文摘Solar radiation data forecasting algorithms are important, especially in developing countries,as vast solar power plants cannot measure reliable and constant solar irradiance. The challenges of solar irradiance prediction may be resolved by machine learning using weather datasets. This study emphasises the daily and monthly global solar radiation data predictions of three locations,Pretoria,Bloemfontein, and Vuwani,at different provinces in South Africa with various solar radiation distributions. The study evaluated five different machine learning models.Forecasting models were established to evaluate global solar radiation, focusing on input data. The selected forecast models are centered on their ability to perform with time series data. These models use five years of data from meteorological parameters, such as global horizontal irradiance(GHI),relative humidity, wind speed and ambient temperature between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022.The datasets from these meteorological parameters are utilised for training and testing the employed algorithms, which are examined using five statistical metrics. Moreover, the inconsistency of the solar irradiance time series was equally assessed using the clearness index. The results from this study demonstrate that the R2 value recording 0.866 datasets in Bloemfontein of random forest algorithm presents the highest performance during the training processes for all models studied, while the random tree in Vuwani showed the lowest performance of R2 of 0.210 with other algorithms in testing processes.Additionally, the maximum solar radiation was found in December for both Pretoria and Bloemfontein, recorded as 5.347 and 5.844 kWh/m2/day,respectively,while it was 4.692 kWh/m2/day at Vuwani in January.Similarly, the average clearness index of 0.605,0.657 and 0.533 are obtained at Pretoria,Bloemfontein, and Vuwani, respectively.Among the three sites under study, the solar radiation and clearness index are higher in Bloemfontein. Therefore, the proposed algorithms could be used conveniently for short-and long-term solar power plants in South Africa.
文摘BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation is increasingly more common due to the ongoing shortage of deceased donors. However, anatomical challenges, such as a short renal artery, can complicate surgical procedures and increase complication risk, including thrombosis and anastomotic stenosis. To address these issues and optimize graft outcomes, innovative surgical techniques are essential.CASE SUMMARY We present a case of kidney transplantation complicated by a short donor renal artery. To address the discrepancy between arterial length and diameter mismatch, the recipient’s inferior epigastric artery was used as a cuff interposition for arterial reconstruction.Following standard laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, vascular reconstruction was performed on the back table. The use of the inferior epigastric artery as a cuff allowed for successful elongation and size matching of the donor renal artery, enabling a tension-free anastomosis to the recipient’s external iliac artery.Postoperative Doppler ultrasound and angiography confirmed excellent graft perfusion. The patient experienced an uneventful recovery with immediate graft function and maintained stable renal function at 6 months post-transplant.To our knowledge, this is the first reported use of the inferior epigastric artery as a cuff interposition in renal artery reconstruction, offering a novel and effective technique for managing short renal arteries in kidney transplantation.CONCLUSION Interposition of the epigastric artery offers an innovative technique for managing short donor renal arteries, reducing the risk of early thrombosis and long-term complications as size mismatch and intimal hyperplasia.

文摘The associations of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)exposure with short sleep duration(SSD)have rarely been studied. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between VOC exposure and SSD risk, while also exploring the potential mediating influence of depressive symptoms.Blood concentrations of seven VOCs,namely benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,m-/p-xylene,o-xylene,styrene(collectively known as BTEXS),and 1,4-dichlorobenzene,were analyzed in 2905 U.S.adults.Weighted logistic regression,quantile-based g-computation(QGC),and weighted quantile sum(WQS)regression were employed to investigate associations between selected VOCs and SSD risk.Mediation analyses were conducted to explore the potential mediating effects of depressive symptoms on these relationships.Increased blood levels of BTEXS were positively correlated with SSD risk, with odds ratios(OR)ranging from 1.130 to 1.212(all P<0.05).A nonlinear association between toluene concentration and SSD risk was observed(P for nonlinearity=0.028).Both QGC and WQS analyses indicated a positive association between co-exposure to VOCs and SSD,with styrene showing the highest positive weights(QGC:OR=1.313,95%confidence interval(CI):1.038–1.660;WQS:OR=1.386,95%CI:1.111–1.731).Furthermore,BTEXS exposure was positively linked to depressive symptoms, which in turn were significantly associated with SSD risk.Mediation analyses revealed that depressive symptoms partially mediated the relationships between individual and mixed VOCs and SSD risk, with mediation proportions ranging from 15.87%to 20.54%(all P<0.05).These findings indicated that exposure to VOCs increased SSD risk, with depressive symptoms playing a partial mediating role.
文摘BACKGROUND Back pain and sciatica are common complaints that often require imaging for accurate diagnosis and management.Conventional lumbar magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)protocols typically include sagittal and axial T1 and T2 sequences;however, these may miss certain pathologies. The addition of coronal short tau inversion recovery(STIR)sequences offers the potential to enhance the detection of both spinal and extra-spinal abnormalities, thereby improving clinical decisionmaking and patient outcomes.AIM To evaluate the impact of adding coronal STIR sequences to routine lumbar MRI in diagnosing back pain and sciatica.METHODS We prospectively analyzed data from patients aged 6 and older presenting with back pain or sciatica who underwent lumbar spine MRI at our institution. The standardized MRI protocol utilized included sagittal and axial T1 and T2 sequences, complemented by a coronal STIR sequence.Data on structural abnormalities were collected, reviewed, and analyzed using counts, percentages, and Fisher's exact test for categorical variables.RESULTS Our cohort comprised 274 patients(115 males,159 females;mean age 44.91 years).Notably,39 patients exhibited abnormalities across all sequences, while 72.63%showed normal findings on the coronal STIR sequence.Importantly,30.29%of cases were diagnosed as normal without the coronal STIR,and 36 patients with normal T1 and T2 sequences presented abnormalities on the coronal STIR.The coronal STIR sequence successfully identified 26 spinal and 10 non-spinal pathologies, including 17 cases of sacroiliitis, with a significant association(P<0.0001)between sacroiliitis diagnosis and abnormalities visible solely on this sequence.CONCLUSION Integrating coronal STIR into routine lumbar MRI enhances detection of hidden spinal and extra-spinal pathologies, improves patient management, and offers a cost-effective,practical upgrade with significant diagnostic and clinical value.

