Peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)are an effective way to remove emerging contaminants(ECs)from water. The catalytic process involving PMS is hindered by the suboptimal electron trans-fer efficiency of current catalysts, the further application of AOPs technology is limited. Here,it is proposed that the interfacial electric field can be controlled by bor(B)-doped FeNC catalysts, which shows significant advantages in the efficient generation, release and participation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)in the reaction. The super exchange interaction between Fe sites and N and B sites is realized through the directional transfer of electrons in the interfacial electric field, which ensures the high efficiency and stability of the PMS catalytic process.B doping increases the d orbitals distribution at Fermi level, which facilitates enhanced electron transition activity, thereby promoting the effective generation of (1)^O_(2).At the same time, orbital hybridization causes the center of the d band to move to a lower energy level, which not only contributes to the desorption process of (1)^O_(2),but also accelerates its release. In addition,B-doping also improved the adsorption capacity of organic pollutants and shortened the migration distance of ROS,thereby significantly improving the degradation efficiency of ECs.The B-doping strategy outlined offers a novel approach to the development of FeNC catalysts,it lays a theoretical foundation and offers technical insights for the integration of PMS/AOPs technology in the ECs management. 展开更多

Photon upconversion has received substantial attention owing to its great promise in broad applications from bioimaging to other frontier fields like display, upconversion laser, information security and anticounterfeiting.A smart control and manipulation of the upconversion luminescence has always been a key topic, however,to date the most efficient mechanism for upconversion nanoparticles remains the energy transfer upconversion and recently reported energy migration mediated upconversion.Recently,we found that the interfacial energy transfer(IET)is also an efficient approach for enabling and tuning photon upconversion of lanthanide ions. Moreover,it can be used for the mechanistic understanding of the interionic interactions such as energy transfer and energy migration on the nanoscale. In this review, the recent advances of the research on the IET are summarized, the principles for designing IET process and typical examples are discussed together with its applications in both mechanistic research and frontier information security. The challenges and perspectives for future research are also commented. 展开更多

Vacuum die casting can reduce the'air entrapment'phenomenon during casting process.Based on the temperature measurements at metal-die interface with different processing parameters, such as slow shot speed(VL),high shot speed(VH),pouring temperature(Tp)and initial die temperature(Tm),inverse method was developed to determine the interfacial heat transfer coefficient(IHTC).The results indicate that a closer contact between the casting and die could be achieved when the vacuum system is used.It is found that the vacuum could strongly increase the values of IHTC and decrease the grain size in castings. The IHTC could have a higher peak value with increasing the Tp from680to720℃or the VL from0.1to0.4m/s.In addition, the influence of the VH and Tm on IHTC could be negligible. 展开更多

As an advanced near-net shape technology, squeeze casting is an excellent method for producing high integrity castings. Numerical simulation is a very effective method to optimize squeeze casting process, and the interfacial heat transfer coefficient(IHTC) is an important boundary condition in numerical simulation. Therefore, the study of the IHTC is of great significance. In the present study, experiments were conducted and a "plate shape" aluminum alloy casting was cast in H13 steel die. In order to obtain accurate temperature readings inside the die, a special temperature sensor units(TSU) was designed. Six 1 mm wide and 1 mm deep grooves were machined in the sensor unit for the placement of the thermocouples whose tips were welded to the end wall. Each groove was machined to terminate at a particular distance(1, 3, and 6 mm) from the front end of the sensor unit. Based on the temperature measurements inside the die, the interfacial heat transfer coefficient(IHTC) at the metal-die interface was determined by applying an inverse approach. The acquired data were processed by a low pass filtering method based on Fast Fourier Transform(FFT). The feature of the IHTC at the metal-die interface was discussed. 展开更多

The high pressure die casting (HPDC) process is one of the fastest growing and most efficient methods for the production of complex shape castings of magnesium and aluminum alloys in today's manufacturing industry. In this study, a high pressure die casting experiment using AZ91D magnesium alloy was conducted, and the temperature profiles inside the die were measured. By using a computer program based on solving the inverse heat problem, the metal/die interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) was calculated and studied. The results show that the IHTC between the metal and die increases right after the liquid metal is brought into the cavity by the plunger, and decreases as the solidification process of the liquid metal proceeds until the liquid metal is completely solidified, when the IHTC tends to be stable. The interfacial heat transfer coefficient shows different characteristics under different casting wall thicknesses and varies with the change of solidification behavior. 展开更多

