineering requires a detailed investigation of the cutter-rock interaction. In this paper,we conduct a series of largescale standing rotary cutting tests on granite in conjunction with high-fidelity numerical simulations based on a particle-type discrete element method(DEM)to explore the effects of key cutting parameters on the TBM cutter performance and the distribution of cutter-rock contact stresses. The assessment results of cutter performance obtained from the cutting tests and numerical simulations reveal similar dependencies on the key cutting parameters.More specifically, the normal and rolling forces exhibit a positive correlation with penetration but are slightly influenced by the cutting radius. In contrast, the side force decreases as the cutting radius increases.Additionally, the side force shows a positive relationship with the penetration for smaller cutting radii but tends to become negative as the cutting radius increases. The cutter's relative effectiveness in rock breaking is significantly impacted by the penetration but shows little dependency on the cutting radius.Consequently,an optimal penetration is identified, leading to a low boreability index and specific energy.A combined Hertz-Weibull function is developed to fit the cutter-rock contact stress distribution obtained in DEM simulations, whereby an improved CSM(Colorado School of Mines)model is proposed by replacing the original monotonic cutting force distribution with this combined Hertz-Weibull model. The proposed model outperforms the original CSM model as demonstrated by a comparison of the estimated cutting forces with those from the tests/simulations.The findings from this work that advance our understanding of TBM cutter performance have important implications for improving the efficiency and reliability of TBM tunnelling in granite.

文摘With the rapid integration of renewable energy,wide-band oscillations caused by interactions between power electronic equipment and grids have emerged as one of the most critical stability issues.Existing methods are usually studied for local power systems with around one hundred nodes. However, for a large-scale power system with tens of thousands of nodes, the dimension of transfer function matrix or the order of characteristic equation is much higher. In this case, the existing methods such as eigenvalue analysis method and impedance-based method have difficulty in computation and are thus hard to utilize in practice. To fill this gap, this paper proposes a novel method named the smallest eigenvalues based logarithmic derivative(SELD)method. It obtains the dominant oscillation modes by the logarithmic derivative of the k-smallest eigenvalue curves of the sparse extended nodal admittance matrix(NAM).An oscillatory stability analysis tool is further developed based on this method. The effectiveness of the method and the tool is validated through a local power system as well as a large-scale power system.

文摘We investigate a hybrid numerical algorithm aimed at large-scale cosmological N-body simulation for on-going and future high precision sky surveys. It makes use of a truncated Fast Multiple Method(FMM)for short-range gravity, incorporating a Particle Mesh(PM)method for long-range potential, which is applied to deal with extremely large particle number. In this work,we present a specific strategy to modify a conventional FMM by a Gaussian shaped factor and provide quantitative expressions for the interaction kernels between multipole expansions. Moreover,a proper Multipole Acceptance Criterion for the hybrid method is introduced to solve potential precision loss induced by the truncation.Such procedures reduce the amount of computation compared to an original FMM and decouple the global communication.A simplified version of code is introduced to verify the hybrid algorithm, accuracy and parallel implementation.
