A three-dimensional mathematical model was established to predict the multiphase flow, motion and dispersion of desulfurizer particles, and desulfurization of hot metal during the Kanbara reactor(KR)process. The turbulent kinetic energy-turbulent dissipation rate(k-ε)turbulence model,volume-of-fluid multiphase model,discrete-phase model, and unreacted core model for the reaction between the hot metal and particles were coupled. The measured sulfur content of the hot metal with time during the actual KR process was employed to validate the current mathematical model. The distance from the lowest point of the liquid level to the bottom of the ladle decreased from 3170 to2191 mm when the rotation speed increased from 30 to 110 r/min,which had a great effect on the dispersion of desulfurizer particles. The critical rotation speed for the vortex to reach the upper edge of the stirring impeller was 70 r/min when the immersion depth was 1500 mm.The desulfurization rate increased with the increase in the impeller rotation speed, whereas the influence of the immersion depth was relatively small.Formulas for different rotation parameters on the desulfurization rate constant and turbulent energy dissipation rate were proposed to evaluate the variation in sulfur content over time. 展开更多

This paper introduces the results of selecting and breeding a micro-organism, Strain I, and its core model experiment investigation for microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR). Strain I was separated from the formation water of the Dagang oil field, with analytical results showing that Strain I is a gram-positive bacillus. A further study revealed that this strain has an excellent tolerance of environmental stresses: It can survive in conditions of 70℃, 30 wt% salinity and pH3.5-9.4. Strain I can metabolize biosurfactants that could increase the oil recovery ratio, use crude oil as the single carbon source, and decompose long-chain paraffin with a large molecular weight into short-chain paraffin with a small molecular weight. The core model experiment shows that Strain I enhances oil recovery well. Using 2 vol% of the fermentation solution of Strain I to displace the crude oil in the synthetic plastic bonding core could increase the recovery ratio by 21.6%. 展开更多

The influence of core sand properties on flow dynamics was investigated synchronously with various core sands, transparent core-box and high-speed camera. To confirm whether the core shooting process has significant turbulence, the flow pattern of sand particles in the shooting head and core box was reproduced with colored core sands. By incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow(KTGF), kinetic-frictional constitutive correlation and turbulence model, a two-fluid model(TFM) was established to study the flow dynamics of the core shooting process. Two-fluid model(TFM) simulations were then performed and a areasonable agreement was achieved between the simulation and experimental results. Based on the experimental and simulation results, the effects of turbulence, sand density, sand diameter and binder ratio were analyzed in terms of filling process, sand volume fraction(αs) and sand velocity(Vs). 展开更多

Controlling inclusion composition, from the point of view of thermodynamics, only explains the probability and limit of reaction. However, kinetics makes the nucleation and the velocity of growth of inclusions clear, and these kinetic factors are very important to the quality of slab. The basic kinetic theory of unreacted core model was used to build the mathematical model for the growth of inclusions and the concerned software was developed through Visual Basic 6.0. The time that different radius inclusions attain saturation was calculated to determine the controlling step of reaction between steel and inclusions. The time for the growth of inclusion obtained from the model was in good agreement with the data measured by Japanese Okuyama G, which indicated that the model is reasonable. 展开更多

The SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) which is a 330 MWt advanced integral PWR was developed by the KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Institute) for electricity generation and seawater desalination. To enhance its safety, the various design concepts were adopted such as the most containing of the RCS (reactor coolant system) components and a PRHRS (passive residual heat removal system). To ensure the safety and performance of the SMART, a thermal hydraulic evaluation and safety analysis are performed by the TASS/SMR-S code. It uses a one dimensional node/path modeling and point kinetics for the core power simulation. The code also has specific models reflecting the design features of the SMART such as a helical tube and PRHRS heat transfer models. In this study, the validation of the core heat transfer model in the TASS/SMR-S code on the steady conditions was performed with the Bennett's heated tube tests and THTF (thermal hydraulic test facility) experiment. From the results of the TASS/SMR-S code calculation, the CHF (critical heat flux) point and the fuel rod surface temperature were predicted conservatively compared to the test results. 展开更多

