It explores how AI technologies are reshaping teaching, learning, and administration, emphasizing a balance between technological efficiency and humanistic educational values. Design/methodology/approach-Using a qualitative case study design, the research draws on interviews with educators, administrators, and policymakers, complemented by document analysis of institutional policies and national AI frameworks. The analysis was guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework and Digital Humanities principles to ensure both pedagogical and ethical considerations. Findings-The study highlights that AI enhances adaptive learning, automates administrative processes, and supports personalized instruction. However, implementation remains uneven due to limited teacher training, infrastructural disparities, and ethical challenges related to data privacy and algorithmic bias. The study proposes a Humanistic AI Framework integrating pedagogical, administrative, and ethical dimensions to promote equitable and sustainable adoption. Practical implications-The framework offers a roadmap for Turkish institutions to implement AI strategically, focusing on teacher professional development, policy formulation, and equitable access. It also underlines the need for ethical safeguards to preserve human agency in education. Originality/value-By situating AI adoption within the Turkish higher education context, this study contributes original insights into the intersection of AI, pedagogy, and administration. It bridges the theoretical constructs of TPACK and Digital Humanities, proposing a culturally responsive model for AI integration in multilingual and multicultural academic settings.展开更多

METHODS: Patients undergoing elective colonoscopy between October 2005 and February 2006 were randomized into either listening to music (Group 1, n = 30) or not listening to music (Group 2, n = 30). Anxiolytic and analgesic drugs (intravenous midazolam and meperidine) were given according to the patients' demand. Administered medications were monitored. We determined their levels of anxiety using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Test form. Patients' satisfaction, pain, and willingness to undergo a repeated procedure were self-assessed using a visual analog scale. RESULTS: The mean dose of sedative and analgesic drugs used in group 1 (midazolam: 2.1 ± 1.4, meperidine: 18.1 ± 11.7) was smaller than group 2 (midazolam: 2.4 ± 1.0, meperidine: 20.6 ± 11.5), but without a significant difference (P 〉 0.05). The mean anxiety level in group 1 was lower than group 2 (36.7 ± 2.2 vs 251.0 ± 1.9, P 〈 0.001). The mean satisfaction score was higher in group 1 compared to group 2 (87.8 ± 3.1 vs 58.1 ± 3.4, P 〈 0.001). The mean pain score in group i was lower than group 2 (74.1 ± 4.7 vs 39.0 ± 3.9, P 〈 0.001). CONCLUSION: Listening to music during colonoscopy helps reduce the dose of sedative medications, as well as patients' anxiety, pain, dissatisfaction during the procedure. Therefore, we believe that listening to music can play an adjunctive role to sedation in colonoscopy. It is a simple, inexpensive way to improve patients' comfort during the procedure.展开更多

An index ≥ 60 indicated the presence of FLD. In Cox regression models, adjusted for age, smoking status, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure, we assessed the predictive value of FLI for incident diabetes, coronary heart disease(CHD), and all-cause mortality.RESULTS: At a mean 8 year follow-up, 218 and 285 incident cases of diabetes and CHD, respectively, and 193 deaths were recorded. FLD was significantly associated in each gender with blood pressure, total cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, uric acid, and C-reactive protein; weakly with fasting glucose; and inversely with high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and sex hormonebinding globulin. In adjusted Cox models, FLD was(with a 5-fold HR) the major determinant of diabetes development. Analyses further disclosed significant independent prediction of CHD by FLD in combined gender [hazard ratio(HR) = 1.72, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.17-2.53] and men(HR = 2.35, 95%CI: 1.25-4.43). Similarly-adjusted models for all-cause mortality proved, however, not to confer risk, except for a tendency in prediabetics and diabetic women.CONCLUSION: A surrogate of FLD conferred significant high risk of diabetes and coronary heart disease, independent of some metabolic syndrome traits. Allcause mortality was not associated with FLD, except likely in the prediabetic state. Such a FLI may reliably be used in epidemiologic studies.展开更多

The results indicated that increases in volatile compounds (acetaldehyde, 2-butanone, 2-nanonane, ethyl acetate), titratable acidity, ash and fat contents inversely correlated with the overall acceptability score of the yoghurt. However, diacetyl, C4 to C12 free fatty acids, pH, whiteness index and texture positively correlated with overall acceptability of the yoghurt products. It was concluded that the acceptability of the Turkish set-type yoghurts is mainly governed by the fifteen volatile compounds as well as the physico-chemical properties determined. Thus, the overall acceptability of the yoghurts was not influenced by a single characteristic, but rather by complex in nature.展开更多

