Free energy inside the micro structure is included due to the elastic strains and plastic strain gradients. A unit cell containing a circular elastic fiber is analyzed under macroscopic simple shear in addition to transverse and longitudinal loading. The analyses are carried out under generalized plane strain condition. Micro-macro homogenization is performed observing the Hill-Mandel energy condition, and overall loading is considered such that the homogenized higher order terms vanish. The results highlight the intrinsic size-effects as well as the effect of fiber volume fraction on the overall response curves, plastic strain distributions and homogenized yield surfaces under different loading conditions. It is concluded that composites with smaller reinforcement size have larger initial yield surfaces and furthermore, they exhibit more kinematic hardening.展开更多

To obtain reliable reflectivity of the subsurface it is necessary to solve the imaging problem using inversion. The least-square reverse time migration (LSRTM) (also known as linearized refleetivity inversion) aims to obtain relatively high-resolution amplitude preserving imaging by including the inverse of the Hessian matrix. In practice, the conjugate gradient algorithm is proven to be an efficient iterative method for enabling use of LSRTM. The velocity gradient can be derived from a cross-correlation between observed data and simulated data, making LSRTM independent of wavelet signature and thus more robust in practice. Tests on synthetic and marine data show that LSRTM has good potential for use in reservoir description and four-dimensional (4D) seismic images compared to traditional RTM and Fourier finite difference (FFD) migration. This paper investigates the first order approximation of LSRTM, which is also known as the linear Born approximation. However, for more complex geological structures a higher order approximation should be considered to improve imaging quality.展开更多

However, the phenomenon can not be predicted directly using the conventional elastic-plastic theory. It is because that no length scale parameters are involved in the conventional theory. In the present research, using the strain gradient plasticity theory, a systematic research of the particle size effect in the particulate metal matrix composite is carried out. The roles of many composite factors, such as: the particle size, the Young's modulus of the particle, the particle aspect ratio and volume fraction, as well as the plastic strain hardening exponent of the matrix material, are studied in detail. In order to obtain a general understanding for the composite behavior, two kinds of particle shapes, ellipsoid and cylinder, are considered to check the strength dependence of the smooth or non-smooth particle surface. Finally, the prediction results will be applied to the several experiments about the ceramic particle-reinforced metal-matrix composites. The material length scale parameter is predicted.展开更多

Three different rotation speeds with a constant traverse speed were used for FSP. Microstructural analysis of the FSPed specimens reveals significant Al2 O3 particle refinement and improved particle distribution over the as-sprayed deposits. After FSP, a microstructural and mechanical gradient MMC through the thickness direction was obtained. Therefore, a hybrid technique combining these two solid-state processes, i.e. CS and FSP, was proposed to produce functionally gradient deposits. The Guinier-Preston-Bagaryatskii zone was dissolved during FSP, while the amounts at different rotation speeds were approximately the same, which is possibly due to the excellent thermal conductivity of the used Cu substrate. Mechanical property tests confirm that FSP can effectively improve the tensile performance and Vickers hardness of CSed AA2024/Al2 O3 MMCs. The properties can be further enhanced with a larger rotation speed with a maximum increase of 25.9% in ultimate tensile strength and27.4% in elongation at 1500 rpm. Friction tests show that FSP decreases the wear resistance of CSed MMCs deposits due to the breakup of Al2 O3 particles. The average values and fluctuations of friction coefficients at different rotation speeds vary significantly.展开更多
