Ni-based alloy coating on 21-4-N heat-resistant steel was prepared using CO2 laser, and the high-temperature abrasion wear was tested. The microstructure of this cladding layer and its abrasion wear behavior at high temperature by changing compositions and temperatures were investigated by means of optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Among the three compositions of cladding layer, i.e. Ni21+20%WC+0.5%CeO2, Ni25+20%WC+0.5%CeO2 and Ni60+20%WC+0.5%CeO2, the experimental results show that Ni21+20%WC+ 0.5%CeO2 cladding layer is made up of finer grains, and presents the best abrasion wear behavior at high temperature. The wear pattern of laser cladding layer is mainly grain abrasion at lower temperature, and it would be changed to adhesive abrasion and oxide abrasion at higher temperature. 展开更多

In order to enhance the wear resistance of 45 steel,a WC/Stellite 6 composite layer with 30%WC which with different morphologies(spherical and irregular)was prepared on the surface of 45 steel by laser cladding technology.The effects of WC morphology on the phase composition,microstructure,microhardness,and wear resistance of the cladding layer were compared and analyzed.The res-ults show that the surface of the cladding layer was well formed.M_(23)C_(6),M_(7)C_(3),WC,and W_(2)C exist in both cladding layers.With the ad-dition of spherical WC,the diffraction peaks of γ-Co appear on the left side of the main peak of Co6W6C.The area of intergranular carbides accounts for a large proportion in the surface layer which with the fine grains.During the process of laser cladding the spherical WC particles with loose structure are prone to melting,including their interior.However,the melting amount of irregular WC particles is finite,which only occurs on the periphery of the particles,and the particle interior is relatively intact.The microhard-ness of two cladding layers gradient increases from the substrate to the surface layer.The surface layer added spherical WC has high-er microhardness,which reaches 790.6 HV1.Nevertheless,the wear resistance of the cladding layer added irregular WC is better than that of the cladding layer added spherical WC.The reason is because that the incompletely melted irregular WC particles are uni-formly distributed in the cladding layer which provided the support points for the cladding layer matrix during the wear process,the wear of the cladding layer by the grinding pair is reduced consequently. 展开更多

Laser cladding of NiCrBSi coatings on 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel substrate were obtained by high power laser.Microstructure,composition distribution and wear properties of the as-cladded coatings by different laser power were investigated using SEM,EDS and M-2000 wear resistance machine.The results show that the coating can be characterized as two regions,cladding and bonding zones.The cladding zone consists of multiple phases such as γ-(Ni,Fe) and CrB,which presenting several morphologies:dendritic,eutectic,irregular granulated and needle-like structures.The bonding zone was mixed by NiCrBSi and the melted substrate surface,mainly made up of columnar grains.Dilution rate increased with the increase of laser power.The wear test results show that the wear mechanism of the multi-track clad coatings is abrasive and adhesive wear.The wear rate is in the range of (2.2~2.6)×10-5mm3/m·N and the average friction coefficient is 0.52.The wear resistance decreased when increasing laser power.EDS analysis indicates that the main constitutional compositions of Ni,Fe,Cr and Si homogeneously distribute in the coatings.Fe fraction was apparently improved in the higher laser power cladded coatings. 展开更多

The in situ synthesized NbC particles reinforced Ni-based alloy composite coating was produced by laser cladding a precursor mixture of Ni-based alloy powder, graphite and niobium powders on a steel substrate. The microstructure, phase composition and wear property of the composite coating were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and dry sliding wear test. The experiment results show that the composite coating is homogeneous and free from cracks, and about 0.8 mm thick. The microstructure of the composite coating is mainly composed of NbC particles, CrB type chromium borides, 7-Ni primary dendrites, and interdendritic eutectics. CrB phases often nucleate and grow on the surface of NbC particles or in their close vicinity. NbC particles are formed via in situ reaction between niobium and graphite in the molten pool during the laser cladding process and they are commonly precipitated in three kinds of morphologies, such as quadrangle, cluster, and flower-like shape. Compared with the pure Ni- based alloy coating, the microhardness of the composite coating is increased about 38%, giving a high average hardness of HV0.21000, and the wear rate of the composite coating is decreased by about 32%, respectively. These are attributed to the presence of in situ synthesized NbC particles and their well distribution in the coating. 展开更多