The results showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05, 0.01, or 0.001) and variations in physico-chemical indices, volatile aroma compounds and volatile free fatty acid profiles among the yoghurt brands, which ultimately influence the flavor quality of the product. Acetaldehyde was predominant volatile compound in yoghurts, which followed by acetone, acetoin, diacetyl and ethanol. The level of diacetly was inversely related to titratable acidity, acetaldehyde and ethanoic acid. From ketones with high carbones 2-undecanone and 2-pentadecanone were higher than 2-butanone, 2-nanonane and 2-tridecanone. These ketones are related to fat content of yoghurt. Among short chain free fatty acids, ethanoic (acetic) acid was the most abundant in yoghurts, followed by hexanoic, octanoic and butanoic acids. These differences in detected chemical compositions of volatile compounds and free fatty acids would be applicable to predict flavor, nutritional value, quality control or shelf-life of the commmercial set-type Turkish yoghurts.展开更多

Traditional replication and experiment-based handcrafting methods are predominant in the production of Turkish Folk Music wind instruments. The instrument manufacturing and standardization approaches, which include the relevant rules of physics and engineering practices, are limited purely to prototype studies for scientific research purposes. It is almost impossible to find studies on Turkish Folk Music wind instrument design and production involving computer aided design and engineering applications. In this study, an example Turkish woodwind instrument, the Turkish Treble Recorder (dilli kaval) is considered, and the air flow behaviour and acoustic (sound) power magnitudes that occur at different air flow rates are simulated in a computer environment using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation technique. In the study, numerical and visual outputs related to air behaviour at different air flow rates that may be used in the instrument manufacturing phases were obtained. Acoustic power level was also measured experimentally. Simulation outputs (the acoustic power level) were compared to experimental results in order to validate the simulation results. The comparison revealed that the highest relative difference was calculated as 13.32(%). This value indicated that the simulation results were reasonably consistent with the results of the experimental measurement. Additionally, this study was constructed as a case study that may provide reference for future research studies in this field.展开更多

Such a FLI may reliably be used in epidemiologic studies.
文摘In comparison to onshore facilities, ships, and their machinery are subjected to challenging external influences such as rolling, vibration, and continually changing air&cooling water temperatures in the marine environment. However, these factors are typically neglected,or their consequences are deemed to have little effect on machinery, the environment,or human life.In this study, seasonal air&seawater temperature effects on marine diesel engine performance parameters and emissions are investigated by using a full-mission engine room simulator.A tanker ship two-stroke main engine MAN B&W 6S50 MC-C with a power output of 8600 kW is employed during the simulation process.Furthermore, due to its diverse risks, the Marmara Region is chosen as the application area for real-time average temperature data.Based on the research findings, even minor variations in seasonal temperatures have a significant influence on certain key parameters of a ship’s main engine including scavenge pressure, exhaust temperatures, compression and combustion pressures, fuel consumption, power, and NOx-SOx-COx emissions. For instance, during the winter season, the cylinder compression pressure(pc)is recorded at 94 bar, while the maximum pressure(pz)reaches 110 bar.In the summer,pc experiences a decrease of 81 bar, while pz is measured at 101 bar.The emission of nitrogen oxides(NOx)exhibits a measurement of 784 parts per million(ppm)during winter and 744 in summer. The concentration of sulfur oxides(SOx)is recorded at 46 ppm in winter and 53 in summer.Given the current state of global warming and climate change,it is an undeniable fact that the impact of these phenomena will inevitably escalate.
文摘AIM:To adapt the low vision-related quality of life(LVQOL) instrument into Turkish language and to assess its validity and reliability.METHODS:The study was conducted in 387 patients attending the Centre of Low Vision Rehabilitation,Faculty of Medicine,Ankara University. For statistical analyses, the Spearman's correlation coefficient,Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) were used.RESULTS:According to results of CFA,the item in the 'Adjustment' subscale because of having the factor loading below 0.40,was excluded from the questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed according to Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The reliability of the 'Distance Vision,Mobility, and Lighting' subscale was ?琢=0.863;of the 'Adjustment' subscale was ?琢=0.694;'Reading and Fine Work' was ?琢=0.791,and 'Activities of Daily Living' was ?琢= 0.770.So these results indicate that the questionnaire is reliable to measure the vision related quality of life of low-vision patients. The correlations between the subscales were also analyzed, and the correlation between 'Adjustment' and 'Reading and Fine Work' was found to be the lowest(rs=0.336,P <0.001),whereas the strongest correlation was found between the 'Reading and Fine Work',and 'Activities of Daily Living'.Additionally, the 'Adjustment' dimension showed the strongest correlation with only 'Distance Vision,Mobility, and Lighting' dimension.CONCLUSION:After removing the last item in the second dimension, the Turkish adaptation of all dimensions of the LVQOL has been shown to be reliable, valid and suitable for use in patients with low vision in Turkey.
文摘Sensory properties and physico-chemical parameters of 10 most popular brands of commercial set-type Turkish yoghurts were evaluated and correlation coefficients between the two indices were investigated. Thus, the overall acceptability of the yoghurts was not influenced by a single characteristic, but rather by complex in nature.
文摘Ten most popular brands of commercial Turkish set-type yoghurts were collected from local retail outlets in Hatay, Turkey for two separate periods, and analyzed for basic nutrients, physico-chemical properties, volatile aroma compounds and free fatty acid profiles to compare their differences among the yoghurt products. These differences in detected chemical compositions of volatile compounds and free fatty acids would be applicable to predict flavor, nutritional value, quality control or shelf-life of the commmercial set-type Turkish yoghurts.

