The intrinsic pressure framework, which treats self-propelling force as an external force, provides a convenient and consistent description of mechanical equilibrium in active matter. However, direct experimental evidence is still lacking. To validate this framework, here we employ a programmable robotic platform, where a single light-controlled wheeled robot travels in an activity landscape. Our experiments quantitatively demonstrate that the intrinsic pressure difference across the activity interface is balanced by the emerged polarization force. This result unambiguously confirms the theoretical predictions, thus validating the intrinsic pressure framework and laying the experimental foundation for the intrinsic pressure-based mechanical description of dry active matter. 展开更多

Wearable sensors integrated with deep learning techniques have the potential to revolutionize seamless human-machine interfaces for real-time health monitoring, clinical diagnosis, and robotic applications.Nevertheless,it remains a critical challenge to simultaneously achieve desirable mechanical and electrical performance along with biocompatibility,adhesion,self-healing,and environmental robustness with excellent sensing metrics.Herein,we report a multifunctional,anti-freezing,selfadhesive,and self-healable organogel pressure sensor composed of cobalt nanoparticle encapsulated nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes(CoN CNT)embedded in a polyvinyl alcohol-gelatin(PVA/GLE)matrix.Fabricated using a binary solvent system of water and ethylene glycol(EG),the CoN CNT/PVA/GLE organogel exhibits excellent flexibility, biocompatibility, and temperature tolerance with remarkable environmental stability.Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy confirms near-stable performance across a broad humidity range(40%-95%RH).Freeze-tolerant conductivity under sub-zero conditions(-20℃)is attributed to the synergistic role of CoN CNT and EG,preserving mobility and network integrity. The Co N CNT/PVA/GLE organogel sensor exhibits high sensitivity of 5.75 k Pa^(-1)in the detection range from 0 to 20 k Pa,ideal for subtle biomechanical motion detection.A smart human-machine interface for English letter recognition using deep learning achieved 98%accuracy.The organogel sensor utility was extended to detect human gestures like finger bending, wrist motion, and throat vibration during speech. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic effects of curcumin in a transverse aortic constriction(TAC)mouse model and elucidate its molecular mechanisms. Methods:Male C57BL/6 mice underwent TAC and received vehicle,low-dose curcumin(50 mg/kg),high-dose curcumin(200 mg/kg),high-dose curcumin plus a scrambled control antagomir,or high-dose curcumin plus anti-miR-29b treatments.Cardiac function was assessed by echocardiography.Fibrosis was evaluated by histology, collagen volume fraction, and hydroxyproline content.Expression of miR-29b,HDAC4,and fibrosis-related markers(Col1a1,Col3a1,TGF-β1)was measured by quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting assays.Myocardial procollagen type I carboxy-terminal propeptide was determined by ELISA,and HDAC4-specific enzymatic activity was assayed using a fluorogenic kit. Results:Curcumin improved cardiac function, reduced fibrosis, restored miR-29b expression, and suppressed HDAC4 expression and activity in a dose-dependent manner.Furthermore, curcumin decreased myocardial procollagen type I carboxy-terminal propeptide levels, confirming reduced collagen synthesis.Anti-miR-29b administration partially abrogated the antifibrotic and cardioprotective effects of curcumin. Conclusions:Curcumin attenuates pressure overload-induced cardiac fibrosis and dysfunction in a TAC mouse model via modulation of the miR-29b/HDAC4 axis and suppression of collagen synthesis. 展开更多

Improving device efficiency is fundamental for advancing energy harvesting technology, particularly in systems designed to convert light energy into electrical output. In our previous studies,we developed a basic structure light pressure electric generator(Basic-LPEG),which utilized a layered configuration of Ag/Pb(Zr,Ti)O_(3)(PZT)/Pt/GaAs to generate electricity based on light-induced pressure on the PZT.In this study,we sought to enhance the performance of this Basic-LPEG by introducing Ag nanoparticles/graphene oxide(AgNPs/GO)composite units(NP-LPEG),creating upgraded harvesting device.Specifically,by depositing the AgNPs/GO units twice onto the Basic-LPEG,we observed an increase in output voltage and current from 241 mV and 3.1μA to 310 mV and 9.3μA,respectively,under a solar simulator. The increase in electrical output directly correlated with the intensity of the light pressure impacting the PZT,as well as matched the Raman measurements,finite-difference time-domain simulations, and COMSOL Multiphysics Simulation.Experimental data revealed that the enhancement in electrical output was proportional to the number of hot spots generated between Ag nanoparticles, where the electric field experienced substantial amplification. These results underline the effectiveness of AgNPs/GO units in boosting the light-induced electric generation capacity, thereby providing a promising pathway for high-efficiency energy harvesting devices. 展开更多

