In this paper,a distributed adaptive dynamic programming(ADP)framework based on value iteration is proposed for multi-player differential games.In the game setting,players have no access to the information of others'system parameters or control laws.Each player adopts an on-policy value iteration algorithm as the basic learning framework.To deal with the incomplete information structure,players collect a period of system trajectory data to compensate for the lack of information.The policy updating step is implemented by a nonlinear optimization problem aiming to search for the proximal admissible policy.Theoretical analysis shows that by adopting proximal policy searching rules,the approximated policies can converge to a neighborhood of equilibrium policies.The efficacy of our method is illustrated by three examples,which also demonstrate that the proposed method can accelerate the learning process compared with the centralized learning framework. 展开更多

Calorific value is one of the most important properties of coal.Machine learning(ML)can be used in the prediction of calorific value to reduce experimental costs.China is one of the world’s largest coal production countries and coal occupies an important position in its national energy structure.However,ML models with a large database for the overall regions of China are still missing.Based on the extensive coal gasification practices in East China University of Science and Technology,we have built ML models with a large database for overall regions of China.An AutoML model was proposed and achieved a minimum MSE of 1.021.SHAP method was used to increase the model interpretability,and model validity was proved with literature data and additional in-house experiments.The model adaptability was discussed based on the databases of China and USA,showing that geography-specific ML models are essential.This study integrated a large coal database and AutoML method for accurate calorific value prediction and could offer key tools for Chinese coal industry. 展开更多

Agricultural production(especially intensive rice production)is a primary income source for over 2.0×10^(7) people in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta.However,adverse climate change impacts,socio-economic change,and high dependence on farm inputs for intensive production constrain the longer-term sustainability of rice systems.Government and agribusiness actors are encouraging more farmers to grow non-rice crops and supporting the upscaling of alternative crops to paddy rice.We used a qualitative approach to investigate the value chain characteristics,as well as constraints and opportunities of alternative crops via two case studies(baby corn and honeydew melon)in An Giang and Hau Giang provinces,Vietnam.Data collection involved focus group discussions with local farmers and interviews with farmers and industry experts.Thematic analysis was used to compile the findings,and the results were validated with local government staff.The baby corn value chain featured on-going and stable market demand(including value-addition)and better vertical coordination(e.g.,written contracts and financial support).The honeydew melon value chain featured positive relationships between farmers and traders despite less-developed vertical coordination.There are opportunities for value chain engagement through product quality certification,value-addition,and accessing high-value domestic and export markets.However,farmers require crop-specific and generic support from private and public sectors.Increased labour requirements and limited access to finance and credit limit value chain participation.Upscaling and marketing alternative crops can enhance farmer profitability and support non-farming agricultural business establishment,economic growth,and community development.Efficient value chains will be critical to ensure the adoption of alternative crops and development of crop-specific agribusiness models.These findings can inform policy-makers and change facilitators in designing targeted interventions to support the adoption of alternative crops in the study area as well as in Vietnam and globally. 展开更多

Classification of Selfish and Regular Nodes Based on Reputation Values in MANET Using Adaptive Decision Boundary

A MANET is a cooperative network in which each node has dual responsibilities of forwarding and routing thus node strength is a major factor because a lesser number of nodes reduces network performance. The existing reputation based methods have limitation due to their stricter punishment strategy because they isolate nodes from network participation having lesser reputation value and thus reduce the total strength of nodes in a network. In this paper we have proposed a mathematical model for the classification of nodes in MANETs using adaptive decision boundary. This model classifies nodes in two classes: selfish and regular node as well as it assigns the grade to individual nodes. The grade is computed by counting how many passes are required to classify a node and it is used to define the punishment strategy as well as enhances the reputation definition of traditional reputation based mechanisms. Our work provides the extent of noncooperation that a network can allow depending on the current strength of nodes for the given scenario and thus includes selfish nodes in network participation with warning messages. We have taken a leader node for reputation calculation and classification which saves energy of other nodes as energy is a major challenge of MANET. The leader node finally sends the warning message to low grade nodes and broadcasts the classification list in the MANET that is considered in the routing activity. 展开更多