文摘The monument thermal effect(MTE)displacements could result in periodical signals with several mil-limeters magnitudes in the vertical and horizontal GPS position time series. However, the interaction ofvarious origins of periodic signals in GPS observations makes it difficult to isolate the millimeter-levelMTE displacement from other signals and noises. In this study,to assess the diurnal and semidiurnalsignals induced by MTE,we processed 12 very short GPS baselines(VSGB)with length<150 m.Themonument pairs for each baseline differ in their heights, horizontal structure,or base foundations.Meanwhile, two zero-baselines were also processed as the control group. Results showed that the sea-sonal signals observed in VSGB time series in the horizontal and vertical directions, were mainly inducedby seasonal MTE.Time-varying diurnal and semidiurnal signals with amplitude up to 4 mm wereobserved in the vertical direction for baselines with monument height difference(MHD)larger than10 m.Horizontal diurnal signal with an amplitude of about 2 mm was also detected for baselines withnon-axisymmetric monument structure. The orientation of the detected horizontal displacement wascoherent with the direction of daily temperature variation(DTV)driven by direct solar radiation, whichindicates that the diurnal and semidiurnal signals are likely induced by MTE.The observed high-frequency MTE displacements,if not well modeled and removed, may propagate into spurious long-term signals and bias the velocity estimation in the daily GPS time series.

文摘Preterm birth and suboptimal fetal growth remain significant perinatal challenges worldwide.Recent data indicate that China's perinatal profile has improved due to reductions in preterm birth rates. However, the country has a 6.5%prevalence of small-for-gestational-age(SGA),ranking fifth globally in total SGA birth numbers^([1,2]).
文摘The pore size distribution is often an important parameter for transport processes in porous media.Cryoporometry experiments can provide such data in the meso and macropore size up to 1 mm providing the sample temperature is finely controlled. We use a Peltier based system inserted directly into the NMR probe to control the temperature within 0.05℃and impose temperature ramps down to 0.002℃/min,necessary to characterize the largest pore sizes. The pore size information in the macropore range cannot be obtained from gas adsorption techniques while mercury injection is questionable for the material considered here. For porous materials made of paramagnetic minerals such as lithium-iron phosphate(LiFePO_(4),LFP)or nickel-manganese-cobalt oxides(NMC)and saturated with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane(OMCTS),the T_(2)relaxation times are very short such as protons from the liquid and frozen phases cannot be separated.Hence the usual cryoporometry experiment cannot be performed.Instead,we propose to use the T_(1)contrast to separate these phases. The method is studied in detail along with some temperature effects linked with the T_(1)variation of the bulk frozen OMCTS.We show an example on two cathode materials part of industrial battery product.
文摘BACKGROUND Congenital short bowel syndrome(CSBS)is a rare disorder characterized by a congenital shortage in the length of the small intestines, resulting in compromised intestinal functionality, frequently accompanied by congenital intestinal malrotation. This study summarizes the experience of enteral and parenteral nutrition(PN)schemes for two cases of CSBS accompanied by intestinal malrotation to provide a reference for this condition.CASE SUMMARY Case 1 underwent surgical intervention 23 days after birth, but experienced postoperative intolerance to oral feeding.Consequently, the patient was transitioned to nasal feeding for 6 months while concurrently receiving round-the-clock PN.Despite ongoing adjustments to the caloric intake of enteral and PN throughout the treatment, cholestatic liver injury persisted.Furthermore, this child developed malnutrition by the age of 1 year.Case 2 received surgical intervention on 2 days after birth, demonstrating favorable tolerance for enteral feeding and intermittent PN.The child exhibited satisfactory growth and development without any associated complications.CONCLUSION CSBS is rarely encountered in clinical practice and is often accompanied by congenital intestinal malrotation. It can be improved with early diagnosis and active surgical intervention. Thus,we recommend early initiation of total PN,which is a highly effective measure in promoting early growth and development.
