Direct and indirect methods for uniaxial compressive strength estimation in various geo-environments:A review

Uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)is a significant mechanical measure in rock engineering,key for classifying rock masses,conducting stability assessments,and guiding design processes.Over the past five decades,numerous techniques and devices have emerged for UCS measurement.This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of existing methodologies and advancements in UCS testing,examining the theoretical foundations,testing equipment,data processing techniques,and criteria for selecting appropriate UCS testing methods.Additionally,the study highlights a shift toward automated,precise,and computational approaches with multiple inputs(i.e.multiple regression,machine learning,ML)for UCS prediction.Approximately 221 articles published by various researchers between 2000 and 2024 related to ML were reviewed,focusing on the application of ML models,including artificial neural networks(ANNs),adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system(ANFIS),random forest(RF),support vector machine(SVM),and extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),in UCS prediction.The review also observed the growing use of hybrid models integrating ML with optimization techniques,significantly improving UCS estimation.Numerous empirical correlations,both direct and indirect,have been established in the past several years based on the physical properties of rocks.However,utilizing these proposed equations to reliably estimate UCS remains challenging due to the variability in lithology,rock origin,and other factors.This study systematically presents the established correlation expressions,considering their lithology,the number of samples used to establish the expressions,the coefficient of determination(R^(2)),and the locations.This allows geologists and engineers to easily apply these established expressions in situations where direct estimation is not possible,enabling them to approximate UCS results. 展开更多

Since the procedure is similar to indirect measurement of the EC effect, the results can serve as a reference for experiments. The results suggest that(i) it is reasonable to use zero-field CP,(ii) optimized ?T should be 2 K,(iii) it is better to keep △E 〈 EC, and(iv) E1〈 EC. Here, EC is the coercive field of material. 展开更多

The wheel-rail force measurement is of great importance to the condition monitoring and safety evaluation of railway vehicles. In this paper, an improved indirect method for wheel-rail force measurement is proposed to evaluate the running safety of railway vehicles. In this method, the equilibrium equations of a suspended wheelset are derived and the wheel-rail forces are then be obtained from measured suspension and inertia forces. This indirect method avoids structural modifications to the wheelset and is applicable to the long-term operation of railway vehicles. As the wheel-rail lateral forces at two sides of the wheelset are difficult to separate, a new derailment criterion by combined use of wheelset derailment coefficient and wheel unloading ratio is proposed. To illustrate its effectiveness, the indirect method is applied to safety evaluation of rail- way vehicles in different scenarios, such as the cross wind safety of a high-speed train and the safety of a metro vehicle with hunting motions. Then, the feasibility of using this method to identify wheel-rail forces for low-floor light rail vehicles with resilient wheels is discussed. The values identified by this method is compared with that by Simpack simulation for the same low-floor vehicle, which shows a good coincidence between them in the time domain of the wheelset lateral force and the wheel-rail vertical force. In addition, use of the method to determine the high-frequency wheel-rail interaction forces reveals that it is possible to identify the high-frequency wheel-rail forces through the accelerations on the axle box. 展开更多

Magnesium and its alloys are promising candidates for a new generation of biodegradable metals in orthopaedic applications due to their excellent biocompatibility,biodegradability,and mechanical properties that are similar to natural bone.However,direct in vitro assessment of these materials in the presence of cells is complicated by degradation products from the alloy that lead to a false positive for the most commonly used cell adhesion and cell proliferation assays.In this paper,a cyanine dye was used to quantitatively evaluate the in vitro biocompatibility of a Mg AZ31 alloy by both direct and indirect methods.The cytotoxicity of the corrosion products was evaluated via an indirect method;a 25%decrease in cell viability compared to control samples was observed.Moreover,direct assessment of cell adhesion and proliferation showed a statistically significant increase in cell number at the surface after 72 h.In addition,the degradation rate and surface characteristics of the Mg AZ31 alloy were evaluated for both direct and indirect tests.The degradation rate was unaffected by the presence of cells while evidence of an increase in calcium phosphate deposition on the magnesium alloy surface in the presence of cells was observed.This study demonstrates that a cyanine dye based assay provides a more accurate assessment of the overall in vitro biocompatibility of biodegradable metals than the more commonly used assays reported in the literature to date. 展开更多

