Two reduced-complexity decoding algorithms for unitary space-time codes based on tree-structured constellation are presented. In this letter original unitary space-time constellation is divided into several groups. Each one is treated as the leaf nodes set of a subtree. Choosing the unitary signals that represent each group as the roots of these subtrees generates a tree-structured constellation. The proposed tree search decoder decides to which sub tree the receive signal belongs by searching in the set of subtree roots. The final decision is made after a local search in the leaf nodes set of the se-lected sub tree. The adjacent subtree joint decoder performs joint search in the selected sub tree and its “surrounding” subtrees,which improves the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of purely tree search method. The exhaustively search in the whole constellation is avoided in our proposed decoding al-gorithms,a lower complexity is obtained compared to that of Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding. Simulation results have also been provided to demonstrate the feasibility of these new methods. 展开更多

This paper presented a concatenated maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder for space-time/space-frequency block coded orthogonal frequency diversion multiplexing (ST/SFBC-OFDM) systems in double selective fading channels. The proposed decoder first detects space-time or space-frequency codeword elements separately. Then, according to the coarsely estimated codeword elements, the ML decoding is performed in a smaller constellation element set to searching final codeword. It is proved that the proposed decoder has optimal performances if and only if subchannels are constant during a codeword interval. The simulation results show that the performances of proposed decoder is close to that of the optimal ML decoder in severe Doppler and delay spread channels. However, the complexity of proposed decoder is much lower than that of the optimal ML decoder. 展开更多

Genetic algorithms offer very good performances for solving large optimization problems, especially in the domain of error-correcting codes. However, they have a major drawback related to the time complexity and memory occupation when running on a uniprocessor computer. This paper proposes a parallel decoder for linear block codes, using parallel genetic algorithms (PGA). The good performance and time complexity are confirmed by theoretical study and by simulations on BCH(63,30,14) codes over both AWGN and flat Rayleigh fading channels. The simulation results show that the coding gain between parallel and single genetic algorithm is about 0.7 dB at BER = 10﹣5 with only 4 processors. 展开更多

However VLC methods are very sensitive to channel noise. The goal of this paper is to salvage as many data from the damaged packets as possible for higher audiovisual quality. This paper proposes an integrated joint source-channel decoder (I-JSCD) at a symbol-level using three-dimensional (3-D) trellis representation for first-order Markov sources encoded with VLC source code and convolutional channel code. This method combines source code and channel code state-spaces and bit-lengths to construct a two-dimensional (2-D) state-space, and then develops a 3-D trellis and a maximum a-posterior (MAP) algorithm to estimate the source sequence symbol by symbol. Experiment results demonstrate that our method results in significant improvement in decoding performance, it can salvage at least half of (50%) data in any channel error rate, and can provide additional error resilience to VLC stream like image, audio, video stream over high error rate links. 展开更多

This paper proposes a closed-form joint space-time channel and Direction Of Arrival (DOA) blind estimation algorithm for space-thne coded Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems equipped with a Uniform Linear Array (ULA) at the base station in frequency-selective fading environments. The algorithm uses an ESPRIT-like method to separate multiple co-channel users with different impinging DOAs. As a result, the DOAs for multiple users are obtained. In particular, a set of signal subspaces, every one of which is spanned by the space-time vector channels of an individual user, are also obtained. From these signal subspaces, the space-time channels of multiple users are estimated using the subspace method. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity soft DF scheme based on polar codes, which features two key techniques: a low-complexity cyclic redundancy check(CRC) aided list successive cancellation(CALSC) decoder and a soft information calculation method. At the relay node, a low-complexity CALSC decoder is designed to reduce the computational complexity by adjusting the list size according to the reliabilities of decoded bits. Based on the path probability metric of the CALSC decoder, we propose a method to compute the soft information of the decoded bits in CALSC. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the soft DF based on low-density parity-check codes and the soft DF with belief propagation or soft cancellation decoder, especially in the case when the source-relay channel is at the high signal-to-ratio region. 展开更多