The magnetic properties and Kondo effect in Ce3TiBi5 with a quasi-one-dimensional structure were investigated using in situ high-pressure resistivity measurements up to 48 GPa.At ambient pressure,Ce_(3)TiBi_(5) undergoes an antiferromagnetic(AFM)transition at T_(N)∼5 K.Under high pressures within 8.9 GPa,we find that Kondo scattering contributes differently to the high-temperature resistance,R(T),depending on the applied current direction, demonstrating a significantly anisotropic Kondo effect. The complete P–T phase diagram has been constructed,in which the pressure dependence of T_(N) exhibits a dome-like shape. The AFM order remains robust under pressure, even when the coherence temperature T^(*) far exceeds 300 K.We attribute the observed anisotropic Kondo effect and the robust AFM to the underlying anisotropy in electronic hybridization under high pressure. 展开更多

While a healthy lifestyle is known to reduce the risk of stroke, the extent to which blood pressure(BP)mediates this association remains unclear. The present study aimed to quantify the mediating role of BP in the association between combined lifestyle factors and stroke incidence.Using data from 51929 participants free of major cardiovascular diseases or cancer at baseline,we employed structural equation modeling to assess the mediating effects of systolic(SBP)and diastolic(DBP)blood pressure.During the follow-up,2811 incident stroke cases were identified.A healthy lifestyle was significantly associated with a reduced risk of stroke, with SBP mediating 44.70%(β=-0.0014,95%confidence interval[CI]:-0.0016 to-0.0012)and DBP mediating 37.81%(β=-0.0012,95%CI:-0.0015 to-0.0009)of this association. The mediating effects were attenuated but remained significant for ischemic stroke(SBP:33.21%;DBP:27.24%).In conclusion, approximately two-fifths of the protective association between a healthy lifestyle and stroke may be mediated by BP.These findings suggest that BP control may serve as an important early indicator for evaluating the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions in reducing stroke risk. 展开更多

Objective Evidence suggests that depleted gut microbialα-diversity is associated with hypertension;however, whether metabolic markers affect this relationship remains unknown. We aimed to determine the potential metabolites mediating the associations ofα-diversity with blood pressure(BP)and BP variability(BPV).Methods Metagenomics and plasma targeted metabolomics were conducted on 523 Chinese participants from the MetaSalt study. The 24-hour,daytime,and nighttime BP and BPV were calculated based on ambulatory BP measurements.Linear mixed models were used to characterize the relationships betweenα-diversity(Shannon and Chao1 index)and BP indices.Mediation analyses were performed to assess the contribution of metabolites to the observed associations. The influence of key metabolites on hypertension was further evaluated in a prospective cohort of 2,169 participants. Results Gut microbial richness(Chao1)was negatively associated with 24-hour systolic BP,daytime systolic BP,daytime diastolic BP,24-hour systolic BPV,and nighttime systolic BPV(P<0.05).Moreover,26 metabolites were strongly associated with richness(Bonferroni P<0.05).Among them, four key metabolites(imidazole propionate,2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid, homovanillic acid, and hydrocinnamic acid)mediated the associations between richness and BP indices(proportions of mediating effects:14.1%–67.4%).These key metabolites were also associated with hypertension in the prospective cohort. For example, each 1-standard deviation unit increase in hydrocinnamic acid significantly reduced the risk of prevalent(OR[95%CI]=0.90[0.82,0.99];P=0.03)and incident hypertension(HR[95%CI]=0.83[0.71,0.96];P=0.01).Conclusion Our results suggest that gut microbial richness correlates with lower BP and BPV,and that certain metabolites mediate these associations. These findings provide novel insights into the pathogenesis and prevention of hypertension. 展开更多

Ammonia plays a critical role in our society, not only as the source for fertilizers and other essential chemicals, but also as a promising hydrogen carrier due to its high energy density and ease of storage and transportation. However, the conventional Haber-Bosch process is energy-intensive and costly.Developing a more energy efficient route for ammonia production is currently a holy grail in scientific society. This study reports a plasmonic semiconductor catalyst, molybdenum oxynitride(Mo2N/MoO_(2-x))nanosheet,that enables the ambient-pressure NH3 synthesis under light illumination. This catalyst achieves a remarkable NH3 production rate of 2338μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1) at 400℃ and 857μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1) at room temperature.Notably,we present the evidence for the coexistence of both nonthermal and photothermal effects, distinguishing this system from photothermally driven routes. This work demonstrates a viable pathway for NH3 production with low monetary and energetic investments and potential for distributed NH3 synthesis utilizing only water, air, and sunlight. 展开更多

