Coal-derived hard carbon(HC)represents a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries owing to its cost-effectiveness and high carbon yield. However, conventional carbonization induces excessive graphitization, yielding insufficient interlayer spacing(d_(002)<0.37 nm)and underdeveloped closed pores.Herein,we propose a dynamic crystallization control strategy through carbothermal shock treatment(1300°C,30 s)that decouples thermodynamic and kinetic constraints. This method precisely modulates graphite domain ordering kinetics, producing short-range ordered structures with expanded interlayer spacing(d_(002)=0.385 nm)and homogeneously distributed closed nanopores.Through combined in situ characterization and first-principles calculations,we elucidate a three-stage crystallization mechanism:(i)amorphous carbon transformation,(ii)open-pore collapse,and(iii)pseudo-graphitic ordering. The optimized HC achieves record performance with 88.6%initial Coulombic efficiency and 204 mA h g^(−1)plateau capacity, while its optimal interlayer spacing lowers Na+diffusion barriers to enable exceptional rate capability(221 mA h g^(−1)at 0.5C after 300 cycles).Practical pouch cells maintain 85%capacity retention after 100 cycles at−20°C and deliver 284 Wh kg^(−1)energy density. This work establishes a kinetic regulation paradigm for graphitization-prone precursors, advancing the rational design of high-performance HC anodes. 展开更多

The stress-strain behavior of calcareous sand is significantly influencedby particle breakage(B)and initial relative density(Dri),but few constitutive models consider their combined effects. To bridge this gap,we conducted a series of triaxial tests on calcareous sand with varying Dri and stress paths, examining particle breakage and critical state behavior.Key findingsinclude:(1)At a constant stress ratio(η),B follows a hyperbolic relationship with mean effective stress(p'),and for a given p',B increases proportionally withη;(2)The critical state line(CSL)moves downward with increasing Dri,whereas the critical state friction angle(φcs)decreases with increasing B.Based on these findings,we propose a unifiedbreakage evolution model to quantify particle breakage in calcareous sand under various loading conditions.Integrating this model with the Normal Consolidation Line(NCL)and CSL equations,we successfully simulate the steepening of NCL and CSL slopes as B increases with the onset of particle breakage.Furthermore,we quantitatively evaluate the effect of B onφcs.Finally, within the framework of Critical State Soil Mechanics and Hypoplasticity theory,we develop a hypoplastic model incorporating B and Dri.The model is validated through strong agreement with experimental results across various initial relative densities, stress paths and drainage conditions. 展开更多

In deep coal mining, surrounding rock is subjected to both high in-situ stress and intense mining disturbances, leading to significant time-dependent behavior.Accurately capturing this behavior is essential for predicting long-term roadway stability, necessitating the development of a reliable constitutive creep model and numerical simulation approach. In this study, creep experiments were conducted on pre-damaged rock with varying initial damage levels to investigate the time-dependent mechanical properties.Based on the experimental results,an accelerated-creep criterion was proposed, and an elastic-viscoplastic creep damage model(EVPCD)was established that simultaneously considers the effects of time-dependent damage and instantaneous damage caused by stress disturbances on rock creep behavior.Subsequently, the effectiveness of the proposed creep model was verified using experimental data, and the secondary development of the EVPCD model was completed based on the FLAC3D platform.Following this,a long-term stability analysis method of deep surrounding rock that accounts for excavation-and mining-induced disturbances was proposed.Using the main roadway of Xutuan Coal Mine as a case study, numerical simulations were carried out to investigate the time-dependent deformation and failure characteristics of the surrounding rock following excavation and mining disturbance.Combined with on-site monitoring of the surrounding rock damage areas, the results indicate that the EVPCD outperforms the CVISC and Nishihara models in predicting the time-dependent behavior of deep surrounding rock. 展开更多