The coatings on a stainless steel substrate were conducted by laser cladding of Ni-based alloy, using a 5 kW continuous wave CO2 flow transverse laser. SEM, EDX and X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the microstructure and constituent phases of the obtained coatings by laser cladding with direct injection of the powder into the melt pool. Solidification planar, cellular and dendrite structures were observed in Ni-based alloy coating. There exists an optimum metallurgical bond between Ni-based laser cladding layer and the base material. The high hardness of the Ni-based alloy coating is attributed to the presence of M7C3-type carbides (essentially chromium-riched carbide) dispersed in the γ(Ni,Fe) phase matrix. 展开更多

To improve the wear resistance of aluminum alloy frictional parts, Ti B2particles reinforced Ni-base alloy composite coatings were prepared on aluminum alloy 7005 by laser cladding. The microstructure and tribological properties of the composite coatings were investigated. The results show that the composite coating contains the phases of Ni Al, Ni3Al, Al3Ni2, TiB2, TiB, TiC, CrB, and Cr23C6.Its microhardness is HV0.5855.8, which is 15.4 % higher than that of the Ni-base alloy coating and is 6.7 times as high as that of the aluminum alloy. The friction coefficients of the composite coatings are reduced by 6.8 %–21.6 % and 13.2 %–32.4 % compared with those of the Ni-base alloy coatings and the aluminum alloys, while the wear losses are 27.4 %–43.2 % less than those of the Ni-base alloy coatings and are only 16.5 %–32.7 % of those of the aluminum alloys at different loads. At the light loads ranging from 3 to 6 N, the calculated maximum contact stress is smaller than the elastic limit contact stress. The wear mechanism of the composite coatings is micro-cutting wear, but changes into multi-plastic deformation wear at 9 N due to the higher calculated maximum contact stress than the elastic limit contact stress. As the loads increase to 12 N, the calculated flash temperature rises to 332.1 °C.The composite coating experiences multi-plastic deformation wear, micro-brittle fracture wear, and oxidative wear. 展开更多

Cermet/iron alloy cladding layers were coated on the surface of Al-Mg-Si alloy (A6061) plates by resistance seam welding method with tungsten carbide (WC) and high-carbon iron alloy (SHA) powders. The cladding layer consisted of WC reinforcement, SHA binder, A6061 and FeAl3. The effect of WC ratio (30 wt%, 50 wt% and 70 wt%) on the microstructure and wear behavior of the cladding layers was investigated in detail. Abrasive wear test was performed under two kinds of load condition by using a rubber wheel apparatus to evaluate wear resistance. The results showed that the wear resistance of the cladding layer was improved by 3.5-5 times than that of the substrate. At lower load, the wear resistances of the samples 30% and 70% WC were nearly the same, which suggested that FeAl3 played an important role in improvement of the wear resistance instead of WC. While at higher load, the amount of WC determined the wear resistance of the cladding layer. Furthermore, wear behavior of these cladding layers was explained with reference to the observed microstructure of the worn surface. 展开更多

The effect of Mo on the microstructure of Ni-based coatings was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy. The corrosive wear resistance and the corrosion resistance of five coatings were tested. The results show that the corrosive wear resistance of the coating with 5.0 wt% Mo is better than those of other coatings. During the corrosive wear process, the corrosion and wear effects are combined. The corrosive wear resistance is closely related to the microstructure of the coating. 展开更多

