文摘Fertilization or atmospheric deposition of nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)to terrestrial ecosystems can alter soil N(P)availability and the nature of nutrient limitation for plant growth.Changing the allocation of leaf P fractions is potentially an adaptive strategy for plants to cope with soil N(P)availability and nutrient-limiting conditions. However, the impact of the interactions between imbalanced anthropogenic N and P inputs on the concentrations and allocation proportions of leaf P fractions in forest woody plants remains elusive. We conducted a metaanalysis of data about the concentrations and allocation proportions of leaf P fractions, specifically associated with individual and combined additions of N and P in evergreen forests, the dominant vegetation type in southern China where the primary productivity is usually considered limited by P.This assessment allowed us to quantitatively evaluate the effects of N and P additions alone and interactively on leaf P allocation and use strategies.Nitrogen addition(exacerbating P limitation)reduced the concentrations of leaf total P and different leaf P fractions.Nitrogen addition reduced the allocation to leaf metabolic P but increased the allocation to other fractions, while P addition showed opposite trends. The simultaneous additions of N and P showed an antagonistic(mutual suppression)effect on the concentrations of leaf P fractions, but an additive(summary)effect on the allocation proportions of leaf P fractions. These results highlight the importance of strategies of leaf P fraction allocation in forest plants under changes in environmental nutrient availability.Importantly, our study identified critical interactions associated with combined N and P inputs that affect leaf P fractions, thus aiding in predicting plant acclimation strategies in the context of intensifying and imbalanced anthropogenic nutrient inputs.

文摘Exosomes(Exos)are extracellular vesicles secreted by cells and serve as crucial mediators of intercellular communication. They play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and progression of various diseases and offer promising avenues for therapeutic interventions.Exos derived from mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have significant immunomodulatory properties. They effectively regulate immune responses by modulating both innate and adaptive immunity. These Exos can inhibit excessive inflammatory responses and promote tissue repair. Moreover, they participate in antigen presentation, which is essential for activating immune responses. The cargo of these Exos, including ligands, proteins, and microRNAs,can suppress T cell activity or enhance the population of immunosuppressive cells to dampen the immune response.By inhibiting lymphocyte proliferation, acting on macrophages, and increasing the population of regulatory T cells, these Exos contribute to maintaining immune and metabolic homeostasis.Furthermore, they can activate immune-related signaling pathways or serve as vehicles to deliver microRNAs and other bioactive substances to target tumor cells, which holds potential for immunotherapy applications.Given the immense therapeutic potential of MSC-derived Exos, this review comprehensively explores their mechanisms of immune regulation and therapeutic applications in areas such as infection control, tumor suppression, and autoimmune disease management. This article aims to provide valuable insights into the mechanisms behind the actions of MSC-derived Exos, offering theoretical references for their future clinical utilization as cell-free drug preparations.

文摘Alloying and interface effects are effective strategies for enhancing the performance of electrocatalysts in energy-related devices.Herein, dendritic Au-doped platinum-palladium alloy/dumbbell-like bismuth telluride heterostructures(denoted PtPdAu/BiTe)were synthesized using a visible-light-assisted strategy. The coupling alloy and interfacial effects of PtPdAu/BiTe significantly improved the performance and stability of both the ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)and methanol oxidation reaction(MOR).Introducing a small amount of Au effectively enhanced the CO tolerance of PtPdAu/BiTe compared to dendritic platinum-palladium alloy/dumbbell-like bismuth telluride heterostructures.PtPdAu/BiTe exhibited mass activities of 31.5 and 13.3 A·mg_(Pt)^(-1)in EOR and MOR,respectively, which were 34.4 and 13.2 times higher than those of commercial Pt black, revealing efficient Pt atom utilization.In-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy demonstrated complete 12e^(-)and 6e^(-)oxidation of ethanol and methanol on PtPdAu/BiTe.The PtPdAu/BiTe/C achieved mass peak power densities of 131 and 156 mW·mg_(Pt)^(-1),which were 2.4 and 2.2 times higher than those of Pt/C in practical direct ethanol fuel cell(DEFC)and direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC),respectively, highlighting their potential application in DEFC and DMFC.This study introduces an effective strategy for designing efficient and highly CO tolerant anodic electrocatalysts for practical DEFC and DMFC applications.