Understanding the shakedown behavior of fill material is paramount to estimate the deformation stability of railway subgrade.Especially for red mudstone fill material(RMF),the noticeable overestimation of bearing capacity would be encountered if the conventional strength method is used. This paper presents the shakedown analysis on RMF,with a specific emphasis on the effect of water content.A series of cyclic triaxial tests with 50,000 loading cycles was conducted.Two-stage behavior of permanent deformation and dissipated energy responses was clearly characterized, from which an energy-based criterion was proposed to determine the shakedown limits. The proposed energy-based criterion was validated by examining its performance to various geomaterials including cohesive soils and unbound granular materials(UGMs).By applying the proposed method to RMF,the S-shape evolution curve was obtained in terms of shakedown limits with initial suction.Microfabric difference was believed as the main consequence of the S-shape mode.Demonstration was confirmed by the mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)and scanning electron microscope(SEM)analyses.By applying the proposed method to different geomaterials,an extensive comparison was made between the shakedown limits and the static shear strength. The ratio of shakedown limits to the static shear strength for saturated RMF specimen fell within the range of soft clays, while that of unsaturated specimen lies within the range of UGMs. 展开更多

Freeze-thaw cycles(FTCs)have an important effect on soil aggregate stability by altering soil structures, thereby influencing soil wind and water erosion on the eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. However, the effects of FTCs on the stability of these soils remain unclear. Here,we conducted freeze-thaw simulations in laboratory to investigate the effects of FTCs(0 to 15 cycles)on the wet-and dry-sieving aggregate stability of undisturbed sandy loam from Maqu county, which was treated with different initial soil moisture contents(1%to 25%in increments of 4%)and initial aggregate diameters(<2,2-5,5-10,and 10-15 mm). Results show that soil aggregates with initial diameters larger than 2 mm exhibit higher soil organic carbon contents(1.45%-1.57%)and silt contents(34.63%-35.52%)than those smaller than 2 mm(0.93%and 31.38%,respectively).The stability of both wet-and dry-sieving aggregates increases with larger initial diameters.Increasing initial soil moisture content from 1%to 25%reduces aggregate stability, with reductions of 2.4%-88.0%for wet-sieving aggregates and 2.1%-25.5%for dry-sieving aggregates(>2 mm). With increasing FTCs,wet-sieving aggregate(>2 mm)stability exhibits a fluctuating upward trend, with increases of 79.2%-87.4%after 15 FTCs,while dry-sieving aggregate(>2 mm)stability decreases significantly(5.7%-21.7%)upon the first FTC and remains unchanged thereafter. The stability of both the wet-and dry-sieving aggregates smaller than 2 mm remains unchanged with increasing FTCs(p>0.05).SOC content decreases by 22.3%on average with increasing FTCs from 1 to 15 and shows no significant correlations with wet-and dry-sieving aggregate stability.Higher silt content(r=0.39,p<0.05)and lower sand content(r=-0.38,p<0.05)enhances the wet-sieving aggregate stability of sandy loam.Frequent FTCs tend to improve wet-sieving aggregate stability but reduce dry-sieving aggregate stability in the sandy loam. The findings provide certain guidance for preventing freeze-thaw-induced wind erosion. 展开更多

To investigate the long-term stability of soft-hard interbedded rock masses with initial damage induced by earthquakes and periodic drying and wetting, this study prepared samples with different initial damage through cyclic loading and unloading(CLU)experiments followed by cyclic drying and wetting(CDW)experiments, and finally conducted creep experiments. The study analyzed the effects of initial damage on creep mechanical behavior, crack evolution, and explored failure precursor information, revealing the damage failure mechanisms. The results show that the structural characteristics of the rock mass control its macroscopic failure mode.Initial damage promotes microcrack development, influences the fracture mode, and increases the proportion of high-frequency(200−280 kHz)acoustic emission events during creep.Meanwhile, initial damage exacerbates creep characteristics, increasing the creep rate, shortening total creep failure time, and reducing long-term strength. The damage failure is attributed to:the generation of internal cracks and pores in the rock caused by CLU;mineral hydrolysis and expansion-contraction due to CDW,resulting in weakened intergranular cementation;and full development of cracks and pores under creep stress.Additionally, the deformation difference coefficient and the coefficient of variation of RA/AF values can serve as precursor indicators for creep failure. 展开更多