High pressure die casting copper is used to produce rotors for induction motors to improve efficiency.Experiments were carried out for a special"step-shape"casting with different step thicknesses.Based on the measured temperature inside the die,the interfacial heat transfer coefficient(IHTC)at the metal/die interface during vacuum die casting was evaluated by solving the inverse problem. The IHTC peak value was 4.5×10^3-11×10^3 W·m^-2·K^-1 under the basic operation condition. The influences of casting pressure, fast shot speed, pouring temperature and initial die surface temperature on the IHTC peak values were investigated. Results show that a greater casting pressure and faster shot speed could only increase the IHTC peak values at the location close to the ingate. An increase of pouring temperature and/or initial die surface temperature significantly increases the IHTC peak values. 展开更多

Specially designed fibers are widely used in engineering practice because the specially-designed shape can help to improve the bonding strength of the fiber and the interface. Studied in this paper is the interfacial shear stress transfer behavior on both sides of the specially designed fiber when it is being pulled out; in which automatic analysis of three-dimensional photoelasticity is employed and the finite element method is adopted. The results show that the stress transfer occurs mainly in the region near the fiber's embedded end where the stress reaches its critical point, leading to debonding of the interface. Before debonding, as the pullout loading increases, the peak value of shear stress transfers along the fiber from the embedded end to the interior of the matrix, and then stops at the hooked part of the fiber because of its impediment. When the interface begins to debond as the load increases, the shear stress can be transferred to the hooked part. 展开更多

As one of the key boundary conditions during casting solidification process, the interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) affects the temperature variation and distribution. Based on the improved nonlinear estimation method (NEM), thermal measurements near both bottom and lateral metal-mold interfaces throughout A356 gravity casting process were carried out and applied to solving the inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP). Finite element method (FEM) is employed for modeling transient thermal fields implementing a developed NEM interface program to quantify transient IHTCs. It is found that IHTCs at the lateral interface become stable after the volumetric shrinkage of casting while those of the bottom interface reach the steady period once a surface layer has solidified. The stable value of bottom IHTCs is 750 W/(m^2·℃), which is approximately 3 times that at the lateral interface. Further analysis of the interplay between spatial IHTCs and observed surface morphology reveals that spatial heat transfer across casting-mold interfaces is the direct result of different interface evolution during solidification process. 展开更多

The Haber-Bosch process for industrial NH_(3) production is energy-intensive with heavy CO_(2) emissions.Electrochemical N_(2) reduction reaction(NRR)is an attractive carbon-neutral alternative for NH_(3) synthesis, while the challenge associated with N_(2) activation highlights the demand for efficient electrocatalysts.Herein,we demonstrate that PdCu nanoparticles with different Pd/Cu ratios anchored on boron nanosheet(PdCu/B)behave as efficient NRR electrocatalysts toward NH_(3) synthesis.Theoretical and experimental results confirm that the highly efficient NH_(3) synthesis can be achieved by regulating the charge transfer between interfaces and forming a symmetry-breaking site, which not only alleviates the hydrogen evolution but also changes the adsorption configuration of N_(2) and thus optimizes the reaction pathway of NRR over the separated Pd sites.Compared with monometallic Pd/B and Cu/B,the PdCu/B with the optimized Pd/Cu ratio of 1 exhibits superior activity and selectivity for NH_(3) synthesis. This study provides new insight into developing efficient catalysts for small energy molecule catalytic conversion via regulating the charge transfer between interfaces and constructing symmetry-breaking sites. 展开更多

The charge carrier separation efficiency and the adsorption capacity of the photocatalyst usually affect the degradation rate of antibiotics.Herein,Cerium-doped leaf-like CdS(Ce-CdS)modified with ultrathin N-doped rGO(N-rGO)composites were successfully constructed(Ce-CdS/N-rGO)to investigate the removal efficiency of tetracycline(TC).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and photoelectrochemical results revealed that Ce ions doped in CdS acting as the electron capture sites facilitated the interfacial charge transfer.Theoretical calculation(DFT)results indicated that the interfacial effect between Ce-CdS and ultrathin N-rGO promoted the transfer of photogenerated electrons under the synergistic effect between the doping and interface modification strategy. The optimized Ce5-CdS/N-rGO20 composites had the maximum TC removal capability(94.5%)and maintained a stable cycling performance. In addition, the adsorption-driven photocatalytic degradation pathway of TC was studied through mass spectrometry(MS)and in-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(in-situ FTIR).This study will provide an effective strategy for the construction of efficient photocatalytic composites for wastewater treatment. 展开更多

