Skin panels on supersonic vehicles are subjected to aero-thermo-acoustic loads, resulting in a well-known multi-physics dynamic problem. The high-frequency dynamic response of these panels significantly impacts the structural safety of supersonic vehicles, but it has been rarely investigated.Given that existing methods are inefficient for high-frequency dynamic analysis in multi-physics fields, the present work addresses this challenge by proposing a Stochastic Energy Finite Element Method(SEFEM).SEFEM uses energy density instead of displacement to describe the dynamic response, thereby significantly enhancing its efficiency. In SEFEM,the effects of aerodynamic and thermal loads on the energy propagation characteristics are studied analytically and incorporated into the energy density governing equation. These effects are also considered when calculating the input power generated by the acoustic load, and two effective approaches named Frequency Response Function Method(FRFM)and Mechanical Impedance Method(MIM)are developed accordingly and integrated into SEFEM.The good accuracy, applicability, and high efficiency of the proposed SEFEM are demonstrated through numerical simulations performed on a two-dimensional panel under aero-thermoacoustic loads.Additionally, the effects and underlying mechanisms of aero-thermo-acoustic loads on the high-frequency response are explored. This work not only presents an efficient approach for predicting high-frequency dynamic response of panels subjected to aero-thermo-acoustic loads, but also provides insights into the high-frequency dynamic characteristics in multi-physics fields. 展开更多

The contents ofMg, Al, Si, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Ga, As, Se, Cd, Sb, Pb and Bi in high purity nickel were determined by high resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HR-ICP-MS). The sample was dissolved in HNO3 and HCI by microwave digestion. Most of the spectral interferences could be avoided by measuring in the high resolution mode. The matrix effects because of the presence of excess HC1 and nickel were evaluated. Correction for matrix effects was made using Sc, Rh and T1 as internal standards. The optimum conditions for the determination were tested and discussed. The detection limits range from 0.012 to 1.76 ~tg/g depending on the type of elements. The applicability of the proposed method is also validated by the analysis of high purity nickel reference material (NIST SRM 671). The relative standard deviation (RSD) is less than 3.3%. Results for determination of trace elements in high purity nickel were presented. 展开更多

High frequency transformer is used in many applications among the Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS), high voltage pulse power and etc can be mentioned. Regarding that the core of these transformers is often the ferrite core;their functions partly depend on this core characteristic. One of the characteristics of the ferrite core is thermal behavior that should be paid attention to because it affects the transformer function and causes heat generation. In this paper, a typical high frequency transformer with ferrite core is designed and simulated in ANSYS software. Temperature rise due to winding current (Joule-heat) is considered as heat generation source for thermal behavior analysis of the transformer. In this simulation, the temperature rise and heat distribution are studied and the effects of parameters such as flux density, winding loss value, using a fan to cool the winding and core and thermal conductivity are investigated. 展开更多

Based on the rigid-plastic finite element method(FEM), the shear stress field of deformation region for high manganese austenite steel during hot asymmetrical rolling process was analyzed. The influences of rolling parameters, such as the velocity ratio of upper to lower rolls, the initial temperature of workpiece and the reduction rate, on the shear deformation of three nodes in the upper, center and lower layers were discussed. As the rolling parameters change, distinct shear deformation appears in the upper and lower layers, but the shear deformation in the center layer appears only when the velocity ratio is more than 1.00, and the absolute value of the shear stress in this layer is changed with rolling parameters. A mathematical model which reflected the change of the maximal absolute shear stress for the center layer was established, by which the maximal absolute shear stress for the center layer can be easily calculated and the appropriate rolling technology can be designed. 展开更多

In the previous papers, a high performance sparse static solver with two-level unrolling based on a cell-sparse storage scheme was reported. Although the solver reaches quite a high efficiency for a big percentage of finite element analysis benchmark tests, the MFLOPS (million floating operations per second) of LDL^T factorization of benchmark tests vary on a Dell Pentium IV 850 MHz machine from 100 to 456 depending on the average size of the super-equations, i.e., on the average depth of unrolling. In this paper, a new sparse static solver with two-level unrolling that employs the concept of master-equations and searches for an appropriate depths of unrolling is proposed. The new solver provides higher MFLOPS for LDL^T factorization of benchmark tests, and therefore speeds up the solution process. 展开更多