The cemented tailings backfill(CTB)with initial defects is more prone to destabilization damage under the influence of various unfavorable factors during the mining process. In order to investigate its influence on the stability of underground mining engineering, this paper simulates the generation of different degrees of initial defects inside the CTB by adding different contents of air-entraining agent(AEA),investigates the acoustic emission RA/AF eigenvalues of CTB with different contents of AEA under uniaxial compression, and adopts various denoising algorithms(e.g.,moving average smoothing, median filtering, and outlier detection)to improve the accuracy of the data. The variance and autocorrelation coefficients of RA/AF parameters were analyzed in conjunction with the critical slowing down(CSD)theory. The results show that the acoustic emission RA/AF values can be used to characterize the progressive damage evolution of CTB.The denoising algorithm processed the AE signals to reduce the effects of extraneous noise and anomalous spikes.Changes in the variance curves provide clear precursor information, while abrupt changes in the autocorrelation coefficient can be used as an auxiliary localization warning signal. The phenomenon of dramatic increase in the variance and autocorrelation coefficient curves during the compression-tightening stage, which is influenced by the initial defects, can lead to false warnings. As the initial defects of the CTB increase, its instability precursor time and instability time are prolonged, the peak stress decreases, and the time difference between the CTB and the instability damage is smaller. The results provide a new method for real-time monitoring and early warning of CTB instability damage. 展开更多

The creep response, mechanical properties, and microstructure evolution of the Al−Zn−Mg−Cu alloy were investigated under different initial heat treatment conditions. The results indicate that the density of geometrically necessary dislocations(GNDs)increases during the initial creep stage(<0.5 h)and undergoes dynamic changes in the stable creep stage.During creep aging, the dislocation distribution within the grains becomes more uniform, and additional subgrains are formed. The key factors influencing creep behavior are crystal orientation and the degree of initial precipitation.Grains oriented in the<001>and<101>directions are more susceptible to deformation during the creep process.Based on a strength model, the inhibitory effects of the η'phase in T6 specimens and the GP I zone in T4 specimens on dislocation motion were evaluated. This study demonstrates that selecting an appropriate initial precipitation state is an effective strategy to enhance the creep aging response and to produce high-performance components. 展开更多

To enhance the deformation capacity of vertical support columns of underground structures and improve their overall seismic performance,a new truncated column connected by unbonded prestressed tendons is proposed, inspired by the concepts of the toughness seismic resistance and rocking design.Although many experimental and numerical studies have focused on underground structures, research on the behavior of truncated columns remains limited. This paper develops threedimensional(3D)finite element(FE)models for various columns, including cast-in-place column(CIPC)and prestressed tendon truncated column(PTTC),to evaluate the effects of three parameters, including axial compression ratio(ACR),initial tendon stress, and the effect of hole diameter on mechanical performance—specifically deformation capacity, strength, residual deformation and gap width. The results indicate that the deformability and self-centering ability of the prestressed tendon truncated column is obviously superior to the cast-in-place column, but its strength was comparatively lower. The axial compression ratio has obvious effects on seismic performance, especially deformation and residual deformation, while initial tendon stress and hole diameter influence performance only in the case of a small axial compression ratio. This study systematically identifies the influence of various factors on seismic performance.Additionally, this study proposes a method to evaluate the self-centering capability of structures and establishes an empirical relationship between maximum recoverable deformation and the axial compression ratio. The developed numerical model can serve as a tool for future studies to predict the seismic responses of overall subway stations that feature truncated columns. 展开更多

The models constructed by particle flow simulation method can effectively simulate the heterogeneous substance characteristics and failure behaviors of rocks. However, existing contact models overlook the rock cracks, and the various simulation methods that do consider cracks still exhibit certain limitations. In this paper, based on Flat-Joint model and Linear Parallel Bond model,a crack contact model considering linked substance in the crack is proposed by splitting the crack contact into two portions:linked portion and unlinked portion for calculation. The new contact model considers the influence of crack closure on the contact force-displacement law.And a better compressive tensile strength ratio(UCS/T)was obtained by limiting the failure of the contact bond to be solely controlled by the contact force and moment of the linked portion. Then,by employing the FISH Model tool within the Particle Flow Code, the contact model was constructed and verified through contact force–displacement experiments and loading-unloading tests with cracked model. Finally, the contact model was tested through simulations of rock mechanics experiments. The results indicate that the contact model can effectively simulate the axial and lateral strain laws of rocks simultaneously and has a relatively good reproduction of the bi-modularity of rocks. 展开更多

