A differential accelerometer comprising of two rotating masses made of the same material is proposed for drop tower-based free-fall testing of the spin-spin force between the rotating mass and the Earth. The measurement is performed by placing the two concentric masses of very different momenta in a vacuum drop capsule which is falling freely in the Earth's gravitational field. A nonzero output of the differential aeeelerometer is an indication of possible violation of new equivalence principle (NEP). We present the conceptual design of a modified free-fall NEP experiment which can be performed at the Belting drop tower. Design and evaluation of the differential accelerometer with a hybrid electrostatic/magnetic suspension system are presented to accommodate for operation on ground and drop-tower tests. Details specific to the measurement uncertainty are discussed to yield an NEP test accuracy of 7.2×10^-9. 展开更多

A differential excitation probe based on eddy current testing technology was designed. Sheet specimens of Q 235 steel with prefabricated micro-cracks of different widths and of aluminum with prefabricated micro-cracks of different depths were detected through the designed detection system. The characteristics of micro-cracks can be clearly showed after signals processing through the short-time Fourier transform( STFT). By changing the parameter and its value in detecting process, the factors including the excitation frequency and amplitude, the lift-off effect and the scanning direction were discussed, respectively. The results showed that the differential excitation probe was insensitive to dimension and surface state of the tested specimen, while it had a high degree of recognition for micro-crack detection. Therefore, when the differential excitation detection technology was used for inspecting micro-crack of turbine blade in aero-engine,and smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution was used for signal processing,micro-cracks of 0. 3 mm depth and 0. 1 mm width could be identified. The experimental results might be useful for further research on engineering test of turbine blades of aero-engine. 展开更多

DNA microchip used in this study was formed from miniature arrays of pseudorabies virus (PrV) gene-specific probes immobilized on a glass surface. Hybridization using DNA microchip (microarrays) was used for differentiation between virulent and attenuated PrV. The presence of four gene segments (gB, gD, gE~, and gE ) encoding conservative glycoprotein B (gB), D (gD), and E (gE) of PrV was monitored using multiplex PCR. The amplicons were labeled with Cy5 or Cy3 dyes followed by hybridization to the gene-specific capture probes on the microchip. The presence of gD and gB, gE~ gene fragments was shown in virulent (gE~ genotype) and attenuated PrV (gE genotype), whereas gE- gene (deleted domain in gE gene) was demonstrated only in virulent, not in attenuated, virus. No cross-hybridization was observed when fluorescence labeled-PCR products of PrV were hybridized using capture probes of related viruses, such as porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine parvovirus (PPV), Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2). The assay was 10 times sensitive than gD gene-specific PCR. Overall, the results of this study suggested that the microarray might be very useful for detection and differentiation of virulent PrV from attenuated one. 展开更多

Objective:A computational model of insulin secretion and glucose metabolism for assisting the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in clinical research is introduced. The proposed method for the estimation of parameters for a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)that represent the time course of plasma glucose and insulin concentrations during glucose tolerance test(GTT)in physiological studies is presented. The aim of this study was to explore how to interpret those laboratory glucose and insulin data as well as enhance the Ackerman mathematical model. Methods:Parameters estimation for a system of ODEs was performed by minimizing the sum of squared residuals(SSR)function, which quantifies the difference between theoretical model predictions and GTT's experimental observations. Our proposed perturbation search and multiple-shooting methods were applied during the estimating process. Results:Based on the Ackerman's published data,we estimated the key parameters by applying R-based iterative computer programs. As a result, the theoretically simulated curves perfectly matched the experimental data points. Our model showed that the estimated parameters, computed frequency and period values, were proven a good indicator of diabetes. Conclusion:The present paper introduces a computational algorithm to biomedical problems, particularly to endocrinology and metabolism fields, which involves two coupled differential equations with four parameters describing the glucose-insulin regulatory system that Ackerman proposed earlier. The enhanced approach may provide clinicians in endocrinology and metabolism field insight into the transition nature of human metabolic mechanism from normal to impaired glucose tolerance. 展开更多
