Spatiotemporal patterns of ET and GPP were estimated from 2000 to 2014 over North China Plain (NCP) with a physical and remote sensing-based model. The contributions of climate change and human activities to ET and GPP trends were separated and quantified by the first difference de-trending method and multivariate regression. Results showed that annual ET and GPP increased weakly, with climate change and human activities contributing 0.188 mm yr-2 and 0.466 mm yr-2 to ET trend of 0.654 mm yr-2, and -1.321 g C m-2 yr-2 and 7.542 g C m-2 yr-2 to GPP trend of 6.221 g C m-2 yr-2, respectively. In cropland, the increasing trends mainly occurred in wheat growing stage; the contributions of climate change to wheat and maize were both negative. Precipitation and sunshine duration were the major climatic factors regulating ET and GPP trends. It is concluded that human activities are the main drivers to the long term tendencies of water consumption and gross primary productivity in the NCP.展开更多

Studies into the process of carcinogenesis are limited by lack of appropriate models for the development and pathogenesis of the disease based on human tissues. Primary culture of patient samples can help but is difficult to grow for a number of tissues. A potential opportunity to overcome these barriers is based on the landmark study by Yamanaka which demonstrated the ability of four factors;Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc to reprogram human somatic cells in to pluripotency. These cells were termed induced pluripotent stem cells(i PSCs) and display characteristic properties of embryonic stem cells. This technique has a wide range of potential uses including disease modelling, drug testing and transplantation studies. Interestingly i PSCs also share a number of characteristics with cancer cells including self-renewal and proliferation, expression of stem cell markers and altered metabolism. Recently, i PSCs have been generated from a number of human cancer cell lines and primary tumour samples from a range of cancers in an attempt to recapitulate the development of cancer and interrogate the underlying mechanisms involved. This review will outline the similarities between the reprogramming process and carcinogenesis, and how these similarities have been exploited to generate i PSC models for a number of cancers.展开更多

Targeted case studies were conducted based on an FC-affected event and an SP-affected event with the aim of understanding the characteristics of the contributions of source regions to fine particulate matter(PM(2.5)) in Guangzhou. Four kinds of contributions—namely, emissions outside Guangdong Province(super-region), emissions from the Pearl River Delta region(PRD region), emissions from Guangzhou–Foshan–Shenzhen(GFS region), and emissions from Guangzhou(local)—were investigated using the Weather Research and Forecasting–Community Multiscale Air Quality model. The results showed that the source region contribution differed with different weather systems. SP was a stagnant weather condition, and the source region contribution ratio showed that the local region was a major contributor(37%), while the PRD region, GFS region and the super-region only contributed 8%, 2.8% and 7%, respectively, to PM(2.5) concentrations. By contrast, FC favored regional transport. The super-region became noticeable, contributing 34.8%, while the local region decreased to 12%. A simple method was proposed to quantify the relative impact of meteorology and emissions. Meteorology had a 35% impact, compared with an impact of-18% for emissions, when comparing the FC-affected event with that of the SP. The results from this study can provide guidance to policymakers for the implementation of effective control strategies.展开更多

To study the ice induced vibration of a compliant conical structure, a series of model tests have been performed and some breakthrough progresses made. The ice sheet before the compliant conical structure is found to fail by two-time breaking in the tests. The process of two-time breaking behaves in two modes, and the general control of the ice and structural conditions determine the mode in which the ice force would behave. Two dynamic ice force functions are established respectively for the two modes of two-time breaking process in this paper. The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the measured results, indicating that the dynamic ice force functions given in this paper can fully reflect the real situation of the dynamic ice force on a compliant conical structure.展开更多

Furthermore, by applying double-K fracture theory, KiniⅠC,KunⅠC, as well as the critical effective crack length and the critical crack tip opening displacement, were evaluated. Based on the double-K fracture parameters above, the calculation model of equivalent strength for induced crack was established, thus the calculation method on its initiation, stable propagation and unstable fracture was ascertained. Moreover, the finite element simulation analysis of stress field in ShaPai arch dam and the on-site observational splaying points of induced crack at different altitudes validated the reliability of the model. Finally, crack inducer′s optimal setting in RCC arch dam was studied. It improves the design level of induced crack in RCC arch dam and satisfies the necessity of engineering practice.展开更多

As a method based on the deep learning model of auto-encoder(AE), LLBBC can deal with the fault diagnosis problem through extracting nonlinear features. When the on-line fault diagnosis task is in progress, a locally linear model is firstly built at the current fault sample. According to the basic idea of reconstruction based contribution(RBC), the propagation of fault information is described by using back-propagation(BP) algorithm. Then, a contribution index is established to measure the correlation between the variable and the fault, and the final diagnosis result is obtained by searching variables with large contributions. The smearing effect, which is an important factor affecting the performance of fault diagnosis, can be suppressed as well, and the theoretical analysis reveals that the correct diagnosis can be guaranteed by LLBBC. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified through a nonlinear numerical example and the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process.展开更多