During the initial impoundment period of a canyon-shaped reservoir, the water body fluctuated violently regarding water level, hydrological condition, and thermal stratification. These variations may alter the structure of phytoplankton community, resulting in algal blooms and seriously threatening the ecological security of the reservoir. It is of great significance to understand the continuous changes of phytoplankton in the initial impoundment period for the protection of reservoir water quality. Therefore,a two-year in-situ monitoring study was conducted on water quality and phytoplankton in a representative canyonshaped reservoir named Sanhekou and the interannual changes of phytoplankton community and its response to environmental changes during the initial impoundment period were discussed at taxonomic versus functional classification levels. The results showed that the total nitrogen and permanganate index levels were relatively high in the first year due to rapid water storage and heavy rainfall input, and the more stable hydrological conditions in the second year promoted the increase of algae density and the transformation of community, and the proportion of cyanobacteria increased significantly. The succession order of phytoplankton in the first year of the initial impoundment periodwas Chlorophyta-Bacillariophyta-Chlorophyta,or J/F/X1-P/MP/W1-A/X1/MP,respectively.And the succession order in the second year was Cyanobacteria/Chlorophyta-Bacillariophyta-Chlorophyta,or L_(M)/G/P-P/A/X1-X1/J/G.Water temperature, relativewater column stability, mixing depth, and pHwere crucial factors affecting phytoplankton community succession. This study revealed the interannual succession law and driving factors of phytoplankton in the initial impoundment period and provided an important reference for the operation management and ecological protection of canyon-shaped reservoirs. 展开更多

Controlling surface chemistry is critically important for improving the initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and adsorption capacity of hard carbon anode used in Li/Na/K-ion batteries. However, accurately identifying the types and concentrations of hydrogen/oxygen terminated functional groups(HTFG/OTFGs)and distinguishing their functionalities remain challenge.Herein,we quantitatively investigated the surface chemistry on hard carbon via ultra-high temperature programed desorption measurements, and uncovered the role of HTFG/OTFGs in influencing ICE and adsorption capacity in Li/Na/K-ions cells. The C-H group is found to be dominant species on the surface of hard carbon, and presents a positive correlation with ICE values and adsorption capacity. The low reactivity of C-H group with both electrolyte salt and solvent results in the formation of thinner and highly conducive solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)layer, which benefit for the enhanced ICE and improved Li/Na/K-ions diffusion across SEI layer.Additionally, the pimping trapping effect of C-H groups allows the adsorbed Li/Na/K-ions to migrate into graphitic interlayer quickly, enhancing the slope capacity.By fabricating a C-H group-rich surface chemistry on hard carbon,a high ICE value and satisfactory specific capacity have been realized. These findings enrich our understanding of the surface chemistry-induced interfacial reaction, which effectively guides the rational design of high-performance hard carbon. 展开更多

Evaluation of hydromechanical shear behavior of unsaturated soils is still a challenging issue. The time and cost needed for conducting precise experimental investigation on shear behavior of unsaturated soils have encouraged several investigators to develop analytical, empirical, or semi-empirical models for predicting the shear behavior of unsaturated soils. However, most of the previously proposed models are for specimens subjected to the isotropic state of stress, without considering the effect of initial shear stress. In this study, a hydromechanical constitutive model is proposed for unsaturated collapsible soils during shearing, with consideration of the effect of the initial shear stress. The model implements an effective stress-based disturbed state concept (DSC) to predict the stress-strain behavior of the soil. Accordingly, material/state variables were defined for both the start of the shearing stage and the critical state of the soil. A series of laboratory tests was performed using a fully automated unsaturated triaxial device to verify the proposed model. The experimental program included 23 suction-controlled unsaturated triaxial shear tests on reconstituted specimens of Gorgan clayey loess wetted to different levels of suctions under both isotropic and anisotropic stress states. The results show excellent agreement between the prediction by the proposed model and the experimental results. 展开更多

