This paper presents an alternative adaptive filtering design based on the minimum symbol error rate (MSER) criterion for communication applications. It is shown that the MSER filtering is smarter, as it exploits the non-Gaussian distribution of filter output effectively. Consequently, it provides significant performance gain in terms of smaller symbol error over the MMSE approach. Adopting Parzen window or kernel density estimation for a probability density function, a block-data gradient adaptive MSER algorithm is derived. A stochastic gradient adaptive MSER algorithm, referred to as the least symbol error rate, is further developed for sample-by-sample adaptive implementation of the MSER filtering. Two applications, involving single-user channel equalization and beamforming assisted receiver, are included to demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed adaptive MSER filtering approach.展开更多

A hybrid learning algorithm is introduced to identify the proposed NFM with the idea of auxiliary error model and the identification principle based on the probability density function(PDF). The main contribution is that the NFM parameter updating approach is transformed into the shape control for the PDF of modeling error. More specifically, a virtual adaptive control system is constructed with the aid of the auxiliary error model and then the PDF shape control idea is used to tune NFM parameters so that the PDF of modeling error is controlled to follow a targeted PDF, which is in Gaussian or uniform distribution. Examples are used to validate the applicability of the proposed method and comparisons are made with the minimum mean square error based approaches.展开更多

A new approach is presented, called as the minimum error point (MEP) method or the MEP based method, for reliability-based design optimization, whose idea is to minimize the error produced by approximating performance functions. The MEP based method uses the first order Taylor's expansion at MEP instead of MPP. In a WSN, packet errors could occur due to weak signal strength or interference. These erroneous packets have to be retransmitted, which will increase network load substantially. The proposed PIS, encoding data using Reed-Solomon (RS) codes, can classify data into two different types: high-reliability-required (HRR) data and non-HRR data. An HRR packet is encoded with a short RS symbol, while a non-HRR packet with a long RS symbol. When an HRR and a non-HRR packet arrive at a sensor, they are interleaved on a symbol-by-symbol basis. Thus, the effect of burst errors (BE) is dispersed and consequently the uncorrectable HRR packets can be reduced. For the purpose of evaluation, two models, the uniform bit-error model (UBEM) and the on-off bit-error model (OBEM), are built to analyze the packet uncorrectable probability. In the evaluation, we first change the lengths of BE, then we vary the shift positions in a BE period, and finally we increase the number of correctable symbols to observe the superiority of the proposed PIS in reducing packet uncorrectable probability.展开更多

Lastly, we establish that the proportionality constant A is equivalent to the coefficient of variation associated with Δ?() measurement and, therefore, . These results are noteworthy inasmuch as they provide a straightforward empirical link between stochastic sampling error and the aforementioned Cvs. Finally, we demonstrate that all attendant empirical measures of Δ?are reasonably small (e.g., ) when an environmental microbiome was well-sampled: n = 16 - 18 observations with μ∼3?isolates per observation. These colony counting results were supported by the fact that the two major isolates’ relative abundance was reproducible in the four most probable composition observations from one common population.展开更多

We use the Carleton damage function to model the distribution of damage probability caused by each weapon. The deviation of the impact point from the aimpoint is attributed to both the dependent error and independent errors. The dependent error is one random variable affecting M weapons the same way while independent errors are associated with individual weapons and are independent of each other. We consider the case where the dependent error is significant, non-negligible relative to independent errors. We first derive an explicit exact solution for the damage probability caused by M weapons for any M. Based on the exact solution, we find the optimal aimpoint distribution of M weapons to maximize the damage probability in several cases where the aimpoint distribution is constrained geometrically with a few free parameters, including uniform distributions around a circle or around an ellipse. Then, we perform unconstrained optimization to obtain the overall optimal aimpoint distribution and the overall maximum damage probability, which is carried out for different values of M, up to 20 weapons. Finally, we derive a phenomenological approximate expression for the damage probability vs. M, the number of weapons, for the parameters studied here.展开更多

However, the achievable performance of IA in cellular networks depends on the quality of channel state information (CSI) and how effective IA is in practical settings is not known. This paper studies the use of IA to mitigate inter-cell interference of cellular networks under imperfect CSI conditions. Our analysis is based on stochastic geometry where the structure of the base station (BS) locations is considered by a Poisson point process (PPP). Our main contribution is the coverage probability of the network and simulation results confirm the accuracy.展开更多

文摘In the promising cooperative communication systems, network performance is mainly affected by interference instead of noise. In this paper,we consider the performance degraded by the Poisson filed interference in the dual-hop relay channels. We focus on the discussions of error outage probability (EOP) performance with a selective-decode-and-forward (SDF),amplify-and-forward (AF),or fixed-decode-and-forward (DF) cooperation protocol. Finally, the simulation results present the performance with different cooperation protocols with interference in a Poisson field.
文摘Interference alignment (IA) is well understood to approach the capacity of interference channels, and believed to be crucial in cellular networks in which the ability to control and exploit interference is key. Our main contribution is the coverage probability of the network and simulation results confirm the accuracy.
