We investigate the three-dimensional (3D) scattering problem of an incident plane shear horizontal wave by a partly through-thickness hole in an isotropic plate, in which the Lamb wave modes are also included due to the mode conversions by the scattering obstacle in the 3D problem. An analytical model is presented such that the wave fields are expanded in all of propagating and evanescent SH modes and Lamb modes, and the scattered far-fields of three fundamental guided wave modes are analyzed numerically for different sizes of the holes and frequencies. The numerical results are verified by comparing with those obtained by using the approximate Poisson/Mindlin plate model for small hole radius and low frequency. It is also found that the scattering patterns are different from those of the SO wave incidence. Our work is useful for quantitative evaluation of the plate-like structure by ultrasonic guided waves. 展开更多

The indirect boundary element method (IBEM) is used to study three-dimensional scattering of obliquely incident plane SH waves by an alluvial valley embedded in a layered half-space. The free-field response of the layered half-space is calculated by the direct stiffness method, and dynamic Green's functions of moving distributed loads acting on inclined lines in a layered half-space are calculated to simulate the scattering wave field. The presented method yields very accurate results since the three-dimensional dynamic stiffness matrix is exact and the moving distributed loads can act directly on the valley boundary without singularity. Numerical results and analyses are performed for amplification of obliquely incident plane SH waves around an alluvial valley in a uniform half-space and in single layer over half-space. The results show that the three-dimensional responses are distinctly different from the two-dimensional responses, and the displacement amplitudes around alluvial valleys in a uniform haft-space are obviously different from those in a layered half-space. 展开更多

A method and procedure is presented to reconstruct three-dimensional(3D) positions of scattering centers from multiple synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images. Firstly, two-dimensional(2D) attribute scattering centers of targets are extracted from 2D SAR images. Secondly, similarity measure is developed based on 2D attributed scatter centers' location, type, and radargrammetry principle between multiple SAR images. By this similarity, we can associate 2D scatter centers and then obtain candidate 3D scattering centers. Thirdly, these candidate scattering centers are clustered in 3D space to reconstruct final 3D positions. Compared with presented methods, the proposed method has a capability of describing distributed scattering center, reduces false and missing 3D scattering centers, and has fewer restrictionson modeling data. Finally, results of experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

This work deals with an inverse scattering problem for the Schrodinger operator on a star-shaped graph with one semi-infinite branch.Using the high-frequency asymptotic behaviour of the reflection coefficient, first we provide the identifiability of the geometry of this star-shaped graph:the number of edges and their lengths.Under some assumptions on the geometry of the graph, the main result states that the measurement of one reflection coefficient, together with the scattering data corresponding to the infinite branch, associated with Robin boundary conditions at the external nodes of the graph, can uniquely determine the parameters of the boundary conditions and the potentials on the whole interval which is already known in a half-interval. 展开更多

By employing a full quantum theory of electron-photon scattering in intense laser fields,we calculate the angularresolved radiation rate of the fundamental wave in Thomson scattering. We investigate the dependence of radiation rate on Euler angles and elucidate the underlying physical mechanism. The figure-8 profile of the radiation rate within the polarization plane is validated, while its evolution with respect to laser intensity and electron momentum is illustrated. Our findings reveal that in lower-intensity laser fields and for slow electron motion, the angular-resolved radiation rate exhibits distinct dipole emission characteristics. However, significant changes are observed at high laser intensities and/or large electron momenta, leading to pronounced alterations in the angular-resolved radiation rate.Remarkably similar variation patterns can be achieved by proportionally adjusting both laser intensity and electron momentum. 展开更多

Aerial surveys are dynamic and continuous processes, and there are different height distributions of the ground in the measurement area, which leads to problems such as overlapping measurement areas and inaccurate altitude correction during the survey process.Commonly used terrain correction methods are based on the concept of finite elementization of ground surface radioactive sources, using GPS coordinates, radar altitude, and ground elevation distribution information from aerial surveys, combined with the sourceless efficiency calibration method to construct a response matrix, which is then inverted for surface nuclide content. However, most of the sourceless efficiency calibration methods used are numerical calculations that consider the body detector as a point detector and do not consider the changes in intrinsic detection efficiency under different incident directions of gamma rays. Therefore, when the altitude of the measurement area varies significantly or the flight altitude of the aerial survey is relatively low, such sourceless efficiency calibration method calculations tend to have a large bias, which affects the accuracy of the terrain correction. To address the above problems, this study employs a novel sourceless efficiency calibration method based on the Boolean operation of the ray deposition process and simplifies the traditional body source measurement model to a surface source measurement model to achieve fast and accurate efficiency calibration. Then, through the discretization of the measurement process, the static measurement process is superposed as equivalent to the dynamic measurement process, and the dynamic measurement response matrix is built and optimized based on the calibration method. Finally, the PSO-MLEM algorithm was used to solve the dynamic measurement response matrix to achieve dynamic terrain correction of aerial survey data.Analysis of the Baiyun'ebo test area revealed that, after applying dynamic terrain correction, the inverted anomalies in uranium(eU),thorium(eTh),and potassium(K)concentrations were closer to ground measurements(within 5.72%-30.79%)and exhibited clearer anomaly boundaries compared to traditional height-based corrections. However, owing to the inherent statistical fluctuations and characteristics of matrix inversion, higher measurement values tend to absorb lower ones, potentially enlarging the anomalous regions.Nevertheless, the highanomaly regions after inversion largely coincided with the ground truth validation, demonstrating that the proposed method can effectively correct airborne gamma spectrometry data. 展开更多