Due to the high complexity of the pairwise decoding algorithm and the poor performance of zero forcing( ZF) /minimum mean square error( MMSE) decoding algorithm, two low-complexity suboptimal decoding algorithms, called pairwisequasi-ZF and pairwise-quasi-MMSE decoders, are proposed. First,two transmit signals are detected by the quasi-ZF or the quasiMMSE algorithm at the receiver. Then, the two detected signals as the decoding results are substituted into the two pairwise decoding algorithm expressions to detect the other two transmit signals. The bit error rate( BER) performance of the proposed algorithms is compared with that of the current known decoding algorithms.Also, the number of calculations of ZF, MMSE, quasi-ZF and quasi-MMSE algorithms is compared with each other. Simulation results showthat the BER performance of the proposed algorithms is substantially improved in comparison to the quasi-ZF and quasiMMSE algorithms. The BER performance of the pairwise-quasiZF( pairwise-quasi-MMSE) decoder is equivalent to the pairwiseZF( pairwise-MMSE) decoder, while the computational complexity is significantly reduced. 展开更多

In this paper, a new kind of simple-encoding irregular systematic LDPC codes suitable for one-relay coded cooperation is designed, where the proposed joint iterative decoding is effectively performed in the destination which is in accordance with the corresponding joint Tanner graph characterizing two different component LDPC codes used by the source and relay in ideal and non-ideal relay cooperations. The theoretical analysis and simulations show that the coded cooperation scheme obviously outperforms the coded non-cooperation one under the same code rate and decoding complex. The significant performance improvement can be virtually credited to the additional mutual exchange of the extrinsic information resulted by the LDPC code employed by the source and its counterpart used by the relay in both ideal and non-ideal cooperations. 展开更多

The basic idea of our decoding algorithm is that source a priori information with the form of bit transition probabilities corresponding to the VLC tree can be derived directly from sub-state transitions in new composite-state represented super-trellis. A Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding algorithm for VLC sequence estimations based on the proposed super-trellis is also described. Simu-lation results show that the new iterative decoding scheme can obtain obvious encoding gain especially for Reversible Variable Length Codes (RVLCs),when compared with the classical separated turbo decoding and the previous joint decoding not considering source statistical characteristics. 展开更多

This paper presents a simple yet effective decoding for general quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes, which not only achieves high hardware utility efficiency (HUE), but also brings about great memory block reduction without any performance degradation. The main idea is to split the check matrix into several row blocks, then to perform the improved mes- sage passing computations sequentially block by block. As the decoding algorithm improves, the sequential tie between the two-phase computations is broken, so that the two-phase computations can be overlapped which bring in high HUE. Two over- lapping schemes are also presented, each of which suits a different situation. In addition, an efficient memory arrangement scheme is proposed to reduce the great memory block requirement of the LDPC decoder. As an example, for the 0.4 rate LDPC code selected from Chinese Digital TV Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB), our decoding saves over 80% memory blocks com- pared with the conventional decoding, and the decoder achieves 0.97 HUE. Finally, the 0.4 rate LDPC decoder is implemented on an FPGA device EP2S30 (speed grade -5). Using 8 row processing units, the decoder can achieve a maximum net throughput of 28.5 Mbps at 20 iterations. 展开更多

Multiple antenna wireless systems can provide larger channel capacity and enable spatial diversity to combat fading. In this paper we conduct an investigation into the design of coded space-time system obtained by serially concatenating channel code module and space-time code module with an interleaver in between. As an example, the system is constructed by employing low decoding complexity turbo-SPC (single parity check) code as outer module and linear complex field space-time code as inner module, which achieves full diversity and lossless equivalent channel capacity. Simulation results prove that our designed system performs well and it only loses 0.8 dB from multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) capacity at BER = 10^-5 in the case of information bit length 6048. Compared with turbo code-based systems, it also has lower error floor. 展开更多