The axial single-pass high temperature compression test of a hot-rolled extra-large heavy H-beam steel continuous casting billet (Q420 steel) under different deformation conditions through the Gleeble-1500D thermomechanical simulator was carried out. The modified Johnson–Cook model and the Arrhenius model based on strain-compensated of Q420 steel were established. The latter can more accurately reflect the flow behavior of Q420 steel. For the simulation of thermal compression, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) correlation models were developed and imported into DEFORM-3D software. According to simulation results, high temperatures and low strain rates are conducive to DRX. Due to the uneven distribution of equivalent strain and temperature in different parts of the same section, DRX volume fraction and grain size are unevenly distributed. At the center, the DRX volume fraction is the largest and the grain size is the smallest. The upper and lower edges are vice versa, and the left and right edges are centered. Optical microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction characterization methods were used to study the hot compression microstructure under different deformation conditions. As the deformation amount increases, complete DRX is gradually reached. The original austenite grain gradually becomes smaller. Local average misorientation decreases with the progression of DRX but increases with the amount of deformation after completion of DRX. As the temperature increases and the rate decreases, low angle grain boundaries and medium angle grain boundaries gradually decrease, and high angle grain boundaries gradually increase, indicating that dislocation decreases gradually, DRX grains increase gradually, and martensitic multilayer structure is obvious. As austenite grain size increases, the length of martensite lath increases, and the number of martensite blocks decreases. 展开更多

There is a common difficulty in elastic-plastic impact codes such as EPIC[2,3] NONSAP[4], etc.. Most of these codes use the simple linear functions usually taken from static problem to represent the displacement components. In such finite element formulation, the stress components are constant in each element and they are discontinuous in any two neighboring elements. Therefore, the bases of using the virtual work principle in such elements are unreliable. In this paper, we introduce a new method, namely, the compatible stress iterative method, to eliminate the above-said difficulty. The calculated examples show that the calculation using the new method in dynamic finite element analysis of high velocity impact is valid and stable, and the element stiffness can be somewhat reduced. 展开更多

This study presents an experiment of improving the performance of spectral stochastic finite element method using high-order elements. This experiment is implemented through a two-dimensional spectral stochastic finite element formulation of an elliptic partial differential equation having stochastic coefficients. Deriving this spectral stochastic finite element formulation couples a two-dimensional deterministic finite element formulation of an elliptic partial differential equation with generalized polynomial chaos expansions of stochastic coefficients. Further inspection of the performance of resulting spectral stochastic finite element formulation with adopting linear and quadratic (9-node or 8-node) quadrilateral elements finds that more accurate standard deviations of unknowns are surprisingly predicted using quadratic quadrilateral elements, especially under high autocorrelation function values of stochastic coefficients. In addition, creating spectral stochastic finite element results using quadratic quadrilateral elements is not unacceptably time-consuming. Therefore, this study concludes that adopting high-order elements can be a lower-cost method to improve the performance of spectral stochastic finite element method. 展开更多

The effect of applied tensile stress on the r'-rafting behavior for a Ni-based single-crystal superalloy with more negative misfit was investigated.By conducting interrupted creep tests at high temperature,it indicated that the increase in the applied stress accelerates the r'-rafting(directional coarsening of yr phase). In the early stage of rafting, the r'-cubes start interconnecting at the ends of the parallel-to-applied-stress r'-channel.The distributions of misfit stress, coherent strain and strain energy density of the r/r'phases are then calculated by finite element analysis. The calculation results show that the rafting acceleration is mainly ascribed to the reduced strain energy density in the parallel-to-applied-stress r'-channel that is driven from the couple interaction of external load and misfit stress.Interface dislocation network formation, resulting from the misfit-induced increase in resolved shear stress, also contributes to the r'-rafting. 展开更多