Muon scattering tomography(MST) is a powerful noninvasive imaging technique with significant applications in nuclear material detection and security screening.Traditional MST usually relies on the point of closest approach(PoCA) algorithm to reconstruct images from muon scattering data;however,PoCA often suffers from suboptimal image clarity and resolution. To overcome these challenges,we propose a novel approach that leverages reinforcement learning(RL) to enhance MST reconstruction, termed the μRL-enhanced method.By framing the MST optimization task as an RL problem,we developed an intelligent agent capable of dynamically adjusting the key PoCA parameters. The agent is trained using a multi-objective reward function that guides the optimization toward higher-quality reconstructions. Our experimental results show that theμRL-enhanced method significantly outperforms the traditional PoCA baseline acros s multiple benchmark metrics.Specifically, the proposed approach on average attains a 307% improvement in the intersection over union(IoU),a 79% increase in the structural similarity index measure(SSIM),and a 8.4% enhancement in the peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) across four experiments.Furthermore, when benchmarked against the maximum likelihood scattering and displacement(MLSD)algorithm, the μRL-enhanced method offers modest gains in PS NR and IoU,together with a one-third increase in SSIM.These improvements demonstrate the enhanced reconstruction accuracy and structural fidelity of the μRL-enhanced method, highlighting its potential to advance MST technologies and their applications. 展开更多

In complex media scattering, multiple scattering severely degrades the optical wavefront and results in blurred images, while the spectral distortion caused by the scattering effect leads to severe color distortion.Achieving color high-resolution imaging through scattering media remains a significant challenge. Here,we propose a broadband,polarization-based method for color high-resolution imaging through scattering media. This approach enables high-resolution reconstruction by effectively separating the speckle illumination pattern from the mixed-scattering field information, leveraging polarization common-mode characteristics.Concurrently,it incorporates chromatic balance compensation to correct spectral aliasing in the scattered light field, enabling color high-resolution imaging through complex scattering media. To further optimize color distortion caused by scattering,a compensation strategy combining color constancy and white balance theory is adopted.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly enhances both spatial resolution and color fidelity across various scattering conditions and target materials, showcasing strong adaptability and robustness. This approach provides an effective solution for achieving high-resolution color optical imaging in complex scattering environments. 展开更多

Deep learning methods have achieved significant progress in solving partial differential equations. However, when applied to the widely used anisotropic scattering neutron transport equations in reactor engineering, these encounter significant challenges. To address this issue, this study introduces a multi-antiderivative transformation alternating iterative deep learning method(M-AIM).This method transforms the integral terms of the scattering and fission sources in the transport equation into multiple antiderivative functions corresponding to the integrand, converts the differential-integral form of the transport equation into an exact differential equation, and establishes the necessary constraints for a unique solution. The M-AIM uses multiple deep neural networks to map the unknown angular flux density of transport equations and represents various forms of antiderivative functions. It constructs the corresponding weighted loss functions.By alternating iterative training with deep learning methods applied to these neural networks, the loss is reduced gradually. When the loss decreases to a preset minimum, the neural network approaches a numerical solution for both angular flux density and antiderivative functions. This paper presents a numerical verification of geometries such as flat plates and spheres. It verifies the validity of the theoretical framework and associated methods. The study contributes to the development of novel technical approaches for applying deep learning to solve anisotropic scattering neutron transport equations in reactor engineering. 展开更多

Small angle x-ray scattering(SAXS)is an advanced technique for characterizing the particle size distribution(PSD)of nanoparticles. However, the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in SAXS data analysis often reduces the accuracy of conventional methods. This article proposes a user-friendly software for PSD analysis,GranuSAS,which employs an algorithm that integrates truncated singular value decomposition(TSVD)with the Chahine method. This approach employs TSVD for data preprocessing, generating a set of initial solutions with noise suppression.A high-quality initial solution is subsequently selected via the L-curve method. This selected candidate solution is then iteratively refined by the Chahine algorithm, enforcing constraints such as non-negativity and improving physical interpretability. Most importantly,GranuSAS employs a parallel architecture that simultaneously yields inversion results from multiple shape models and,by evaluating the accuracy of each model's reconstructed scattering curve, offers a suggestion for model selection in material systems. To systematically validate the accuracy and efficiency of the software, verification was performed using both simulated and experimental datasets. The results demonstrate that the proposed software delivers both satisfactory accuracy and reliable computational efficiency. It provides an easy-to-use and reliable tool for researchers in materials science, helping them fully exploit the potential of SAXS in nanoparticle characterization. 展开更多