Sulfur trioxide(SO_(3))as a condensable particle matter has a significant influence on atmospheric visibility, which easily arouses formation of haze.It is imperative to control the SO_(3)emission from the industrial flue gas.Three commonly used basic absorbents, including Ca(OH)_(2),MgO and NaHCO_(3)were selected to explore the effects of temperature,SO_(2)concentration on the SO_(3)absorption,and the reaction mechanism of SO_(3)absorption was further illustrated. The suitable reaction temperature for various absorbents were proposed,Ca(OH)_(2)at the high temperatures above 500°C,MgO at the low temperatures below 320°C,and NaHCO_(3)at the temperature range of 320–500°C.The competitive absorption between SO_(2)and SO_(3)was found that the addition of SO_(2)reduced the SO_(3)absorption on Ca(OH)_(2)and NaHCO_(3),while had no effect on MgO.The order of the absorption selectivity of SO_(3)follows MgO,NaHCO_(3)and Ca(OH)_(2)under the given conditions in this work. The absorption process of SO_(3)on NaHCO_(3)follows the shrinking core model, thus the absorption reaction continues until NaHCO_(3)was exhausted with the utilization rate of nearly 100%.The absorption process of SO_(3)on Ca(OH)_(2)and MgO follows the grain model, and the dense product layer hinders the further absorption reaction, resulting in low utilization of about 50%for Ca(OH)_(2)and MgO.The research provides a favorable support for the selection of alkaline absorbent for SO_(3)removal in application. 展开更多

Copper-nickel tailings(CNTs),consisting of more than 80wt%magnesium-bearing silicate minerals, show great potential for CO_(2)mineral sequestration. The dissolution kinetics of CNTs in HCl solution was investigated through a leaching experiment and kinetic modeling, and the effects of reaction time,HCl concentration,solid-to-liquid ratio, and reaction temperature on the leaching rate of mag-nesium were comprehensively studied. Results show that the suitable leaching conditions for magnesium in CNTs are 2 M HCl,a solid-to-liquid ratio of 50 g·L^(−1),and 90℃,at which the maximum leaching rate of magnesium is as high as 83.88%.A modified shrinking core model can well describe the leaching kinetics of magnesium. The dissolution of magnesium was dominated by a combination of chemical reaction and product layer diffusion, with a calculated apparent activation energy of 77.51 kJ·mol^(−1).This study demonstrates the feasibil-ity of using CNTs as a media for CO_(2)mineral sequestration. 展开更多

With the significant development of high-intensity hadron(proton and heavy ion)accelerator facilities, the space charge effect has become a major limiting factor for increasing beam intensity because it can drive particle resonance, forming beam halos and causing beam quality degradation or even beam loss.In studies on space charge, the particle-core model(PCM)has been widely adopted to describe halo particle formation. In this paper,we generalize the conventional PCM to include dispersion to investigate the physical mechanism of the beam halo in high-intensity synchrotrons. In particular,a“1:1 parametric resonance”driven by the combined effects of space charge and dispersion is identified.A large dispersion is proven to have a damping effect on the 2:1 parametric resonance. The analysis based on the generalized PCM agrees with particle-in-cell simulations.A beam halo with large mismatch oscillations is also discussed. 展开更多

In order to solve the problems of environment pollution and high cost in traditional process of bismuth subcarbonate preparation, a new process using ball-milling transformation method from NH4HCO3 and Bi2O3 was proposed. Additionally, the kinetics of bismuth subcarbonate preparation was studied. Effects of reaction temperature, particle size of bismuth oxide, solid-to-liquid ratio and concentrations of ammonium bicarbonate on the conversion rate of bismuth oxide were studied. The results indicate that the conversion rate of bismuth oxide significantly increased under the conditions of higher temperature, smaller particle size, higher concentration of ammonium bicarbonate and smaller solid-to-liquid ratio. The XRD and ICP-AES analyses show that the purity of product is high. The reaction kinetics with activation energy of 9.783 kJ/mol was analyzed by shrinking core model, and the whole transformation process is controlled by solid product layer diffusion. A semi-empirical kinetics equation was obtained to describe the conversion process. 展开更多