The hot compression curves and deformed microstructures were investigated under various hot deformation conditions in three states:hot isostatic pressing(HIP,A1),HIP+hot extrusion at 1100℃(A2),and HIP+hot extrusion at 1150℃(A3).The results show that A2 sample, extruded at 1100℃ with uniform γ+γ′duplex microstructures, demonstrates excellent hot deformation behavior at both 1050 and 1100℃.The true stress-true strain curves of A2 sample maintain a hardening-softening equilibrium over a larger strain range, with post-deformation average grain size of 5μm.The as-HIPed A1 sample and 1150℃ extruded A3 sample exhibit a softening region in deformation curves at 1050℃,and the grain microstructures reflect an incomplete recrystallized state,i.e.combination of fine recrystallized grains and initial larger grains, characterized by a necklace-like microstructure. The predominant recrystallization mechanism for these samples is strain-induced boundary migration. At 1150℃ with a strain rate of 0.001 s^(-1),the influence of the initial microstructure on hot deformation behavior and resultant microstructure is relatively less pronounced, and postdeformation microstructures are fully recrystallized grains.Fine-grained microstructures are conducive to maximizing the hot deformation potential of alloy.By judiciously adjusting deformation regimes,a fine and uniform deformed microstructure can be obtained. 展开更多

As a negative electrode material for lithium-ion batteries, silicon monoxide(SiO)suffers from dramatic volume changes during cycling, causing excessive stress within the electrode and resulting in electrode deformation and fragmentation. This ultimately leads to a decrease in cell capacity. The trends of volume expansion and capacity change of the SiO/graphite(SiO/C)composite electrode during cycling were investigated via in situ expansion monitoring.First,a series of expansion test schemes were designed, and the linear relationship between negative electrode expansion and cell capacity degradation was quantitatively analyzed. Then, the effects of different initial pressures on the long-term cycling performance of the cell were evaluated. Finally, the mechanism of their effects was analyzed by scanning electron microscope. The results show that after 50 cycles, the cell capacity decreases from 2.556 mAh to 1.689 mAh,with a capacity retention ratio(CRR)of only 66.08%.A linear relationship between the capacity retention ratio and thickness expansion was found.Electrochemical measurements and scanning electron microscope images demonstrate that intense stress inhibits the lithiation of the negative electrode and that the electrode is more susceptible to irreversible damage during cycling.Overall, these results reveal the relationship between the cycling performance of SiO and the internal pressure of the electrode from a macroscopic point of view, which provides some reference for the application of SiO/C composite electrodes in lithium-ion batteries. 展开更多

The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of a Fe-0.12C-0.2Si-1.6Mn-0.3Cr-0.0025B(wt.%)steel with different initial microstructures,i.e.,hot rolled(HR)and cold rolled-annealed(CRA),were studied through optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron channeling contrast imaging, microhardness and room temperature uniaxial tensile tests. After water quenching from 930℃ to room temperature,a fully martensitic microstructure was obtained in both as-quenched HR and CRA specimens, which shows a microhardness of 480±5 HV,and no significant difference in microstructure and microhardness was observed.Tensile test results show that the product of tensile strength and total elongation(UTS×TE)of the as-quenched HR specimen,i.e.,24.1 GPa%,is higher than that of the as-quenched CRA specimen,i.e.,18.9 GPa%.While, after being tempered at 300℃,the martensitic microstructures and mechanical properties of the two as-quenched specimens change significantly due to the synergy role of the matrix phase softening and the precipitation strengthening.Concerning the maximum UTS×TE,it is 18.9 GPa%obtained in the as-quenched CRA one, while that is 24.4 GPa%obtained in the HR specimen after tempered at 300℃ for 5 min. 展开更多