MSS concept was proposed for giving success criterion of a mission and judging the success by conventional mission effectiveness with regards to the aircraft capabilities. This space is created by the Mission Success Function(MSF) and the original Effectiveness Index Space(EIS) where empirical equations are usually assumed to be MSFs. Based on this MSS concept, this paper firstly defines the MSS-based evaluation, then further summarizes the evaluation process of the Contribution to System-of-Systems(CSS). More importantly, based on the thought of Inverse Design(ID), a new design method of MSF is presented comprehensively analyzing aircraft's CSS in a combat mission without using any empirical MSF. The definition of MSS based ID is given and the design procedure is sequentially introduced. Two different confrontation cases are depicted with many details as the simulation validation: Air-to-ground and Penetration. There are two design variables considered for designing MSS in the latter case while only one for the former. However, in both cases, the best design is given by evaluating the Gaussian fitting performance of CSS.展开更多

It is concluded that human activities are the main drivers to the long term tendencies of water consumption and gross primary productivity in the NCP.

文摘In the light of current concerns related to induced seismicity associated with geological carbon sequestration(GCS),this paper summarizes lessons learned from recent modeling studies on fault activation, induced seismicity, and potential for leakage associated with deep underground carbon dioxide(CO2) injection.Model simulations demonstrate that seismic events large enough to be felt by humans require brittle fault properties and continuous fault permeability allowing pressure to be distributed over a large fault patch to be ruptured at once.Heterogeneous fault properties, which are commonly encountered in faults intersecting multilayered shale/sandstone sequences, effectively reduce the likelihood of inducing felt seismicity and also effectively impede upward CO2leakage.A number of simulations show that even a sizable seismic event that could be felt may not be capable of opening a new flow path across the entire thickness of an overlying caprock and it is very unlikely to cross a system of multiple overlying caprock units.Site-specific model simulations of the In Salah CO2storage demonstration site showed that deep fractured zone responses and associated microseismicity occurred in the brittle fractured sandstone reservoir, but at a very substantial reservoir overpressure close to the magnitude of the least principal stress. We conclude by emphasizing the importance of site investigation to characterize rock properties and if at all possible to avoid brittle rock such as proximity of crystalline basement or sites in hard and brittle sedimentary sequences that are more prone to injection-induced seismicity and permanent damage.
文摘Cancer is a highly heterogeneous group of diseases that despite improved treatments remain prevalent accounting for over 14 million new cases and 8.2 million deaths per year. This review will outline the similarities between the reprogramming process and carcinogenesis, and how these similarities have been exploited to generate i PSC models for a number of cancers.

文摘Historical haze episodes(2013–16) in Guangzhou were examined and classified according to synoptic weather systems.Four types of weather systems were found to be unfavorable, among which "foreside of a cold front"(FC) and "sea high pressure"(SP) were the most frequent(〉 75% of the total). The results from this study can provide guidance to policymakers for the implementation of effective control strategies.

文摘Earthquake-triggered landslides have aroused widespread attention because of their tremendous ability to harm people's lives and properties. The best way to avoid and mitigate their damage is to develop landslide hazard maps and make them available to the public in advance of an earthquake.Future construction can then be built according to the level of hazard and existing structures can be retrofit as necessary.During recent years various approaches have been made to develop landslide hazard maps using statistical analysis or physical models. However, these methods have limitations. This study introduces a new GIS-based approach, using the contributing weight model,to evaluate the hazard of seismically-induced landslides. In this study, the city and surrounding area of Dujiangyan was selected as the research area because of its moderate-high seismic activity. The parameters incorporated into the model that related to the probability of landslide occurrence were:slope gradient, slope aspect, geomorphology, lithology, base level, surface roughness, earthquake intensity, fault proximity, drainage proximity, and road proximity. The parameters were converted into raster data format with a resolution of 25×25m2 pixels.Analysis of the GIS correlations shows that the highest earthquake-induced landslide hazard areas are mainly in the hills and in some of the moderately steep mountainous areas of central Dujiangyan. The highest hazard zone covers an area of 11.1% of the study area, and the density distribution of seismically-induced landslides was 3.025/km2 from the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. The moderately hazardous areas are mainly distributed within the moderately steep mountainous regions of the northern and southeastern parts of the study area and the hills of the northeastern part;covering 32.0% of the study area and with a density distribution of 2.123/km2 resulting from the Wenchuan earthquake. The lowest hazard areas are mainly distributed in the topographically flat plain in the northeastern part and some of the relatively gently slopes in the moderately steep mountainous areas of the northern part of Dujiangyan and the surrounding area. The lowest hazard areas cover 56.9% of the study area and exhibited landslide densities of 0.941/km2 and less from the Wenchuan earthquake. The quality of the hazard map was validated using a comparison with the distribution of landslides that were cataloged as occurring from the Wenchuan earthquake.43.1% of the study area consists of high and moderate hazardous zones, and these regions include 83.5% of landslides caused by the Wenchuan earthquake. The successful analysis shows that the contributing weight model can be effective for earthquake-triggered landslide hazard appraisal. The model's results can provide the basis for risk management and regional planning is.

