Based on the Smit-Suhl formula,we propose a universal approach for solving the magnon-magnon coupling problem in bilayer coupled systems(e.g.,antiferromagnets).This method requires only the energy expression, enabling the automatic derivation of analytical expressions for the eigenmatrix elements via symbolic computation, eliminating the need for tedious manual calculations.Using this approach,we investigate the impact of magnetic hysteresis on magnon-magnon coupling in a system with interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction(DMI).The magnetic hysteresis leads to an asymmetric magnetic field dependence of the resonance frequency and alters the number of degeneracy points between the pure optical and acoustic modes. Moreover,it can result in the coupling strength at the gap of the f–H phase diagram being nearly vanishing, contrary to the conventionally expected maximum. These results deepen the understanding of the effect of interlayer DMI on magnon–magnon coupling and the proposed universal method significantly streamlines the solving process of magnon–magnon coupling problems. 展开更多

As the main geomaterials for coral reefs oil or gas extraction and underground infrastructure construction, coral reef limestone demonstrates significantly distinct mechanical responses compared to terrigenous rocks. To investigate the mechanical behaviour of coral reef limestone under the coupling impact of size and strain rate, the uniaxial compression tests were conducted on reef limestone samples with length-to-diameter(L/D)ratio ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 at strain rate ranging from 10^(−5)·s^(−1)to 10^(−2)·s^(−1).It is revealed that the uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)and residual compressive strength(RCS)of coral reef limestone exhibits a decreasing trend with L/D ratio increasing. The dynamic increase factor(DIF)of UCS is linearly correlated with the logarithm of strain rate, while increasing the L/D ratio further enhances the DIF.The elastic modulus increases with strain rate or L/D ratio increasing, whereas the Poisson’s ratio approximates to a constant value of 0.24.The failure strain increases with strain rate increasing or L/D ratio decreasing, while the increase in L/D ratio will inhibit the enhancing effect of the strain rate. The high porosity and low mineral strength are the primary factors contributing to a high RCS of 16.7%–64.9%of UCS,a lower brittleness index and multiple irregular fracture planes. The failure pattern of coral reef limestone transits from the shear-dominated to the splitting-dominated failure with strain rate increasing or L/D ratio decreasing, which is mainly governed by the constrained zones induced by end friction and the strain rate-dependent crack propagation. Moreover,a predictive formula incorporating coupling effect of size and strain rate for the UCS of reef limestone was established and verified to effectively capture the trend of UCS. 展开更多

Granite residual soil (GRS) is a type of weathering soil that can decompose upon contact with water, potentially causing geological hazards. In this study, cement, an alkaline solution, and glass fiber were used to reinforce GRS. The effects of cement content and SiO_(2)/Na2O ratio of the alkaline solution on the static and dynamic strengths of GRS were discussed. Microscopically, the reinforcement mechanism and coupling effect were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the addition of 2% cement and an alkaline solution with an SiO_(2)/Na2O ratio of 0.5 led to the densest matrix, lowest porosity, and highest static compressive strength, which was 4994 kPa with a dynamic impact resistance of 75.4 kN after adding glass fiber. The compressive strength and dynamic impact resistance were a result of the coupling effect of cement hydration, a pozzolanic reaction of clay minerals in the GRS, and the alkali activation of clay minerals. Excessive cement addition or an excessively high SiO_(2)/Na2O ratio in the alkaline solution can have negative effects, such as the destruction of C-(A)-S-H gels by the alkaline solution and hindering the production of N-A-S-H gels. This can result in damage to the matrix of reinforced GRS, leading to a decrease in both static and dynamic strengths. This study suggests that further research is required to gain a more precise understanding of the effects of this mixture in terms of reducing our carbon footprint and optimizing its properties. The findings indicate that cement and alkaline solution are appropriate for GRS and that the reinforced GRS can be used for high-strength foundation and embankment construction. The study provides an analysis of strategies for mitigating and managing GRS slope failures, as well as enhancing roadbed performance. 展开更多

Aqueous rechargeable Ni-Fe batteries exhibit unique advantages in large-scale energy storage thanks to their affordability, safety, and reliability. However, their limited energy density and Coulombic efficiency stem from unfavorable OH^(−)adsorption capability and low electrochemical activity of Fe sites, result in electrode kinetic delays for Fe anodes. Here,we report Mn and S co-modified FeOOH(MSFF)nanosheets as an advanced anode in Ni-Fe batteries, synthesized from a facile one-step surface-redox-etching method at room temperature.Based on the strong electronic coupling effect between Mn and S atoms, such MSFF anode presents fast electron transport capability, enhanced OH^(−)-adsorption capability, and redox reactivity.Specifically, the MSFF anode can achieve a high areal capacity of 2 mAh cm^(−2)at 10 mA cm^(−2),which retains a staggering 96%of the initial capacity after undergoing 9000 cycles at a higher current density of 30 mA cm^(−2).In addition, the assembled Ni-Fe battery can provide a capacity of 0.85 mAh cm^(−2)at 16 mA cm^(−2),significantly outperforming most recently reported aqueous rechargeable batteries. This work may offer an innovative and feasible approach for modulating the local electronic structure of high-performance Ni-Fe battery electrode materials. 展开更多

