Nowadays,problem student is a common phenomenon exiting in primary and secondary school,Yemen.However,current unknown is why problem students appear and how to make an effective intervention way for reducing the problem behaviors.Although there have been many researches about problem student's problem behaviors researches on causes,developmental mechanism and educational strategies of problem students mainly stay on the theoretical research stage.This study aimed to investigate main reason for the formation of problem students and then make an effective intervention way and examine the invention effect.Firstly,combining existing research literature and teaching experience,this study sums up that problem behavior of problem students is mainly learning problem,interpersonal problem and willpower problem.Secondly,this study selected ten"problem students"of primary school as the participants.They are simply classified into three categories in accordance with the severity of the problem behaviors of problem students.I summarized various causes and affecting factors of problem behaviors through observing their performances and behaviors,and conduct in-depth interviews and explorations throughout the whole research process.Thirdly,on the basis of kind and severity of problems,various flexibly methods were used for the intervention study of problem behaviors.After that,I conducted interviews with the study cases,parents and teachers once again and made tracked records for the intervention effect.The intervention achieves marked improvement.For example,most students greatly improve their behaviors in class.Finally,I reflect the research process itself,considering that the case study is necessary method for the issue of"problem students".The use of qualitative research method is more conducive to enter the inner world of the studying cases,and better understand their true conditions as well.And on this basis,it is easier to find a breakthrough in the problem to improve the"problem students"and make a closer link between theoretical research and practical application. 展开更多

Post Secondary Students’ Level of Proficiency in Solving Real World Problems in Mathematics

The study describes the p... The problem solving competency is the primary goal in all mathematics education curricula. It is acquired by solving mathematical problems belonging either to routine or non-routine category. The study describes the post-secondary students’ levels of proficiency in solving non-routine math problems. The three-stage process in solving mathematics problems by Mayer was used as the frame of analysis. Using the data generated from researcher made instruments, and semi-structured interview of 50 purposively selected participants, the study found that: Majority of the participants showed “good proficiency” in “problem representation” and “problem solving”, the real world problems in Math. It is also revealed that those who are good in problem representation phase are also good in problem solution phase. In general, participants do not always consider answer verification phase as important in the process of solving real world problems in math. The most common difficulties encountered by participants are: language inadequacy and unfamiliarity with the context of the problems. The researchers recommended that the same study be done in some other context and local and if the results are consistent with this study, may consider redesigning new curriculum in post-secondary mathematics education. 展开更多

Problem Drinking Behaviors: Differential Effects of Stress and School Type on College Students

Given that alcohol use is highly prevalent at US colleges, we explored factors related to problem drinking behaviors (PDB;binge drinking, driving after drinking, sexual intercourse after drinking) among 4098 Black and White students from two- and four-year colleges who completed an online survey. We found an interaction between race and sex such that, among Whites, females had less PDB than males (B = 0.09, CI: 0.05;0.40, p = 0.01). An interaction between race and school type also existed, such that White students from four-year schools had greater PDB (B = 0.11, CI: 0.20;0.54, p < 0.001). An interaction between race and stress suggested that Black students were more negatively affected by stress in terms of PBD (B = 0.12, CI: 0.01;0.07, p = 0.01). 展开更多

As an ESL teacher from China, I assume it necessary to find out whether these sounds really trouble Chinese students in the ESL class I observed. I am going to pick out the most frequently occurred problem sounds and take notes how the teacher deal with them in class. The problem-based learning integrated with simulation to improve nursing students’ self-efficacy

Introduction: The purposes of this study were to describe the simulation integrated with problem-based learning (SIM-PBL) module to educate the nursing process for clients with hypertension and to evaluate its effectiveness on nursing students’ self-efficacy (SE). Methods: This study was a one group pre- and post-test design. Twenty five students received a 5-hour SIM-PBL program focused on nursing care of clients with hypertension. A newly developed self-report questionnaire was used to assess SE in four areas of the nursing process with a scale of 0 (not at all confident) to 10 (totally confident). The four areas were subjective data assessment, physical examination, prioritizing nursing care and health promotion advices. Results: At baseline, students’ SE ranged from 5.5 ± 1.4 (prioritizing nursing care) to 7.6 ± 1.4 (subjective data assessment). After SIM-PBL education, all areas of nursing process presented statistically significant improvements of SE. The improvements were most noticeable in prioritizing nursing care. Conclusion: The SIM-PBL module was effective in improving the students’ self-efficacy in the nursing process for patients with hypertension. Further studies are recommended in developing SIM-PBL modules for diverse nursing topics and evaluating their effectiveness in various aspects of students’ competency. 展开更多

Method: The study design is a case study review, the data was collected using many articles related to problem-based learning collected from E-books and E-journals websites like CINAHEL, Google Scholar, etc. After that, the data was analyzed and evaluated related to the application of problem-based learning on undergraduate nursing students. Result: The result appeared that most of the research proved and supported that the application of problem-based learning is effective for undergraduate nursing students, and students can solve patients’ problems in a better way. Conclusion: In conclusion, problem-based learning is an essential part of the nursing diagnosis process that will increase knowledge, and performance, and merge it with the nursing concepts. 展开更多

