Illusion Optics via Phase-Gradient Metasurfaces

Optical phase-gradient metasurfaces have garnered significant attention for enabling flexible light manipulation,with applications across diverse domains.In this work,we will demonstrate that the metasurfaces with phase gradient modulation can be used to achieve illusion optics,featuring the advantages of simple geometric structure and feasible implementation compared with the well-known transformation optics method.The underlying mechanism is the anomalous diffraction law caused by the phase gradient,which provides a theoretical basis for freely manipulating the propagation path of light.By considering a specific example,we will demonstrate that the phase gradient can transform spatial coordinates in real space into illusion space,thereby converting a plane in real space into a curved surface structure in illusion space to achieve the illusion effect.This approach provides a viable alternative to transformation optics for designing illusion devices. 展开更多

Feature extraction in the optical domain offers a promising low-latency,high-throughput solution.Optical diffraction-based feature extraction operating under a coherent light source can further achieve parallel outputs with low energy consumption.However,it presents significant challenges for maintaining the coherent input,scaling the operation rates beyond 10 GHz,and ensuring the effective extraction of functional configuration simultaneously.We propose an optical feature extraction engine(OFE^(2)),which is composed of a diffraction operator and a data preparation module,powering high-speed feature extraction for both image and temporal series tasks.This OFE^(2)can achieve a core latency of less than 250.5 ps;in addition,it can reach a throughput of 250 GOPS and an efficiency of 2.06 TOPS/W.Supported by the OFE^(2),a novel feature extraction paradigm is emerging,enabling high-speed,low-latency service access for applications in scene recognition,medical assistance,and digital finance. 展开更多

Surpassing the diffraction limit in long-range laser engineering via cross-scale vectorial optical field manipulation:perspectives and outlooks

We present a vectorial optical field(VOF) framework that surpasses the diffraction limit in both long-range imaging and energy delivery. By jointly engineering spatial and temporal dimensions, reflective Fourier ptychography is extended to 3.2 km with 0.37× the classical diffraction limit, while a single-photon Li DAR tomography system achieves centimeter-scale, sub-diffraction imaging at 3.3 km using superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors. These advances demonstrate super-resolution, turbulence-resilient imaging over kilometer-range distances. Beyond super-resolution optical, high power VOFs are able to counteract thermal blooming during atmospheric laser propagation, enhancing on-target power density by a factor larger than 2. Together, these results may outline a cross-scale paradigm that links highpower vector-field structuring, single-photon detection, and adaptive control-offering a pathway toward next-generation optical systems that integrate imaging, sensing, communication and directed energy within a common physical framework. 展开更多

采用有限元(PS)联合N-particle粒子仿真(GPT)对中国科学院物理研究所100 keV超快电子衍射装置进行三电极静电透镜(EL)聚焦仿真,通过研究不同构型静电透镜,提出三电极静电透镜设计建议。仿真显示,对于中间电极的中心孔,当初始脉冲半径0.... 采用有限元(PS)联合N-particle粒子仿真(GPT)对中国科学院物理研究所100 keV超快电子衍射装置进行三电极静电透镜(EL)聚焦仿真,通过研究不同构型静电透镜,提出三电极静电透镜设计建议。仿真显示,对于中间电极的中心孔,当初始脉冲半径0.1毫米时,缩小孔径可使电子脉冲聚焦至39微米及以下。厚度和孔径固定,孔其两侧边缘为椭圆倒角时,缩小平行轴B可使电子脉冲聚焦至49微米及以下;而圆形倒角缩小倒角半径可使电子脉冲聚焦至39微米。仿真发现,通常电极板厚度越薄,聚焦效果越好,然而孔边缘倒角半径1毫米时,存在最优厚度6毫米,此时电子脉冲可聚焦至38微米。电透镜的焦距与孔半径和孔深成正比,与椭圆倒角的平行轴B或圆形倒角的半径成正比。超快电子脉冲在电透镜下的聚焦行为与电子束流具有相似性。仿真结果对静电透镜在超快电子衍射(UED)中的应用具有促进作用,对超快电子脉冲光学、透射电子显微镜和扫描电子显微镜等领域也具有极强的实际应用价值。 展开更多