The direct leaching kinetics of an iron-poor zinc sulfide concentrate in the tubular reactor was examined. All tests werecarried out in the pilot plant. To allow the execution of hydrostatic pressure condition, the slurry with ferrous sulfate and sulfuric acidsolution was filled into a vertical tube(9m in height)and air was blown from the bottom of the reactor. The effects of initial acidconcentration, temperature, particle size, initial zinc sulfate concentration, pulp density and the concentration of Fe on the leachingkinetics were investigated. Results of the kinetic analysis indicate that direct leaching of zinc sulfide concentrate follows shrinkingcore model(SCM).This process was controlled by a chemical reaction with the apparent activation energy of49.7kJ/mol.Furthermore,a semi-empirical equation is obtained, showing that the order of the iron, sulfuric acid and zinc sulfate concentrationsand particle radius are0.982,0.189,-0.097and-0.992,respectively.Analysis of the unreacted and reacted sulfide particles bySEM-EDS shows that insensitive agitation in the reactor causes detachment of the sulfur layer from the particles surface in lowerthan60%Zn conversion and lixiviant in the face with sphalerite particles. 展开更多

This research introduces an equivalent circuitmodel and a computational method to address complex mechanical motion issues through electromechanical analogies. The study initially refines core vibration characteristics using single-and multi-degree-of-freedom models, subsequently establishing equivalent circuit models for these various degrees of freedom. However, employing high degree-of-freedom models for detailed modelling of the core proves overly cumbersome. The research advocates for a distributed equivalent circuit model to more accurately represent the core's layered structure, thus facilitating enhanced core modelling. Moreover, the study formulates a mechanical wave transmission equation pertinent to the vibration of the iron core, which constitutes the foundation of the distributed mechanical vibration model. This model comprehensively assesses the impact of three critical factors on core vibration:the non-linearity of winding resistance, the elec-tromechanical coupling coefficient, and the dynamic stiffness of the core.A case study elucidates the distinct influences of each factor on vibration characteristics.Furthermore, this study derives vibration calculations from a 60-day overload ageing test conducted on a 10 kV transformer under 135℃overloadconditions.The methodology involves integrating measured compression force values and the calculated dynamic stiffness of the core into an equivalent circuit model.Subsequent analysis compares the results from the equivalent circuit model with experimental measurements. These comparisons indicate an agreement between the calculated and measured values in the time-frequency domain, thereby con-firming the accuracy of the equivalent circuit model calculations. 展开更多

Phosphogypsum(PG)is a potential resource for rare earth elements(REEs).Several studies have been carried out on REE leaching from PG.However, few in-depth studies have investigated the kinetics of this leaching process. In this study, the leaching kinetics of REEs from PG in nitric acid at different temperatures were explored in depth. The experiments show that the maximum leaching recovery for ΣREE was 58.5%,75.9%and 83.4%at 30,60 and 80℃,respectively.Additionally,among La,Ce,Y and Nd,Y had the highest leaching rate.A new shrinking core model(SCM)based on the dissolution reaction of a cylindrical solid particle with interfacial transfer and diffusion across the product layer as the rate-controlling step was deduced and could well fit the leaching process of REEs from PG.The activation energies for the leaching of La,Ce,Y and Nd were determined on the basis of the new cylindrical SCM.In summary, the cylindrical SCM was a more suitable fitting model than the spherical SCM,and the interfacial transfer and diffusion across the product layer were the rate-controlling step for REE leaching from the PG sample. 展开更多

