In the seismic safety evaluation (SSE) for key projects, the probability-consistent spectrum (PCS), usually obtained from probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA), is not consistent with the design response spectrum given by Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB50011-2001). Sometimes, there may be a remarkable difference be-tween them. If the PCS is lower than the corresponding code design response spectrum (CDS), the seismic fortifi-cation criterion for the key projects would be lower than that for the general industry and civil buildings. In the paper, the relation between PCS and CDS is discussed by using the ideal simple potential seismic source. The re-sults show that in the most areas influenced mainly by the potential sources of the epicentral earthquakes and the regional earthquakes, PCS is generally lower than CDS in the long periods. We point out that the long-period re-sponse spectra of the code should be further studied and combined with the probability method of seismic zoning as much as possible. Because of the uncertainties in SSE, it should be prudent to use the long-period response spectra given by SSE for key projects when they are lower than CDS. 展开更多

Simulation results show that the new method has highrobustness and under the same conditions of bit error, the lowerthe code rate, the higher the recognition rate. The study uses an actual building to compare the modal response spectrum analysis results of Saudi Building Code (SBC) and the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC) used in Saudi Arabia before the introduction of SBC. A sample of four buildings with reported analysis of comparison between IBC and UBC is taken for confirming the comparison. Eight sample places from SBC map for Saudi Arabia together with two sample places of high seismic activity in USA were taken for the comparisons. The study used software package ETABS in this study for modeling and analysis. The results are dissimilar from the comparisons reported for test places of USA. It is concluded that at most places SBC base shear is higher for both ELFP and MRSA. However, the results cannot be generalized and considered always right. The same is factual for overturning moments. Consequently, we cannot report that SBC is more conservative than UBC for all scenarios. 展开更多

Dynamic spectrum access(DSA) in cognitive radio(CR) networks became a challenging research area recently. In CR technology, the DSA between primary users(PUs) and secondary users(SUs) simultaneously can be achieved without degrading the performance of the PUs by SUs interference. This can be achieved by donating incentive power to the PUs in order to compensate the interference caused by the SUs. Consequently, PUs allow SUs to share the spectrum. In this paper, orthogonal codes-based dynamic spectrum access(OC-DSA) technique is proposed. OC-DSA technique employs orthogonality between PUs and SUs transmitted data symbols in addition to the incentive power donation. Compared to other techniques, the proposed technique uses a simple encoder at the SU network for the same PU network infrastructure. By applying orthogonal codes, the interference caused by SUs is canceled and hence the donated power to incentivize the PUs is reduced. Also, the SU packet rate is increased significantly. The simulation results show that the proposed technique provides effective improvements over other existing techniques in the signal strength and the bit error rate performance of both the PU network and the SU network at the receiver side. Moreover, the proposed technique requires less donated power to incentivize the PU and has higher packet rate. 展开更多

Irregular and regular LDPC codes with high spectrum efficiency modulation in image transmission over fading channel 被引量:1

If the degree distribution is chosen carefully, the irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes can outperform the regular ones. An image transmission system is proposed by combining regular and irregular LDPC codes with 16QAM/64QAM modulation to improve both efficiency and reliability. Simulaton results show that LDPC codes are good coding schemes over fading channel in image communication with lower system complexity. More over, irregular codes can obtain a code gain of about 0.7 dB compared with regular ones when BER is 10 -4. So the irregular LDPC codes are more suitable for image transmission than the regular codes. 展开更多

Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) system is often deployed to protect wireless communication from jamming or to preclude undesired reception of the signal. Such themes can only be achieved if the jammer or undesired receiver does not have the knowledge of the spreading code. For this reason, unencrypted M-sequences are a deficient choice for the spreading code when a high level of security is required. The primary objective of this paper is to analyze vulnerability of linear feedback shift register (LFSRs) codes. Then, a new method based on encryption algorithm applied over spreading codes, named hidden frequency hopping is proposed to improve the security of FHSS. The proposed encryption security algorithm is highly reliable, and can be applied to all existing data communication systems based on spread spectrum techniques. Since the multi-user detection is an inherent characteristic for FHSS, the multi-user interference must be studied carefully. Hence, a new method called optimum pair “key-input” selection is proposed which reduces interference below the desired constant threshold. 展开更多

Long PN-code acquisition is a difficult and time-consuming task due to long code period.To accelerate acquisition,folding methods like XFAST are widely used.In highdynamic environment however,the application of those methods are largely restricted due to nonnegligible residual frequency.This paper proposes a new dual-channel method for fast acquisition of long PN-code.In the proposed method,both non-overlapping local PNcode blocks are employed to correlate with input sample block;the detection process is eased through finding the maximum value among correlation results and verification is made with all the full and partial peaks taken into account.False alarm probabilities from analysis of the verification process are derived.Both theoretical and Monte Carlo simulations reveal that,with respect to acquisition probability and mean acquisition time under the same false alarm rate,dual-channel method has advantage over zero-padding and XFAST based folding methods under certain false alarm probabilities. 展开更多