文摘Natural cemented calcareous sand and limestone are highly complex and not well understood in terms of the me-chanical behavior due to the difficulty of obtaining undisturbed samples from far sea. This paper proposes an artificial method in a laboratory setting using microbial-induced carbonate precipitation(MICP)to simulate the natural process of cementation of limestone. The artificially cemented sand has a high degree of similarity with the natural weakly limestone in three aspects:(1)the mineral composition of the cemented material is also granular calcite and acicular aragonite;(2)the microstructure in interconnected open pore network can be gradually closed and contracted with cementation. The porosity reaches to approximately 9.2%;(3)both the stress-strain relationship and the unconfined strength closely resemble that of natural weakly limestone.Furthermore, both static and dynamic behaviors of artificial limestone were studied by quasi-static compression tests and Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB)tests, finding that the unconfined strength of weakly artifical limestone exponentially increases with increasing strain rate.A rate-dependent bond strength was proposed and implemented in software to reveal the mechanism of strain rate effects. It is found that the loading velocity is too high to keep in sync with the initiation and propagation of cracks under impact loading. This delay-induced viscosity may restrict the movement of the surrounding balls, thus increasing resistance.
文摘Excellent progress has been made in the last few decades in the cure rates of pediatric malignancies, with more than 80%of children with cancer who have access to contemporary treatment being cured. However, the therapies responsible for this survival can also produce adverse physical and psychological long-term outcomes, referred to as late effects, which appear months to years after the completion of cancer treatment.Research has shown that 60%to 90%of childhood cancer survivors(CCSs)develop one or more chronic health conditions, and 20%to 80%of survivors experience severe or life-threatening complications during adulthood. Therefore, understanding the late side effects of such treatments is important to improve the health and quality of life of the growing population of CCSs.
文摘Thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)molecules have outstanding potential for applications in organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs).Due to the lack of systematic studies on the correlation between molecular structure and luminescence properties,TADF molecules are far from meeting the needs of practical applications in terms of variety and number. In this paper, three twisted TADF molecules are studied and their photophysical properties are theoretically predicted based on the thermal vibrational correlation function method combined with multiscale calculations. The results show that all the molecules exhibit fast reverse intersystem crossing(RISC)rates(kRISC),predicting their TADF luminescence properties. In addition, the binding of DHPAzSi as the donor unit with different acceptors can change the dihedral angle between the ground and excited states, and the planarity of the acceptors is positively correlated with the reorganization energy,a property that has a strong influence on the non-radiative process.Furthermore,a decrease in the energy of the molecular charge transfer state and an increase in the kRISC were observed in the films. This study not only provides a reliable explanation for the observed experimental results, but also offers valuable insights that can guide the design of future TADF molecules.
文摘Withania somnifera(L.)Dunal(WS),or Ashwagandha,is used clinically against arthritis, anxiety and insomnia etc, however, its potential in aquafeeds is largely unexplored. We investigated the stress-alleviation and hepatoprotective mechanisms of dietary WS supplementation in adult female darkbarbel catfish.Fish were fed with WS dietary for 5 weeks, subjected to a physical stressor(saline injection),and sampled.Brain were processed for RNA-seq to identify differentially expressed genes(DEGs)linked to stress;serum were assayed for stress-and immune-related biochemical markers;livers were examined for lipid content(Oil Red O staining)and proliferation(PCNA immunos-taining).Network pharmacology were employed to construct a"compound-target"net-work:The bioactive compounds of WS were retrieved from ChEBI and PCIDB,probable targets predicted via Swiss Target Prediction, and the“WS-ingredient-target”regulatory network was constructed using Cytoscape;key ligand-protein interactions were validated by molecular docking.Findings were replicated in juvenile fish and in SG3 cells challenged with Withanolide A.Physical stress evoked 1451 DEGs in control brains, whereas WS-supplemented reduced this to 397,indicating marked mitigation of the oxid-ative-and immune-stress response.Network pharmacology and molecular docking pre-dicted that 13 bioactive compounds in WS,especially Withanolide A and Withanolide J,can interact with targets such as MAPK8,CRHR1,NR3C2,and IARS1,being associated with stress and liver function regulation respectively. Moreover,it was proved that Withanolide A could significantly modulate stress response in juveniles and enhanced pro-liferation potency of SG3 cells.Intriguingly,in theadult female darkbarbel catfish, dietary WS lowered serum cortisol,glucose,ROS,TNF-α,and IL-6(P<0.05),up-regulated hepatocyte PCNA expression, and allievated stress-induced liver injury. These findings provide novel insights and vital basis for elucidating the mechanisms whereby herbs, including WS act in stress-relief and hepatoprotection in darkbarbel catfish. And provide a framework for advancing traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)applications in aquaculture.