Different people will exhibit different characteristics, and hence determining the characteristic points of the pulse wave of human physiological health makes sense. It is common that we extract the characteristic value of pulse wave signal with the method based on wavelet transform on a small scale, and then determine the locations of the characteristic points by modulus maxima and modulus minima. Before determining characteristic value by detecting modulus maxima and modulus minima, we need to determine every period of the pulse wave. This paper presents a new kind of adaptive threshold determination method which is more effective. It can accurately determine every period of the pulse wave, and then extract characteristic values by modulus maxima and modulus minima in every period of the pulse wave. Integrating value-chain approach with participatory multicriteria analysis for sustainable planning of a niche crop in Indian Himalayas

The value-chain approach(VCA)was used for exploring how a niche crop,namely large cardamom(Amomum subulatum Roxb.),can be developed sustainably to increase incomes and enhance rural livelihoods in the mountains.Large cardamom is a high-value,agro-climatically suitable,and non-perishable spice crop grown in the Himalayan region.Originating in Sikkim,the crop is important to the local economy and is sold in both domestic and international markets;however,its production in India has been declining significantly in recent years.Using VCA and participatory methods of data collection the study helped elicit value chain actors’perspectives on various reasons for the decline as well as potential strategies to improve the cardamom value chain.The results present the multiple environmental and climatic(e.g.water stress),social(e.g.women participation)and institutional(e.g.lack of trust between actors)challenges and corresponding upgrading strategies.Through participatory multi-criteria analysis(MCA),the strategies were prioritized based on the overall preferences of multiple stakeholders.The analysis considered eight criteria and 25 options,or strategies,and found that that marketability and profitability were the most important criteria,and increasing cardamom production,the most important optiontrait.Stakeholder discussions along with sensitivity analysis also showed how these options could be implemented and revealed how criteria preferences can change with expert inputs.This combination of VCA and MCA,because it supports participatory decision-making and balances multiple dimensions of sustainable development,can be effectively deployed in planning for agricultural development in the mountains. 展开更多

This paper examines, as a case study, Japanese media production, remaking, and transferences of media content derived from the manga Janguru Taitei (Jungle Emperor) and contemporary Japanese government strategies to protect and promote Japanese cultural and economic value within the content business. The study utilizes methodological triangulation inclusive of textual, document, and value chain analysis. The Japanese government has progressively appreciated the intrinsic value of the media content from both a commercial and cultural context and the loss of value in unregulated segments of the regional market. In 2003, they established an Intellectual Property Strategy Group to support and promote the Japanese media content business. There has been a continuum of policy development since then to protect and amplify the financial value of Japanese media products. All of the developments in media industry are fuelled not only by government regulations, the imagination of talented artists and writers, and the growing regionalization and internationalization of the industry but also the "bottom line" emerging from the value chain. The recognition of the need for sustaining profit growth to continue the viability of original and remade content in Japan is paramount for Japan. 展开更多

Methods A mathematical model was constructed and a transfer function of the adaptive system for noise control was also worked out; moreover, the effects of some algorithms such as RLS,LMS and LSL on noise control were analyzed and compared. Results Without the feedback of sound, the mean noise reduce value(MNRV) of 27 5 dB for broadband noise from 0 to 500?Hz in frequency were achieved. When acoustic feedback took place and an air stream loudspeaker was used, the MNRV was only about 4 9?dB. But if the loudspeaker had a plain frequency feature, MNRV was improved by 10 2?dB. Conclusion The technique is applied to ruducing the noise from engines' exhausted gas pipes. It is, in principle, used for noise cancelling in a closed three dimensional space. 展开更多