Induration process of oxidized pellets involves the oxidation of Fe3O4 and re-crystallization of Fe2O3.The oxidation process of Fe3O4 is significant for pellets to obtain better ambient strength. Thus, the effect of MgO on oxidation process of Fe3O4 was investigated. The unreacted core model was applied to analyze the oxidizing induration process of pellets. The experimental results show that MgO plays a negative role in the oxidation process of Fe3O4.The oxidation rate of Fe3O4 in MgO-fluxed pellets(95.0% Fe3O4 +5.0% MgO)is slower than that in standard acid pellets(100% Fe3O4).The relation between oxidation ratio of Fe3O4 and time was calculated based on the unreacted core model for both MgO-fluxed pellets and standard acid pellets.According to verification experiments, the values calculated by model coincide well with the experimental values. Therefore, the unreacted core model could be applied to describe the oxidizing induration process of pellets. 展开更多

Japan started the national project“COURSE 50”for CO_(2) reduction in the 2000s.This project aimed to establish novel technologies to reduce CO_(2) emissions with partially utilization of hydrogen in blast furnace-based ironmaking by 30%by around 2030 and use it for practical applications by 2050.The idea is that instead of coke, hydrogen is used as the reducing agent, leading to lower fossil fuel consumption in the process. It has been reported that the reduction behavior of hematite, magnetite, calcium ferrite, and slag in the sinter is different, and it is also considerably influenced by the sinter morphology. This study aimed to investigate the reduction behavior of sinters in hydrogen enriched blast furnace with different mineral morphologies in CO-CO_(2)-H2 mixed gas.As an experimental sample, two sinter samples with significantly different hematite and magnetite ratios were prepared to compare their reduction behaviors. The reduction of wustite to iron was carried out at 1000,900,and 800℃ in a CO-CO_(2)-H2 atmosphere for the mineral morphology-controlled sinter, and the following findings were obtained. The reduction rate of smaller amount of FeO led to faster increase of the reduction rate curve at the initial stage of reduction.Macro-observations of reduced samples showed that the reaction proceeded from the outer periphery of the sample toward the inside, and a reaction interface was observed where reduced iron and wustite coexisted.Micro-observations revealed three layers, namely, wustite single phase in the center zone of the sample, iron single phase in the outer periphery zone of the sample, and iron oxide-derived wustite FeO and iron,or calcium ferritederived wustite'FeO'and iron in the reaction interface zone.A two-interface unreacted core model was successfully applied for the kinetic analysis of the reduction reaction, and obtained temperature dependent expressions of the chemical reaction coefficients from each mineral phases. 展开更多

The electrophysical property of saturated rocks is very important for reservoir identification and evaluation. In this paper, the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to study the electrophysical property of rock saturated with fluid because of its advantages over conventional numerical approaches in handling complex pore geometry and boundary conditions. The digital core model was constructed through the accumulation of matrix grains based on their radius distribution obtained by the measurements of core samples. The flow of electrical current through the core model saturated with oil and water was simulated on the mesoscopic scale to reveal the non-Archie relationship between resistivity index and water saturation (I-Sw). The results from LBM simulation and laboratory measurements demonstrated that the I-Sw relation in the range of low water saturation was generally not a straight line in the log-log coordinates as described by the Archie equation. We thus developed a new equation based on numerical simulation and physical experiments. This new equation was used to fit the data from laboratory core measurements and previously published data. Determination of fluid saturation and reservoir evaluation could be significantly improved by using the new equation. 展开更多