文摘BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is a major global health issue, and the perioperative period critic-ally influences patient outcomes. The different effects of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia and propofol total intravenous anesthesia on intraoperative stability, postoperative complications, and long-term oncologic outcomes in patients with gastric cancer undergoing radical gastrectomy remain unclear.AIM To compare the effects of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia and propofol total in-travenous anesthesia on clinical outcomes, including intraoperative indicators, postoperative complications, adverse effects, pain scores, and survival.METHODS This single-center retrospective cohort study included 204 patients who underw-ent radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer from February 2019 to December 2022.Patients were assigned to either the sevoflurane group(n=103)or the propofol group(n=101)based on intraoperative anesthetic regimen.Standardized protoc-ols for anesthesia management, intraoperative monitoring, and postoperative analgesia were applied.Baseline characteristics;intraoperative metrics;adverse events;complications;Visual Analog Scale(VAS)scores at 2,4,6,24,and 48 hours;and survival outcomes were retrospectively collected.Group comparisons were performed usingχ2 for categorical variables,t test for continuous variables,RESULTS Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics were similar between groups. No significant differences were observed in intraoperative indicators or most 30-day postoperative outcomes, including length of stay, emergency department visits, and readmission rates. The propofol group showed elevated mean VAS pain score at 24 hours postoperatively, but no differences were found at other time points. The propofol group also had significantly higher postoperative nausea incidence and transiently higher systolic/diastolic blood pressure and heart rate at the time of incision than the sevoflurane group. No significant differences were seen in overall rates or severity of postoperative complications, intraoperative adverse events,or in overall survival and progression-free survival.CONCLUSION In patients undergoing radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, sevoflurane and propofol anesthesia demonstrated similar profiles regarding intraoperative safety, postoperative complications, adverse events, postoperative pain, and long-term survival. The selection of anesthesia can be personalized without significantly affecting periop-erative or oncologic outcomes.
文摘The pressure and temperature increase resulting from the impact of different threats onto target materials is analyzed with a unified laboratory-scale setup. This allows deriving qualitative information on the occurring phenomenology as well as quantitative statements about the relative effects sizes as a function of target material and threat. The considered target materials are steel, aluminum, and magnesium. As threats, kinetic energy penetrator, explosively formed projectile, and shaped charge jet are used. For the investigated combinations, the measured overpressures vary by a factor of up to 5 for a variation of the material,by a factor of up to 7 for a variation of the threat, and by a factor larger than 15for a simultaneous variation of both. The obtained results as well as the experimental approach are relevant for the basic understanding of impact effects and risks due to material reactivity. The paper combines two main aims.Firstly,to provide a summary of own prior work in a coherent journal article and, secondly,to review and discuss these earlier results with a new perspective.

文摘As a diuretic and dampness-eliminating medicinal agent in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),Zexie(Alismatis Rhizoma)is commonly used for symptoms such as dysuria, edema and abdominal distension, diarrhea with oliguria, and dizziness due to phlegm–fluid retention.Systematic phytochemical studies have revealed that the active components of Zexie(Alismatis Rhizoma)are primarily triterpenoids, along with sesquiterpenes, polysaccharides, sterols, alkaloids, phenolic acids, and lignans. These components form the material basis for its pharmacological activities.Recent breakthroughs in pharmacological research have expanded beyond its traditionally recognized diuretic and anti-inflammatory effects:Its antiurolithiasis effect has been clearly linked to inhibiting the crystallization of stone components and promoting stone expulsion;its renal protective effect can ameliorate kidney injury by reducing oxidative stress and suppressing inflammatory responses in renal tissues;its lipid-lowering mechanism involves regulating lipid metabolism pathways and reducing lipid deposition;in terms of anticancer activity,it exhibits proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction in various tumor cells such as liver, lung, and colon cancers;additionally,it shows significant antibacterial activity against pathogens, including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

It then analyzes and discusses the progress in antibiotic application and time-eff ect studies for neonatal pneumonia treatment, specifically comparing conventional antibiotic therapy with stepwise treatment regimens, and contrasting monotherapy with penicillin, monotherapy with cephalosporins, and combination therapy. Finally, it offers a prospective outlook on antibiotic application and time-effect research in neonatal pneumonia treatment, aiming to provide valuable reference for further scholarly investigations.
