The network on chip(NoC)is used as a solution for the communication problems in a complex system on chip(SoC)design.To further enhance performances,the NoC architectures,a high level modeling and an evaluation method based on OPNET are proposed to analyze their performances on different injection rates and traffic patterns.Simulation results for general NoC in terms of the average latency and the throughput are analyzed and used as a guideline to make appropriate choices for a given application.Finally,a MPEG4 decoder is mapped on different NoC architectures.Results prove the effectiveness of the evaluation method. 展开更多

Structure and design are proposed for a kind of novel polymer Mach-Zehnder electro-optic(EO)switch using side-coupled M series-cascaded EO microrings.Formulations are proposed to analyze its switching characteristics.The dependences of the device’s performances on M are thoroughly analyzed and concluded.As the increase of M from 2 to 10,the switching voltages for the 9 devices are as low as 0.84 V,0.82 V,0.52 V,0.5 V,0.37 V,0.36 V,0.29 V,0.28 V and 0.24 V,respectively;whereas the crosstalks under bar state are within-20.79--6.53 d B and those under cross state are within-20.36--5.29 d B.The analysis results indicate that a smaller M is preferred for dropping the insertion loss and crosstalk,and a larger M should be selected to increase the optical bandwidth and minimize the switching energy.Generally,due to low switching voltage,the proposed device shows potential applications in optical networks-on-chip. 展开更多

In order to testify and examine the ability and correctness of an expert system for diagnosing the faults in the electrical power system of a certain kind of satellite, the authors have developed a simulated testbed according to the operational principle of the electrical power system. This paper takes the solar battery array as an instance to introduce the designing principle of its hardware circuits, and presents the methods to design the interface and the software program of the single-chip microprocessor system. The software scheme of the upper computer is introduced at the end of this paper. It has been proved that this simulated system could effectively achieve the complete functions coupled with the simple design by using of various mature techniques in the fields of electronic circuits, single-chip microprocessor and numerical emulation. 展开更多

Modified Multi-Resolution Telescopic Search Algorithm for Block-Matching Motion Estimation

This paper presents a modified multi-resolution telescopic search algorithm (MRTlcSA) for the block-matching motion estimation. A novel inverse telescopic search is substituted for the conventional telescopic search, that reduces the on-chip memory size and memory bandwidth for VLSI implementation. In addition, strategies of motion track and adaptive search window are applied to reduce the computational complexity of motion estimation. Simulation results show that, compared with the MRTleSA, the proposed algorithm reduces the computational load to only 30% while preserving almost the same image quality. Comparisons on hardware cost and power consumption of the VLSI implementations using the two algorithms are also presented in the paper. 展开更多

A real-time two-dimensional (2D) triangulation range finder is presented, which is composed of two linear complementary metal oxidation semiconductor (CMOS) chips, two camera lenses, and four light emitting diodes (LEDs). The high order distortion in image aberrations is the main factor responsible for the coarse errors. The theoretical prediction is in good agreement with experiments and the correction equation is used to obtain more reliable results with the unique distortion coefficient in tile whole working region. 展开更多