Objective: To explore the effects of self-directed learning readiness and learning attitude on problem-solving ability among Chinese undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A convenience sampling of 460 undergraduate nursing students was surveyed in Tianjin, China. Students who participated in the study completed a questionnaire that included social demographic questionnaire, Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale, Attitude to Learning Scale, and Social Problem-Solving Inventory. Pearson’s correlation analysis was performed to test the correlations among problem-solving ability, self-directed learning readiness, and learning attitude. Hierarchical linear regression analyses were performed to explore the mediating role of learning attitude. Results: The results showed that learning attitude (r=0.338, P<0.01) and self-directed learning readiness (r=0.493, P<0.01) were positively correlated with problem-solving ability. Learning attitude played a partial intermediary role between self-directed learning readiness and problem-solving ability (F=74.227, P<0.01). Conclusions: It is concluded that nursing educators should pay attention on students’ individual differences and take proper actions to inspire students’ self-directed learning readiness and learning attitude. 展开更多

Introduction: Nursing students’ experiences during the pandemic provoked social isolation, the way to learn and every context increasing their stress and anxiety leading to drug use and abuse, among others. Problem-based learning (PBL) is a pedagogic strategy to strengthen significant learning;then the objective was to establish PBL influence in nursing students’ experiences on drug use and abuse during COVID-19 contingency. Methods: Qualitative, phenomenological and descriptive paradigm, 12 female and male nursing students aged 20 - 24 years old from the 5<sup>th</sup> and 6<sup>th</sup> semesters participated. Information collection was through semi-structured interview and a deep one in four cases. A guide of questions about: How the pandemic impacted your life? How did you face it? And what did you learn during this process? Those questions were used. Qualitative data analysis was based on De Souza Minayo, and signed informed consent was obtained from participants. Results: Students’ experiences allowed four categories to emerge, with six sub-categories. Category I. Students’ experiences on drug use and abuse facing the sanitary contingency;Category II. Students’ skills development to identify a problem and design of appropriate solutions;Category III. Developing skills to favor interpersonal relationships;Category IV. Influence of PBL in nursing students’ experiences on drug use and abuse during the COVID-19 contingency. Conclusion: PBL favored analysis and thoughts in nursing students’ experiences on drug use and abuse during the COVID-19 contingency, they worked collaboratively, developed resilience to daily life situations, and implemented stress coping strategies with their significant learning, which diminished their risk behavior. 展开更多

Most of the studies on sight translation are related to analyzing effort models.Some scholars have established effort models for interpreting activities.However,the majority of the research published in English was conducted between English and European languages.Experiments written in English on interpreting between English and Chinese are limited.The purpose of this research is to explore the problems that occurred in students'performance of sight translation with a view to improving students'performance and the training method.The results of the experiment show that ST skills are composed of two parts:linguistic capacity and delivery skills.The problems that occurred in the case study were presented as delivery problems.However,the reason for the problems was lack of linguistic transfer capacity.This study recommends that students should be trained both on linguistic capacity and delivery skills. 展开更多

目的评价案例教学法(case-based learning,CBL)和以问题为基础的教学法(problem-based learning,PBL)在国内本科医学临床课程教学中的应用效果。方法计算机检索知网、万方和维普数据库中有关CBL和PBL教学法在我国本科医学临床课程教学... 目的评价案例教学法(case-based learning,CBL)和以问题为基础的教学法(problem-based learning,PBL)在国内本科医学临床课程教学中的应用效果。方法计算机检索知网、万方和维普数据库中有关CBL和PBL教学法在我国本科医学临床课程教学中应用效果比较的随机对照试验(randomized controlled trial,RCT),检索时限设置为数据库建立至2023年1月。3名受到培训的研究者独立筛选文献、提取信息并评价偏倚,最后进行Meta分析。结果共纳入12项RCT进行Meta分析,包含了893例研究对象。结果显示CBL教学法和PBL教学法的本科医学临床课程教学的理论知识成绩,差异无统计学意义[标准化均数差(standardized mean difference,SMD)=0.376,95%CI-0.387~1.138,P>0.05],CBL教学法的病例分析成绩高于PBL教学法,差异有统计学意义(SMD=0.620,95%CI 0.003~1.237,P<0.05),CBL教学法的临床技能成绩高于PBL教学法,差异有统计学意义(SMD=1.120,95%CI 0.043~2.197,P<0.05),2种教学法的学习积极性比较,差异无统计学意义[相对危险度(relative risk,RR)=1.091,95%CI 0.969~1.228,P>0.05],CBL教学法的临床思维能力高于PBL教学法,差异有统计学意义(RR=1.149,95%CI 1.051~1.257,P<0.05),CBL教学法的整体满意度高于PBL教学法,差异有统计学意义(RR=1.195,95%CI 1.068~1.337,P<0.05)。结论当前证据表明,在提高本科医学临床课程教学效果及整体满意度方面,CBL教学法优于PBL教学法。 展开更多

“双一流”高校来华研究生学业质量是保障高等教育有效国际化的重要环节,但学界对来华研究生学业问题和成因关注不够。研究基于卢曼的系统理论视角,探究学业问题表现背后不同层次的原因及其作用过程,并选取西部典型院校,对18名来华研究... “双一流”高校来华研究生学业质量是保障高等教育有效国际化的重要环节,但学界对来华研究生学业问题和成因关注不够。研究基于卢曼的系统理论视角,探究学业问题表现背后不同层次的原因及其作用过程,并选取西部典型院校,对18名来华研究生、12名来华研究生导师、7名管理人员进行了访谈,将来华研究生学业问题归为学术参与、资源利用、师生沟通等三方面的不足,并从个体和制度两个层次进行了原因剖析。结果表明,个体系统层面的文化观念差异、语言能力和专业基础薄弱导致了学业互动中的双重偶然性,而院校教育系统层次的国际化水平不足、管理模式的缺陷加剧了这种偶然性,且人文社科类比理工类来华研究生的学业问题及其不确定性更明显。对此,在招生入学、学科培养、国际化水平、管理模式等四个方面分层次提出了减少学业问题的建议。 展开更多