Nonlinear optimal control problems are challenging to solve due to the prevalence of local minima that prevent convergence and/or optimality.This paper describes nearest-neighbors optimal control(NNOC),a data-driven framework for nonlinear optimal control using indirect methods.It determines initial guesses for new problems with the help of precomputed solutions to similar problems,retrieved using k-nearest neighbors.A sensitivity analysis technique is introduced to linearly approximate the variation of solutions between new and precomputed problems based on their variation of parameters.Experiments show that NNOC can obtain the global optimal solution orders of magnitude faster than standard random restart methods,and sensitivity analysis can further reduce the solving time almost by half.Examples are shown on optimal control problems in vehicle control and agile satellite reorientation demonstrating that global optima can be determined with more than 99%reliability within time at the order of 10-100 milliseconds. 展开更多

To solve the receding horizon control (RHC) problem in an online manner, a novel numerical method called the indirect Radau pseudospectral method (IRPM) is proposed in this paper. Based on calculus of variations and the first-order necessary optimality condition, the RHC problem for linear time-varying (LTV) system is transformed into the two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP). The Radau pseudospectral approximation is employed to discretize the TPBVP into well-posed linear algebraic equations. The resulting linear algebraic equations are solved via a matrix partitioning approach afterwards to obtain the optimal feedback control law. For the nonlinear system, the linearization method or the quasi linearization method is employed to approximate the RHC problem with successive linear approximations. Subsequently, each linear problem is solved via the similar method which is used to solve the RHC problem for LTV system. Simulation results of three examples show that the IRPM is of high accuracy and of high compu- tation efficiency to solve the RHC problem and the stability of closed-loop systems is guaranteed. 展开更多

A novel control method for a general class of nonlinear systems using fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) is presertted. Indirect and direct methods are combined to design the adaptive fuzzy output feedback controller and a high-gain observer is used to estimate the derivatives of the system output. The closed-loop system is proven to be semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded. In addition, it is shown that if the approximation accuracy of the fuzzy logic system is high enough and the observer gain is chosen sufficiently large, an arbitrarily small tracking error can be achieved. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the newly designed scheme and the theoretical discussion. 展开更多

The difficulties associated with performing direct compression strength tests on rocks lead to the development of indirect test methods for the rock strength assessment. Indirect test methods are simple, more economical, less time-consuming, and easily adaptable to the field. The main aim of this study was to derive correlations between direct and indirect test methods for basalt and rhyolite rock types from Carlin trend deposits in Nevada. In the destructive methods, point load index, block punch index, and splitting tensile strength tests are performed. In the non-destructive methods, Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests are performed. Correlations between the direct and indirect compression strength tests are developed using linear and nonlinear regression analysis methods. The results show that the splitting tensile strength has the best correlation with the uniaxial compression strength.Furthermore, the Poisson's ratio has no correlation with any of the direct and indirect test results. 展开更多