We propose a polygonal finite volume element method based on the mean value coordinates for anisotropic diffusion problems on star-shaped polygonalmeshes.Because the convex cells with hanging nodes are always star-shaped,the computation on themis no longer a problem.Naturally,we apply this advantage of the new polygonal finite volume element method to construct an adaptive polygonal finite volume element algorithm.Moreover,we introduce two refinement strategies,called quadtreebased refinement strategy and polytree-based refinement strategy respectively,and they all have great performance in our numerical tests.The new adaptive algorithm allows the use of hanging nodes,and the number of hanging nodes on each edge is unrestricted in general.Finally,several numerical examples are provided to show the convergence and efficiency of the proposedmethod on various polygonal meshes.The numerical results also show that the newadaptive algorithmnot only reduces the computational cost and the implementation complexity in mesh refinement,but also ensures the accuracy and convergence. 展开更多

The core task of tracking control is to make the controlled plant track a desired trajectory.The traditional performance index used in previous studies cannot eliminate completely the tracking error as the number of time steps increases.In this paper,a new cost function is introduced to develop the value-iteration-based adaptive critic framework to solve the tracking control problem.Unlike the regulator problem,the iterative value function of tracking control problem cannot be regarded as a Lyapunov function.A novel stability analysis method is developed to guarantee that the tracking error converges to zero.The discounted iterative scheme under the new cost function for the special case of linear systems is elaborated.Finally,the tracking performance of the present scheme is demonstrated by numerical results and compared with those of the traditional approaches. 展开更多

First, a novel finite-horizon Policy Iteration (PI) method for linear time-varying discrete-time systems is presented. Its connections with existing in finite-horizon PI methods are discussed. Then, both data-drive n off-policy PI and Value Iteration (VI) algorithms are derived to find approximate optimal controllers when the system dynamics is completely unknown. Under mild conditions, the proposed data-driven off-policy algorithms converge to the optimal solution. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the developed methods are validated by a practical example of spacecraft attitude control. 展开更多

In order to address the output feedback issue for linear discrete-time systems, this work suggests a brand-new adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) technique based on the internal model principle(IMP). The proposed method, termed as IMP-ADP, does not require complete state feedback-merely the measurement of input and output data. More specifically, based on the IMP, the output control problem can first be converted into a stabilization problem. We then design an observer to reproduce the full state of the system by measuring the inputs and outputs. Moreover, this technique includes both a policy iteration algorithm and a value iteration algorithm to determine the optimal feedback gain without using a dynamic system model. It is important that with this concept one does not need to solve the regulator equation. Finally, this control method was tested on an inverter system of grid-connected LCLs to demonstrate that the proposed method provides the desired performance in terms of both tracking and disturbance rejection. 展开更多

Of all the algorithms, the ge- netic algorithm is an alternative to conventional approaches to find the solution of the bilevel linear programming. In this paper, we describe an adaptive genetic algorithm for solving the bilevel linear programming problem to overcome the difficulty of determining the probabilities of crossover and mutation. In addition, some techniques are adopted not only to deal with the difficulty that most of the chromosomes maybe infeasible in solving constrained optimization problem with genetic algorithm but also to improve the efficiency of the algorithm. On Adaptability of Guiyan 2 in Southwestern Guizhou Tobacco-growing Areas

In order to identify and check the adaptability of new flue-cured tobacco variety of Guiyan 2 to soil, cultivation and curing conditions and its utility value in production in Qianxinan Prefecture ecological areas, a comparative trail with the leading cultivar Yunyan 97 as the control(CK) was made according to the regulations of local characteristic and high-quality tobacco production. The experimental results showed that Guiyan 2 had moderate growth duration after transplant, strong field growing power, good uniformity and good agronomic traits; moreover, its yield,production value and rate of first-class tobacco were respectively higher than these of CK by 349.2 kg/hm^2, 4746.3 yuan/hm^2 and 6%, while its average price and grade index were respectively lower than these of CK by 1.13 yuan/kg and 0.06;Guiyan 2 also had the advantages of appropriate intrinsic chemical component content and proportion, as well as better curing characteristics, and it got generally better evaluation from tobacco growers, indicating that Guiyan 2 had a better potential to generalize. 展开更多