文摘This paper presents a three-dimensional fully hydro-mechanical coupled distinct element study on fault reactivation and induced seismicity due to hydraulic fracturing injection and subsequent backflow process, based on the geological data in Horn River Basin,Northeast British Columbia,Canada. The modeling results indicate that the maximum magnitude of seismic events appears at the fracturing stage. The increment of fluid volume in the fault determines the cumulative moment and maximum fault slippage, both of which are essentially proportional to the fluid volume. After backflow starts, the fluid near the joint intersection keeps flowing into the critically stressed fault, rather than backflows to the wellbore.Although fault slippage is affected by the changes of both pore pressure and ambient rock stress, their contributions are different at fracturing and backflow stages. At fracturing stage, pore pressure change shows a dominant effect on induced fault slippage. While at backflow stage, because the fault plane is under a critical stress state, any minor disturbance would trigger a fault slippage. The energy analysis indicates that aseismic deformation takes up a majority of the total deformation energy during hydraulic fracturing.A common regularity is found in both fracturing-and backflow-induced seismicity that the cumulative moment and maximum fault slippage are nearly proportional to the injected fluid volume. This study shows some novel insights into interpreting fracturing-and backflowinduced seismicity, and provides useful information for controlling and mitigating seismic hazards due to hydraulic fracturing.
文摘The problem of ice induced vibration is common to ocean engineering of cold region countries. The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the measured results, indicating that the dynamic ice force functions given in this paper can fully reflect the real situation of the dynamic ice force on a compliant conical structure.

文摘Individual countries are requested to submit nationally determined contributions(NDCs)to alleviate global warming in the Paris Agreement. However, the global climate effects and regional contributions are not explicitly considered in the countries’decision-making process. In this study,we evaluate the global temperature slowdown of the NDC scenario(ΔT=0.6°C)and attribute the global temperature slowdown to certain regions of the world with a compact earth system model.Considering reductions in CO_(2),CH_(4),N_(2)O,BC,and SO_(2),the R5OECD(the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in 1990)and R5ASIA(Asian countries)are the top two contributors to global warming mitigation, accounting for 39.3%and 36.8%,respectively.R5LAM(Latin America and the Caribbean)and R5MAF(the Middle East and Africa)followed behind, with contributions of 11.5%and 8.9%,respectively.The remaining 3.5%is attributed to R5REF(the Reforming Economies).Carbon Dioxide emission reduction is the decisive factor of regional contributions, but not the only one.Other greenhouse gases are also important, especially for R5MAF.The contribution of short-lived aerosols is small but significant, notably SO_(2)reduction in R5ASIA.We argue that additional species beyond CO_(2)need to be considered, including short-lived pollutants, when planning a route to mitigate climate change. It needs to be emphasized that there is still a gap to achieve the Paris Agreement 2-degree target with current NDC efforts, let alone the ambitious 1.5-degree target. All countries need to pursue stricter reduction policies for a more sustainable world.

文摘Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus(HBV)remains a global health concern despite the availability of vaccines. To date, the development of effective treatments has been severely hampered by the lack of reliable, reproducible, and scalable in vitro modeling systems that precisely recapitulate the virus life cycle and represent virus-host interactions. With the progressive understanding of liver organogenesis mechanisms, the development of human induced pluripotent stem cell(iPSC)-derived hepatic sources and stromal cellular compositions provides novel strategies for personalized modeling and treatment of liver disease.Further, advancements in three-dimensional culture of self-organized liver-like organoids considerably promote in vitro modeling of intact human liver tissue,in terms of both hepatic function and other physiological characteristics.Combined with our experiences in the investigation of HBV infections using liver organoids,we have summarized the advances in modeling reported thus far and discussed the limitations and ongoing challenges in the application of liver organoids, particularly those with multi-cellular components derived from human iPSCs.This review provides general guidelines for establishing clinical-grade iPSC-derived multi-cellular organoids in modeling personalized hepatitis virus infection and other liver diseases,as well as drug testing and transplantation therapy.
文摘By means of fracture testing on roller-compacted concrete (RCC) three-point bending beams with two different specimen sizes, the P-CMOD complete curve for RCC was gained. It improves the design level of induced crack in RCC arch dam and satisfies the necessity of engineering practice.

文摘This paper proposes a novel locally linear backpropagation based contribution(LLBBC) for nonlinear process fault diagnosis. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified through a nonlinear numerical example and the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process.
文摘This paper presents a novel design method of the Mission Success Space(MSS) for the evaluation on aircraft contribution effectiveness. However, in both cases, the best design is given by evaluating the Gaussian fitting performance of CSS.