目的采用间接法建立并验证苏州地区表观健康成人血清中高尔基体蛋白73(GP73)的参考区间。方法回顾性分析2020年5月~2024年4月在南京医科大学附属苏州医院健康体检的1959例受试者,采用酶联免疫吸附试验(ELISA)检测血清中GP73水平。按照... 目的采用间接法建立并验证苏州地区表观健康成人血清中高尔基体蛋白73(GP73)的参考区间。方法回顾性分析2020年5月~2024年4月在南京医科大学附属苏州医院健康体检的1959例受试者,采用酶联免疫吸附试验(ELISA)检测血清中GP73水平。按照性别和年龄分组,参照WS/T 402-2024《临床实验室定量检验项目参考区间的制定》文件要求建立各组参考区间。选取2024年5月~6月该院20例表观健康成人,进行GP73自建参考区间的验证。结果表观健康人GP73水平呈偏态分布,采用百分位数法建立参考区间。线性回归分析发现,男性和女性GP73水平与年龄均呈正相关(r=0.197、0.247,均P<0.01)。男性组GP73水平低于女性组,差异具有统计学意义(Z=-2.145,P=0.032)。按年龄分组,≥60岁组与18~44岁组、45~59岁组GP73水平比较,差异均有统计学意义(Z=-6.623、-6.625,均P<0.05),18~44岁组与45~59岁组GP73水平比较,差异无统计学意义(Z=-0.232,P=0.817)。女性不同年龄分组两两比较,GP73水平差异均有统计学意义(Z=-2.371、-7.571、-4.907,均P<0.05)。经过标准正态离差检验分析不同性别和各年龄段GP73水平差异无实际临床意义(Z<Z*),建立统一的GP73参考区间为≤76.96ng/ml,并进行验证符合标准。结论初步建立适合苏州地区表观健康成人血清GP73参考区间,为临床相关疾病的预防、诊治提供参考。 展开更多

北美Appalachian盆地泥盆系油页岩资源评价新方法

针对中—低勘探程度盆地的油页岩资源评价,传统的体积法与类比法存在局限性,利用间接参数体积法更适用于北美Appalachian盆地的资源评价。基于泥页岩总有机碳(TOC)含量与含油率的良好正相关性,确定油页岩阈值及含油率区间,并计算校正系... 针对中—低勘探程度盆地的油页岩资源评价,传统的体积法与类比法存在局限性,利用间接参数体积法更适用于北美Appalachian盆地的资源评价。基于泥页岩总有机碳(TOC)含量与含油率的良好正相关性,确定油页岩阈值及含油率区间,并计算校正系数,再进一步应用校正系数获得油页岩厚度、面积及热解烃量(S_(2)),进而估算油页岩的资源量。研究结果表明:①北美Appalachian盆地的油页岩资源主要分布在西部Ohio地区,Ohio地区主力层位为上泥盆统Ohio油页岩段,自下而上可细分为Huron、Chagrin和Cleveland等3个亚段。总体上岩性以深灰色—黑色页岩为主,夹薄层粉砂岩。②研究区Ohio泥页岩TOC为1%~12%,含油率为0.33%~9.31%,油页岩含油率为3.50%~9.31%,S2为35.2~95.7 mg/g,校正系数为0.647。③泥页岩厚度乘以校正系数可获得研究区油页岩厚度为10~80 m。将TOC等值线转换为含油率等值线,以含油率3.50%圈定为油页岩面积(4.612×10^(4) km^(2))。④应用间接参数体积法计算出研究区地面干馏和原位转化油页岩的油资源量分别为202×10^(8) t和173×10^(8) t,相应可采资源量分别为86×10^(8) t和39×10^(8) t。 展开更多

针对远于30 AU的复杂星际环境中,传统间接法难以有效设计小推力引力辅助交会轨迹的问题,提出一种具有通用性的混合优化技术,结合形状法和间接法实现全局燃料最优小推力交会轨迹的快速稳健设计。首先,采用基于有限傅里叶级数的形状法实... 针对远于30 AU的复杂星际环境中,传统间接法难以有效设计小推力引力辅助交会轨迹的问题,提出一种具有通用性的混合优化技术,结合形状法和间接法实现全局燃料最优小推力交会轨迹的快速稳健设计。首先,采用基于有限傅里叶级数的形状法实现对有/无引力辅助交会轨迹的快速初步全局优化设计,以获取最佳发射时间和边界条件等信息。然后,利用间接法进行局部优化,同时采用辅以轨迹圈数信息的改进春分点轨道根数对轨迹进行描述,并结合双曲正切平滑技术、协态变量归一化技术、粒子群优化算法和多重打靶法,有效提高了求解过程对全局最优解的收敛性;此外,还提出一种通用平滑步长迭代策略,以保证间接平滑迭代求解过程的稳健性。最后,以海王星交会轨迹的设计为案例,通过数值仿真检验了所提混合优化技术的有效性和通用性。 展开更多