According to the Mindlin plate theory and the first-order piston theory, this work obtains accurate closed-form eigensolutions for the flutter problem of three-dimensional(3D)rectangular laminated panels. The governing differential equations are derived by the Hamilton's variational principle, and then solved by the iterative Separation-of-Variable(i SOV)method, which are applicable to arbitrary combinations of homogeneous Boundary Conditions(BCs).However, only the simply-support,clamped and cantilever panels are considered in this work for the sake of clarity. With the closed-form eigensolutions, the flutter frequency, flutter mode and flutter boundary are presented, and the effect of shear deformation and aerodynamic damping on flutter frequencies is investigated.Besides, the relation between panel energy and the work of aerodynamic load is discussed. The numerical comparisons reveal the following.(A)The flutter eigenvalues obtained by the present method are accurate, validated by the Finite Element Method(FEM)and the Galerkin method.(B)When the span-chord ratio is larger than 3,simplifying a 3D panel to 2D(two-dimensional)panel is reasonable and the relative differences of the flutter points predicted by the two models are less than one percent.(C)The reciprocal relationship between the mechanical energy of the panel and the work done by aerodynamic load is verified by using the present flutter eigenvalues and modes, further indicating the high accuracy of the present solutions.(D)The coupling of shear deformation and aerodynamic damping prevents frequency coalescing. 展开更多

The quasi-monochromatic,continuously energy-tunable,and high-brightness gamma rays that are produced by an inverse Compton scattering(ICS)light source provide an ideal probe for gamma-ray imaging. However, owing to the influence of the intrinsic energy-angle correlation spectrum of this type of light source, monochromatic computed tomography(CT),especially in the gamma-ray energy region, can only be realized in a low-efficiency manner, similar to first-generation CT.A dual-energy scan scheme with a large imaging field of view(FOV)was developed in this study to improve the imaging efficiency. The effectiveness of this scheme was demonstrated based on the beam parameters of a typical ICS light source using Monte Carlo simulations.By leveraging the principle of basis material decomposition, the influence of the energyangle correlation spectrum on CT reconstruction was corrected, and a monochromatic CT image of the imaging object was accurately reconstructed.Furthermore, the electron density and effective atomic number of the imaging object could be obtained simultaneously. 展开更多

To solve seismic wave scattering by a large-scale three-dimensional(3-D) hill topography, a fast parallel indirect boundary element method(IBEM) is developed by proposing a new construction method for the wave field, modifying the generalized minimum residual(GMRES) algorithm and constructing an Open MP plus MPI parallel model. The validations of accuracy and efficiency show that this method can solve 3-D seismic response of a large-scale hill topography for broadband waves, and overcome the weakness of large storage and low efficiency of the traditional IBEM. Based on this new algorithm architecture, taking the broadband scattering of plane SV waves by a large-scale Gaussian-shaped hill of thousands-meters height as an example, the influence of several important parameters is investigated, including the incident frequency, the incident angle and the height-width and length-width ratio of the hill. The numerical results illustrate that the amplification effect on the ground motion by a near-hemispherical hill is more significant than the narrow hill. For low-frequency waves, the scattering effect of the higher hill is more pronounced, and there is only a single peak near the top of the hill. However, for high-frequency waves, rapid spatial variation of displacement amplitude appears on the hill surface. 展开更多

In this study,we report the design and simulation of an electrostatic ion lens system consisting of 22 round metal plates. The opening of the extractor plate is covered withmetal mesh, which is for shielding the interaction region of the lens system from the high DC voltages applied to all other plates than the repeller and extractor plates. The Simion simulation shows that both velocity-mapping and time focusing can be achieved simultaneously when appropriate voltages are applied to each of the plates. This makes the ion lens system be able to focus large ionic volumes in all three dimensions, which is an essential requirement for crossed ion-molecule scattering studies.A three-dimensional ion velocity measurement system with multi-hit and potential multi-mass capability is built, which consists of a microchannel plate(MCP),a P47 phosphor screen,a CMOS camera,a fast photomultiplier tube(PMT),and a high-speed digitizer. The two velocity components perpendicular to the flight axis are measured by the CMOS camera, and the time-of-flight,from which the velocity component along the flight axis can be deduced,is measured by the PMT.A Labview program is written to combine the two measurements for building the full three-dimensional ion velocity in real time on a frame-by-frame basis. The multi-hit capability comes from the fact that multiple ions from the camera and PMT in the same frame can be correlated with each other based on their various intensities. We demonstrate this by using the photodissociation of CH31 at 304 nm. 展开更多

Moreover, the defect particles are observed as periodic particles for a more complex situation. We propose that the interference patterns caused by the elastic scattering of defects or impurities are dominated by the surface states at the extremal points on the constant energy contour. Within such a formalism, we summarize our recent theoretical investigations on the elastic scattering of topological surface states by various imperfections, including non-magnetic impurities, magnetic impurities, step edges, and various other defects, in comparison with the recent related experiments in typical topological materials such as BiSb alloys, Bi2Te3, and Bi2Se3 crystals. 展开更多
