A flexible flat torque converter was proposed to fulfill the requirement of miniaturization and power density maximization for automobiles.Constructed by two arcs joined by lines, the torus was designed directly from design path. The influence of flatness on the performance of the torque converter was evaluated. The software CFX and standard k-ε model were adopted to simulate the internal flow fields of the torque converter under different flatness ratios. The results indicated that the performance of the torque converter got worse as the flatness declined, but the capacity of pump increased. The efficiency and the torque ratio dropped slightly as the flatness ratio decreased. So the torque converter could be squashed appropriately to get high power density without too much efficiency sacrifice. But when the flatness ratio was below 0.2,there was a significant drop in the efficiency. 展开更多

This paper aims to present and discuss the use of a power flow methodology based on Gauss elimination method to evaluate the performance of distribution network taking into account the neutral conductor absence at specific sections, and a development of a methodology based on GA (genetic algorithm) capable of evaluating alternative solutions in different bars of the feeder, in order to propose appropriate solutions to improve the distribution network safety. Besides the technical aspects, the proposed GA methodology takes into account the economic feasibility analysis. The results of power flow simulations have shown that the presence of single-phase transformers along with the absence of the neutral conductor at specific sections of the MV (medium voltage) network may increase the Vng (neutral-to-ground voltage) levels of the feeders involved, jeopardizing the system's safety. On the other hand, the solutions proposed by the GA methodology may reduce the network Vng levels and improve the safety conditions, providing values close to the ones found before the neutral conductor theft. 展开更多

Numerical simulation of enhanced fluid flow characteristics in a three-stage double-stirring extraction tank was conducted with the coupling of an Eulerian multiphase flow model and a Morsi-Alexander interphase drag force model. Results show that the addition of a stirring device into the settler can efficiently reduce the volume fraction of out-of-phase impurity in the outlet, and accelerate the settling separation of oil-water mixture. Such addition can also effectively break down the oil-water-wrapped liquid droplets coming from the mixer, inhibit reflux from the outlet, and improve the oil-water separation. The addition of a stirring device induces ignorable power consumption compared with that by the mixer, and can thus facilitate the commercialized promotion of this novel equipment. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with the design and application of coaxial mixers with the aid of analysis of interaction between each individual impeller. Two types of coaxial mixers pitched blade turbine(PBT)-helical ribbon(HR)and inner-outer HR operated in laminar regime were studied experimentally and numerically. The interaction implies synergistic and interference effects, which was revealed through the investigation of axial circulation rate, energy dissipation rate and power consumption. The influence factors including rotational speed ratio, rotating mode and impeller configuration were explored systematically. Quantitative analysis of power consumption involves three parameters: rate of variation in power consumption, interactive mode and ratio of power consumption. Analysis indicated that some important properties were embodied in the power curve. These properties are one-way and two-way interactions, critical speed ratio and dominant impeller. Finally, a new suggestion for power estimation was given. 展开更多