The functional properties of glasses are governed by their formation history and the complex relaxation processes they undergo. However, under extreme conditions, glass behaviors are still elusive. In this study,we employ simulations with varied protocols to evaluate the effectiveness of different descriptors in predicting mechanical properties across both low-and high-pressure regimes. Our findings demonstrate that conventional structural and configurational descriptors fail to correlate with the mechanical response following pressure release, whereas the activation energy descriptor exhibits robust linearity with shear modulus after correcting for pressure effects.Notably, the soft mode parameter emerges as an ideal and computationally efficient alternative for capturing this mechanical behavior. These findings provide critical insights into the influence of pressure on glassy properties, integrating the distinct features of compressed glasses into a unified theoretical framework. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effect of die wall thickness on morphologies of defect band,a stepped mold with a wall thickness of 5 mm,4 mm,3 mm,2 mm,and 1 mm was designed to carry out high pressure die casting experiments with AlSi10 MgMn alloy. For castings with wall thickness of 2-4 mm,the ratio of the mean defect band width(w)and mean grain size(d)in the defect band(w/d)ranges 7-18,while it increases to 24.47 for the 5 mm-thick casting. This difference is related with the filling speed and the distribution of externally solidified crystals(ESCs).The mold flow analysis indicates that the filling speed decreases from 25.41 m·s^(-1)to 11.07 m·s^(-1)when wall thickness increases from 2 mm to 5 mm.Due to the decreasing filling speed along the wall thickness,ESCs gradually diffuse from the center to the defect band, which keep the shear strength in the defect band at a high-level during filling.Meanwhile, the shear strength generated during the filling also decreases as the shear rate drops. Finally, the defect bands in the 5 mm-thick region become widen and indistinct, and the porosity is as high as 5.25%. 展开更多

Luminescent metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have garnered significant attention due to their structural tunability and potential applications in solid-state lighting, bioimaging, sensing, anticounterfeiting, and other fields.Nevertheless, due to the tendency of1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid(BDC)to rotate within the framework,MOFs composed of it exhibit significant non-radiative energy dissipation and thus impair the emissive properties. In this study, efficient luminescence of MIL-140A nanocrystals(NCs)with BDC rotors as ligands is achieved by pressure treatment strategy.Pressure treatment effectively modulates the pore structure of the framework, enhancing the interactions between the N,N-dimethylformamide vip molecules and the BDC ligands. The enhanced host-vip interaction contributes to the structural rigidity of the MOF,thereby suppressing the rotation-induced excited-state energy loss.As a result, the pressure-treated MIL-140A NCs displayed bright blue-light emission, with the photoluminescence quantum yield increasing from an initial 6.8%to 69.2%.This study developed an effective strategy to improve the luminescence performance of rotor ligand MOFs,offers a new avenue for the rational design and synthesis of MOFs with superior luminescent properties. 展开更多

The ability to generate high pressures in a large-volume press(LVP)is crucial for the study of matter under extreme conditions. Here,we have achieved ultrahigh pressures of and 50 GPa,respectively,at room temperature and a high temperature of 1900 K∼60within a millimeter-sized sample volume in a Kawai-type LVP(KLVP)using hard tungsten carbide(WC)and newly designed assem-blies.The introduction of electroconductive polycrystalline boron-doped diamond and dense alumina wrapped with Cu foils into a large conventional cell assembly enables the detection of resistance variations in the Fe_(2)O_(3) pressure standard upon compression. The efficiency of pressure generation in the newly developed cell assembly equipped with conventional ZK10F WC anvils is significantly higher than that of conventional assemblies with some ultrahard or tapered WC anvils. Our study has enabled the routine gener-ation of pressures exceeding 50 GPa within a millimeter-sized sample chamber that have been inaccessible with traditional KLVPs.This advance in high-pressure technology not only breaks a record for pressure generation in traditional KLVPs,but also opens up new avenues for exploration of the properties of the Earth’s deep interior and for the synthesis of novel materials at extreme high pressures. 展开更多

