Adaptive multi-agent reinforcement learning for dynamic pricing and distributed energy management in virtual power plant networks

This paper presents a novel approach to dynamic pricing and distributed energy management in virtual power plant(VPP)networks using multi-agent reinforcement learning(MARL).As the energy landscape evolves towards greater decentralization and renewable integration,traditional optimization methods struggle to address the inherent complexities and uncertainties.Our proposed MARL framework enables adaptive,decentralized decision-making for both the distribution system operator and individual VPPs,optimizing economic efficiency while maintaining grid stability.We formulate the problem as a Markov decision process and develop a custom MARL algorithm that leverages actor-critic architectures and experience replay.Extensive simulations across diverse scenarios demonstrate that our approach consistently outperforms baseline methods,including Stackelberg game models and model predictive control,achieving an 18.73%reduction in costs and a 22.46%increase in VPP profits.The MARL framework shows particular strength in scenarios with high renewable energy penetration,where it improves system performance by 11.95%compared with traditional methods.Furthermore,our approach demonstrates superior adaptability to unexpected events and mis-predictions,highlighting its potential for real-world implementation. 展开更多

In this paper,a distributed Event-Triggered(ET)collision avoidance coordinated control for Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(QUAVs)is proposed based on Virtual Tubes(VTs)with flexible boundaries in the presence of unknown external disturbances.Firstly,VTs are constructed for each QUAV,and the QUAV is restricted into the corresponding VT by the artificial potential field,which is distributed around the boundary of the VT.Thus,the collisions between QUAVs are avoided.Besides,the boundaries of the VTs are flexible by the modification signals,which are generated by the self-regulating auxiliary systems,to make the repulsive force smaller and give more buffer space for QUAVs without collision.Then,a novel ET mechanism is designed by introducing the concept of prediction to the traditional fixed threshold ET mechanism.Furthermore,a disturbance observer is proposed to deal with the adverse effects of the unknown external disturbance.On this basis,a distributed ET collision avoidance coordinated controller is proposed.Then,the proposed controller is quantized by the hysteresis uniform quantizer and then sent to the actuator only at the ET instants.The boundedness of the closed-loop signals is verified by the Lyapunov method.Finally,simulation and experimental results are performed to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed control method. 展开更多

The emerging virtual coupling technology aims to operate multiple train units in a Virtually Coupled Train Set(VCTS)at a minimal but safe distance.To guarantee collision avoidance,the safety distance should be calculated using the state-of-the-art space-time separation principle that separates the Emergency Braking(EB)trajectories of two successive units during the whole EB process.In this case,the minimal safety distance is usually numerically calculated without an analytic formulation.Thus,the constrained VCTS control problem is hard to address with space-time separation,which is still a gap in the existing literature.To solve this problem,we propose a Distributed Economic Model Predictive Control(DEMPC)approach with computation efficiency and theoretical guarantee.Specifically,to alleviate the computation burden,we transform implicit safety constraints into explicitly linear ones,such that the optimal control problem in DEMPC is a quadratic programming problem that can be solved efficiently.For theoretical analysis,sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the recursive feasibility and stability of DEMPC,employing compatibility constraints,tube techniques and terminal ingredient tuning.Moreover,we extend our approach with globally optimal and distributed online EB configuration methods to shorten the minimal distance among VCTS.Finally,experimental results demonstrate the performance and advantages of the proposed approaches. 展开更多

In the islanded operation of distribution networks,due to the mismatch of line impedance at the inverter output,conventional droop control leads to inaccurate power sharing according to capacity,resulting in voltage and frequency fluctuations under minor external disturbances.To address this issue,this paper introduces an enhanced scheme for power sharing and voltage-frequency control.First,to solve the power distribution problem,we propose an adaptive virtual impedance control based on multi-agent consensus,which allows for precise active and reactive power allocation without requiring feeder impedance knowledge.Moreover,a novel consensus-based voltage and frequency control is proposed to correct the voltage deviation inherent in droop control and virtual impedance methods.This strategy maintains voltage and frequency stability even during communication disruptions and enhances system robustness.Additionally,a small-signal model is established for system stability analysis,and the control parameters are optimized.Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. 展开更多