Aseries of [(Fe_(0.6)Co_(0.2)Ni_(0.2))_(0.75-0.03x)B_(0.2)Si_(0.05+0.03x)]_(96)Nb_(4) amorphous alloy composite coatings were prepared by adjusting the silicon content(x=0,1,2,3,4,5,and 6)and their microstructures and tribological properties were investigated by laser cladding technique.Additionally,the effect of Si on the glass forming ability(GFA)of the layers was understood.Results show that an appropriate Si content can refine the microstructure of the FeCoNiBSiNb laser cladding layers and improve the mechanical and tribological properties.The hardness of the coating layer increases monotonically with the Si content.At the Si content of 4.8at%(x=0),the coating layer exhibits a relatively low hardness(734.2HV 0.1).Conversely,at the silicon content of 13.44at%(x=3),the coating layer exhibits the highest hardness(1106HV 0.1).The non-crystalline content and tensile strength exhibit an initial increase,followed by a subsequent decrease.At x=2,the coating exhibits its maximum fracture strength(2880 MPa).However,when x>2,the fracture strength of the coating decreases with an increase in x.Conversely,with an increase in Si content,the wear volume loss initially decreases and then increases.At a Si content of 10.56at%(x=2),the coating exhibits the highest non-crystalline content(42%),the highest tensile strength(2880 MPa),and the most favorable dry friction performance. 展开更多

TIG welding was used to deposit Co-8.8 Al-9.8 W-0.2 B superalloy on 304 austenite stainless steel. The form factor of weld, dilution ratio, microhardness, microstructure and distribution of alloying elements were investigated. The microstructure of cladding layer was mainly hypoeutectic. The primary phases were cobalt-rich solid solution. The eutectic phase was composed of cobalt-rich solid solution,Co6W6C and Co Cx. When the boron content increased from 0.2% to 0.5%,the dilution ratio decreased,the primary phase became coarse and the microhardness decreased. When the boron content was from 0.5% to 2%,the dilution ratio and microhardness increased obviously,but the primary phase was refined.The hard phase of Co-8.8 Al-9.8 W became refined and the amount was raised,and the performance of cladding layer was improved with appropriate boron increase. 展开更多

By laser multi-layer cladding using a pulsed Nd-YAG irradiation the thickness of the cladding zone Mg-based alloys(ZM2 and ZM5) can reach about 1.0 mm.The microstructure of the substrate and the cladding zone was studied using optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and micro hardness analysis. It is observed that constituent of ZM5 alloy is δ+Mg 17Al 12, that of ZM2 alloy is α+MgZn+Mg 9Ce. That of cladding layer ZM2 alloy(L-ZM2) is Mg+Mg 2Zn 11+MgCe; while that of the cladding layer ZM5 alloy(L-ZM5) is Mg+Mg 32(Al, Zn) 49. The hardness of the cladding area can be increased to values above HV127. Very fine uniform microstructure and the produced new phases of nanometer/sub-micrometer order were obtained. Now, many repaired Mg-based alloy components have been passed by flying test in outside field. 展开更多

Laser cladding,together with laser nitriding was used to synthesize a titanium nickel intermetallic compound layer on the nickel substrate and a TiN coating on the cladding layer. During the laser cladding, Ti and Ni powders were blown into the melting pool by a six-hole coaxial nozzle powder injection system. Exothermic reactions between Ti and Ni took place in the melting pool, and a cladding layer of titanium nickel intermetallic compounds was produced. Laser nitriding in a nitrogen-rich atmosphere followed the production of the cladding layer, and formed a golden yellow TiN layer over it. An optical and a scanning electron microscope were used to investigate the microstructures and measure the thicknesses of the cladding layer and the TiN layer. Phase identification was carried out by XRD. For the nitriding sample, the microhardness profile of the clad layer was tested. The optimal process parameters of the in situ synthesis of titanium nickel intermetallic compounds were obtained. 展开更多