基于移动车辆响应的桥梁模态参数间接测量方法具有灵活高效的优势,但其易受路面粗糙度干扰和车速限制。为优化模态振型识别效果,提出一种基于移动车辆参数调控的桥梁模态振型自适应识别方法。基于车桥耦合理论,推导出利用刚度一致、质... 基于移动车辆响应的桥梁模态参数间接测量方法具有灵活高效的优势,但其易受路面粗糙度干扰和车速限制。为优化模态振型识别效果,提出一种基于移动车辆参数调控的桥梁模态振型自适应识别方法。基于车桥耦合理论,推导出利用刚度一致、质量不同的2辆检测车接触点响应残差来消除路面粗糙度影响的方法。针对残差信号的非平稳特性,提出改进的经验小波变换(IEWT)从而自适应地将信号解耦成系列单频信号,采用短时傅里叶变换(STFT)提取系列单频信号的瞬时频率特征,进而重构桥梁模态振型。研究首先验证了利用参数调控的两检测车接触点响应残差消除路面粗糙度影响的可行性,并分析了该方法适用的车辆参数调控范围。其次结合数值模拟对检测车速度、路面粗糙度及桥梁阻尼比的影响进行了参数分析。最后通过实桥试验初步验证了方法的适用性。研究结果表明:该方法适用的车辆参数调控范围较灵活,可有效克服路面粗糙度的干扰,且对车速和桥梁阻尼比具有较好的鲁棒性。与同类研究相比,所提方法无需预设滤波参数,可避免主观因素的干扰,模态振型识别精度和计算效率较高,为移动车辆扫描法在桥梁检测工程的应用提供了参考。 展开更多

为建立赤羽病病毒(AKAV)的间接免疫荧光检测方法(IFA),本试验利用大肠杆菌原核表达系统将AKAV的N蛋白进行表达,蛋白纯化后免疫小鼠制备多克隆抗体,以AKAV感染后的BHK-21细胞作为抗原,小鼠抗N蛋白多克隆抗体为一抗,FITC-山羊抗小鼠Ig G... 为建立赤羽病病毒(AKAV)的间接免疫荧光检测方法(IFA),本试验利用大肠杆菌原核表达系统将AKAV的N蛋白进行表达,蛋白纯化后免疫小鼠制备多克隆抗体,以AKAV感染后的BHK-21细胞作为抗原,小鼠抗N蛋白多克隆抗体为一抗,FITC-山羊抗小鼠Ig G为二抗,建立AKAV的IFA检测方法,优化筛选抗体的最佳孵育浓度和孵育时间,评估所建立方法的特异性、敏感性和重复性。最后,利用该方法对临床样品进行检测,并与荧光定量PCR方法进行符合性验证。结果显示,N蛋白可在大肠杆菌中高效表达,4次免疫小鼠后多克隆抗体效价可达1∶51200;经优化筛选,在一抗稀释浓度1∶200、孵育2 h,二抗稀释浓度1∶500、孵育1.5 h条件下,IFA检测效果最佳;敏感性试验显示,所建方法对25 TCID50的AKAV可有效检出;特异性试验显示与其他病原无交叉反应,且重复性良好。该方法对24份临床山羊血液样本进行检测,共检出8份阳性、16份阴性样本,与荧光定量PCR方法检测结果相比,二者的符合率为95.8%。本试验为AKAV实验室诊断技术及产品的开发提供了技术支持,同时为深入研究AKAV感染机制奠定了基础。 展开更多