Optical temporal interference model for investigation and manipulation of non-integer high-order harmonic generation

High-precision optical frequency measurement serves as a cornerstone of modern science and technology,enabling advancements in fields ranging from fundamental physics to quantum information technologies.Obtaining precise photon frequencies,especially in the ultraviolet or even extreme ultraviolet regimes,is a key goal in both light–matter interaction experiments and engineering applications.High-order harmonic generation(HHG)is an ideal light source for producing such photons.In this work,we propose an optical temporal interference model(OTIM)that establishes an analogy with multi-slit Fraunhofer diffraction(MSFD)to manipulate fine-frequency photon generation by exploiting the temporal coherence of HHG processes.Our model provides a unified physical framework for three distinct non-integer HHG generation schemes:single-pulse,shaped-pulse,and laser pulse train approaches,which correspond to single-MSFD-like,double-MSFD-like,and multi-MSFD-like processes,respectively.Arbitrary non-integer HHG photons can be obtained using our scheme.Our approach provides a new perspective for accurately measuring and controlling photon frequencies in fields such as frequency comb technology,interferometry,and atomic clocks. 展开更多

In this paper, a novel method of a subwavelength binary simple periodic rectangular structure is presented to realize even beam splitting by combining the rigorous couple-wave analysis with the genetic algorithm. Several even splitters in the terahertz region were designed and one of the silicon-based beam splitters designed to separate one incident beam into four emergent beams has total efficiency up to 92.23 %. Zero-order diffraction efficiency was reduced to less than 0.192 % and the error of uniformity decreased to 6.51 9 10-6. These results break the limitation of even beam splitting based on the traditional scalar theory. In addition, the effects of the incident angle, wavelength, as well as the polarizing angle on the diffraction efficiency and uniformity were also investigated. 展开更多

Similar approach can also be applied to the collinear interaction. Calculation results indicate that the diffraction efficiency (DE) in magnitude is equal to the mode-conversion efficiency (MCE) under vertical bias magnetic field, but they differ greatly under inclined bias magnetic field. By comparison to the case of vertical magnetization, the DE or the MCE can be greatly increased under inclined magnetic field. The characteristic of the DE curves obtained is basically in agreement with the experimental result. 展开更多

The Raman–Nath diffraction in acousto–optic effect was studied theoretically and experimentally in the paper. Up to now, each order of diffracted light in Raman–Nath diffraction was still considered simply to be just frequency-shifted and to be a plane wave. However, we find that the phase and frequency shifts occur simultaneously and individually in Raman–Nath diffraction. The findings demonstrate that, in addition to the frequency shift, the optical phase of each order of diffracted light is also shifted by the sound wave and fluctuates with the sound wave and is related to the location in the acoustic field from which the diffracted light originates. As a result, the wavefront of each order of diffracted light is modulated to fluctuate spatially and temporally with the sound wave. Obviously, these findings are significant for applications of Raman–Nath diffraction in acousto–optic effect because the optical phase plays an important role in optical coherence technology. 展开更多

This review focuses on recent developments in additive manufacturing(AM)of precision optical devices,particularly devices consisting of components with critical features at the micro-and nanoscale.These include,but are not limited to,microlenses,diffractive optical elements,and photonic devices.However,optical devices with large-size lenses and mirrors are not specifically included as this technology has not demonstrated feasibilities in that category.The review is roughly divided into two slightly separated topics,the first on meso-and microoptics and the second on optics with nanoscale features.Although AM of precision optics is still in its infancy with many unanswered questions,the references cited on this exciting topic demonstrate an enabling technology with almost unlimited possibilities.There are many high quality reviews of AM processes of non-optical components,hence they are not the focus of this review.The main purpose of this review is to start a conversion on optical fabrication based on information about 3D AM methods that has been made available to date,with an ultimate long-term goal of establishing new optical manufacturing methods that are low cost and highly precise with extreme flexibility. 展开更多