By using the continuum model and enthalpy-porosity method, the fluid flow and heat transfer in solid-liquid phase change system were simulated. The commercial software PHOENICS, to which several modules were appended, was used to accomplish the simulation. Numerical simulation and experiments were introduced to develop AA4045/AA3003 cladding billets with different clad-ratios. The temperature fields, microstructures and mechanical properties near interface were investigated in detail. The results show that cladding billets with different clad-ratios were fabricated successfully. Si and Mn elements diffused across the bonding interface and formed diffusion layer. With the increase of clad-layer thickness, the interfacial region transforms from semisolid-solid state to liquid-solid state and the diffusion layer increased from 10 to 25 μm. The hardness at interface is higher than that of AA3003 side but lower than that of the other side. The bonding strength increased with the clad-layer thickness, attributing to solution strengthening due to elements diffusion. The cladding billets were extruded into clad pipe by indirect extrusion process after homogenization. The clad pipe remained the interfacial characteristics of as-cast cladding billet and the heredity of clad-ratio during deformation was testified. 展开更多

The variation law of cladding thickness as well as the structures and properties of H90-steel clad strip produced by inversion solidification was studied. The interface bonding mechanisms were approached. It is found that the thickness of H90 cladding goes sequentially through the solidification growth stage, holding stage, and remelting stage, with an increase in immersion time. The higher the preheating temperature of the steel coil, the thicker is the maximum cladding thickness. Observation by using optical microscopy (OM) and the electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) shows that the microstructure of H90 cladding is composed of equiaxed grains, and that interdiffusion between Cu and Fe at interface occurs but obvious diffusion of Zn and the intermetallic layer are not observed. The diffusion layer is thin and about 4 μm. Multipass small reduction cold rolling and repeated bending tests show that the interface is firmly bonded. Tensile test shows that the mechanical properties of the as-clad strips can meet the requirements of GB5213-2001 for the F-grade deep-drawing steel plate though there is a slight difference in the mechanical properties among the clad strips with different cladding thickness. 展开更多

The hydrogenation of petroleum resin(PR)is an effective process to prepare high value-added hydrogenated PR(HPR).However,the preparation of non-noble metal-based catalysts with high catalytic activity for PR hydrogenation still remains a challenge.Herein,a La promoted Ni-based catalyst is reported through the thermal reduction of quaternary Ni La Mg Al-layered double hydroxides(Ni La Mg Al-LDHs).The incorporation of La is beneficial to the reduction and stability of Ni particles with reduced particle size,and the increased alkalinity effectively mitigates the breakage of molecular chains of PR.As a result,the La promoted Ni-based catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity and excellent stability for PR hydrogenation.A hydrogenation degree of 95.4%and 96.1%can be achieved for HC_(5)PR and HC_(9) PR with less reduced softening point,respectively.Notably,the hydrogenation degree still maintains at 92.7%even after 100 hours’reaction,much better than that without La incorporation or prepared using conventional impregnation method. 展开更多

Tungsten inert gas(TIG) welding was applied to creating a composite layer on the surface of cast aluminum alloy A380. Different mixtures of Al, Si and SiC powders mixed with sodium silicate solution were pasted on substrates. Surface melting was conducted by TIG welding to produce Al-SiC layer on the surface. Microstructural evolution was investigated by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), optical and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and elemental microanalysis(EDS). Properties of clad layers were studied by microhardness and sliding wear testing. The results showed a uniform distribution of SiC particles in dendritic aluminum matrix. Addition of excess silicon caused the formation of eutectic crystals and coarse silicon particles in the clad layer which resulted in higher hardness and wear resistance of clad layers. 展开更多

The results show that the microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance of the clad layer are all evaluated. The composite layer consists of TiC and α-Ti phases. TiC in the clad zone exists in the form of fine dendrites and Ti fills among TiC dendrites, which has a typical structure of TiC/Ti composite. The microhardness of the composite coating is significantly enhanced as high as HV_ 0.2940 as compared to HV_ 0.2345 of the substrate region. The composite layer has excellent wear resistance compared to titanium alloy. 展开更多