This paper presents an improved level set method for topology optimization of geometrically nonlinear structures accounting for the effect of thermo-mechanical couplings. It derives a new expression for element coupling stress resulting from the combination of mechanical and thermal loading, using geometric nonlinear finite element analysis.A topological model is then developed to minimize compliance while meeting displacement and frequency constraints to fulfill design requirements of structural members.Since the conventional Lagrange multiplier search method is unable to handle convergence instability arising from large deformation,a novel Lagrange multiplier search method is proposed.Additionally, the proposed method can be extended to multi-constrained geometrically nonlinear topology optimization, accommodating multiple physical field couplings. 展开更多

Based on the rapid advancements in nanomaterials and nanotechnology, the Nanofluidic Reverse Electrodialysis(NRED)has attracted significant attention as an innovative and promising energy conversion strategy for extracting sustainable and clean energy fromthe salinity gradient energy. However, the scarcity of research investigating the intricate multi-factor coupling effects on the energy conversion performance, especially the trade-offs between ion selectivity and mass transfer in nanochannels,of NRED poses a great challenge to achieving breakthroughs in energy conversion processes. This numerical study innovatively investigates the multi-factor coupling effect of three critical operational factors, including the nanochannel configuration, the temperature field, and the concentration difference,on the energy conversion processes of NRED.In this work,a dimensionless amplitude parameter s is introduced to emulate the randomly varied wall configuration of nanochannels that inherently occur in practical applications, thereby enhancing the realism and applicability of our analysis.Numerical results reveal that the application of a temperature gradient, which is oriented in opposition to the concentration gradient, enhances the ion transportation and selectivity simultaneously, leading to an enhancement in both output power and energy conversion efficiency.Additionally, the increased fluctuation of the nanochannel wall from s=0 to s=0.08 improves ion selectivity yet raises ion transport resistance, resulting in an enhancement in output power and energy conversion efficiency but a slight reduction in current.Furthermore, with increasing the concentration ratio cH/cL from 10 to 1000,either within a fixed temperature field or at a constant dimensionless amplitude, the maximumpower consistently attains its optimal value at a concentration ratio of 100 but the cation transfer number experiences amonotonic decrease across this entire range of concentration ratios. Finally, uponmodifying the operational parameters fromthe baseline condition of s=0,c_(H)/c_(L)=10,andΔT=0 K to the targetedconditionof s=0.08,c_(H)/c_(L)=50,andΔT=25 K,there is a concerted improvement observed in the open-circuit potential,short-circuit current, andmaximumpower, with respective increments of 8.86%,204.97%,and 232.01%,but a reduction in cation transfer number with a notable decrease of 15.37%. 展开更多

This study focuses on coupled vibrations of rotating thin-walled composite beams subjected to hygrothermal effects. In the existing literature, many studies have been conducted on coupled bending-torsional vibration and resonance in hygrothermal environments.Few studies considered the coupled flapwise-edgewise and resonances of composite thin-walled beams.Considering this, the flapwise-edgewise coupling effects and resonant characteristics of rotating thin-walled composite beams in a hygrothermal environment are studied. The Rayleigh–Ritz method is used to solve the equations of the beam. Results indicate that flapwise-edgewise coupling factors are essential for the vibration analysis of rectangular thin-walled beams. The ply angle and setting angle strongly affect the internal and external resonances.Large ply angles can significantly reduce the chances of primary internal and external resonances occurring when the permitted rotational speed is lower. 展开更多

This paper prepared a novel as-cast W-Zr-Ti metallic ESM using high-frequency vacuum induction melting technique. The above ESM performs a typical elastic-brittle material feature and strain rate strengthening behavior. The specimens exhibit violent chemical reaction during the fracture process under the impact loading, and the size distribution of their residual debris follows Rosin-Rammler model. The dynamic fracture toughness is obtained by the fitting of debris length scale, approximately 1.87 MPa·m~(1/2).Microstructure observation on residual debris indicates that the failure process is determined by primary crack propagation under quasi-static compression, while it is affected by multiple cracks propagation in both particle and matrix in the case of dynamic impact.Impact test demonstrates that the novel energetic fragment performs brilliant penetration and combustion effect behind the front target, leading to the effective ignition of fuel tank. For the brittleness of as-cast W-ZrTi ESM,further study conducted bond-based peridynamic(BB-PD)C++computational code to simulate its fracture behavior during penetration. The BB-PD method successfully captured the fracture process and debris cloud formation of the energetic fragment. This paper explores a novel as-cast metallic ESM,and provides an available numerical avenue to the simulation of brittle energetic fragment. 展开更多