A versatile approach is employed to generate artificial accelerograms which satisfy the compatibility criteria prescribed by the Chinese aseismic code provisions GB 50011-2001. In particular, a frequency dependent peak factor derived by means of appropriate Monte Carlo analyses is introduced to relate the GB 50011-2001 design spectrum to a parametrically defined evolutionary power spectrum (EPS). Special attention is given to the definition of the frequency content of the EPS in order to accommodate the mathematical form of the aforementioned design spectrum. Further, a one-to-one relationship is established between the parameter controlling the time-varying intensity of the EPS and the effective strong ground motion duration. Subsequently, an efficient auto-regressive moving-average (ARMA) filtering technique is utilized to generate ensembles of non-stationary artificial accelerograms whose average response spectrum is in a close agreement with the considered design spectrum. Furthermore, a harmonic wavelet based iterative scheme is adopted to modify these artificial signals so that a close matching of the signals' response spectra with the GB 50011-2001 design spectrum is achieved on an individual basis. This is also done for field recorded accelerograms pertaining to the May, 2008 Wenchuan seismic event. In the process, zero-phase high-pass filtering is performed to accomplish proper baseline correction of the acquired spectrum compatible artificial and field accelerograms. Numerical results are given in a tabulated format to expedite their use in practice. 展开更多

The puncturing period and puncturing patterns, which have important effect on the performance of punctured turbo codes (PTC), yet have not received complete investigations, are addressed in this paper. Proposes on selecting puncturing period and puncturing patterns are presented. Since puncturing will alter the distance spectrum of turbo codes, the performance of PTC needs further consideration. We derive an analytical upper bound for PTC, based on the assumption of uniform puncturing defined in this paper. Finally, we present some numeric results on the performance of PTC. 展开更多

Performance of Block Space-Time Code in Wireless Channel Dynamics

The block space-time code is optimally constructed in slow fading. The block code in quasistatic fading channels provides affordable complexity in design and construction. Our results show that the performance of the block space-time code may not be as good as conventionally convolutional coding with serial transmission for some channel features. As channel approaches fast fading, a coded single antenna scheme can collect as much diversity as desired by correctly choosing the free distance of code. The results also point to the need for robust space-time code in dynamic wireless fading channels. We expect that self-encoded spread spec-trum with block space-time code will provide a robust performance in dynamic wireless fading channels. 展开更多

This paper presents the dynamic time history analysis and response spectrum method of a concrete gravity dam by using STAAD-PRO. Here Finite Element Approach is used to analyze the dam. A concrete gravity dam model is prepared in STAAD-PRO to perform the time history analysis and response spectrum analysis and a comparison is done between both these methods. Concrete gravity dam is a large structure which retains a very large amount of water on its upstream side and it is very crucial for a dam to survive against vibrations of earthquake. In a self-encoded multiple access (SEMA) system, the number of users is not limited by the number of available sequences, unlike code division multiple access (CDMA) systems that employ PN codes such as m-, Gold or Kassami sequences. SEMA provides a convenient way of supporting multi-rate, multi-level grades of service in multimedia communications and prioritized heterogeneous networking systems. In this paper, we propose multiuser convolutional channel coding in SEMA that provides fewer cross-correlations among users and thereby reducing multiple access interference (MAI). We analyze SEMA multiuser convolutional coding in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels as well as fading channels. 随着现代探测技术持续增强,可见光、红外、雷达等联合探测技术被广泛应用,如何在多频段同时达成优异的隐身性能成为关键挑战。在此背景下,研究人员提出并验证了一种一体化兼容红外发射率空间可调与雷达散射截面(RCS)缩减的多功能柔性超... 随着现代探测技术持续增强,可见光、红外、雷达等联合探测技术被广泛应用,如何在多频段同时达成优异的隐身性能成为关键挑战。在此背景下,研究人员提出并验证了一种一体化兼容红外发射率空间可调与雷达散射截面(RCS)缩减的多功能柔性超表面,兼具红外伪装与雷达隐身等功能。其样品结构自下而上依次为气凝胶毡/ITO/Air/PET/ITO,功能层通过在PET上蚀刻ITO贴片单元形成编码超表面进行设计。该表面通过微波漫反射方式实现了RCS缩减,通过调控ITO占空比实现红外发射率的空间可调。仿真与实验结果表明:样品大约在6~12 GHz波段能有效抑制电磁波的后向散射,实现雷达隐身;红外发射率可调范围约为0.25~0.45,实现红外伪装;同时,样品具备良好的隔热能力与柔性特性,进一步拓展了应用范围,且一体化设计有助于减轻工程中的结构厚度与加工复杂度问题。综上所述,该超表面设计在多频谱兼容隐身和红外伪装领域具有良好的应用前景。 展开更多