In this study,a novel residential virtual power plant(RVPP)scheduling method that leverages a gate recurrent unit(GRU)-integrated deep reinforcement learning(DRL)algorithm is proposed.In the proposed scheme,the GRU-integrated DRL algorithm guides the RVPP to participate effectively in both the day-ahead and real-time markets,lowering the electricity purchase costs and consumption risks for end-users.The Lagrangian relaxation technique is introduced to transform the constrained Markov decision process(CMDP)into an unconstrained optimization problem,which guarantees that the constraints are strictly satisfied without determining the penalty coefficients.Furthermore,to enhance the scalability of the constrained soft actor-critic(CSAC)-based RVPP scheduling approach,a fully distributed scheduling architecture was designed to enable plug-and-play in the residential distributed energy resources(RDER).Case studies performed on the constructed RVPP scenario validated the performance of the proposed methodology in enhancing the responsiveness of the RDER to power tariffs,balancing the supply and demand of the power grid,and ensuring customer comfort. 展开更多

The paper proposes a Virtual Target Guidance(VTG)-based distributed Model Predictive Control(MPC) scheme for formation control of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs).First, a framework of distributed MPC scheme is designed in which each UAV only shares the information with its neighbors, and the obtained local Finite-Horizon Optimal Control Problem(FHOCP) can be solved by swarm intelligent optimization algorithm.Then, a VTG approach is developed and integrated into the distributed MPC scheme to achieve trajectory tracking and obstacle avoidance.Further, an event-triggered mechanism is proposed to reduce the computational burden for UAV formation control, which takes into consideration the predictive state errors as well as the convergence of cost function.Numerical simulations show that the proposed VTG-based distributed MPC scheme is more computationally efficient to achieve formation control of multiple UAVs in comparison with the traditional distributed MPC method. 展开更多

In this paper, the properties of distributed virtual environment (DVE) and the requirements on computer networks is briefly reviewed. A multicast protocol, called sender initiated grouping multicast protocol for DVE (SIGMP), is proposed. This new multicast protocol is based on a novel concept, multicast group (MG), which divides all participants in a DVE system into groups, among which there is a multicast group trustee (MGT) node to manage the group. The protocol provides unreliable/reliable, totally ordered and multiple to multiple multicast transmission service for DVE systems without sacrificing the communication efficiency heavily. At the same time, reliable unicast and one to multiple multicast transmission services are also supported. The performance analysis of the new protocols is also presented. Based on SIGMP, a simple demonstration of DVE system is designed and implemented. This demo system is running on several SGI workstations connected by a FDDI and Ethernet network. 展开更多

The paradigm shift from a coal-based power system to a renewable-energy-based power system brings more challenges to the supply-demand balance of the grid.Distributed energy resources(DERs),which can provide operating reserve to the grid,are regarded as a promising solution to compensate for the power fluctuation of the renewable energy resources.Small-scale DERs can be aggregated as a virtual power plant(VPP),which is eligible to bid in the operating reserve market.Since the DERs usually belong to different entities,it is important to investigate the VPP operation framework that coordinates the DERs in a trusted man-ner.In this paper,we propose a blockchain-assisted operating reserve framework for VPPs that aggregates various DERs.Considering the heterogeneity of various DERs,we propose a unified reserve capacity evaluation method to facilitate the aggregation of DERs.By considering the mismatch between actual available reserve capacity and the estimated value,the performance of VPP in the operating reserve market is improved.A hardware-based experimental system is developed,and numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. 展开更多