The collective dynamic of a fractional-order globally coupled system with time delays and fluctuating frequency is investigated. The power-law memory of the system is characterized using the Caputo fractional derivative operator.Additionally, time delays in the potential field force and coupling force transmission are both considered.Firstly, based on the delay decoupling formula, combined with statistical mean method and the fractional-order Shapiro–Loginov formula, the“statistic synchronization”among particles is obtained, revealing the statistical equivalence between the mean field behavior of the system and the behavior of individual particles.Due to the existence of the coupling delay, the impact of the coupling force on synchronization exhibits non-monotonic,which is different from the previous monotonic effects. Then, two kinds of theoretical expression of output amplitude gains G and G are derived by time-delay decoupling formula and small delay approximation theorem, respectively.Compared to G,G is an exact theoretical solution, which means that G is not only more accurate in the region of small delay, but also applies to the region of large delay. Finally, the study of the output amplitude gain G and its resonance behavior are explored.Due to the presence of the potential field delay,a new resonance phenomenon termed“periodic resonance”is discovered, which arises from the periodic matching between the potential field delay and the driving frequency. This resonance phenomenon is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, uncovering undiscovered characteristics in previous studies. 展开更多

Interlayer exchange coupling(IEC)plays a critical role in spin-orbit torque(SOT)switching in synthetic magnets. This work establishes a fundamental correlation between IEC and SOT dynamics within Co/Pt-based synthetic antiferromagnets and synthetic ferromagnets. The antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic coupling states are precisely engineered through Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida(RKKY)interactions by modulating the Ir spacer thickness.Experimental results reveal that the critical switching current density exhibits a strong positive correlation with the IEC strength, regardless of the coupling type.A comprehensive theoretical framework based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation elucidates how IEC contributes to the effective energy barrier that must be overcome during SOT-induced magnetization switching.Significantly, the antiferromagnetically coupled samples demonstrate enhanced SOT efficiency, with the spin Hall angle being directly proportional to the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling field. These insights establish a coherent physical paradigm for understanding IEC-dependent SOT dynamics and provide strategic design principles for the development of energy-efficient next-generation spintronic devices. 展开更多

The wide application of carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP)components in modern aerospace manufacturing field puts high demands on the manufacturing process.Especially, the temperature increase during continuous milling process becomes a key factor affecting the performance of composites, and the high milling temperature induces a variety of processing defects. This paper obtained the temperature variation data during the end milling process of CFRP laminates through experiments. After data fitting, the data were transformed into a function of heat flux density varying with time.In the finite element analysis,a double-ellipsoid moving heat source model was introduced, and a moving heat source subrou-tine was written based on the time-varying function of heat flux density to more accurately describe the thermal effects dur-ing the milling process and simulate the changes in the temperature field during milling. The Hashin failure criterion is a-dopted as the basis of fiber and matrix failure, and the simulation results of the temperature field are input into the thermal-force coupling simulation model as the predefined field conditions for solving and analyzing by means of sequential thermal-force coupling,so as to establish a thermal-force coupling simulation and analysis model for milling processing of CFRP end faces. The model simulation results can provide a basis for exploring the damage evolution law of CFRP material under the influence of temperature. 展开更多

In this study,a series of triaxial tests are conducted on sandstone specimens to investigate the evolution of their mechanics and permeability characteristics under the combined action of immersion corrosion and seepage of different chemical solutions. It is observed that with the increase of confining pressure, the peak stress, dilatancy stress, dilatancy stress ratio, peak strain, and elastic modulus of the sandstone increase while the Poisson ratio decreases and less secondary cracks are produced when the samples are broken. The pore pressure and confining pressure have opposite influences on the mechanical properties. With the increase of the applied axial stress, three stages are clearly identified in the permeability evolution curves:initial compaction stage, linear elasticity stage and plastic deformation stage. The permeability reaches the maximum value when the highest volumetric dilatancy is obtained. In addition, the hydrochemical action of salt solution with pH=7 and 4 has an obvious deteriorating effect on the mechanical properties and induces the increase of permeability. The obtained results will be useful in engineering to understand the mechanical and seepage properties of sandstone under the coupled chemical-seepage-stress multiple fields. 展开更多

