Electrically assisted forming(EAF)is a reliable method of reducing the deformation resistance of metallic materials and enhancing their formability.In this study,the mechanical properties and microstructure of Al_(0.5)CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy(HEA)under electrically assisted compression(EAC)were investigated.The results showed that the flow stress decreased with increasing current density in the EAC.Specifically,the flow curves exhibited S-shaped softening at a higher current density,which was dominated by the non-uniform distribution of the Joule heating temperature during EAC.When the flow stress was fixed at 500 MPa and 80 A·mm^(−2),compressible deformation amounts of 63.7%were observed at a strain rate of 1 s−1,indicating full compression of Al_(0.5)CoCrFeNi HEA at low-stress levels.Based on the microstructure,the flowability of Al_(0.5)CoCrFeNi HEA was improved during EAC,and the flow direction shifted from 45°to the horizontal direction.The current density,which influences the Joule heating temperature and strain rate,synergistically affects the stacking fault energy(SFE)and critical resolved shear stress(CRSS),which affect the tendency for twinning behavior.Thererfore,deformation nanoscale twins(DTs)were observed,indicating a shift in the deformation mechanisms from dislocation slip domination to a mixed pattern of dislocation slip and twinning.This study confirmed the deformability of Al_(0.5)CoCrFeNi HEA during EAC and provided an experimental foundation and theoretical support for the formation of HEAs. 展开更多

AIM:To determine whether chronic smoking affects fundus blood flow density using optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)based on artificial intelligence(AI).METHODS:All participants underwent a comprehensive ophthalmological examination in this study.The subjects were categorized into two groups:control and smoker.Fundus data obtained through the novel OCTA device were compared.RESULTS:Utilizing deep learning denoising techniques removed background noise and smoothed vessel surfaces.OCTA showed a significant decrease in fundus blood flow density after AI-based denoising on the right eyes of 36 smokers(36 males,average age 44.17±9.85y)and ageand sex-matched participants who never smoked.The thickness of the retina in both control and smoker groups failed to show any statistically significant differences.Smoking was associated with decreased blood flow density in the macula and the optic disk.CONCLUSION:Utilizing AI-based denoising to improve the sensitivity of OCTA images can be highly beneficial. 展开更多

An experimental system based on the background-oriented schlieren(BOS) technique is built to reconstruct the density and temperature distribution of a flame-induced distorted flow field which has a density gradient. The cross-correlation algorithm with sub-pixel accuracy is introduced and used to calculate the background-element displacement of a disturbed image and a fourth-order difference scheme is also developed to solve the Poisson equation. An experiment for a disturbed flow field caused by a burning candle is performed to validate the built BOS system and the results indicate that density and temperature distribution of the disturbed flow field can be reconstructed accurately. A notable conclusion is that in order to make the reconstructed results have a satisfactory accuracy, the inquiry step length should be less than the size of the interrogation window. 展开更多

Pipes are often used to transport multiphase flows in many engineering applications.The total fluid flow density inside a pipe may vary with time and space.In this paper,a simply supported pipe conveying a variable density flow is modeled theoretically,and its stability and nonlinear vibrations are investigated in detail.The variation of the flow density is simulated using a mathematical function.The equation governing the vibration of the pipe is derived according to Euler-Bernoulli beam theory.When the internal flow density varies with time,the pipe is excited parametrically.The stability of the pipe is determined by Floquet theory.Some simple parametric and combination resonances are determined.For a higher mass ratio(mean flow mass/pipe structural mass),higher flow velocity,or smaller end axial tension,the pipe becomes unstable more easily due to wider parametric resonance regions.In the subcritical flow velocity regime,the vibrations of the pipe are periodic and quasiperiodic for simple and combination resonances,respectively.However,in the supercritical regime,the vibrations of the pipe exhibit much richer dynamics including periodic,multiperiodic,quasiperiodic,and chaotic behaviors. 展开更多