After that, distributed virtual environment (DVE) including the characteristics of virtual guide (VG) technology is discussed to help the operators achieve some tasks through the visibility of control commands, time-delay, movement collision and operators' intentions. The objective of this paper is to provide a robust Virtual Power Plant(VPP)network collaborated with Internet of Things(IoT)which uses a conceptual model to integrate each device in the grid.Based on the functionality all the devices which are purely distributed within the grid are networked initially from residential units to substations and up to service data and demand centres.To ensure the trapping of the available power and the efficient transfer of Distributed Generation(DG)power to the grid Distribution Active Control(DAC)strategy is used.Synchronized optimization of DG parameter which includes DG size,location and type are adopted using Dispatch strategy.The case studies are optimized by rescheduling the generation and with load curtailment.Maximized Customer Benefit(MCB)is taken as an objective function and a straight forward solution is given by heuristic search techniques.This method was vindicated in a practical Indian Utility system.This control proposes better performances,ensures reliability and efficiency even under parameter variations along with disturbances which is justified using IEEE 118 bus system and real time Indian utility 63 bus system.Results reveal that the proposed technique proves advantages of low computational intricacy. 展开更多

In the large-scale Distributed Virtual Environment(DVE)multimedia systems,one of key challenges is to distributedly preserve causal order delivery of messages in real time.Most of the existing causal order control approaches with real-time constraints use vector time as causal control information which is closely coupled with system scales.As the scale expands,each message is attached a large amount of control information that introduces too much network transmission overhead to maintain the real-time causal order delivery.In this article,a novel Lightweight Real-Time Causal Order(LRTCO)algorithm is proposed for large-scale DVE multimedia systems.LRTCO predicts and compares the network transmission times of messages so as to select the proper causal control information of which the amount is dynamically adapted to the network latency variations and unconcerned with system scales.The control information in LRTCO is effective to preserve causal order delivery of messages and lightweight to maintain the real-time property of DVE systems.Experimental results demonstrate that LRTCO costs low transmission overhead and communication bandwidth,reduces causal order violations efficiently,and improves the scalability of DVE systems. 展开更多

清洁能源大规模并网使配电网产生大量灵活性需求,随之带来的灵活性资源传输阻塞问题亟待解决。针对此问题,该文通过探究配电网的灵活性资源传输原理,构建计及配电网潮流的网络传输灵活性资源模型,并基于此提出一种考虑灵活性资源传输约... 清洁能源大规模并网使配电网产生大量灵活性需求,随之带来的灵活性资源传输阻塞问题亟待解决。针对此问题,该文通过探究配电网的灵活性资源传输原理,构建计及配电网潮流的网络传输灵活性资源模型,并基于此提出一种考虑灵活性资源传输约束的配电网日前优化运行方法。首先,综合考虑节点灵活性与网络灵活性构建配电网灵活性分析框架;然后分别构建配电网各节点的灵活性需求与资源模型;随后,结合虚拟潮流精细化构建网络传输灵活性资源模型,以描述灵活性资源传输与配电网潮流的耦合关系,体现节点电压与线路传输容量在灵活性资源传输过程中的限制作用,从而量化配电网实际运行中对灵活性资源的传输能力;最后,提出一种考虑灵活性资源传输约束的配电网日前优化运行方法。算例表明,该文所提的灵活性分析方法符合配电网的运行特点,能够有效减少实际运行中灵活性资源传输阻塞问题带来的影响,并降低配电网的运行成本,提升清洁能源的消纳率。 展开更多

为使虚拟电厂更好地适应多种低碳能源并存的碳市场,建立了一种基于对等架构的虚拟电厂-配电网协同调度双层模型。引入碳排放流理论,结合电网潮流确定节点碳排放责任。建立双层模型,上层为配电网最优潮流模型,下层为虚拟电厂点对点交易... 为使虚拟电厂更好地适应多种低碳能源并存的碳市场,建立了一种基于对等架构的虚拟电厂-配电网协同调度双层模型。引入碳排放流理论,结合电网潮流确定节点碳排放责任。建立双层模型,上层为配电网最优潮流模型,下层为虚拟电厂点对点交易模型。上、下层模型间使用目标级联分析法构建对等架构,并通过共识变量实现协同调度。下层模型使用基于共识的自适应步长交替方向乘子法处理虚拟电厂间点对点交易问题,促进资源消纳的同时实现了隐私保护。以IEEE 33节点配电网为例,对调度结果进行多种分析,验证了所提模型的有效性。 展开更多