While the deformation behavior of rare-earth magnesium alloys at high temperatures has been extensively studied, the deformation mechanisms under moderate-to-low temperatures and high strain rates remain insufficiently understood. To address this gap,hot compression tests were conducted on a Mg-11Gd-3Y-0.5Zr(wt.%)alloy over a temperature range of 150℃–450℃under strain rates of 10^(-3) s^(-1)(low strain rate(LSR))and 10 s^(-1)(high strain rate(HSR))to explore the strain rate-temperature coupling effects during hot deformation. The results revealed an anomalous increase in peak stress at 150℃–250℃as the strain rate decreased, attributed to the combined effects of nano-precipitates,dislocation cell structures, and serrated flow induced by dynamic strain aging. At higher temperatures, strain rate influences softening pathways:under HSR at 450℃,the effect of twinning shifts from strengthening to facilitating dynamic recrystallization(DRX),resulting in substantial grain refinement(-4 μm,81%area fraction at a strain of 0.6).In contrast,at LSR,softening is dominated by dynamic recovery at 350℃,with limited DRX(-4 μm grains,10%area fraction at a strain of 0.6)occurs at 400℃.These findings clarify the dual role of twinning and its interaction with rate-temperature conditions, providing valuable insights into optimizing the hot processing of rare-earth magnesium alloys. 展开更多

Focused ultrasound(FUS)therapy generates sufficient heat for medical interventions like tumor ablation by concentrating energy at the focal point. The complex viscoelastic properties of biological tissues pose challenges in balancing focusing precision and penetration depth, impacting the safety of surrounding tissues and treatment efficacy. This study develops an acoustic-solid-thermal coupling computational model to elucidate the dynamic mechanical response and energy dissipation mechanisms of soft tissue during FUS thermal therapy using a hyper-viscoelastic constitutive model. Results indicate that the high compressibility and low shear resistance of biological tissues result in a unique shear dissipation mechanism.Energy dissipation efficiency per area is indirectly influenced by load frequency via its effect on the dynamic shear modulus and is directly proportional to load amplitude.Focusing precision, represented by the focal zone width,is inversely controlled by frequency via wavelength.A mathematical model for evaluating temperature rise efficiency is proposed, and an optimal frequency for efficient FUS thermal therapy in brain-like soft materials is identified. This research elucidates the link between viscoelastic tissue behavior and FUS treatment outcomes, offering insights for optimizing FUS applications in various medical fields. 展开更多

Narrow backfill earth pressure estimation is applied to study the stability of supporting structures in the vicinity of existing buildings.Previous narrow backfill earth pressure studies have neglected seismic-unsaturated seepage multi-field coupling, resulting in inaccurate estimates. To address these deficiencies, this paper proposed a calculation method for seismic passive earth pressure in unsaturated narrow backfill, based on inclined thin-layer units. It considers the interlayer shear stress, arching effect, and the multi-field coupling of seismic-unsaturated seepage.Additionally, this paper includes a parametric sensitivity analysis. The outcomes indicate that the earthquake passive ground pressure of unsaturated narrow backfill can be reduced by increasing the aspect ratio, seismic acceleration coefficient, and unsaturation parameterα.It can also be reduced by decreasing the effective interior friction angle, soil cohesion, wallearth friction angle, and vertical discharge.Furthermore, for any width soil, lowering the elevation of the action point of passive thrust can be attained by raising the effective interior friction angle,wall-earth friction angle, and unsaturation parameterα.Reducing soil cohesion, seismic acceleration coefficient, and vertical discharge can also lower the height of the application point of passive thrust. 展开更多

A new piezoelectric energy harvester is proposed which employs the coupling effect between a piezoelectric beam and an elastic-supported sphere to capture wind energy from multiple directions. As wind flows across the sphere,it induces vortical vibrations that transfer to the piezoelectric beam, converting wind energy into electricity.A nonlinear coupled dynamic theoretical model based on the Euler-Lagrange equation is developed to study the interactions between the sphere and beam vibrations. The vortex-induced force acting on the sphere is determined, and the dynamic model of the coupled system is validated through experiments. The results show that in order to reach convergence,at least four modes are required in the Galerkin discretization. Moreover, the output performance of the energy harvester strongly depends on the frequency ratio between the sphere and the piezoelectric beam.We find that at a frequency ratio of approximately 1.34,the harvester achieves a maximum average power of 190μW at a wind speed of 3.90 m/s,with the lock-in region between 2.63 and 5.30 m/s.Subsequently,the impact of wind flow direction on the electrical performance of the energy harvester is investigated in a wind tunnel,by adjusting the angle between the harvester and incoming flows ranging from 0°to 360°.The findings indicate that the harvester maintains strong and consistent performance across variable wind flow directions and speeds.Particularly within the lock-in region, the output voltage fluctuations are below 5.5%,showcasing the robustness of the design. This result points to the potential utility of this novel harvester in complex environments. Our study also provides a theoretical basis for the development of small-scale offshore wind energy harvesting technologies. 展开更多