By introducing the traffic anticipation effect in the real world into the original lattice hydrodynamic model, we present a new anticipation effect lattice hydrodynamic (AELH) model, and obtain the linear stability condition of the model by applying the linear stability theory. Through nonlinear analysis, we derive the Burgers equation and Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, to describe the propagating behaviour of traffic density waves in the stable and the metastable regions, respectively. The good agreement between simulation results and analytical results shows that the stability of traffic flow can be enhanced when the anticipation effect is considered. 展开更多

The developmental characteristics of groundwater flow system are not only controlled by formation lithology and groundwater recharge conditions,but also influenced by the physical properties of fluids.Numerical simulation is an effective way to study groundwater flow system.In this paper,the ideal model is generalized according to the fundamental characteristics of groundwater system in inland basins of Western China.The simulation method of variable density flow on the development of groundwater system in inland basins is established by using EOS9 module in TOUGHREACT numerical simulation software.In accordance with the groundwater streamline,the groundwater flow system is divided into three levels,which are regional groundwater flow system,intermediate groundwater flow system and local groundwater flow system.Based on the calculation of the renewal rate of groundwater,the analysis shows that the increase of fluid density in the central part of the basin will restrain the development of regional groundwater flow system,resulting in a decrease of the circulation rate from 32.28% to 17.62% and a certain enhancement to the local groundwater flow system,which increased from 37.29% to 51.94%. 展开更多

The effects of a building's density on urban flows are investigated using a CFD model with the RNG k - ε turbulence closure scheme. Twenty-seven cases with different building's density parameters (e.g., building and street-canyon aspect ratios) are numerically simulated. As the building's density parameters vary, different flow regimes appear. When the street canyon is relatively narrow and high, two counterrotating vortices in the vertical direction are generated. The wind speed along streets is mainly affected by the building's length. However, it is very difficult to find or generalize the characteristics of the street-canyon flows in terms of a single building's density parameter. This is because the complicated flow patterns appear due to the variation of the vortex structure and vortex number. Volume-averaged vorticity magnitude is a very good indicator to reflect the flow characteristics despite the strong dependency of flows on the variation of the building's density parameters. Multi-linear regression shows that the volume-averaged vorticity magnitude is a strong function of the building's length and the street-canyon width. The increase in the building's length decreases the vorticity of the street-canyon flow, while, the increase in the street- canyon width increases the vorticity. 展开更多

AIM:To assess the retinal thickness and fundus blood flow density changes in chest pain patients with dyslipidemia using optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA).METHODS:All subjects with chest pain as the main symptom accepted a comprehensive ophthalmological examination.According to the serum lipid levels,the participants were divided into the control group and the dyslipidemia group.The retina thickness and fundus blood flow density were determined using OCTA.RESULTS:The study enrolled 87 left eyes from 87 adults with dyslipidemia and 87 left eyes from age-and sexmatched participants without dyslipidemia.The retina of dyslipidemia subjects was significantly thinner than that of the controls in the inferior(P=0.004 and P=0.014,respectively)and temporal(P=0.015 and P=0.019,respectively)regions,both inner and outer layers.In terms of blood flow density in the macula or optic disk,there was a decreasing trend in the dyslipidemia group compared with the control group,especially in the inferior and temporal regions.CONCLUSION:Dyslipidemia may contribute to the decrease in retinal thickness and fundus blood flow density.Further validation of the association between abnormal lipid metabolism and fundus microcirculation alterations needs to be carried out in chest pain patients. 展开更多

Unlike other investigators deriving the particle Reynolds stress equations using the PDF equations, the particle PDF transport equations are di- rectly solved either using a finite-difference method for two-dimensional (2D) problems or using a Monte-Carlo (MC) method for three-dimensional (3D) problems. The proposed differential stress model together with the PDF (DSM-PDF) is used to simulate turbulent swirling gas-particle flows. The simulation results are compared with the experimental results and the second-order moment (SOM) two-phase modeling results. All of these simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results, implying that the PDF approach validates the SOM two-phase turbulence modeling. The PDF model with the SOM-MC method is used to simulate evaporating gas-droplet flows, and the simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. 展开更多