The SUPG stabilization technique is employed for the for- mulation of momentum equations. Using the penalty function method, the continuity equation is simplified and the pres- sure of the momentum equations is eliminated. With the development of high speed railway traffic, the structure health monitoring for high-speed rail is necessary due to the safety issue. Optical fiber sensing technology is one of the options to solve it. Stress vector information is the important index to make more reasonable judgments about railway safety. However, information sensed by lots of commercial optical sensors is scalar. According to the stress filed distribution of rail, this paper proposes a new type of stress vector sensor based on optical fiber sensing cable(OFSC) with a symmetrical seven optical fibers structure and analyzes the relations between angle resolution and distance between adjacent of optical fibers through finite-element software(ANSYS) simulation. Through reasonable distance configuration, the angle resolution of the OFSC can be improved, and thus stress vector information, including the stress magnitude and the angle of stress, can be more accurately obtained. The simulation results are helpful to configure OFSC for angle resolution improvement in actual practice, and increase the safety factor in high speed railway structure health monitoring. 展开更多

The data obtained from a high resolution seismic refraction profile, which was carded out in Jiashi, Xinjiang, strong earthquake swarm area, were processed with both finite difference inversion and Hagedoorn refractor wavefront imaging technique and the fine upper crustal structure was determined. The results show that the upper crustal structure is relatively well-distributed in laterally and obviously by layers vertically. From surface to 11.0 km depth, there are about four layers. The P wave velocity of top two layers range from 1.65 to 4.5 km/s and their bottom boundaries, the buried depths of which are 0.4, 2.96-3.0 km respectively, are almost horizontal; The third layer is comparatively complicated and its P wave velocity presents inhomogeneous in both laterally and vertically. The bottom boundary of third layer is crystalline basement and shows a little uplift, which seemly suggest that the upper crust had been resisted while the hard Tarim block inserting into Tianshan Mountain; The forth layer is relatively even and its P wave velocity is about 6.3 km/s. There are a lateral velocity variation at the depth of about 4.0 km, and suggest that it has something to do with the hidden Meigaiti fault and Meigaiti-Xiasuhong fault but there are no the structure features about these faults stretching to the surface and passing through the crystalline basement. The seismogenic tectonic of Jiashi strong earthquake swarm at least lies in middle or lower crust beneath 11.0 km depth. 展开更多

A high-resolution finite element scheme is developed for the computation offree surface problems. The present higher-order accuracy scheme is obtained through the introductionof the difference of almost equal amount of diffusion and antidiffusion, where the antidiffusion isformulated as approximation to diffusion making use of consecutive gradient. The non-oscillatoryproperties are secured by limiters to preserve positivity constraints. The implement of the schemeis based on semi-discrete form and can be considered as reconstruction of the coefficient matrix ofalgebraic system, so, it can he conveniently used by either structured or unstructured meshes. Currently, there is a lack of in-situ or model test results for cone penetration tests(CPTs)conducted in deep, dense sand layers under high overburden stresses, restricting the development of empirical relationships between CPT results and the characteristics of such deep, dense sand layers. This study addresses this gap by proposing an empirical relationship to predict the relative density of dense silica sand based on stress level and cone tip resistance. The relationship was developed through CPTs performed in a calibration chamber using dense sand specimens(with relative densities of 74%-91%)subjected to high stresses(under overburden stresses of 0.5-2.0 MPa)and numerical simulations employing the large deformation finite element method. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian method was used to regularly regenerate the mesh to prevent soil element distortion around the cone tip.Additionally, the modified Mohr-Coulomb model was integrated to capture the stress-strain behavior of dense silica sand under high stresses.A reasonable agreement was achieved between the numerical and experimental penetration profiles, which verifies the reliability of the numerical model.A sufficient number of parametric analyses were carried out,and then an empirical equation was proposed to establish the relationship between the relative density of dense sand, stress level and cone resistance. The empirical equation provides predictions with acceptable accuracy,as the discrepancies between the predicted and measured relative density values fall within±30%. 展开更多