For the recycling of ferrous sludge from steel industry, the carbonation pellet process should be considered as a"green"process, since no impurities are added as well as CO_(2) can be sequestrated and consumed.Through the thermodynamic calculation, the carbonation reaction can occur spontaneously and is an exothermic reaction.Based on the kinetic analysis through unreacted core model, the interfacial chemical reaction was the rate controlling step in the initial fast stage of carbonation, and the CO_(2) diffusion through the CaCO_(3) product layer was the rate controlling step in the following extremely slow stage. For the carbonation bonded mechanism, the pellet strength was gained by the formation and growing of CaCO_(3) product layer.Since the interfacial chemical reaction was the critical stage of the entire carbonation process, the emphasizes should be focused on the improvement of sorbent activity and the optimization of process parameters, such as pore structure, pore surface area, and total pressure,CO_(2) partial pressure, reaction temperature, etc to accelerate the reaction rate and to improve the quality of carbonation pellets. 展开更多

The leaching of rare earth elements (REEs) including cerium, lanthanum and neodymium from apatite concentrate obtained from iron ore wastes by nitric acid was studied. The effects of nitric acid concentration, solid to liquid ratio and leaching time on the recoveries of Ce, La and Nd were investigated using response surface methodology. The results showed that the acid concentration and solid to liquid ratio have significant effect on the leaching recoveries while the time has a little effect. The maximum REE leaching recoveries of 66.1%, 56.8% and 51.7% for Ce, La and Nd, respectively were achieved at the optimum leaching condition with 18% nitric acid concentration, 0.06 solid to liquid ratio and 38 min leaching time. The kinetics of cerium leaching was investigated using shrinking core model. It was observed that the leaching is composed of two stages. In the first stage a sharp increase in cerium leaching recovery was observed and at the longer time the leaching became slower. It was found that in the first stage the diffusion of reactants from ash layer is the rate controlling mechanism with an apparent activation energy of 6.54 kJ/mol, while in the second stage the mass transfer in the solution is the controlling mechanism. 展开更多

The leaching behavior of Tunceli malachite mineral was investigated in nitric acid solutions by two steps to evaluate the effect of various experimental parameters. In the first step, the optimal conditions for the leaching process were determined, while in the second step,a kinetic evaluation for the process was performed. In the optimization experiments, the concentration of nitric acid, temperature, stirring speed, and solid-to-liquid ratio were selected as the independent variables, and the central composite design method(CCD)was applied to the experimental data.At the end of the experiments, the optimal values for the concentration of nitric acid,temperature,solid-to-liquid ratio and stirring speed were determined to be 0.5 mol/L,50℃,0.004 g/m L and 500 r/min,respectively.Under the optimal conditions, the leaching rate was found to be 99%for 120 min of reaction time.In the kinetic evaluation tests, the effects of the concentration of nitric acid, temperature, stirring speed,solid-to-liquid ratio and particle size on the leaching rate of copper from malachite were investigated. In these tests,it was determined that the leaching rate increased with the increase in the temperature, acid concentration and stirring speed, and with the decrease in the particle size and solid-to-liquid ratio. In consequence of the kinetic analysis,it was observed that the leaching kinetics followed the mixed kinetic model, and a mathematical model for the leaching process was introduced. The activation energy for this process was calculated to be 36.23 k J/mol. 展开更多

The reducibility of iron-bearing burdens was emphasized for improving the operation efficiency of blast furnace. The blast furnace operation of charging the burdens with high reducibility has been numerically evaluated using a multi-fluid blast furnace model. The effects of reaction rate constants and diffusion coefficients were investigated separately or simultaneously for clarifying the variations of furnace state. According to the model simulation results, in the upper zone, the indirect reduction of the burdens proceeds at a faster rate and the shaft efficiency is enhanced with the improvement under the conditions of interface reaction and intra-particle diffusion. In the lower zone, direct reduction in molten slag is restrained. As a consequence, CO utilization of top gas is enhanced and the ratio of direct reduction is decreased. It is possible to achieve higher energy efficiency of the blast furnace, and this is represented by the improvement in productivity and the decrease in consumption of reducing agent. The use of high-reducibility burdens contributes to a better performance of blast furnace. More efforts are necessary to develop and apply highreducibility sinter and carbon composite agglomerates for practical application at a blast furnace. 展开更多