In modern pulsed power systems,magnetically insulated transmission lines(MITLs)are used to couple power between the driver and the load.The circuit parameters of MITLs are well understood by employing the concept of flow impedance derived from Maxwell’s equations and pressure balance across the flow.However,the electron density in an MITL is always taken as constant in the application of flow impedance.Thus effects of electron flow current density(product of electron density and drift velocity)in an MITL are neglected.We calculate the flow impedances of an MITL and compare them under three classical MITL theories,in which the electron density profile and electron flow current density are different from each other.It is found that the assumption of constant electron density profile in the calculation of the flow impedance is not always valid.The electron density profile and the electron flow current density have significant effects on flow impedance of the MITL.The details of the electron flow current density and its effects on the operation impedance of the MITL should be addressed more explicitly by experiments and theories in the future. 展开更多

The impact of the E×B flow shear stabilization on particle transport and density peaking at JET is analyzed in the framework of integrated modelling with the CRONOS code.For that purpose,plasmas from a power scan which show a significant increasing of density peaking with the injected neutral beam injection power have been used as a modeling basis.By means of simulations with the quasilinear model GLF23 for the heat and particle transport,a strong link between the particle confinement and E×B flow shear stabilization is found.This is particularly important close to the pedestal region where the particle pinch direction becomes strongly inward for high E×B flow shear values.Such impact introduces some non-negligible deviation from the well-known collisonality dependence of the density peaking,whose general trend has been also obtained in the framework of this modelling by performing pedestal density scans. 展开更多

The hydrogen-iron(HyFe)flow cell has great potential for long-duration energy storage by capitalizing on the advantages of both electrolyzers and flow batteries.However,its operation at high current density(high power)and over continuous cycling testing has yet to be demonstrated.In this paper,we discuss our design and demonstration of a water management strategy that supports high current and long cycling performance of a HyFe flow cell.Water molecules associated with the movement of protons from the iron electrode to the hydrogen electrode are sufficient to hydrate the membrane and electrode at a low current density of 100 mA cm^(-2)during the charge process.At higher charge current density,more aggressive measures must be taken to counter back-diffusion driven by the acid concentration gradient between the iron and hydrogen electrodes.Our water management approach is based on water vapor feeding in the hydrogen electrode,and water evaporation in the iron electrode,thus enabling the high current density operation of 300 mA cm^(-2). 展开更多

A first order explicit finite difference scheme of the IBVP known as Lax-Friedrich’s scheme for our model is presented and a well-posedness and stability condition of the scheme is established. The numerical scheme is implemented in order to perform the numerical features of error estimation and rate of convergence. In recent years, modelling crowd and evacuation dynamics has become very important, with increasing huge numbers of people gathering around the world for many reasons and events. The fact that our global population grows dramatically every year and the current public transport systems are able to transport large amounts of people heightens the risk of crowd panic or crush. Pedestrian models are based on macroscopic or microscopic behaviour. In this paper, we are interested in developing models that can be used for evacuation control strategies. This model will be based on microscopic pedestrian simulation models, and its evolution and design requires a lot of information and data. The people stream will be simulated, based on mathematical models derived from empirical data about pedestrian flows. This model is developed from image data bases, so called empirical data, taken from a video camera or data obtained using human detectors. We consider the individuals as autonomous particles interacting through social and physical forces, which is an approach that has been used to simulate crowd behaviour. The target of this work is to describe a comprehensive approach to model a huge number of pedestrians and to simulate high density crowd behaviour in overcrowding places, e.g. sport, concert and pilgrimage places, and to assist engineering in the resolution of complicated problems through integrating a number of models from different research domains. 展开更多

Ocean singularity analysis and global heat flow prediction reveal anomalous bathymetry and heat flow 被引量:1

