Design process of A/ADm-BCn type directional eutectic composites was instanced by investigating Al-Mg-Si-Li and Ni-Mo-C-Al systems in this study by thermoanalysis and directional solidification techniques. It was demonstrated that A(D)-BCn eutectic alloys could be obtained more conveniently by using Smith′s thermoanalysis method to trace change of the eutectic Points of A-BCn induced by addition of components D. A/ADm-BCn directional eutectic composites could be produced from directionally solidified A/ADm-BCn alloys after proper heat treatments if components D have higher solid solubility in components A at high temperature and stable of metastable phases ADm could be formed at room temperature. 展开更多

The high-temperature tensile fracture behavior of the Ni, Cr, Al-TaC eutectic superal-loy directionally solidified under high temperature gradient is investigated. The high-temperature tensile fracture of this in situ composite has ductile character with lots of ductile nests whose diameters decrease with the increasing solidification rates. The maximum σb and δ are respectively 668.5MPa and 19.6%. There is α TaC whisker in the center of each nest, and the deformation of γ' and TaC is uneven. The high-temperature tensile behavior cannot be explained by the rule of mixtures but is decided by the formation of the plastic deformation band. The crack extension model is given. 展开更多

The Tsai-Hill criterion and Norris criterion of composite materials are extended to predict the cracking direction in composites. The three criteria are used to analyse the crack propagation problem of the unidirectional fibre composite sheet with various fibre directions. The predicted results are compared with those of the existing normal stress ratio criterion and strain energy density criterion. 展开更多

AIM To compare the efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts. METHODS Sixty-two single rooted maxillary and mandibularcentral incisor teeth in forty-four patients (15 males and 29 females; age range 15-32 years) were restored either with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWP) fiber post (Bondable Reinforcement Ribbon, DENSE, Ribbond, Seattle, WA, United States) or a zircon-rich glass fiber post (Snowpost, Lot H 040; Carbotech, Ganges, France). Then, direct resin composite restoration (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) was performed for both post systems in tooth color suitable. Patients were recalled for routine inspections at 6 mo, 1, 2 and 3 years.RESULTS The restorations were assessed during each recall evaluation according to predetermined clinical and radiographic criteria (periapical lesion; marginal leakage and integrity; color stability; surface stain and loss of retention of the post or the composite buildup material). The follow-up data showed no significant difference in these criteria between polyethylene fibre posts and zirconia-rich glass fibre posts.CONCLUSION The efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts were similar, suggesting that both types of fiber post can be used successfully to help retain resin composite restorations. 展开更多

In order to achieve an easy fabrication and considerable directional orientation, we use a sedimentation method to prepare composites consisting of Fe Si Al flakes. The flakes are dispersed in hydroxylated acrylic resin solution in sonication and natural form into laminated composite samples. Then, the toroidal rings are made with the prepared laminated composite samples. Compared with random orientational Fe Si Al flakes in the composite, the complex permeability of laminated sample has been obviously improved when microwave frequency is below 4 GHz, especially for the imaginary part. A model is proposed to explain the formation reason of aligned Fe Si Al composite by this method. Damping factor(α) is calculated by the combination of the effective medium theory and Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, and the permeability of the samples is verified by these theories. 展开更多

Nickel coated diamond composite powders were fabricated via a newly developed direct electrodeposition technique. The effects of activators on the coating of diamond were firstly investigated and diamond grinding wheels were then prepared from Ni-coated diamond composite powders with different activators. The microstructural characterizations of this composite powders were finally conducted by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, and the mechanical and tribological properties of as-prepared diamond grinding wheels were also measured. There are changes in microstructures and properties of the composite powders with activators. The activator concentration also has an influence on the morphologies and phase structures of the Ni coating on diamond particles.The composite powders with more compact coating of nickel can be prepared by adding 1 g dm^(-3) or more AgNO_3 as an activator to electrodeposit nickel on diamond. The mechanical and tribological properties of diamond grinding wheels were significantly improved when the coating phase structure of Ni crystal grew with(111) plane orientation on the surface of diamond particles. The wheels made from nickel coated diamond composite powders possessed the advantages of easy preparation and outstanding tribological properties. Therefore, Ni coated diamond composite powders exhibit a great potential to be extensively applied in diamond cutting and grinding tools. 展开更多

SiCp/Al2O3-Al composites were synthesized by means of direct metal oxidation method. The composition and microstructures of the composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and metallurgical microscope. The effects of technical parameters on the properties of the product were analyzed. The results indicate that the composite possesses a dense microstructure, composed of three interpenetrated phases. Of them, SiO2 layer prohibits the powdering of the composites; Mg promotes the wetting and infiltration of the system and Si restricts the interfacial reaction while improving the wetting ability between reinforcement and matrix. 展开更多