Portal hypertension is a critical determinant of prognosis in chronic liver disease and a key factor in evaluating candidates for liver transplantation.Traditional methods such as hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG)measurement have long been considered the gold standard for assessing portal pressure. However, these methods are invasive and carry procedural limitations.Recent advances in endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-guided techniques have emerged as promising alternatives, offering direct and minimally invasive assessment of portal pressure.EUS-guided portal pressure gradient measurement enables real-time evaluation of haemodynamic through direct access to the portal system. This technique has shown to be as accurate as HVPG,and it has some extra benefits, like the ability to take liver biopsies and check collateral circulation all at the same time.Despite these benefits, the technique poses challenges such as operator dependence,proce-dural complexity, and limited standardization across centres. This minireview highlights the evolution of portal pressure measurement, focusing on the potential of EUS-guided techniques in pre-transplant assessment, risk strati-fication,and monitoring therapeutic outcomes.Furthermore,it discusses the technical challenges, clinical implications, and future directions for integrating these innovations into routine practice.Advances in portal pressure measurement hold significant promise for enhancing decision-making and outcomes in liver transplantation. 展开更多

In the scenario of a steam generator tube rupture accident in a lead-cooled fast reactor, secondary circuit subcooled water under high pressure is injected into an ordinary-pressure primary vessel, where a molten lead-based alloy(typically pure lead or lead-bismuth eutectic(LBE))is used as the coolant. To clarify the pressure build-up characteristics under water-jet injection, this study conducted several experiments by injecting pressurized water into a molten LBE pool at Sun Yat-sen University. To obtain a further understanding, several new experimental parameters were adopted, including the melt temperature, water subcooling, injection pressure, injection duration, and nozzle diameter.Through detailed analyses,it was found that the pressure and temperature during the water-melt interaction exhibited a consistent variation trend with our previous water-droplet injection mode LBE experiment.Similarly, the existence of a steam explosion was confirmed, which typically results in a much stronger pressure build-up.For the non-explosion cases, increasing the injection pressure,melt-pool temperature, nozzle diameter, and water subcooling promoted pressure build-up in the melt pool. However,a limited enhancement effect was observed when increasing the injection duration, which may be owing to the continually rising pressure in the interaction vessel or the isolation effect of the generated steam cavity.Regardless of whether a steam explosion occurred, the calculated mechanical and kinetic energy conversion efficiencies of the melt were relatively small(not exceeding 4.1%and 0.7%,respectively).Moreover,the range of the conversion efficiency was similar to that of previous water-droplet experiments, although the upper limit of the jet mode was slightly lower. 展开更多

Combustion dynamics are a critical factor in determining the performance and reliabilityof a chemical propulsion engine. The underlying processes include liquid atomization, evaporation, mixing, and chemical reactions. This paper presents a high-fidelity numerical study of liquidatomization and spray combustion under high-pressure conditions, emphasizing the effects of pres-sure oscillations on the flow evolution and combustion dynamics. The theoretical framework isbased on the three-dimensional conservation equations for multiphase flows and turbulent combus-tion.The numerical solution is achieved using a coupling method of volume-of-fluid and Lagran-gian particle tracking. The Zhuang-Kadota-Sutton(ZKS)high-pressure evaporation model andthe eddy breakup-Arrhenius combustion model are employed.Simulations are conducted for amodel combustion chamber with impinging-jet injectors using liquid oxygen and kerosene as pro-pellants.Both conditions with and without inlet and outlet pressure oscillations are considered.Thefindings reveal that pressure oscillations amplify flow fluctuations and can be characterized usingkey physical parameters such as droplet evaporation, chemical reaction, and chamber pressure. The spectral analysis uncovers the axial variations of the dominant and secondary frequenciesand their amplitudes in terms of the characteristic physical quantities. This research helps establisha methodology for exploring the coupling effect of liquid atomization and spray combustion. It alsoprovides practical insights into their responses to pressure oscillations during the occurrence ofcombustion instability. This information can be used to enhance the design and operation ofliquid-fueled propulsion engines. 展开更多