文摘Temperate woodland vegetation is initially determined by spatiotemporal and historical factors, mediated by complex biotic interactions. However, catastrophic events such as disease outbreaks(e.g.,sweet chestnut blight, ash dieback),infestations of insect pests, and human-accelerated climate change can create canopy gaps due to systematic decline in,or loss of,tree species that was once an important part of the canopy.Resultant cascade effects have the potential to alter the composition of woodland ecosystems quickly and radically, but inherent lag times make primary research into these effects challenging. Here,we explore change in woodland vegetation at 10 sites in response to canopy opening using the Elm Decline,a rapid loss of Ulmus in woodlands across northwestern Europe~5800 years ago that coexisted alongside other stressors such as increasing human activity,as a palaeoecological analogue. For arboreal taxa, community evenness significantly decreased,within-site turnover significantly increased, and richness remained unchanged.Changes in arboreal taxa were highly site-specific but there was a substantial decline in woody climbing taxa, especially Hedera(ivy),across the majority of sites. For shrub taxa, richness significantly increased but evenness and turnover remained consistent.Interestingly, however, there was a significant increase in abundance of shrubs at 70%of sites, including Calluna(heather),Ilex(holly)and Corylus(hazel),suggesting structural change.Surprisingly, there was no change in richness, evenness or turnover for herb taxa, possibly because change was highly variable spatially. However, there was a marked uptick in the disturbance indicator Plantago(plantain).Overall, these findings suggest that woodlands with sustained reduction in,or loss of,a tree species that once formed an important part of the canopy has profound, but often spatially idiosyncratic, impacts on vegetation diversity(richness),composition(evenness),stability(turnover),and on abundance of specific taxa, especially within the shrub layer.Use of this palaeoecological analogue, which was itself complicated by cooccurring changes in human activity, provides a valuable empirical insight into possible cascade effects of similar change in canopy opening in contemporary settings, including Ash Dieback.
文摘Neural stem cells(NSCs)play a fundamental role in generating diverse neuronal populations that contribute to the formation of intricate neural circuitry.Disturbances arising from intrinsic or extrinsic factors can alter the developmental behavior of NSCs and disrupt nervous system homeostasis. While intrinsic regulatory mechanisms have been elucidated extensively in invertebrate or vertebrate models, the regulatory mechanisms underlying extrinsic cues from the cellular environment remain poorly understood. This review synthesized recent research on cellular ambient effects, including the microenvironment, systemic environment and external factors,on NSCs in Drosophila.Key topics include spatial cues,NSC-glia interactions,long-distance regulation by tissues such as the fat body, and the external environmental stressors like irradiation or viral infection.By integrating these findings, this review provides new insights into how extrinsic signals shape NSCs and bridges gaps between foundational research and clinical translation.

文摘Gilia capitata Sims(Polemoniaceae)is an annual herbaceous plant widely distributed in western North America and cultivated as an ornamental flower. The detailed chemical composition and pharmacological properties of this plant have not been previously reported. This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of aqueous-ethanolic extracts derived from different plant parts(herb, flowers, stems, roots, and fruits).HPLC analysis identified 12 phenolic compounds and 16 amino acids in the aqueous-ethanolic extracts obtained from these plant parts. The biological effects of the extracts were evaluated in vitro, including cytotoxicity,anti-inflammatory response,andwound-healing potential. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by measuring their effect on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 murine macrophages and HaCaT keratinocytes.Phagocytic activity was assessed using the neutral red uptake assay.HaCaT cell proliferation and migration were assessed to evaluate the wound-healing potential.Morphological changes in both cell lines were examined microscopically. Moreover, neurobehavioral effects were studied in vivo. The herb extracts significantly enhanced locomotor activity while preserving exploratory behaviour, suggesting a stimulating effect.G.capitata flower extracts caused a decrease in both locomotor and exploratory behaviour, demonstrating a moderate sedative effect.Fruit extracts significantly suppressed locomotor and exploratory activity, indicating a strong sedative effect. These findings indicated that G.capitata contains bioactive compounds with diverse pharmaceutical effects depending on the specific plant part and may have potential applications in medicine and pharmacology pending further research.