近断层地震动下基于地震超材料理论的复合地基隔震性能研究

近断层地震动常表现为长周期速度脉冲与竖向大振幅,显著加剧工程结构震害。提出并研究了一种地震超材料复合地基(seismic metamaterial composite foundation,SMCF),旨在实现对水平与竖向地震动的同步隔离。采用快速多极间接边界元法建... 近断层地震动常表现为长周期速度脉冲与竖向大振幅,显著加剧工程结构震害。提出并研究了一种地震超材料复合地基(seismic metamaterial composite foundation,SMCF),旨在实现对水平与竖向地震动的同步隔离。采用快速多极间接边界元法建立了SMCF对地震波的三维散射场,在验证计算精度基础上,分析了近断层脉冲型地震动作用下SMCF隔震性能,并开展了参数敏感性分析。结果表明:SMCF水平向与竖向平均隔震率分别为37%~63%与24%~43%;SMCF上方地表中心区域水平隔震率最高可达75%,而边缘区域最低仅为13%,表明隔震性能存在显著的空间分布差异;地震超材料形状和物性参数、地震动参数敏感度均在0.26~0.38;建议SMCF应适当扩大至结构基础范围以外,并进行方案优化,以确保整体结构隔震效果。本研究为近断层结构隔震设计提供了新思路。 展开更多

This paper proposes a hybrid decoupled power flow method for balanced power distribution systems with distributed generation sources. The method formulates the power flow equations in active power and reactive power decoupled form with polar coordinates. Second-order terms are included in the active power mismatch iteration, and constant Jacobian and Hessian matrices are used. A hybrid direct and indirect solution technique is used to achieve efficiency and robustness of the algorithm. Active power correction is solved by means of a sparse lower triangular and upper triangular (LU) decomposition algorithm with partial pivoting, and the reactive power correction is solved by means of restarted generalized minimal residual algorithm with an incomplete LU pre-conditioner. Typical distribution generation models and distribution load models are included. The impact of zero-impedance branches is explicitly modeled through reconfiguring of the adjacent branches with impedances. Numerical examples on a sample distribution system with widespread photovoltaic installations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

多孔介质波动理论在地震动研究以及地质储油层开发中得到了广泛应用,研究地震波在双重孔隙介质中的反射、散射等具有重要理论研究意义和实际工程价值,采用间接边界积分方程法(IBIEM)分析饱和双重孔隙介质半空间中孔洞对地震波的散射规律... 多孔介质波动理论在地震动研究以及地质储油层开发中得到了广泛应用,研究地震波在双重孔隙介质中的反射、散射等具有重要理论研究意义和实际工程价值,采用间接边界积分方程法(IBIEM)分析饱和双重孔隙介质半空间中孔洞对地震波的散射规律,考虑入射角度、入射频率、基质孔隙率和裂隙孔隙率多个因素对地表位移幅值和孔洞表面环向应力的影响。数值结果表明:对于不同入射角,水平和竖向地表位移均在θβ=30°(临界角)时达到最大值,临界角之后,波的传播方向改变,造成水平方向能量转化为竖向能量,地表位移随之下降,孔洞对于斜入射SV波有明显的放大作用,其峰值出现在孔洞左侧上方,地表位移幅值在x/a<-1左侧时震荡激烈,在x/a>1时地表位移震荡明显变缓,在工程震害分析中,仍需重点关注SV波θβ=30°附近时对结构的影响,随着入射频率的增加,地表位移幅值的震荡逐渐加剧,能量波动更为剧烈。环向应力幅值在θβ=30°时达到最大,随着入射频率增加,环向应力幅值的空间分布更为复杂,但环向应力幅值逐渐减小,η=0.5时的环向应力系数均可达10以上。研究结果对于研究双重孔隙介质理论下局部复杂场地对弹性波的散射具有极高的理论价值,尤其在工程地质勘探、地下结构安全性评估等领域有着潜在的实际应用价值。 展开更多