In accordance with the trans-lamina cribrosa pressure difference theory, decreasing the trans-lamina cribrosa pressure difference can re- lieve glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Increased intracranial pressure can also reduce optic nerve damage in glaucoma patients, and a safe, effective and noninvasive way to achieve this is by increasing the intra-abdominal pressure. The purpose of this study was to observe the changes in orbital subarachnoid space width and intraocular pressure at elevated intra-abdominal pressure. An inflatable abdominal belt was tied to each of 15 healthy volunteers, aged 22-30 years (12 females and 3 males), at the navel level, without applying pressure to the abdomen, before they laid in the magnetic resonance imaging machine. The baseline orbital subarachnoid space width around the optic nerve was measured by magnetic resonance imaging at 1, 3, 9, and 15 mm behind the globe. The abdominal belt was inflated to increase the pressure to 40 mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa), then the orbital subarachnoid space width was measured every 10 minutes for 2 hours. After removal of the pressure, the measurement was repeated 10 and 20 minutes later. In a separate trial, the intraocular pressure was measured for all the subjects at the same time points, before, during and after elevated intra-abdominal pressure. Results showed that the baseline mean orbital subarachnoid space width was 0.88 + 0.1 mm (range: 0.77-1.05 mm), 0.77 + 0.11 mm (range: 0.60-0.94 mm), 0.70 + 0.08 mm (range: 0.62-0.80 ram), and 0.68 _+ 0.08 mm (range: 0.57-0.77 mm) at 1, 3, 9, and 15 mm behind the globe, respectively. During the elevated intra-abdominal pressure, the orbital subarachnoid space width increased from the baseline and dilation of the optic nerve sheath was significant at 1, 3 and 9 mm behind the globe. After decompression of the abdominal pressure, the orbital subarachnoid space width normalized and returned to the baseline value. There was no significant difference in the intraocular pressure before, during and after the intra-abdominal pressure elevation. These results verified that the increased intra-abdominal pressure widens the orbital subarachnoid space in this acute trial, but does not alter the intraocular pressure, indicating that intraocular pressure is not affected by rapid increased in- tra-abdominal pressure. This study was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (registration number: ChiCTR-ONRC-14004947). 展开更多

In thermoelectricity, the inherent coupling between electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient represents a fundamental challenge in thermoelectric materials development.Herein,we present a unique pressure-tuning strategy using compressible layered 2H-MoTe2,achieving an effective decoupling between the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient. The applied pressure simultaneously induces two complementary effects:(1)bandgap reduction that moderately enhances carrier concentration to improve the electrical conductivity,and(2)band convergence that dramatically increases density-of-states effective mass to boost the Seebeck coefficient. This dual mechanism yields an extraordinary 18.5-fold enhancement in the average power factor.First-principles calculations and Boltzmann transport modeling precisely reproduce the experimental observations, validating this pressure-induced decoupling mechanism. The pressure-tuning mechanism provides a feasible and effective strategy for breaking through the optimization limits of the power factor, facilitating the design of high-performance thermoelectric materials. 展开更多

MDRPI, a peculiar subtype of pressure injuries (PI), result from the pression exerted by devices (or their fixation systems) applied for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. MDRPI represent a serious problem for patients and healthcare systems. Understanding potential risk factors is an important step in implementing effective interventions. Methods: In this study, we will perform a systematic review;if possible, also a meta-analysis will be performed. The review will follow the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines for systematic reviews. A rigorous literature search will be conducted both in electronic databases (Medline/PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library) to identify studies published since 2000 and in gray literature for unpublished studies. Pairs of researchers will identify relevant evidence, extract data, and assess risk of bias independently in each eligible study. Factors associated with the occurrence of MDRPI are considered the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes are prevalence and incidence of MDRPI, length of hospital stay, infections, and death. The evidence will be synthesized using the GRADE methodology. Results: Results are not currently available as this is a protocol for a systematic review. Conclusions: This systematic review will identify evidence on risk factors for developing MDRPI. We are confident that the results of this review will help to improve clinical practice and guide future research. 展开更多

The recently discovered titanium-based kagome metal ATi_(3)Bi_(5)(A=Cs,Rb)provides a new platform to explore novel quantum phenomena. In this work, the transport properties of ATi_(3)Bi_(5)(A=Cs,Rb)are systematically investigated under high pressure.Although ATi_(3)Bi_(5)(A=Cs,Rb)shows no evidence of superconductivity at ambient pressure, the pressure-induced double-dome superconductivity is observed in both compounds, resembling the superconducting phase diagram of AV_(3)Sb_(5)(A=Cs,Rb,and K)under pressure.High-pressure X-ray difraction measurements exclude the pressure-induced structural phase transition.A slope change in the c/a ratio was found between 12.4 and 14.9 GPa,indicating the occurrence of lattice distortion. The distinct changes in the electronic band structure revealed by frst-principles calculations further explain the emergence of superconductivity in the two domes. These fndings suggest that pressure can efectively tune the electronic properties of ATi_(3)Bi_(5),providing new insights into the rich physics of kagome metals. 展开更多
