The r...The deformation behaviors of Al2O3/Al composites were investigated by compressive tests conducted at temperature of 300-450 °C and strain rates of 0.001-1.0 s-1 with Gleeble-1500 D thermal simulator system. The results show that the flow stress increases with increasing strain rate and decreasing temperature. The hyperbolic sine constitutive equation can describe the flow stress behavior of Al2O3/Al composites, and the deformation activation energy and constitutive equations were calculated. The processing maps of Al2O3/Al-2 μm and Al2O3/Al-1 μm composites at strain of 0.6 were obtained and the optimum processing domains are in ranges of 300-330 °C, 0.007-0.03 s-1 and 335-360 °C, 0.015-0.06 s-1 for hot working, respectively. The instability zones of flow behavior can also be recognized by the maps.展开更多

The relevant productions were characteriz...W-2 wt.%Y2O3 composite material with uniform distribution of yttrium element was fabricated through processes of mechanical alloying (MA) and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The relevant productions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The XRD showed that the W-2 wt.%Y2O3 composite powder, including tungsten matrix and Y2O3 particles, was refined to nanometer sizes during the MA process. The SEM and TEM micrographs showed that the MA produced composite powder presented a lamellar morphology and contained many dislocations and microcracks. The EDS showed that the Y and O elements were uniformly distributed in the W matrix after mechanically alloying for 15 h. The W-2 wt.%Y2O3 composite material with uniform distribution of yttrium was obtained by sintering of the MA produced composite powder.展开更多
TiB2-Al2O3 composite powders were produced by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS) method with reductive process from B2O3-TiO2-AI system. X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM...TiB2-Al2O3 composite powders were produced by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS) method with reductive process from B2O3-TiO2-AI system. X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) analyses show the presence of TiB2 and Al2O3 only in the composite powders produced by SHS. The powders are uniform and free-agglomerate. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution electron microscopy (HREM) observation of microstructure of the composite powders indicate that the interfaces of the TiB2-Al2O3 bond well, without any interfacial reaction products. It is proposed that the good interfacial bonding of the composite powders can be resulted from the TiB2 particles crystallizing and growing on the Al2O3 particles surface with surface defects acting as nucleation centers.展开更多

The results indicated that particle size and content of silicon powder affected the cold crushing strength of coked specimens. It increased with the addition of silicon powder and its finer particle size. However, it decreased greatly when using too fine silicon powder. The particle size and content of silicon powder also impacted the phase evolution and microstructure of coked specimens, much more β-SiC whiskers constituted network structure and well distributed in specimens with reduction of their slenderness ratios when finer silicon powder was added, corresponding to that, the specimens' pore size distribution range became narrower with smaller pore diameter, but β-SiC whiskers were distributed sparsely and the specific pore volume of small pores increased when much finer powder was added. Here we report the effects of nano-Y203 addition, sintering atmosphere and time during on the fabrication of PM duplex and ferritic stainless steels composites by dual-drive planetary milling of elemental Fe, Cr and N...Here we report the effects of nano-Y203 addition, sintering atmosphere and time during on the fabrication of PM duplex and ferritic stainless steels composites by dual-drive planetary milling of elemental Fe, Cr and Ni powders followed by conventional pressureless sintering. Yttria-free and yttria-dispersed duplex and ferritic stainless steels are fabricated by conventional sintering at 1000, 1200 and 1400 ℃ temperatures under argon atmosphere. In another set of experiment, yttria-free and yttria-dispersed duplex and ferritic stainless steels are consolidated at 1000 ℃ for l h under nitrogen atmosphere to study the effect of sintering atmosphere. It has been found that densities of duplex and yttria- dispersed duplex stainless steel increase from 71% to 91% and 78% to 94%, respectively, with the increase in sintering temperature. Similarly, hardness value increases from 257 to 567 HV25 in case of duplex, and from 332 to 576 HV25 in yttria-dispersed duplex stainless steel. X-ray diffraction analysis shows the domination of more intense austenite phase than ferrite at higher sintering temperature and also in nitrogen atmosphere. It is also evident that addition of yttria enhances phase transformation from a-Fe to 7-Fe. Duplex and yttria-dispersed duplex stainless steels exhibit the maximum com- pressive yield strength of 360 and 312 MPa, respectively.展开更多
Cordierite precursor was obtained through a process, which involved the decomposition of metal nitrates on the surface of ultrafine carbon black powder between 100-300℃ and the gasification of the carbon black at hig...Cordierite precursor was obtained through a process, which involved the decomposition of metal nitrates on the surface of ultrafine carbon black powder between 100-300℃ and the gasification of the carbon black at higher temperature in air. The average size of the particles, which were heat-treated at 700℃ for 10h, is about 1020nm, and the specific surface area is about 129m 2/g. The experimental results show that the ultrafine particles of cordierite precursor can be produced by this process. The precursor powder was calcined at different temperatures. X-ray diffraction examination indicates that β-quartz is crystallized from the amorphous matrix around 850℃ firstly and then MgO-Al 2O 3 spinel and α-cordierite appears. Above 1000℃, MgO-Al 2O 3 spinel and cristobalite disappear gradually and form an intermediate phase (sapphirine). At around 1300℃, the main phase is α-cordierite, and no other phase is detected.展开更多

The microstructure and properties of the synthesized Cu/Al2O3 were studied. The results show that high-energy milling can obviously promote internal oxidation of Al in Cu-Al powders in the same solid solubility. At the same milling conditions and internal oxidation parameters, the solid solution of Al in Cu either in low or high amount will result in the poor microstructure and properties of the Cu/Al2O3 composite. Subsequently, when high-energy milling and internal oxidation are synchronously used to prepare the Cu/Al2O3 composite, there should be an appropriate solubility and milling effect for the pre-alloyed powders.展开更多
A composite ceramic coating containing Y2O3-ZrO2-MgO(YSZ-MgO) was prepared on AZ91D magnesium alloy,which was immersed in Y(NO3)3 aqueous solution as pretreatment,by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) process.The morpholo...A composite ceramic coating containing Y2O3-ZrO2-MgO(YSZ-MgO) was prepared on AZ91D magnesium alloy,which was immersed in Y(NO3)3 aqueous solution as pretreatment,by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) process.The morphology,elemental and phase compositions,corrosion behavior and thermal stability of the coatings were studied by SEM,EDX,XRD,electrochemical corrosion test,high temperature oxidation and thermal shock test.The results show that the coating mainly consists of ZrO2,Y2O3,MgO,Mg2SiO4,and MgF2.Among these compounds,Y2O3 accounts for 26.7% of(Y2O3 + ZrO2).The thickness of YSZ-MgO coating is smaller than that of ZrO2-MgO coating,but its compactness and surface roughness are better than those of ZrO2-MgO coating.YSZ-MgO coating has a good corrosion resistance,and its corrosion rate in 5% NaCl aqueous solution is lower than that of ZrO2-MgO and only about 8.5% of that of AZ91D magnesium alloy.After oxidation at 410 °C,the mass gain of AZ91D magnesium alloy presents a linear increase with the oxidation time.The YSZ-MgO coating and ZrO2-MgO coating can remarkably decrease the oxidation mass gain.The oxidation mass gain of YSZ-MgO coating is lower than that of ZrO2-MgO coating,especially during a long oxidation period.The thermal shock resistance of YSZ-MgO coating is superior to ZrO2-MgO coating.展开更多