文摘In this study, the vertical components of broadband teleseismic P wave data recorded by China Earthquake Network are used to image the rupture processes of the February 6th,2023 Turkish earthquake doublet via back projection analysis.Data in two frequency bands(0.5-2 Hz and 1-3 Hz)are used in the imaging processes. The results show that the rupture of the first event extends about 200 km to the northeast and about 150 km to the southwest,lasting~90 s in total. The southwestern rupture is triggered by the northeastern rupture, demonstrating a sequential bidirectional unilateral rupture pattern. The rupture of the second event extends approximately 80 km in both northeast and west directions,lasting~35 s in total and demonstrates a typical bilateral rupture feature. The cascading ruptures on both sides also reflect the occurrence of selective rupture behaviors on bifurcated faults. In addition,we observe super-shear ruptures on certain fault sections with relatively straight fault structures and sparse aftershocks.
文摘In musical instruments, the geometric design and material features of the instrument are the most important factors that determine the sound characteristics of the instrument. Additionally, this study was constructed as a case study that may provide reference for future research studies in this field.
文摘In the Turkish Economy, there were radical changes in the structure of the economy with the policies of opening up to the outside world and transition to a free market economy in the 1980s,and the last step of this opening up and liberalization process was realized with the decision number 32 in 1989.We can say that with the liberalization of capital movements in the 1990s,economic growth and development were tried to be achieved through hot money inflows rather than direct foreign investments. This trend made the economy more open to crises, and for the first time,a crisis occurred in the form of the 1994 economic crisis, which was understood to be caused by hot money. The same economic structure experienced a financial and economic crisis caused by hot money again in November 2000 and February 2001.While the crisis was overcome with the stand-by agreement made with the IMF(International Monetary Fund)and the announced Transition to a Strong Economy program, the economy started to grow rapidly with the ease of using foreign resources, and political stability seems to have enabled this economic growth process to continue uninterruptedly except 2009.There was also a decrease in inflation rates. The same economic structure continued in the period between 2010 and 2020,and the financing need of economic growth was met by outsourcing. However, this process was different from the previous decade and there was no economic and financial crisis other than the sudden increase in exchange rates in 2018.We can say that the sudden exchange rate increase in 2018 was perceived as a harbinger of possible exchange rate shocks in the following years.

文摘Turkish red pine is an important forest tree species because of its role in the ecosystem whose range includes many countries in the eastern Mediterranean basin. In addition, red pine is a preferred forest tree species due to rapid growth, usage in afforestation in arid areas and the production of non-wood forest products such as resin. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between the productivity of red pine and ecosystem in the lower and middle belt of the Taurus Mountains, and to determine the interrelations between the productivity of red pine and ecosystem.Multivariate analyses(multiple regression analysis and artificial neural networks)were used to model the efficiency(biomass production)of red pine. From the multivariate analyses,a productivity model of the species was created with the slope, soil depth, and precipitation in the driest variables.A significant correlation was found between site index and site factors in the driest quarter. These variables had a statistically significant relationship with the site index in the multiple regression analysis. The forecast power of the model was 0.33.Of the methods used, the artificial neural network consisting of 2 L10 N(2 Layers 10 Neurons)had the highest margin of explanation(R^(2)=0.71)and the lowest margin of error. This model has the potential to open land aimed for afforestation studies with red pine in forestry areas. The results will shed light on afforestation studies to be carried out in the Western Mediterranean region and in similar ecosystems.
文摘Dravet syndrome is a rare epileptic encephalopathy characterized by frequent seizures beginning in the first year of life and behavioral disorders. Mutations in the sodium channel α1 subunit gene are the main cause of this disease. We report two patients with refractory seizures and psychomotor retardation in whom the final diagnosis was Dravet syndrome with confirmed mutations in the sodium channel α1 subunit gene. The mutation identified in the second patient was a novel frame shift mutation, which resulted from the deletion of five nucleotides in exon 24.