The mineral was found to be g... The bauxite mineral obtained from Araku, Vishakapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, India is used in the present work. Structural characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The mineral was found to be gibbsite in phase. The transitional metal ions present were investigated using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption spectra. The EPR results suggest that Fe3+ has replaced Al3+ in the unit cell of bauxite. The optical absorption spectrum is due to Fe3+ which indicates that it is in distorted octahedral environment. The near-infrared (NIR) spectrum is due to water fundamentals and combination overtones, which confirm the formula of the compound. The impurities in the mineral are identified using spectroscopic techniques. 展开更多

Linking Diffractive and Geometrical Optics Surface Scattering at a Fundamental Level 被引量:1

Optical surface scattering analyses based on diffractive optics (DO) are typically applied to one surface;however, there is a need for simulating surface scattering losses for devices having many surface interactions such as light pipes. Light pipes are often simulated with geometric optics (GO) using ray tracing, where surface scattering is driven by the surface slope distribution. In the DO case, surface scattering analyses depend on the spatial frequency distribution and amplitude as well as wavelength, with the sinusoidal grating as a fundamental basis. A better understanding of the link, or transition, between DO and GO scattering domains would be helpful for efficiently incorporating scattering loss analyses into ray trace simulations. A formula for the root-mean-square (rms) scattered angle width of a sinusoidal reflection grating that depends only on the surface rms slope is derived from the nonparaxial scalar diffraction theory, thereby linking it to GO. The scatter angle’s mean and rms width are evaluated over a range of grating amplitudes and periods using scalar theory and full vector simulations from the COMSOL® wave optic module for a sinusoidal reflection grating. The conditions under which the diffraction-based solution closely approximates the GO solution, as predicted by the rms slope, are identified. Close agreement is shown between the DO and GO solutions for the same surface rms slope scattering loss due to angular filtering near the critical angle of a total internal reflection (TIR) glass-to-air interface. 展开更多

Laser beam measurement using point diffraction interferometer(PDI) is studied by modeling and the factors that influence the measurement accuracy are investigated.First,zernike polynomial is used to fit aberrated wavefront and the behavior of pinhole's diffraction with different aberrated wavefront is analysed.The following essential work on the PDI sensor is to get balance between intensity of the spherical reference wave and test wave.Then the optimum parameters for the model are obtained:wavelength of laser is 1 024 nm;pinhole's diameter is 2 μm;size of the focus spot is 20 μm;if gold(Au) is chosen as layer on film,its thickness should be 0.05 μm.The optimization results are only suited to the current PDI system,but the method presented is applicable to other configurations of high-accuracy PDI design. 展开更多

Based on a modified coupled wave theory of Kogelnik, we have studied the diffraction of an ultrashort pulsed beam with an arbitrary polarization state from a volume holographic grating in photorefractive LiNbO3 crystals. The results indicate that the diffracted intensity distributions in the spectral and temporal domains and the diffraction efficiency of the grating are both changed by the polarization state and spectral bandwidth of the input pulsed beam. A method is given of choosing the grating parameters and input conditions to obtain a large variation range of the spectral bandwidth of the diffracted pulsed beam with an appropriate diffraction efficiency. Our study presents a possibility of using a volume holographic grating recorded in anisotropic materials to shape a broadband ultrashort pulsed beam by modulating its polarization state. 展开更多

Using Nd:YAG second harmonic pulse (100 ps), the optical storage properties of two novel polyesters, poly [4'-bis (N, N-oxyethylene) imino-4-nitroazobenzene succinyl] and poly [2'-chloro-4'-bis (N, N-oxyethylene) imino-4-nitroazobenzene succinyl] have been studied by multiwave mixing. The high-order diffractions of the orientation gratings induced by anisotropy via the reorientation of nitroazobenzene groups and optical information storage with long-term stability have been realized by multiwave mixing in their films. Up to 3rd order forward diffraction was detected in two wave mixing, while up to 4th order backward diffraction was observed in degenerated four wave mixing. The recording mechanism was explained by the trans-cis-trans isomerization cycles of azobenzene groups. The isomerization of these azobenzene groups probably undergoes with inversion mechanism under the experimental conditions. The information recorded in these films has been kept for more than 6 months. 展开更多