Modelling and simulations are conducted on velocity slip and interfacial momentum transfer for supersonic two-pha.se (gas-droplet) flow in the transient section inside and outside a Laval jet(LJ). The initial velocity slip between gas and droplets causes an interfacial momentum transfer flux as high as (2.0-5.0) x 104 Pa. The relaxation time corresponding to this transient process is in the range of 0.015-0.090ms for the two-phase flow formed inside the LJ and less than 0.5ms outside the LJ. It demonstrates the unique performance of this system for application to fast chemical reactions using electrically active media with a lifetime in the order of 1 ms. Through the simulations of the transient processes with initial Mach number Mg from 2.783 to 4.194 at different axial positions inside the LJ, it is found that Mg has the strongest effect on the process. The momentum flux increases as the Mach number decreases. Due to compression by the shock wave at the end of the LJ, the flow pattern becomes two dimensional and viscous outside the LJ. Laser Doppler velocirneter (LDV) measurements of droplet velocities outside the LJ are in reasonably good agreement with the results of the simulation. 展开更多

Compared to the resin sand mold casting process, frozen casting is more environmentally friendly, providing a better working environment and enhanced supercooling degree. The interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) between frozen sand mold and metal is an important parameter that significantly influences the final mechanical properties and microstructure of the castings. This paper solved the inverse heat conduction problem using the finite difference method (FDM). In addition, the conjugate gradient method (CGM) was adopted to calculate the temperature distribution and heat flux in the molten metal. At the same time, the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) was used in temperature distribution determination in frozen sand mold. The interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) was estimated during the solidification of ZL101. The results showed a good agreement between calculated and experimental data, obtaining accurate casting interface temperature Tm, frozen sand mold interface temperature Ts, heat flux q, and IHTC. The analysis of the IHTC variation revealed a water content value within the range of 4 wt.% to 5 wt.% resulted in IHTC in two types of interpretation, called ‘fluctuation type’ and ‘turning type’. 展开更多

With tunable local electronic environment, high mass density of MN4sites,and ease of preparation,metal-organic conjugated coordinative polymer(CCP) with inherent electronic conductivity provides a promising alternative to the well-known M-N-C electrocatalysts.Herein, the coordination reaction between Cu^(2+)and 1,2,4,5-tetraaminobenzene(TAB) was conducted on the surface of metallic Cu nanowires, forming a thin layer of CuN4-based CCP(Cu-TAB) on the Cu nanowire.More importantly, interfacial transfer of electrons from Cu core to the CuN4-based CCP nanoshell was observed within the resulting CuTAB@Cu,which was found to enrich the local electronic density of the CuN4sites.As such, the CuTAB@Cu demonstrates much improved affinity to the*COOH intermediate formed from the rate determining step;the energy barrier for C-C coupling, which is critical to convert CO_(2)into C2products,is also decreased.Accordingly,it delivers a current density of-9.1 mA cm^(-2)at a potential as high as 0.558 V(vs.RHE) in H-type cell and a Faraday efficiency of 46.4% for ethanol. This work emphasizes the profound role of interfacial interaction in tuning the local electronic structure and activating the CuN4-based CCPs for efficient electroreduction of CO_(2). 展开更多

The interfacial heat transfer coefficient(IHTC)is one of the main input parameters required by casting simulation software. It plays an important role in the accurate modeling of the solidification process. However, its value is not easily identifiable by means of experimental methods requiring temperature measurements during the solidification process itself. For these reasons,an optimal experiment design was performed in this study to determine the optimal position for the temperature measurement and the optimal thickness of the rectangular cast iron part. This parameter was identified using an inverse technique. In particular, two different algorithms were used:Levenberg Marquard(LM)and Monte Carlo(MC).A numerical model of the solidification process was associated with the optimization algorithm. The temperature was measured at different positions from the mould/metal interface at d=0 mm(mould/metal interface),30 mm,60 mm and 90 mm.the thicknesses of the cast part were:L1=40 mm,60 mm and 80 mm.A comparative study on the IHTC identification was then carried out by varying the initial value of the IHTC between 500 Wm^(-2)K^(-1) and 1050 Wm^(-2)K^(-1).Results showed that the MC algorithm used for estimating the IHTC gives the best results, and the optimal position was at d=30 mm,the position closest to the mould/metal interface, for the lowest thickness L1=40 mm. 展开更多

The modulation of electrical properties of MoS_2 has attracted extensive research interest because of its potential applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices.Herein, interfacial charge transfer induced electronic property tuning of MoS_2 are investigated by in situ ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements.A downward band-bending of MoS_2-related electronic states along with the decreasing work function, which are induced by the electron transfer from Cs overlayers to MoS_2,is observed after the functionalization of MoS_2 with Cs,leading to n-type doping.Meanwhile, when MoS_2 is modified with 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane(F_4-TCNQ),an upward band-bending of MoS_2-related electronic states along with the increasing work function is observed at the interfaces. This is attributed to the electron depletion within MoS_2 due to the strong electron withdrawing property of F_4-TCNQ,indicating p-type doping of MoS_2.Our findings reveal that surface transfer doping is an effective approach for electronic property tuning of MoS_2 and paves the way to optimize its performance in electronic and optoelectronic devices. 展开更多