The investigations of physical attributes of oceans,including parameters such as heat flow and bathymetry,have garnered substantial attention and are particularly valuable for examining Earth’s thermal structures and dynamic processes.Nevertheless,classical plate cooling models exhibit disparities when predicting observed heat flow and seafloor depth for extremely young and old lithospheres.Furthermore,a comprehensive analysis of global heat flow predictions and regional ocean heat flow or bathymetry data with physical models has been lacking.In this study,we employed power-law models derived from the singularity theory of fractal density to meticulously fit the latest ocean heat flow and bathymetry.Notably,power-law models offer distinct advantages over traditional plate cooling models,showcasing robust self-similarity,scale invariance,or scaling properties,and providing a better fit to observed data.The outcomes of our singularity analysis concerning heat flow and bathymetry across diverse oceanic regions exhibit a degree of consistency with the global ocean spreading rate model.In addition,we applied the similarity method to predict a higher resolution(0.1°×0.1°)global heat flow map based on the most recent heat flow data and geological/geophysical observables refined through linear correlation analysis.Regions displaying significant disparities between predicted and observed heat flow are closely linked to hydrothermal vent fields and active structures.Finally,combining the actual bathymetry and predicted heat flow with the power-law models allows for the quantitative and comprehensive detection of anomalous regions of ocean subsidence and heat flow,which deviate from traditional plate cooling models.The anomalous regions of subsidence and heat flow show different degrees of anisotropy,providing new ideas and clues for further analysis of ocean topography or hydrothermal circulation of mid-ocean ridges. 展开更多

Aqueous organic redox flow batteries(AORFBs)exploit the reversible electrochemical reactions of watersoluble organic redox-active species to store electricity and have emerged as promising electrochemical energy storage technologies.To improve the battery performance related to the cell resistance,such as the power density and energy efficiency,it is essential to understand the cell resistance and determine the major contributor.Here,we conduct comprehensive electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)studies and cell polarization on a representative TEMPTMA/MV cell assembled with a commercial AMVN membrane and probe the proportion of the ohmic resistance to the total cell resistance at various stages of charge(SOCs)ranging from 10%to 100%.At 0 mA·cm^(−2),the ohmic resistance is responsible for 60.3%–71.7%of the resistance of the entire cell,whereas at high current densities(for example,when the power density reaches the maximum),the ohmic resistance still contributes 47.9%–61.4%.Our quantitative analysis highlights the dominance of the ohmic resistance and anticipates that a membrane with lower resistivity may significantly increase the power density. 展开更多

Sharp Interface Establishment through Slippery Fluid in Steady Exchange Flows under Stratification

The variable salinity in stored reservoirs connected by a long channel attracts the attention of scientists worldwide,having applications in environmental and geophysical engineering.This study explores the impact of Navier slip conditions on exchange flows within a long channel connecting two large reservoirs of differing salinity.These horizontal density gradients drive the flow.We modify the recent one-dimensional theory,developed to avoid runaway stratification,to account for the presence of uniform slip walls.By adjusting the parameters of the horizontal density gradient based on the slip factor,we resolve analytically various flow regimes ranging from high diffusion to transitional high advection.These regimes are governed by physical parameters like channel aspect ratio,slip factor,Schmidt number,and gravitational Reynolds number.Our solutions align perfectly with ones in the no-slip limit.More importantly,under the conditions of no net flow across the channel and high Schmidt number(where stratification is concentrated near the channel’s mid-layer),we derive a closed-form solution for the slip parameter,aspect ratio,and gravitational Reynolds number that describes the interface’s behavior as a sharp interface separating two distinct zones.This interface,arising from hydrostatic wall gradients,ultimately detaches the low-and high-density regimes throughout the channel when the gravitational Reynolds number is inversely proportional to the aspect ratio for a fixed slip parameter.This phenomenon,observed previously in 2D numerical simulations with no-slip walls in the literature,is thus confirmed by our theoretical results.Our findings further demonstrate that wall slip leads to distinct and diverse flow regimes. 展开更多