We address the problem of adaptive modulation and coding scheme(AMCS) for a multi-input multioutput(MIMO) system in presence of time-varying transmitting correlation.Antenna subset selection and quasiorthogonal space-time block code(QOSTBC) have different error performances with different signal-to-noise ratios(SNRs) and in different spatial correlation scenarios.The error performance can be improved by selecting an appropriate transmission scheme to adapt to various channel conditions.The maximum distance criterion is the simplest and very effective algorithm for the antenna subset selection without needs of complex calculation and channel state information at transmitter(CSIT).The minimum error performance criteria and the simplified linear decision strategy are developed for constant transmission rate traffic to select the optimal transmission scheme.It can dramatically decrease algorithm complexity for obtaining error probability according to the known quantities comparing with using instant CSIT.Simulation results show that,remarkable performances including low SNR and weak spatial correlation at the expense of simple calculation and almost no bandwidth loss by adopting AMCS can be achieved.The proposed AMCS improves robustness of slowly varying spatial correlated channels. 展开更多

This letter mainly discusses the applicability of turbo codes in high-speed real-time channel through the study of a parallel turbo decoding algorithm based on 3GPP-proposed turbo encoder and interleaver in various channel. Simulation re-sult shows that, by choosing an appropriate sub-block length, the time delay can be obviously shortened with-out degrading the performance and increasing hardware complexity, and furthermore indicates the applicability of Turbo codes in high-speed real-time channel. 展开更多

After the pursuit of seventy years,the invention of polar codes indicates that we have found the first capacity-achieving coding with low complexity construction and decoding,which is the great breakthrough of the coding theory in the past two decades.In this survey,we retrospect the history of polar codes and summarize the advancement in the past ten years.First,the primary principle of channel polarization is investigated such that the basic construction,coding method and the classic successive cancellation(SC)decoding are reviewed.Second,in order to improve the performance of the finite code length,we introduce the guiding principle and conclude five design criteria for the construction,design and implementation of the polar code in the practical communication system based on the exemplar schemes in the literature.Especially,we explain the design principle behind the concatenated coding and rate matching of polar codes in 5G wireless system.Furthermore,the improved SC decoding algorithms,such as SC list(SCL)decoding and SC stack(SCS)decoding etc.,are investigated and compared.Finally,the research prospects of polar codes for the future 6G communication system are explored,including the optimization of short polar codes,coding construction in fading channels,polar coded modulation and HARQ,and the polar coded transmission,namely polar processing.Predictably,as a new coding methodology,polar codes will shine a light on communication theory and unveil a revolution in transmission technology. 展开更多

Neural network-based decoding for bias-tailored quantum codes over quantum channels with asymmetric noise

To improve the decoding performance of quantum error-correcting codes in asymmetric noise channels,a neural network-based decoding algorithm for bias-tailored quantum codes is proposed.The algorithm consists of a biased noise model,a neural belief propagation decoder,a convolutional optimization layer,and a multi-objective loss function.The biased noise model simulates asymmetric error generation,providing a training dataset for decoding.The neural network,leveraging dynamic weight learning and a multi-objective loss function,mitigates error degeneracy.Additionally,the convolutional optimization layer enhances early-stage convergence efficiency.Numerical results show that for bias-tailored quantum codes,our decoder performs much better than the belief propagation(BP)with ordered statistics decoding(BP+OSD).Our decoder achieves an order of magnitude improvement in the error suppression compared to higher-order BP+OSD.Furthermore,the decoding threshold of our decoder for surface codes reaches a high threshold of 20%. 展开更多

Spatially-coupled low-density parity-check(SC-LDPC)codes are prominent candidates for fu-ture communication standards due to their‘threshold saturation’properties.However,when facing burst erasures,the decoding process will stop and the decoding performances will dramatically de-grade.To improve the ability of burst erasure corrections,this paper proposes a two-dimensional SC-LDPC(2D-SC-LDPC)codes constructed by parallelly connecting two asymmetric SC-LDPC coupled chains for resistance to burst erasures.Density evolution algorithm is presented to evaluate the as-ymptotic performances against burst erasures,by which the maximum correctable burst erasure length can be computed.The analysis results show that the maximum correctable burst erasure lengths of the proposed 2D-SC-LDPC codes are much larger than the SC-LDPC codes and the asym-metric SC-LDPC codes.Finite-length performance simulation results of the 2D-SC-LDPC codes over the burst erasure channel confirm the excellent asymptotic performances. 展开更多
